Always play linked movie in QuickTime Player?

How do I craft an HTML link so that the mov from my web server always plays in the Quicktime player? I don't want the image imbedded in the webpage; I want a clickable link that will open QT Player and start the movie.
I tried adding "target", "quicktimeplayer" to the QTWritePosterXHTML javascript described in the Export for Web ReadMe instructions, but it doesn't seem to work.
By the way, if I use a raw Test Movie link to the .mov file, it opens in a new browser window, not the QT player.

How do I craft an HTML link so that the mov from my web server always plays in the Quicktime player? I don't want the image imbedded in the webpage; I want a clickable link that will open QT Player and start the movie.
I assume there may be many ways to do this but as I am not an HTML programmer, I normally go with a non-programmer method -- the the QuickTime Media Link (QTL) file.
Basically, this is a script encapsulated as a QT movie file. When accessed, i.e., such as when clicking on a hyperlink pointing to it URL, a very small file is downloaded to the user's computer which then opens the local QT Player and begins caching data from a source file on a server. Depending on the settings in the QTL file, the movie can auto-open, loop, play in full screen mode, etc.
To give you some idea of what I am talking about, here is an iWeb page that allows you to play the same file either directly in the web browser page or on your local Mac platform. I like QTL files because they can be used in much the same way as a reference file -- i.e., be e-mailed as a very small attachment and treated/opened/played much the same as a standalone QT file as long as you are connected to the Internet.

How can I play multiple movies on quicktime. Hi Brennan,
Only HDMI is going to support audio & video on the single cable. Which MacBook Air do you have? Here's a great article regarding this - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241. Also keep in mind that only the current generation of MacBook Airs support this. The previous generation, also with MiniDisplay Port would support HDMI but you'd need to run a separate line from the headphone port over AUX for audio.
The first and second generation models, which have micro-DVI, do not support audio. Regarding the RCA cables, Apple offers adapters that allow you to go to VGA and that would probably be your best bet. I do not believe there's a MiniDisplay Port to RCA solution out there, you'd need to do multiple adapters and that's always a questionable performance solution.

I would like an answer on this also. It gets to be a hassle to play multiple files when playing on the television.

  • Movie trailer or any other links in the quicktime player does not work

When I click on the movie trailer/Hot picks/Quick picks links on the player interface nothing happens. When I move the Mouse it changes to a hand showing the link is clickable.
Also when I click on the "Quicktime Website" or the "Quicktime Player Help" from the Help Menu, nothing happens.
When I go to any apple website and clicks on the sample trailer movies links, it is playing the trailer.
Anybody may please tell how to solve the problem.

  • How to take 16:9 HD Movie from QuickTime player and play 4:3 letterbox

We have a movie created in Final Cut Pro in HDV, so it is 16x9 and it plays just fine having been exported as a QuickTime movie.
The idea is to distribute it to some people that have 4:3 SD televisions, so we want to make a DVD that will play in those TV's but will not cut off the sides or distort the picture - in other words, to letterbox it.
I tried creating a 4:3 project in iDVD, and dragging the quicktime movie in. It seemed to be letterboxed in the preview window, but when I burned the disc, not only was it not letterboxed, but it cut off the sides of the picture. Even playing it on a 16:9 TV had the sides cut off.
Can someone suggest how to accomplish this?

The original movie was exported from Final Cut Pro into QuickTime so it was 1920x1080 using the HDV 1080i60 codec. This resulted in a QuickTime movie file. After reading your reply I opened this .mov file in QuickTime player and exported it using the DV codec (best quality, 16x9, progressive). Under "Size" in the dialog, there was an option to "Preserve Aspect Ratio Using.." and I selected "letterbox".
This produced what looks like a DV 853x480 file that looks letterboxed. I opened a new iDVD project, selected 4:3 as the ratio (since this will be viewed on a 4x3 Tv; that is the idea of making sure it is letterboxed) and imported the new file. It came out 4x3 stretched. So I guess I did something wrong.
    What should I do differently?

  • How to play .AVI files in Quicktime Player 7.6.4

Quicktime Player 7.6.4 will not playback my .AVI movies that I recorded with my Polaroid DVG-1080p digital video camera. I have videos that are 1080p and 720p (H264).
I wish I knew enough about the formatting to troubleshoot, but I thought I would seek advice from the experts.
    Any suggestions?

I don't think that QuickTime natively recognizes H.264 content in an AVI wrapper. You might try installing Perian and see if that helps.
    Regards.

  • X-Fi DD-DTS doesn't seem to work right playing DVD Movies with VLC Player or anything els

I have an X-Fi Platinum with the bay and When I try to Play a DVD with VLC Player And choose a/52 over s/pdif it sounds HORRID skipping and pausing and not functioning at all.. I must choose 5. channel to have Listenable Audio. The Same goes for AC3 Encoded Files If I chose A/52 over S/PDIF in VLC player it sounds like **bleep** and doesn't seem to decode it right. I must chose stereo 2 channel to listen to AC3 encoded video's.. NOTE The dolby Digital symbol DOES appear when i chose A/52 over S/PDIF so it does know it's a digital signal.. And I have the software set to USE hardware decoder and S/PDIF in Decode selected. NOW Here's something that REALLY makes me wonder wtf is wrong, I can connect my Home DVD Player or Cable Box over the Optical?in OR the S/PDIF in and the SOB works Fine, The Dolby Digital symbol comes up and everything sounds great! I get Dolby Digital surround no problem..Why in the heck does it not want to play DVD's using the A/52 over S/PDIF or any AC3 Encoded Files? What's the deal? And I am using windows XP Pro SP2 yadda yadda yadda?Message Edited by mbrown0420 on 07-25-20070:58 PM
