Android 4 for Droid Charge?

So will it ever be coming for the charge or will it be quicker to wait until I am eligible for another upgrade?

definitely quicker to upgrade to a new device with ICS already installed.  however, once Jelly Bean and Key Lime Pie come out, folks will be clammoring for that too.
<< Comment removed to comply with Verizon Wireless Terms of Service >> the ICS is available for the Charge, but it still has some bugs in it (like no mobile data connection, working camera, or bluetooth).  but nobody is really using it, as this is a "work-in-progress" build, and of course, it's unofficial.

If I get Total Equipment Coverage for Droid Charge, will I be billed $99 when my phone is lost
and replaced with a refurbished Droid Charge?     (because of the $99 deductible)

Thank you to the community for your replies.
Its very frustrating when a device gets lost. Total Equipment Coverage protects you from paying full retail price for a device. Yes the deductible is 99.00 for a smart phone prior to Asurion sending out a replacement device. Please click this link to see the great benefits of Total Equipment Coverage.

  • Notifications for Droid Charge

I recently purchased a Droid Charge.  Like most people, I use my phone during the day and charge at night.  Now I get a 1 am wakeup ding each night when the battery is full.  How can I turn off the battery notification without turning off all notifications (email, missed call, etc.)?  Thanks.

What I have found is that you can download the widget I mentioned above, change the notification tone for each individual app that may be giving you a notification, turn down the volume, etc.  I too use the desktop cradle next to my bed and I silence my phone using the BW widget.
I also take my cradle on the road with me while traveling.  When I do that I cannot silence my phone, so what I've done is change the default notification tone to the facebook pop (very unobtrusive).  I then went back and set a different notification tone for email, text, etc.  That way if my family needed to get a hold of me in the middle of the night I wouldn't miss a call / text.
I know it's a little more work, but it's the only way I was able to work around getting woken up.

Since it's Samsung, I'd say probably in the next 6-8 months if you're lucky.
Your waaay too optimistic..... When we were on Sprint my wife's Epic 4G barely got Froyo in late May 2011. and it was like a downgrade. Screwed up voice calling  big time.

Just found it on the Android Marketplace.
Note: It first downloads version 1.2.2 which doesn't work, but then it should immediately tell you there is an update back at the marketplace. It will download 1.3.0.
Works wonderfully, finally got it on this gorgeous phone, Thanks Netflix!

    Dear Volition,
Nice! I went on the Market and searched; it brought me right to v1.3.0 build 246.

  • Droid charge messaging ringtones

For Droid Charge, I would like to set a unique ringtone for specific contacts when a text message is received. I can set a specific ringtone for each contact when a call is received, but I can find no way to set a unique and different ringtone when a text message is received. For example, for contact Jane Doe, I set a ringtone for calls received and I want to set a different ringtone for Jane Doe text messages received. Is there away to do this?

If the Droid Charge is like all other smartphones, you'll have to download a 3rd party app such as Handcent to do this.

How much trade-in value can I get from VZW or BestBuy or Amazon?

  • Looking for earphones/mic that actually work with Droid Charge?

New to Droid Charge and am finding out that finding a set of earphones with a microphone for answering calls is pretty difficult.  Found quite a few that are supposed to work with the Charge, but after reading the reviews find that they don't in some way or another.  Help!!!

I have the V-Moda Remix 4S. They list for $80, but got them at Costco for $50 - then they had them on sale for $30 last month- D'oh.  They're very solid; the earbuds are metal instead of plastic, the cord is made out of nylon (I think) and has a Kevlar center - these are the toughest earbuds I've seen.  The best/worst thing about it is the play button.  On my Charge (like it does on an iPod/iPhone), it starts and stops calls, starts and stops music, skips to the next/previous song and enables shuffle -  which I found surprising (I use Doubletwist as my music player).  The down-side is that it's a little awkward to press - it's convex instead of concave.  The microphone works as it should.  They're probably worth the $80, but they're a steal at $30 if you can get them.

  • Any Chance Droid Charge (Samsung SCH-I510) Will Get Another OS Update?

I received the Charge, free of Charge (pun intended!) a little over a year ago.  They were giving them away for a 2-yr contract renewal, and I bit!
I've had the Charge for approx. 16 months.  During that time, I have received 3 OTA updates (FP1, FP5 & FP8).  I have also noticed several problems mentioned in these forums already.  Most notably, the problem causing me the most grief is when multiple instances of the phone are created (launched by me, after no activity after each app instance).  All app instances appear simultaneously, and the poor person on the receiving end of the phone call hears me talking through several phone apps simultaneously ... echoing like mad.  Usually, a reboot clears this up.
I should mention that this problem doesn't happen nearly as much since FP8 was pushed.  Don't know if that was a coincidence or not.  But the problem does still happen occasionally.
I recently had another critical issue happen.  All of a sudden, I was getting force closes from many apps simultaneously, including system apps (com.android processes).  The phone became unusable.  Factory reset didn't resolve the problem.  After doing some research, I found that I could push stock software and re-partition the memory space again through ODIN.  I did this, and had no success at first because the phone thought I was using a non-stock battery, even though nothing had changed with the battery (stock battery received with the phone).  After pulling the battery, and re-installing, and pushing the stock software w/ re-partition (pushed the original EP4D flavor of OS), the phone operated as it did when I first received it.  Verizon pushed the "OTA" updates (FP1, FP5 & FP8), and my phone was back to good-as-new performance.  Actually, the phone is quite snappy now.
Needless to say, I'm still concerned about the Charge.  I am not up for contract renewal until March of 2014, so I'm just planning on doing a factory reset whenever I have these problems.
I recently read an article, stating that a bug was discovered in Feb 2013, which allows many devices made in the last 4 years (since "Donut" flavor of Android) to be susceptible to a bug taking advantage of "Master Key".  It claims that a dev could unknowingly push an apk to the Play store, which is infected with this issue.  It seems to be a stretch.  Here's the URL to the article:
    http://tinyurl.com/kj63ae8
I have followed the suggestions outlined in the article, and found that the Samsung droid charge is susceptible.  However, I've read a bit on XDA, and found that this is not really a huge problem, as it requires a user to install an infected apk, which doesn't happen all that often.  It's a flaw in the OS which bug-devs are not actively taking advantage of, it would seem.
Here's my question, I know the few Droid Charge owners out there are still a bit hopeful that it will get an update to the Jellybean OS.  Any chance this is possible?  I for one, would love this!
    Thanks for your consideration.

  • Droid Charge ever getting new OS?

I'd love to hear from Verizon or Samsung with a definite answer on this, but will the Droid Charge ever get ICS? Or for that matter Jellybean? I can't help but feel like this device was seemingly abandoned shortly after launch. Outside of the update to Gingerbread and the recent bug fix, we're now 2 full Android releases behind, while even the Nexus S has even been updated to Jellybean (the Nexus S being six months older than the Charge).

Ice Cream sandwich does not require 1GB of RAM:
    "256MB RAM or More
    and also decent GPU
Hardware-accelerated 2D drawing might be needed, 2D acceleration depends on your phone GPU not the CPU so, there’s no problem if your smartphone still powered with ARMv6."
    Source 1, Source 2
Also you can run Jelly Bean on the Original Droid which has worse specs than the Droid Charge. Source
Chances of the Droid Charge seeing any sort of update to the newer versions are highly unlikely. Reason being the Droid Charge was already neutered when it launched. It has been forgotten by Verizon and Samsung. The only way you will see an update is not allowed to be discussed on this forum, but those chances are diminishing since most of the people that were working on it have left for greener pastures.

  • Droid Charge - dropping service, no incoming calls, screen freezing, going black...

This is my 4th Droid Charge. I've never been so disappointed. Nor have I ever needed one to work more. Not a good time to have a phone that just plain is not up to par.
This replaced a Fascinate, that I did not have problems with until Verizon did some sort of "download" on.
Ph #1 - literally acted possessed. Until the manager saw for himself after treating me like a mental case. ie "Well, set the screen time out for TEN MINUTES, if the screen keeps going black!" So he did & it went black, not to be "restored" without being turned off & re-started. Then, when it did "time-out" suddenly it went into V-Cast...no one was near it. It also would go into airplane mode...I could not retrieve voice mail; after entering the 2nd of 4 #'s, the screen went black.
Finally, it got replaced after then entire staff "witnessed" the phone I had to live with day in & day out. Guess the customer is always wrong....until proven time & time again, that the phione REALLY IS defective despite years of never complaining about a phone.
Ph#2 - I NEED the voice dial....I do. I travel in my work  I have appts. If I am going to be late  NEED to be courteous & call. While driving on the freeway, getting off & stopping only makes things ten times worse.  While in the cup-holder, I can tap that....say who to call...and viola...BUT....it immediately says "Turn phone off" ...then try again. Well. how many times can you do that?? I mean really. How many times are you expected to turn your phone off for an app that comes installed ON the phone & should work. Right??
Ph#3 - Would NOT hold the signal...AND Voice Dial did not work.... did not back up info....messages did not come through, nor did phone calls. {even in the Verizon Store!! NO SIGNAL...they erased my phone for the umpteenth time!!! Grrrrrrr]
Ph #4 - arrived with YouTube loaded...to "How to Use Your Android Phone" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No kidding.
Screen locks up. Screen goes black & phone turns itrself off. Will not hold a signal...calls not coming through....
I saw others are also having these same issues. VERY frustrating trying to do "business" from a phone that is totally uncoopereative & unrealiable.
    Very disappointed in this phone.

Steve, if the tech says get a replacement then that is what I would do.
But before I did, I would have them walk me thru a hard reset.
Sometimes that will help with ALL sorts of problems.
    Godd luck!

  • What Are My Data Options for Droid 2? What About Texts?

I'm looking over the available plans and I'm really confused.
I've had the same plan pretty much for the past 15 months but I started with a Blackberry. Now I have a Droid 2 and I REALLY need to find a way to shave off some money from this bill.
My bill is always $118 and change with never goes above $119.
I have 900 minutes, was gonna take it down to 450 but viewing my usage I have been around 431-445 the past 3 months. I also have $10 for texts which I hate, I thought there was a $5 text plan?
Insurance, yes, have to because I can't afford a landline and don't have a house to put it in anyway.
I tried to get out of my contract with Verizon when I first became really sick. They were having none of that. I have been sick since September 2010 (symptoms 3 years) and the doctors have been running tests to find out what's causing the problem.
The tricky part is I cannot work anymore, used up everything I had in savings, and even sold my car to have money to pay for medical bills. Now I'm stuck trying to get state health insurance and am without a place to live.
I don't have income from any source but a lot of debt.
I wish Verizon would work with me as even when I can't buy food, I make sure bills are paid because I need that phone on so I doctors can reach me.
I'm not sure how long I'll be unable to work and when I can not sure how long it will take to find work.
I asked them if they could take the Droid 2 back and let me have a regular phone with no data and they said "no, you'll have to pay full retail price for the phone". I believe that was over $500 (no mention of the $179.99 I paid for the broken Tours)
Now here is the back story which really **bleep** me off that they could have screwed me twice:
The only reason I have the Droid 2 is because when I upgraded after my 1st year with Verizon, I got a Blackberry Tour. That phone had so many problems I had to keep taking it in every month for a replacement. Verizon refused to exchange for a different Blackberry.
I even called RIM and they said they had "design" issues with the Tour and it's being taken off the market with the phone carriers, they said Verizon should be allowing you to get a replacement phone of same or lower cost (another Blackberry).
Well that never happened and I had to file an FCC complaint before corporate finally called to help me. I even told them the "NEW" Tour I paid for when I signed a new contract was refurbished because when I tried to send the info in for the rebate, I got an letter stating that particular phone already received it's rebate.
I should have stopped it right there, given them their used phone back and walked away but I'm thinking they are working with me and gave me the rebate ASAP, it will be OK.
WRONG!! 6 months into the contract with the **bleep**ty Tour not working and 6 replacements, they agree to give me another phone for $50. I said drop dead, no more money from me for your issue.
Then they said OK we'll give you a phone of the same value at no charge. So not knowing how the Bold was gonna work yet, I went with a Droid 2 as the Droid 1 had been out awhile and bugs worked out.
Now here is the real kicker in the whole story. After they mailed me the new Droid, I was online paying my bill and noticed Verizon re-set my contract start date from January 2010 to August 2010.
No one told me that and I couldn't get anyone to help fix that mess, they said you got a new phone, what else do you want?
What do you think happened about 2 months after I get the Droid 2??  Yes, Verizon changed the policy and replaced the Tours with the Blackberry Bold for no charge and no contract extension.
Had they told me that, I would have used my old Blackberry for 2 months and gotten the Bold and be closer to getting out of this stupid contract.
I don't know, they make it so hard for honest people who have hit hard times and dealt with bad phone after bad phone to just get a fair break.
I asked so what happens if I just want out of the contract and they said it would cost like $350. If I had $350 I wouldn't be typing this. I suppose I can fake my own death and get out of the contract that way. They make no concession for persons who become disabled and can no longer work. I don't know how long I'll be "disabled" or if I ever won't be "disabled" but I like to think things will get better.
Any ideads would be great. I did talk with someone at UCAN, they help people in CA get out of cell contracts when they have extrordinary circumstances and they gave me a number for a lady at Verizon.
I called that women for 4 months every single day, 4 times a day. She never answered her phone or called me back, ever!
So guess I work on becoming dead since that's my only option. I will never, ever, ever sign a cell contract as long as live, if I live.
I don't mean to sound like such a bitchy customer, I really feel I was screwed from the start of this contract and the screws keep coming!

Not sure why you posted this in the iPhone forum but sorry you're having such a difficult time. With that being said, unfortunately, VZW isn't obligated to assist you in difficult financial times although it would be great if they did. As far as you wanting to get into a non-smart phone to lessen your bill...you will have to look into alternative ways to obtain one if you want to avoid paying full retail. Do you have any friends with Verizon? Check and see if any of them have an old phone that they don't use. Lower your plan to less minutes and actively monitor your usage. Save non-essential personal calls until after 9:00 pm on weekdays if you're calling non-verizon customers. Even without a house phone it is not difficult to get by on a 450 min plan without going over your minutes. My mother did it for 5 years and never once went over her minutes nor did she have a landline phone to use. Text when possible to avoid using minutes. If you stay with the Droid then try to find texting apps or widgets that can help eliminate the need for a text plan. You can also check into services like Skype that can allow you to make free calls to other users...some of your friends may gladly subscribe to those services so that you can communicate and use less plan minutes. You should also talk to VZW to see what lower plan options you have.

Don't install New Ice Cream Sandwich update for Droids dated October 2012 !!!! DON'T DO IT !!!!  I had a perfectly GREAT Droid Bionic untill I installed the NEW IC Sandwich operating Sys Verizon sent me when I turned the phone on 3 days ago.
Now Texting is a nightmare w/ every letter needing to be corrected do to tiny unforgiving keyboard.
Vm doesn't notify me when a call is missed.
Map is 3 miles off fr present location.
Apps & Icons on main screen randomly disapear & re-apear hrs later.
Icons are always in a different spot when ever phone is turned on.
Now I have to hit multiple buttons to answer phone. Before only had to hit one key.
No responce when touching apps such as browser or gallery
settings menu is totally confusing - old menu was clear and simple.
first time I used Alarm function I couldn't turn off alarm - had to pwr down phone.
Verizon refuses to reinstall old software that was "PROBLEM FREE".
