Analyzer 6.1 error connecting to Essbase 6.5 Olap Server

Has anyone experienced the following error after trying to select an Essbase data connection from the java web client:com/hyperion/ap/adm/HssConnHyperion product and version numbers: Essbase Olap Server 6.5 on a UNIX Server running AIX 4.3.3, Analyzer 6.1 running in Websphere 3.5.5 Advanced Edition on the same UNIX Server running AIX 4.3.3, Repository for Analyzer 6.1 stored within Oracle 8.1.1 on a seperate UNIX server running AIX 4.3.3 Client operating system: Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6, Internet Explorer 6.0.2, Netscape 6.2.2, Java Plug-in 1.3.1_02

I don't know about UNIX, but on NT, it expects you to have at least Oracle 8.1.7. That could be the problem.

Error connecting to Essbase Server when running business rules

We recently migrated from v9.3 to v11.1.1.3. I have two users with Administrative access who need to run business rules on a native Essbase application, but cannot. They get the message 'Error connecting to Essbase Server'. They get this message when trying to set this execution database. They can't even expand the server to see the list of applications. I have tried deprovisioning them in Shared Services, refreshing security, then adding it all back in and refreshing again, but it doesn't work. My own id has identical access to that which I'm granting them, and I have no problems. I even created a native user with the same access and it works as well. No matter what I do, I cannot get these two users to be able to run their business rules in EAS.
We also have a Planning application, and the Planning Administrative user has the same issue. However, this user is able to get around it by running rules using the Planning connection rather than the Essbase connection. She has the same issue of not seeing anything under the Essbase Servers when trying to set the execution database though.
In version 9, we were not using Shared Services for Essbase security. Unfortunately our consultant chose to set it up using Shared Services security when migrating, and according to the documentation, one cannot go back to using Native Essbase security.
I also tried running the Externalize Users wizard and the three users with issues failed to externalize. My own id did, and the native user I created succeeded.
Has anyone experienced an issue like this or have any ideas on how to resolve?

Follow up - Oracle has finally resolved this. It's so simple, yet no one thought to check until now. The three users with problems all have mixed case user id's in ldap. They have always logged into EAS with all lower case ids. In version 9, on native security, this was never a problem. But in version 11 using Shared Services (not sure which factor changed it), it doesn't work. The simple solution is to log in with their exact mixed case user ids. It only took Oracle three months and the creation of a bug issue to figure this out for us.

HBR Error connecting to Essbase server

Hi,
Getting an error " HBR Error connecting to Essbase server" while selecting the outline in create new business rule.Tried the below workaround,but still getting the same error.
* Copy the HBRServer.properties from AAS (<HyperionHome\Hyperion\AdminServices) to the Planning Server
(<HyperionHome\Hyperion\HyperionPlanning\AppServer\InstalledApps\...)
* Restart the services.
* Login to Hyperion Planning application. Connect to each application at issue to establish RMI connection.
* Log into AAS, Refresh security from Shared Services
Any solution/ workaround could be of very helpful.

Are you trying to create a business rule for planning or essbase, the error message you have posted is for trying to connect to essbase and you usually get that message if essbase is not started or unreachable.

When running business rule either from Planning Web (Planning 9.3.1.1.8) or EAS, sometime there will be a error "Error connecting to Essbase Server" appear.
After the error appear, all the can't be run.
But after a while, problem may disappear and all the rules can be run.
Anyone having this problem before, please help

I would try installing the Essbase 6.5.4.2 runtime on your Analyzer server. If this is the same server as Essbase don't worry as it shouldn't effect the operation of the server process. This certainly worked with Analyzer 7.0 and 6.5.1.Hope this helps.Paul Armitagewww.analitica.co.uk

FR Studio Error Connecting to Essbase

Hi,
We currently have FR 11.1.1.3 as well as Essbase 11.1.1.3. I'm able to use FR Studio via a Windows XP VM box we have setup as an admin box since most of the 11.1.1.3 stuff is not compatible with Windows 7 64-bit.
I have read the FR 11.1.1.3 is compatible with Windows 7. I have it installed on my Windows 7 machine and am able to open the studio client and see my reports in the repository but when I try to open a report I get an error.
"Failed to Connect to Server. Error connecting to database connection xx:xx"
Any ideas as to what might need to be done to get the connections to work?

I'm able to create a new database connection through Workspace but I attempted to in FR Studio and got the same error.
I don't know how to check that the correct ADM drivers are installed based on the datasource. I've attempted to uninstall FR Studio so I could re-install it fresh but the uninstaller just spins (no surprise at all).
Can I just copy a few folders over from the XP machine that does work with FR to get the correct drivers or is it something more involved?

Is your FR and Essbase installation on the same server machine?
Verify
- if the Essbase or FR services are up and are accessible by EAS Console(for Essbase) and FR Studio(for FR Server).
- use telnet and ping commands for network connectivity
- Add the IP Address and hostnames of the Essbase and FR servers in these machine's hosts file.
- Try restarting the complete hyperion suite services

Hi......I am able to login to almost all the apps (shared services, Web Analysis, FIR, Web Services etc) except EssBase Studio. When i try to login to essbase studio it says "error connecting essbase studio server"
with detailed error "Network communication with the server failed. Check your network connection and try again.
Connection refused: connect"
Any idea?

Unable to connect to Essbase via EAS after server re-ip

Hi all,
One of our environments have had the servers moved to new IP addresses. The DB server was completed changed so I had to reconfigure the environment, using the same databases, and redeployed all the components. Everything worked apart from EAS. It would not launch from the URL nor would it work if the console was installed on a server or PC. I logged an SR and it was suggested to update java which I did but it made no difference. A remote session yielded nothing. I decided to uninstall EAS and reinstall it dropping the tables in the DB and having them recreated as we use calc man for Planning. The EAS console now launches but I can't connect to Essbase. It just hangs and complains of an invalid log in. I tried the native admin account but that made no difference. Here is an extract of the logs

EAS is installed on the same server as Planning, APS, RA etc. essbase is on a separate box as are the sql databases so in all 3 servers for this environment.
Essbase is definitely started as I can connect to it using EAS from another environment and retrieve database from the apps in excel.

If you are able to connect to Essbase using EAS from another Server or PC. and in that Server only if you not able to connect to Essbase using EAS
it is Java issue only. (Ensure ESSBASE.EXE process is there in Essbase Server)
Which version of Hyyperion you are using??
Uninstall Java and install again.

Acording to me you are faceing this issue because the entry of your backend System is not in the SLD (System Landscape Directory ) of your server.
to make this work you have to make entry in the SLD of your server
fort that plesae acess this link.

ODBC Error connecting to a stored procedure SQL Server 2008 - Crystal 8.5

I am running a local copy of SQL server 2008 and get an ODBC error when connecting to any stored procedure with or without parameter. The database are running in SQL Server 2000 compatibility mode on the local server.
Do not get the error when connecting to one or more databse tables or when connecting to a stored procedure on a remote database.
The error reported is "ODBC error:[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server driver] Syntax error or access violation"
I am running Vista OS.
Any help would be appreciated..

Interesting combination. All but CR 8.5 is supported on that OS.
When you created your DSN did you using the 2008 Client or MDAC?
I suggest you go back to supported platforms for CR 8.5
If not then start debugging Vista permissions to start with...

Attendant console error - connection failure .... using server port 1859

Hi we are having issues where the user is unable to login to the attenadnt console
the error is as follows -
A connection failure has occurred attempting to connect to server: using server ort: 1859. Please ensure the server is active, and the logging information is correct.
After reboot everything is OK
the netstat shows the app listening on 1859 is CTSS.exe? Which service does it corelate to in Windows? I can check if that service is running next time. I did not find a CTSS service ot something that sounds similar.
Also, in order to open a TAC Case where do I find the serial number for the Attendant console?

Certificate error connecting to VPN, can not validate server

Used the configuration utility to configure a profile for VPN using certificate as authentication. Keep getting error, can not validate server. When I export the cert to my desktop, I see the CRL information in it. When I view the details of the cert after installing on the iPad, I don't see any CRL information. I'm guessing this may be the problem only not sure how to resolve it.

solved the problem by adding an additional attribute in the certificate request to the VPN server (cisco router) and first enable the server SubjectAltName CA

EAS 11.1.2 Services not connecting to Essbase 11.1.2

Could you advice on what services are needed only on server2
to enable EAS 11.1.2 to connect to server1, and access Essbase data..
Here is the setup
Server1
windows server 2008 R2 x64
Eas is installed "and working when conneted to Server1"
Essabse is installed and working
and all the usual Foundation stuff is installed and working
Server2
Eas is installed only
and all the usual Foundation stuff is installed.

I am not sure why you want EAS on its own on a server but anyway you would only need "Hyperion Administration Services - Web Application" running on server 2 and it should be able to connect to essbase on a different server.

Unable to connect to SAP gateway to RFC server failed(hostname unknow)

Hi All,
I am trying to create a new Model(to connect to SAP R/3 server) using the following steps:
1.Selecting Import Adaptive RFC Model
2.Entering Model name,package,default logical system names
3.Selecting the single server option and giving the details of the SAP R/3 server.
When I try to connect it gives me the following error :
-Connect from SAP gateway to RFC server failed.
Also it mentions :
<b>"ERROR hostname 'sapR3' unknown "</b>
Where <b>sapR3</b> is the entry corresponding to the IP address in the host file.
Further I am able to establish a telnet session using the same hostname in command prompt.
I have searched the Internet for solutions, but I haven't found any yet.Any ideas?

Hi,
Please check if the hostname that you specify in the "Reimport Model" GUI of NWDS matches with the application server name specified in your R/3 system.The same can be verified by following three simple steps:
1) Open the SAP LogOn.
2) Choose the server to which you wanted to connect and right click on it to get the "properties" in the context menu.
3) Look for the value entered in the field "Application Server" in the properties window.
