Amount of temporary tablespace size used for index rebuild

Hi All,
I want to know approximate amount of temporary tablespace size used for index rebuild. I need this information to avoid the insufficient temporary tablespace error during the huge index rebuild.
Is there a query or procedure to find it out.
Thank you.

Hi,
While creating the index, the temporary segment is created in the permanent tablespace. So permanent tablespace must have sufficient space.

  • Temporary tablespace size

    Hi,
I have a doubt regarding temporary tablespace. Oracle 9.2.0.5
When I create the default tablespace temp I see it growing and growing during some days until it reaches the maximum size and then it give the error ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace TEMP
but monitoring the v$sort_segment I see one or 2 users logged and using the temp.
So my doubt is: what I have to do to find the BEST size for my temp tablespace. which queries is the recomended one to see the temp segments being used ?
    Thank you

    See http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96521/tspaces.htm#9566
To improve the concurrence of multiple sort operations, reduce their overhead, or avoid Oracle space management operations altogether, create temporary tablespaces. A temporary tablespace can be shared by multiple users and can be assigned to users with the CREATE USER statement when you create users in the database.
Within a temporary tablespace, all sort operations for a given instance and tablespace share a single sort segment. Sort segments exist for every instance that performs sort operations within a given tablespace. The sort segment is created by the first statement that uses a temporary tablespace for sorting, after startup, and is released only at shutdown. An extent cannot be shared by multiple transactions.
You can view the allocation and deallocation of space in a temporary tablespace sort segment using the V$SORT_SEGMENT view. The V$TEMPSEG_USAGE view identifies the current sort users in those segments.

  • Default block size used for Apex Database

    Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has an idea on the default block size that is used for the database that ApEx uses?
    Cheers!
    Steve

The block size is determined by the Database installation and Tablespace configuration and not by APEX, and the default in the database installation is the OS block size I believe.
Are you talking about the XE database installation?

  • How can I reduce the amount of storage my iPhone uses for messages?

Is there any way to reduce the amount of storage space my iPhone uses for Messages?  Can I limit the storage to the last year or some other limit (specific date, specific amount of storage etc.)?
    Thank you

I'm not sure there is a solution to your question, other than to not keep so many photos on your devices.  If you delete a photo from photo stream, it will delete it from all your devices.  To keep them, first save them to your camera roll (tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll), then import them to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  However, given the number of photos you have, a much more practical solution would be to transfer them to your computer using an app like PhotoSync, which will select them all at once and transfer them over wifi.
I'm not sure why you're seeing such a discrepancy in the amount of space taken up by your photos.  It's possible that something is corrupt given the large number of photos on your device.

  • How increase external disk size used for an existing file system, Solaris10

    Configuration:
    Server: Sun T5220
    S/O: Solaris 10 5/08 s10s_u5wos_10 SPARC
    Storage: EMC AX4-5
    EMC PowerPath: PowerPath Version 5.2
    I have the following scenario:
In AX4-5 storage array, I created two LUNs into RAID Group 10, with Raid Type1/0:
    LUN 101: 20Gb
    LUN 102: 10Gb
Both LUNs were added to Storage Group (SG1) that includes two Servers (Server1 and Server2); both servers have Operating System Solaris 10 5/8 and Power Path.
The servers detect both LUNs across two paths. With Power Path were created a virtual path (emcpower0a, emcpower1a) to access to each LUNs respectively.
    We have mounted two file system /home/tes1 over emcpower0a -> LUN101 and /home/tes2 over emcpower1a -> LUN102.
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/emcpower0a 20G 919M 19G 5% /home/test1
    /dev/dsk/emcpower1a 10G 9G 1G 90% /home/test2
I want to increase the space in file system /home/test2, without lost the information that I have stored and using the same LUN, LUN 102. To do this I start with the following steps:
1-     Create new LUN, LUN 103 with 15Gb into RAID Group 10. Result: OK, I have available space in RAID Group 10.
2-     Add LUN 103 to LUN 102, using concatenation option. Result: OK. This action creates a new metaLUN with the same characteristics of LUN 102, but with new space of 25Gb.
After to do these actions, I want to know how Solaris recognize this new space. What I need to do, to increase the size of file system /home/test2 to 25 Gb. Is that possible?
I reviewed the description of each disk using format command, and the disks not have any change.
Could anyone help me? If you need more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me.
    Thanks in advance.

Robert, thank a lot for your know how. You helped me to clarify some doubts. To complete your answer, I will add two more details, based on my experience.
After to execute, type -> auto configure and label, the disk was created with different partitions like root, swap, usr, like this:
    Volume name = < >
    ascii name = <DGC-RAID10-0223 cyl 49150 alt 2 hd 32 sec 12>
    pcyl = 49152
    ncyl = 49150
    acyl = 2
    nhead = 32
    nsect = 12
Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
    0 root wm 0 - 682 128.06MB (683/0/0) 262272
    1 swap wu 683 - 1365 128.06MB (683/0/0) 262272
    2 backup wu 0 - 49149 9.00GB (49150/0/0) 18873600
    3 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    6 usr wm 1366 - 49149 8.75GB (47784/0/0) 18349056
    7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
This was not convenient because all information stored appear in the first slice and growfs not work if appear root or swap slice into the disk, for that reason was necesary to recreate manually every slice with partition command. The final result was this:
Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
    0 unassigned wm 0 - 49149 9.00GB (49150/0/0) 18873600
    1 unassigned wu 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    2 backup wu 0 - 49149 9.00GB (49150/0/0) 18873600
    3 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    6 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
    7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
Now, execute again the label command to save the new information.
    Mount file system and execute:
growfs –M file_system mount_point to expand the file system to 9Gb.

  • Tablespace size report for SQL and oracle servers

       Hi All
is it possible to get tablespace size for all sql and oracle server in the form of report in SCOM.
      Regards

Oracle: Table size report of Oracle is depend on the MP which yu imported into SCOM
    SQL :
    1) Create a group which contains folowing dynamic rule
    2) Reporting workspace --> Microsoft Gneric Report --> Performace Detail
    3) in the parameter area, create a new series, add group which create in step 1) and select the rule: MSSQL XXX: Collect Database Allocated Size(MB)
    4) Run the report
    5) In the report, click actions and select "Performance details for every object"

  • Lot size use for splitting req. qty. with Two  vendors

    Hello PP experts,
We have two vendors and we want the each requirement to be split into the two vendor with 30 % for 'A' and 70 % for 'B'.
What are the IMG  and master data setting required for the above scenario?
Please let me know whether can will use lot size 'ES' with splitting quota indicator marked in OMI4.
    Waiting for your reply.
    Regards,
    Mona tiwari

    Hi Mona,
You have to maiantain first quota arrangement (MEQ1) for the two vendors with alloting the percentage to split the Planned orders/PRs in planning run. Apart from this maintain the lot size either EX, FS or ES with split indicator marked in OMI4 for the quota.
Yes, maintain Quota allowed key in MRP (4) either in purchaing view or in MRP2 view as said by Prasobh.
    If helps rewards points.

  • Lot Sizes Used for Fore cast planning

    Dear all,
<b>For fore cast planing and Automatic reorder point planning what are the lot sizes are use full and what are the advantages and effects  for each lot size procedure.</b>
I am expecting answer for this question from all of you.
    Regards,
    Krishna

    Hi
These fore cast planing and Automatic reorder point types are consumption based planning.
Hence for  these MRP types normally, lot for lot ( EX ) will be used.
You can go through the following link for further info on lot sizing procedures.

  • Using large block sizes for index and table spaces

" You are not using large blocksizes for your index tablespaces. Oracle research proves that indexes will build flatter tree structures in larger blocksizes.
Is this a generic statement that I can use for all tables or indexes? I also have batch and online activity. My primary target is batch and it should not impact online. Not sure if both have common tables.
How to find the current block size used for tables and index? is there a v$parameter query?
What is an optimal block size value for batch?
How do I know when flatter tree str has been achieved using above changes? Is there a query to determine this?
What about tables, what is the success criterion for tables. can we use the same flat tree str criterion? Is there a query for this?

Is this a generic statement that I can use for all tables or indexes? This is a generic statement used by some consultants. Unfortunately, it is riddled with exceptions and other considerations.
One consultant in particular seems to have anecdotal evidence that using different block sizes for index (big) and data (small) can yield almost miraculous improvements. However, that can not be backed up due to NDA. Many of the rest of us can not duplicate the improvements, and indeed some find situations where that results in a degradation (esp with high insert/update rates from separated transactions).

    1) stop using generic tools to analyze specific problems
    2) define you problem in detail ()what are you really trying to accomplish - seems like performance tuning, but you never really state that)
    3) define the OS and DB version - in detail. Give rev levels and patch levels.
If you are having a serious performance issue, I strongly recommend you look at some performance tuning specialists like "http://www.method-r.com/", "http://www.miracleas.dk/", "http://www.hotsos.com/", "http://www.pythian.com/", or even Oracle's Performance Tuning consultants. Definitely worth the price of admission.

  • Oracle 8.0 - how to identify temporary tablespace using dba v$ views

    Hello experts,
can someone tell me how can I query a v$ or dba_ view to identify which are the temporary tablespace in a 8.0.5 Oracle database?
    Thx in advance.

8.0 did not have the concept of tempfiles.
However, a Tablespace could be created as a Temporary tablespace (still using "normal" datafiles) with CREATE/ALTER TABLESPACE tablespacename TEMPORAR.
Meaning : You can't query DBA_TEMP_FILES or V$TEMPFILEs. You have to query DBA_USERS to identify the designated Temporary Tablespace(s) and then query DBA_TABLESPACES for the storage parameters and then query DBA_DATA_FILES for the files.
You can also query DBA_TABLESPACES for CONTENTS='TEMPORARY' and then query DBA_DATA_FILES.

  • Swap, temporary tablespace and sort operations

    Hello.
I have an Oracle 8.1.7 on Linux RH7.1. I see a very interesting situation: when users begin to execute large selects with many sorts operation swapping grows, but temporary tablespace does'nt grow. As I know, when Oracle has no memory to use as "sort_area_size" it uses temporary tablespace. But looks like that when Oracle ask for memory Linux begin to swap (in order to give memory for Oracle). I mean that Oracle don't use temporary tablespace but use swap instead of it. Is it true? Is it problem? Is it Oracle, Linux or my own configuration bug? Is it better to use swap or to use temporary tablespace? What is faster?
Thanx for all advises and ideas. ANd sorry for pure English

login to your database as DBA (SYS AS SYSDBA) and issue the following query:
    SQL> select name, value from v$parameter where name = 'sga_max_size' ;
see the value defined for this parameter. If this is larger than what you have configured as your SGA size,
Oracle will assume that it can expand the SGA to "sga_max_size" value, and will try to expand the SGA when
required. This will result in Oracle asking more memory from the linux kernel and then linux starts to use
    the swap space.
Try changing the value of this parameter and see if it helps.

  • Drop a temporary tablespace

    Hi all
I have created a temporary tablespace temp01 and assign it as the default temporary tablespace for the database (10.0.2.0)
How can I drop it without changing the default temporary tablespace?
    thanks for help

    phaeus wrote:
    Hello,
create a new temporary tablespace. Make it to your default database temp tablespace and then you can drop the old one.
A couple of thoughts I'd want to check on that - based on memories of problems in the dim and distant past.
If you take this approach, do you still have to worry about users who have already got the dropped tablespace associated with their temp tablespace in dba_users ? Memory says they'll either get an error message, or they'll fall back to SYSTEM despite there being a new default.
One of the reasons for creating tablespace groups for temporary tablespaces is that you can assign a tablespace group to a user, and then invisibly create and drop temporary tablespaces in that group without having to adjust the users' details. But there used to be a bug that resulted in excessive hits on dc_tablespaces if you did this, and extreme numbers of executions of a query against ts$ (or maybe file$).

  • Reclaim the tablespace size...

    Hi Friends,
Now i have joined as DBA in new company. After ananyzing my database i came to know my databases system tablespace had lot of user objects that around 9GB. I moved all the tables to another one tablespace now i want to reclaim that 9GB of space from my system tablespace. Bacause due to space constraint my company is not allowing me to keep that 9GB of space wastly. can you please any one let me know any effective procedure for reclaim that 9GB from my system tablespace?
    Data base Relaease : 9.2.0.4.0
    OS release: Suse linux 2.4.21-198-smp
Thanks for your effort and help
    Regards,
    Karthik

    Hi Karthik
Looking at the situation which you have mentioned, the only solution which looks feasible to me is :
    1. Export the entire user data.
    2. Drop the database
    3. Create and new database
    4. Import the user data
Note : Keep in mind that the database shouldn't be of production.
Please keep in mind the following:
    1. In NON SYSTEM tablespaces, usually the content of the entire TABLESPACE concerned is exported, then the tablespace is dropped including content and datafiles, the tablespace is newly created and data is imported back.
    2. We have an option of resizing the database using alter system .. command but it usually works only if the datafile has not been used after increasing its size or if it has been added recently.
    3. Do not create user data in SYSTEM tablespace. Use separate tablespace for users. SYSTEM tablespaces are used for data-dictionary data.

  • 'alter index rebuild' paralellism problem

    Hi,
I have this problem described in example. I am using interMedia Text version 8.1.7 on Win32 platform ,
Imagine two tables with the same structure, but in first there are big pdf files(size more than 1MB, lot of files) and in the second there are small files(less than 10KB, imagine few files).
There are same preferences used for indexing( file_datastore, inso_filter..).
If I run the alter index for first table, it usually takes long time. Than if I run the alter index for the second table, it always begin after the first will finish.
    Other combination work correctly :
Running create index for first table and create index for second is done paralelly, runnig combination of create index and alter index (no matter for which table) is done paralelly too.
The only problem is with runnig two alter indexes at the same time.
The problem is about to index around 100 GB of documents by small steps - documents are added and indexed using alter index. Using create index is not possible, because whole system is backed up and switched off during night.
    So indexing process is interrupted.
    Thanks for every reply..
