Animations in Captivate 5

I just created a project using powerpoint slides. I imported the slides, added audio to each slide, and also added animations (boxes that appear and disappear to hight points). The animations work perfect while I am working on the project in captivate but once I publish them the disappear. If i mess around with the time line slider in the player the boxes then appear and it works as it should. That is until it goes to the next slide. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Could you please explain a little bit more to have a better idea of your problem? The animations that you inserted, which kind of animations: created in Flash, animated GIF, Text animations in CP? And what do you mean by ' If i mess around with the time line slider in the player the boxes then appear and it works as it should'. I think that you are referring to the playhead on the Timeline (red rectangle that you can move to scrub the timeline) and not the zoom slider at the bottom? Could you explain what you exactly did "when messing around" and perhaps post a screenshot of the timeline? Can you check the properties of the animations, more specifically eventual transition? Did you preview the CP-file and if yes were the animations then playing (Preview Project or Preview in Browser).

  • Flash animations in Captivate look choppy

I am using Flash animations in Captivate 3. The animations
are published to Flash Player 6 before being embedded in Captivate.
The Captivate project is in turn published to Flash Player 9.
The animations look good in the published Captivate SWF when
I run the SWF directly in Flash Player. However, if I run the SWF
in a browser (I tried both IE & Firefox, having Flash Player
9.0.45.0), the animations look very choppy and slow. What could be
    the reason?
    Regards,
    Mohsin

    Kevin & Rick,
Thanks for your responses. I diagnosed the problem. It did
not have anything to do with frame rates.
What was actually happening is that my Captivate SWF was
1024x768 originally, but when opening it in an HTML, I was NOT
loading it at 100% of its size. Instead, I was loading it at
880x660 in the OBJECT tag of my HTML, which was causing the issue.
Even when I would open the SWF directly using IE, IE would resize
the content in order to display it completely, thereby causing the
animations playing within to rescale. This, somehow, made them look
    choppy.
    Cheers!

  • Controlling Flash Animations in Captivate

    Hi Folks,
I have a simple Flash animation running in Captivate. What is the best/easiest way to pause and play/resume that animation in Captivate? I'm using Captivate 5 and Flash Professional CS5.
Thanks very much for your help,
    Roger

    Hi Roger,
The animation will pause when you have a pause on the timeline from a click box or another interactive object.
If you want a dedicated button to pause/play you'll need to attach an advanced (conditional) action, because you'll need to influence two system variables:
rdcmndPause  has to be set to 1 to pause everything, including the animation
rdcmndResume has to be set to 1 to continue playing.

  • Importing Flash Animation into Captivate

I am trying to Import an animation from flash 8 into
Captivate. It allows me to do this however the frame rate of the
animation which was created in flash when imported to Captivate
changes. Does anyone know how change the frame rate of the
    animation in captivate.

Hi laxmi1 and welcome to the community
Hopefully when you created your Flash animation, you
    published as Flash 6 output.
I believe the standard frame rate for Flash is 12. Captivate
is 30. So you can either bump the Flash rate up to 30 and
re-publish, or in Captivate, you can adjust the frame rate to match
Flash and set it for 12. To do this, click Movie >
Preferences... > Preferences tab. From there, it should be quire
    obvious what to do.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Issues with loading flash as3 animation in Captivate

    Hello Everyone,
I have a flash file that pulls together two external swf files and displays them one after the other. This flash file has only the AS3 code to display the two external swf files. The external swfs are in the same folder as the final flash file. When I insert the final flash animation into Captivate using the Insert-->animation feature in Captivate, and view the published the file, the swf file starts automatically playing right from the first slide till the end of the project. The swf file is actually placed in the second slide of Captivate. Has anyone had similar experience? Am I missing something?
    Thank you.

In all probability there's something wrong with your AS3 code and it's not working once you add your loader SWF into a Captivate movie.  This may be due to the fact that the Captivate movie is also a Flash Movie Clip too.  So if your AS3 code has the loader looking for the other two SWFs at the same level it's never going to find them once you add it into Captivate because it's buried one level too far down.  Change your AS3 code to allow for this and things might start working.

  • Is it possible to import a png sequence to be used as an animation into Captivate 7?

Knowing that png files come into Captivate quite well, I am wondering if it is possible to bring in a sequence of png files, that are an animation, without having to bring them in one at a time and lining them up on the timeline one after the other?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Thanks for your reply. However, I have tried going the route of animated gif files already with mixed results (more bad than good) and was hoping there was an easy way to drop in a sequence of png files, as I would imagine that they would all show.
But may I ask the settings (to save the files) you used for your animated gif files? The problem with mine was that the animations would not play (most of the time) when I would run the slides with the animations in IE and Safari. The animation looked fine in Captivate but as soon as I pushed them out to HTML5 animations would not play. I have been using Photoshop with the following settings in the image below:
Also, if you could let me know if you tested your course with any gif animations in IE or Safari and let me know your results, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks!!!

  • Import powerpoint 2007 animation to Captivate 3

    I've created a single-slide presentation in powerpoint 2007
that has an animated smart art that flys on to the screen. I saved
my powerpoint 2007 file as a ppt not pptx. I imported the file to
Captivate 3 as animation. but when I preview the project, the
animation just shows up as a non-animated object. It doesn't have
any of the animated qualities of the original powerpoint.
See this link to see what I'm talking about:
    http://screencast.com/t/zgTOYx35Bd

I would agree that recording the animation as it plays in PPT
could help. That is how I have done several of my animations rather
    than import them.
What I have found in the process is make sure you set the
Captivate screen to only cover the area of powerpoint where the
animation takes place. That is, you can have powerpoint in a slide
view and click the play test button to record but only record the
    slide area.
Another thing you may want to do is be sure the animation in
powerpoint has a delay to begin with. This gives you time to first
click record (I am using full motion recording here) and let the
captivate red box go a way and then click the Play button in
    powerpoint.
This sounds kind of crazy as I type it here but it works.
Trying to record a complete powerpoint slide show was more
problimatic to me than doing it the way I describe. For one thing,
the resulting animation is very large. I prefer the smaller slide
    size animation/recording.
I hope this help. Still not sure what else to to tell

  • Import PowerPoint with animations into Captivate 4 ?

Can anyone let me know if it is possible to import a PowerPoint presentation into Captivate 4 AND keep all the PowerPoint animations exactly as created in the original PowerPoint ?
If this is not possible, what are the options ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Noel

    Hi Noel
I think the PowerPoint to Captivate conversion is a mixed bag. Mostly, I believe folks will be disappointed with the process.
Certain animations seem to survive the conversion and others seem to fail. But the bottom line here is that we are taking a file created by a Microsoft application, sucking it into an Adobe application and expecting the result to work without a hitch. And I'm not sure how often we will see this work flawlessly. I mean, it's not unlike removing an engine from a Fiat and expecting it to seamlessly bolt up and work in a Volvo. There will be stumbling blocks.
To be honest, I'm amazed it works as well as it does.
The only way I'm aware of to create a Captivate that behaves exactly as the PowerPoint behaves is to present the PowerPoint show in a window. Then use Captivate to surround the window and record it using FMR as the PowerPoint does its thing. Any other way is likely going to result in having to fudge things here and there and tweak them to make them work as desired. Possibly even re-creating things here and there in Captivate.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Flash animation in Captivate - Embedded fonts not displaying.

I'm in Captivate 5 creating a lesson, I have made a simple animation in Flash 5 that contains one word in the animation. I output it from Flash to a .swf. Before I output it I set the font (Arial) to embed. It previews fine, when I view the small library review animation in C5 it appears fine. When I F10 to preview the slides, the font has reverted to a default system font. Any idea why the embedded font would not display properly when I do a 5 slide preview in Captivate?

  • Need help with placing Flash animations in Captivate...

I have a few short animations I did in Flash that I want to put in Adobe Captivate. They place fine and play fine. But I wanted to know if it is possible to have the last frame of the animation show for the rest of the captivate slide. Thanks!

If I place a .swf in a Captivate slide (v5), it allows me to drag the duration of the swf placeholder to be as short or long within the slide duration.  If the swf file's duration is shorter than the Captivate slide's duration, it cuts out after X seconds, but if I drag the swf duration to match the slide, it plays as long as the slide does.  Is that the info you're looking for or is there more to it?

  • Speeding up a Flash animation in Captivate 5.5

    Hi,
I created an animation in Flash 5.5 and imported it into Captivate 5.5. The animation simulates cursive writing, so I set the FPS to 70 in order to look like normal writing. Unfortunately, since Captivate is defaulted to 30 fps, the animation plays slowly.
Is there any way to increase the speed of a single animation in a slide?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, but either way (setting the fps high or low in Flash), Captivate will render it at the moderate speed of 30 fps. I'm thinking that I'm just going to have to recreate the flash animation so that it appears faster at 30 fps. That's something I'm going to have to do when I actually create the animation.
    Thanks...

  • Synchronizing a Flash animation with Captivate

    Hey,
Does anyone know how to connect, or synchronize, an animation to a Captivate CS5 timeline such that each frame of the animation is tied to a respective frame on the Cp slide? In other words, I want frame 1 of my animation to start on frame 1 of my Cp slide (which it currently doesn't, regardless of where I put it on the Cp timeline), and I would lilke the animation to pause and play according to what the Cp slide is doing.
    Here's what I did:
I made a slideshow animation in Flash CS5 that I put in a Cp slide on top of audio. The animation lasts 35.5 seconds, same as the Cp slide.
I put the animation at the beginning of the timeline, told it to play for the 'rest of slide', and checked 'Sychronize with Project' (which does nothing as far as I can tell).
I put a stop (); command at the end of the animation so it doesn't repeat (and that's literally the only code I have in there at this point).
The animation and the Cp project are both at 30 frames per second.
Here's what happens when previewing (F4ing) the project:
When the project gets to that slide, the framework of the slide (audio/click boxes/buttons/etc) runs fine, but when the slide starts, it starts in the middle of the animation. I.e., when the slide starts, frame 1 of the Cp slide plays while frame (say...) 75 of the animation plays.
The animation starts at a different place every time.
Also, when I pause the slide, the animation keeps playing, which makes the problem worse. I would like the animation to pause when the Cp slide is paused.
I know that animations generally act a certain way, but I would like to know if there is a way to change its behavior so that everything works together. Best-case scenario, there is an option somewhere that I'm overlooking, and worst-case, I would imagine that there is some way to write some actionscript into the Flash animation that tells frame 1 to always be attached to Cp's frame 1, and frame 2 to always to attached to Cp's frame 2, etc, with every frame. I'm new with Actionscript, so I don't know how to do that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Brian,
After looking at your .fla file for the animation and doing some research, I've found the issue.  As Rod Ward correctly points out in this post:
Captivate 5 was a total rewrite from the Captivate 4 software architecture and it introduced a subtle but fundamental change in the way that Flash animations were handled in Captivate published content.
Basically the change means that if your animation was built down a level or two inside a symbol rather than on the main timeline at the top level, then you will find that Captivate 5 or 5.5 loads and executes the animation on the first slide of the movie. This means that by the time you get to the actual slide where you WANTED the animation to perform it's magic, it's already run and finished.
In Captivate 4 this did not happen.  The animation was not really loaded until later in the movie timeline so as to be ready for the slide where it was required.  It didn't matter if the animation was buried inside a symbol or not.
    You have two choices:
Revamp your animation so that it all happens on the main timeline in the Flash FLA file that generates it.
Get your Flash programmer to add some ActionScript code to the animation so that it does NOT play completely when first loaded at the beginning of the project at runtime.
Looking at your .fla file, I noticed you had a MovieClip/Symbol called "Animations" that contained the time line but the main .fla movie's time line was pretty much empty.  Following the logic of option 1, I moved all the layers from the "Animations" time line to the .fla movie root time line and that fixed it.  In Captivate, I also checked "Synchronize with Project" for the animation's properties and the animation did in fact pause and play when I paused and played the Cp movie.
So bottom line is to make sure that you're using the main time line for any animation you're developing in Flash Professional.
    Hope that helps,
    Jim Leichliter

  • Importing and editing PowerPoint (animations) in Captivate 5

    <banging head on desk> <and cursing>
I started my Captivate by importing a PowerPoint slide show. I've added audio and am doing most of the animation in PowerPoint since it's lots of bullets and some charts and things. I thought it'd be easier to manage this way and wanted to see how it all works since I'm new to version 5 of Captivate.
So I edit the PowerPoint, go back to Captivate, update the presentation and it seems to be working okay. Then I thought I'd try something different ... what if I edit just the slide so I don't have to wait for the entire thing to update?
    IT WRECKED MY ANIMATION. (waaa!)
I spent a lot of time getting the animation perfect and the edit I made is the only thing now animated, the rest shows up as a group.
    Did I do something wrong?
Is there a preferred way to work with Captivate and PPT together? Is it a crazy idea I have that I'm wanting to control the animation in PowerPoint?
Captivate doesn't have the control of working with paragraph level animation, does it?
    Thanks,
    Jo

    Hi Jo,
Do I understand it all right: your issue was originated when you tried to edit one slide with the roundtripping from Captivate to Powerpoint? What is indicated in the Library besides the Presentation? Which version of PPT are you using?
I prefer myself to have everything in Captivate, because imported PPT-animations are just FMR and editing in CP is cumbersome.  But the roundtripping is there to be used of course and should work. I hope that your CP-version is up to date?
A bulleted animated list could also be spread on different slides if you do not want the workaround with different Text Captions.

  • Adding swf animation to Captivate Slide

    Hello Forum Members,
I have a problem. I just used Flash (CS3 Pro) to make a small
animation that moves a few objects
across the stage, and has glow filters, etc. I have also
added eventlisteners for mouse over and mouse out on this swf. The
swf plays fine in standalone mode (in Flash Player, etc). I have an
object that gets created via action script in this swf as well as
objects already on the stage (design time).
I then insert this swf file into a Captivate (3.0) slide -
the animations do not play correctly, my object that gets created
in the swf timeline never appears, and the rollover/out actions do
not play. Am I not understanding the capability of Captivate to
"play" Flash animations? I was hoping to use this flash element in
    my Captivate project.
    Thanks for a helpful forum,
    eholz1

Thanks for your reply!  Here's a better explanation of my end goal.
I want to create a software simulation.  I want my question to look and
function interactively in a limited way just like the piece of software.  I
will then ask them to do a task using this software and mark them correct if
    they finish it correctly.
For example, if I was using MS Word I want a master slide that includes the
menu drop downs and hover effects that would match the actual program.  I
could use those over and over and each question just add the content unique
    for the question.
Does that make sense?  Can Captivate do that?
