An Error Occurred - Photos on Front Row

Hi, I really hope someone can help me....
Whenever I try to show photos on Front Row, the message comes up "an error occurred" Press play/pause to exit front row.
I think I must have some corruption in my iPhoto library so I have tried the following:
Re-building the library, thumbnails etc.
Deleting the last 10 events (since the problem occurred)
Emptying trash
Deleting all albums and slideshows
All to no avail.
I have tried creating a new user account and opening the library in that and using Front row to confirm it wasn't user account settings, same problem again. But if I create a new library with just a few photos in it, it works fine in Front Row on both user accounts.
This has all started happening since I moved from a mac mini to a 27" iMac, the photo library is on an external drive and worked fine like that with the mini but not the iMac. I have tried copying it onto the iMac hard drive in case it was the external drive causing the problem but that doesn't seem to have made any difference. I did change to snow leopard around the same time, would this have anything to do with it maybe?
I have over 16000 photos in my library and have spent hours tagging them, geo-tagging, updating faces etc so I really don't want to have to rebuild the library from scratch manually.
Any clues?
Thanks

Well given that the problem doesn't occur in the new Library it does point the finger solidly at some form of corruption in the main library.
What format is the external disk?
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Error: An error occurred while skipping data rows

I am constantly getting error message “Error: An error occurred while skipping data rows”. Here is my scenario:
I am pulling data from a text flat file which is Vertical Bar {|} delimited. My data source files naturally come without headers (no column names on first row). So what I did to bypass
    this is –
I used a control file to supply the header names when I developed my package. This control file’s column names have corresponding column order used in the data source files.
I then added an expression to my Flat File Connection Manager so that the system should automatically pick up new incoming files (files without headers).
Now when I try to run my package I am receiving “Error: An error occurred while skipping data rows”. Could this be due to the fact that the system is expecting the column names which I
entered when I developed the package while this new file does not have any headers, or could it be something different? There is very little information on the internet about this kind of error message. The only meaningful information that I have found is
from the link below but unfortunately the case explained there is not the same as my situation.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/sqlserver/en-US/a790460b-9ef5-482b-b219-f55c05fa30d3/error-occured-while-skipping-data-rows
I’m also aware that one can get the same error if the specified delimiter type on their package is different from the one on the flat file. Still that is not the case in my situation. Can
someone please kindly help me troubleshoot this.
    Many thanks,
    Mpumelelo

I have managed to address my problem. I did not have to manually enter some nearly 2000 column names by hand. Here is what I have done. I will explain it in detail for the benefit of those who might face the same problem but have no answers on how to work
    around it.
I have maintained the column names from the control file because it was important for me to do this in the interest of some data flow components further down the pipeline. It therefore means that my package Flat File Source components have column names
on both the External Column and Output Column sides.
When I configured the Flat Files Source component using the control file I left the option “Column names in the first row” ticked as shown in the picture below. This is the default selection from Microsoft.
I then went to my flat file connection manager; right clicked it and selected “Properties” to get something like shown below. You will notice that property “ColumnNamesInFirstRow” is down as “True” because when configuring my flat file manager I left
that selection ticked. To address my problem I changed property “ColumnNamesInFirstRow” from “True” to “False” and saved my package.  This means that during runtime the package will not use the first row as column names but will use the already predefined
column names which I entered from the control file. Please note that selecting the option of not using the first row as column names should be done from the Properties selection instead of the Flat File Source component. Changing this property from the Flat
File Source component automatically changes all the metadata whereas doing this from the Properties selection leaves the metadata on the Flat File Source component unchanged.

  • Imported Photos But Front Row Says "No Photos In Library"  --- What Gives?

I imported many (about 3500) photos into iPhoto. When I launch Front Row, it says I have no photos imported. Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Hi! same problem occured today. I am runing the latest version of frontrow and iphoto. This is it:
    - I had a mere 40 photos in my iphoto library yesterday, and I could view them with out any problem in frontrow and iphoto.
    - This morning i copied 3000 images from a DVD to my harddrive and then imported them to iphoto via the drag and drop method. I had also checked the option "copy images to my iphoto-library" in my iphoto prefs.pane.
    - Everything worked well and all my images were copied to iphoto and organized into their different categories. I checked my iphotolibrary in "finder" to make sure my images were in the "originals" folder, which they were, and still are.
    - Then I deleted the other files from my hd, knowing that they were saved in the library.
    - Then I ran frontrow and got the message "no photos in library", the 40photos i had yesterday could not be viewed anymore and my 3000 new photos could not be viewed in frontrow.
    - iPhoto on the other hand works perfect as it always has. And all my images are displayed there.
    - What`s up? Is there a special folder that frontrow checks for images? could this be where the problem is?

  • Is there any way I can browse photos on Front Row and choose the music?

    Hi!
Without creating a slideshow or anything in advance, is there any way using Front Row that I can browse my photos and either keep my iTunes music playing in the background or the music I choose in Front Row?
    Thanks

I am going to assume you are on Leopard, if so, as far as I understand it, under FR 2.0, this is not possible. This is the sole reason I have yet to upgrade to Leopard, hope you listening Apple!!! I only have one mac, a mini, that I use as a HTPC. Why this functionality was removed is like a Windows type decision, pointless and ridiculous.
I have a seen a lot of talk about being able to install the old version of FR, search the forums, for how to do that.
Under Tiger, it is totally do-able, as long as you ensure your default picture slideshow setting does not have pre-saved music.

  • How do i delete photos on front row

How do i delete photo albums on front row? I have deleted all photos of my Imac but the albums are still on the front row (they even say there are photos in them but when you play them its just a black screen).

  • Showing photos with Front Row without iPhoto

I love Apple, but frankly I cannot stand iPhoto. With the 2011 release, I tried another time to use it but trashed it a couple hours after.
I have all my picture simply into the Finder, inside a Dropbox folder which keeps them in sync amongst several macs of mine.
So I would like to know whether there is a way to use Front Row to show pictures without using iPhoto.
The best way for me would be to access directly the Finder or the file system. But I could also evalueate using other software, as long as they automatically sync their library with the content of the file system.
Any hint / idea / help?
I had thought of making a movie with the pictures, but that would be too unconfortable...
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I have got the same problem, i used to see the my pictures from all the events in the iphoto, but i think after some SL update i can only hear the slideshow music but no pictures.
I don't exactly remember when front row broke down because i do not use it regularly to watch pictures, i only use it to watch movie trailers, which still works fine.
    Hope someone can help.
    Cheers

Sean, thanks for the Return key tip. I knew about that at one point, but lately I was trying to use Enter (the one on the numeric keypad, at the very lower right corner of the keyboard, which is really easy to hit with my thumb even when my hand is on the mouse! And Enter doesn't invoke the crop, so I forgot that Return did). That is a better way.
I don't see the RE problem on my MacBook, only on my desktop computer, and that one is also experiencing other flakiness (

  • Front row plays music but will not show photos

When i try to view my photos in Front Row all that happens is music plays but no photos are shown. Front row says that there are 186 photos to show, however, there is nothing to view once I start the show.

  • Events do not appear in Front Row / Shared Photos

Events do not appear when launching Photos in Front Row, only Recent Viewed, Last Import, Web Galleries and Albums.
Doesn't it kind of defeats the purpose to have Events, which was implemented to make organizing easier and eradicate the large number of albums we usually had?

Yes, I think the Event implementation is lacking in a few areas. On the positive side, I noticed that iMovie and iDVD '08 allow you to browse Events and add them as slideshows.
Now all we need is for Apple to update FrontRow to support Events, and also update iTunes/iPod so that we can view our events on the iPod.
Although Events is a re-hashed "Film Rolls" feature, I believe that many people would be happy to group photos by Events, using Albums only rarely. If we can get full support for Events in other apps, then it would be great!

  • Front Row default Photo folder

I use iphoto on my Mac.
I have noticed that when I watch my photos in Front Row, many of the photos that I previously deleted are still shown in Front Row.
Does anyone know where / which folder Front Row gets the photos from?
    Thanks

  • Alternate photo library in Front Row?

So, I just bought my first Mac, use Front Row, and am a photographer. Can I browse my Aperture Library through Front Row and just not use iPhoto at all?

Yes, it will duplicate your photos. However, when you export from Aperture you can specify the quality of the jpegs. If you imported raw photos into Aperture the export will be jpeg and much smaller. But, basically yes, it will create duplicates for the iPhoto library.
Aperture is the 'pro' version of iPhoto. You can do everything and more in Aperture that you can in iPhoto - except view the photos in Front Row! As you're a photographer (and I assume purchased Aperture) then I'd start with Aperture and only export into iPhoto those photos that you want to view in FrontRow.

  • Itunes not working with Front Row

    Hello.
I'm running Front Row (current version) along with the current version of itunes.
When I access my playlists in itunes it only allows me the choice of shuffeling the playlist. When I do select that I get a message saying "a problem has occured" and then Front Row will immediatly shut off.
How do I get Front Row to let me sleect any song in the playlist instead of only shuffeling it (i've already ensured sheffeling was turned off in itunes) and how do I fix that error message?
    Thanks!

    Tom_CAN,
I have the exact same problem.
All of my software is up to date.
Any help from the community would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Flickr integration with Front Row?

I have what I think is the latest version of Front Row (2.2.1, 314). I've seen some conflicting hearsay on the various web forums that there is a way to view flickr photos within Front Row. But I don't see that functionality in Front Row.
Anyone know of a Flickr plugin for Front Row? I'm aware of the Understudy plugin that allows adding YouTube and Hulu feeds, but I couldn't seem to add a flickr feed using that plugin. I'd love to view flickr photos via front row on my old powerbook, which I have set up as a media center attached to my HDTV.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. I had heard of the Media Central software, but I don't really want to pay ~$40 for a piece of software just to get the Flickr integration I'm after. Also, as you say, I suspect it won't run very well on my powerbook G4 (1.67 GHz with 1GB of RAM), which is already so taxed by driving my 1080p HDTV that YouTube and HULU videos are essentially unwatchable. I'm mainly using this powerbook like an apple TV to view my family photos and itunes library and on-board movies on my HDTV, all of which works great, but I was hoping to get quick access to flickr as well. I will probably get an Apple TV once Apple upgrades the hardware (hopefully some time in the next year?), but since I have my old powerbook G4 just sitting around for now I thought I'd get as much functionality as possible from it, without spending any significant amount of $. So far all I've spent is $3 on iphone apps to control the mac from the couch ( AirMouse and Rowmote), and $8 on an a headphone-RCA audio cable.
I was hoping someone knew about a FrontRow plugin that could duplicate the Apple TV Flickr integration.
I was also a bit confused by the apparently incorrect section on wikipedia, which claimed that the most recent version of Front Row had Flickr integration. Shouldn't be surprising that wikipedia is wrong sometimes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FrontRow(software)

  • Front Row & iPhoto slide shows

I love the new slide show options in iphoto 09, but apart from the song choice, the slideshow options do not transfer through to Front Row like they used to as far as I can see. It now just plays the pictures full screen one after the other with no transitions at all.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

IWelcome to the Apple Discussions. 'm able to get the music and saved settings to play thru Front Row if I select an album which I've set up. When you first select Photos in Front Row it's the albums that are displayed in the list. If you select photos a second time then it's the Events.
Setting up a slideshow in an album and saving the settings gets transferred to Front Row, at least on my G5. Events don't fare so well, even if the settings are saved.
Give albums a try and see if it will work for you.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Narcoleptic MPB when using Front Row

I have this odd issue when view photos in Front row with a secondary display attached. If I simply view an album, after about 8 or so photos, my machine goes to sleep. Clicking the remote wakes it to resume from the same place and the next photo will play, for about 10 seconds, and then back to sleep.
My computer is set to sleep only after 30 mins, not after a few mins.
Super weird bug. Oh, this is running a 2.53 MBP attached to a 23 inch Apple Cinema Display, using the 9400m.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

I had the same problem but it seemed to stop after I installed a program called Caffeine that prevents your Mac from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen or starting screen savers. I haven't had a freeze-up as long as I have it enabled.
