  • ANNOUNCE: JRockit 5.0 R26 released

    Hello all,
    We have now released JRockit 5.0 R26, which is the latest update to our J2SE 5.0 version. Download this update here:
    http://commerce.bea.com/products/weblogicjrockit/5.0/jr_50.jsp
    <b>New supported platforms</b>
    - Windows x64 Edition (native 64-bit JVM)
    - Solaris 9 Sparc (available before xmas)
    - Full support for SuSE 9.0 and Red Flag 5.0
    http://e-docs.bea.com/jrockit/jrdocs/suppPlat/supp_50.html#1010432
    <b>Larger heaps</b>
    - 64-bit JRockit verified to work with 320 GB heap
    - Significantly larger heaps on Windows

    - significant improvements to 64-bit performance
    - floating point performance
    <b>Updated Java version</b>
    - JDK 5.0 Update 4
    <b>Updated and expanded documentation</b>
    http://e-docs.bea.com/jrockit/webdocs/index.html
    <b>JRockit Mission Control</b>
    - Full support for JRockit's unique tooling in production environments is now available. Developer license are available for free, as always.
    http://dev2dev.bea.com/jrockit/tools.html
    For a full list of the significant changes, see the release notes at
    http://e-docs.bea.com/jrockit/releases/5026x/relnotes/relnotes.html#1051394
    Note that starting with this release, JRockit will not include the Java Plugin or Java Web Start. The main reason for this exclusion is security concerns. We are investigating if they can be provided as-is in a separate download in the future.

    This new version crashes, both on Linux FC2 and Windows XP SP2, when starting Art Of Illusion (http://www.artofillusion.org), on ia32.
    AoI works fine with BEA JRockit 1.5.0_02 on Linux and BEA JRockit 1.4.2 on Linux and Windows, on ia32.
    It is very easy to reproduce the problem: download/install AoI, follow instructions. It should take you 5 to 10 minutes to see the problem.
    They have a performance test that may interest you too.
    Regards,
    Tony

    Hi!
    For Linux x64, you can download the R25.2.0 version now. The reason it wasn't made available at the time we released R25.2.0 was because the testing on RHEL 4.0 QU1 wasn't finished. We updated the page a couple of weeks later when the testing was done.
    If you go to http://commerce.bea.com/products/weblogicjrockit/5.0/jr_50.jsp, you can download the 64-bit version of JRockit for EM64T and AMD64. Here is the direct link to the JDK download:

    Hello,
    I ran into the same problem searching for the 1.4.2 JDK for Windows x64 platform and found this discussion post. It was helpful!
    Could you tell me where to download the JCE policy files from? Do they need to match the same JDK version (1.4.2)?
    The Install Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 Java on Windows MS SQL Server says to download the JCE policy files for your platform (Windows x64) from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads. But I could only find jce_policy-6.zip. Is that the right JCE policy files for Windows 2003 x64 64bit platform for SUN JSE 1.4.2 64bit?
    Thanks,
    Asif

  • ANNOUNCE: JRockit R26.4 released!

    Hello all,
    I'm happy to announce the release of JRockit R26.4! This new version of JRockit supports both J2SE 1.4.2 and 5.0 and can be downloaded here:
    http://commerce.bea.com/products/weblogicjrockit/5.0/jr_50.jsp (J2SE 5.0 Update 6)
    http://commerce.bea.com/products/weblogicjrockit/1.4.2/142_x.jsp (J2SE 1.4.2_11)
    This JRockit release is supported with all current versions of WLS (7.0, 8.1, 9.x). It is the first JRockit R26 release to be supported with WLS 8.1. This means that all WLS 8.1 users now can benefit from the large set of JVM enhancements found in JRockit R26, including:
    - JRockit Mission Control 1.0 (including the popular Memory leak detector)
    - Support for ~3 GB heaps on 32-bit Windows
    - All performance enhancements made between R24.5 and R26.4
    The download pages contain installers for:
    - Windows & Linux x86
    - Windows & Linux x86_64 (J2SE 5.0 only)
    - Windows & Linux Itanium
    - Solaris SPARC (J2SE 5.0 only)
    For the full list of supported configurations, see:
    http://edocs.bea.com/jrockit/jrdocs/suppPlat/index.html
    JRockit R26.4 contains a large set of performance enhancements and fixes for a number of issues reported in this forum and elsewhere. The performance work includes improvements to the JIT compiler (in particular on x86_64 and SPARC) and support for compressed references for the 64-bit x86_64 and Itanium JVMs. When enabled, this feature can give a ~10% performance boost!
    For details on enhancements, new features and fixed issues, see the release notes at:
    http://edocs.bea.com/jrockit/releases/5026x/relnotes/relnotes.html
    I will cover how and when to use some of the new performance enhanced features in my blog over the coming weeks:

  • ANNOUNCE: JRockit R27.1 and JRockit Mission Control 2.0 released!

    New versions of JRockit and JRockit Mission Control are now available!
    The following new products have been released:
    - JRockit 1.4.2 R27.1
    - JRockit 5.0 R27.1
    - JRockit 6 R27.1 TECHNOLOGY PREVIEW
    - JRockit Mission Control 2.0
    JROCKIT R27.1
    =============
    The JRockit release is a major update from the previous version (R26.4) and includes a large set of enhancements including:
    - A completely new version of JRockit Mission Control (see separate section below)
    - Improved Monitoring and Diagnostics features
    - Improved Supportability features
    - Connect-on-Demand capability for JVMTI and JMX (JRockit 5.0 and 6)
    - A new "Diagnostics Guide" with troubleshooting and performance tuning tips
    - Full support for IPv6 on all platforms
    - Expanded support for Solaris/SPARC
    - Enhanced performance
    The 1.4.2 and 5.0 versions of JRockit R27.1 are based on Sun 1.4.2_12 and 1.5.0_08 respectively, and contain all enhancements and fixes made to the Java class libraries from those Sun releases.
    JRockit 6 R27.1 is a tech preview based on 1.6.0-rc-b97 from Sun. The public GA of JRockit 6 is expected to be in the first half of 2007, and will bring a larger set of performance enhancements. For feedback on this release, please use our user forums at forums.bea.com/bea/forum.jspa?forumID=2009.
    The connect-on-demand capabilities in JRockit 5.0 and 6 are similar to those provided in Sun Java SE 6 and enable developers to connect to locally running JRockit processes without being forced to start JRockit with specific command line options. For JMX there is also an autodiscovery mechanism for remote connections which is very useful in development environments.
    For Solaris/SPARC we have added a JRockit 1.4.2 version, which in internal measurements has shown to be very competetive to Sun's 1.4.2 implementation on Solaris/SPARC. Definitely worth checking out! (Note: WLS 8.1 does not officially support running on this JRockit version.)
    On the performance side, there are enhancements for WLS applications (10-15%), memory-intensive applications (10-15%) and improved out-of-the-box performance (up to 25%), all based on internal measurements.

    JROCKIT MISSION CONTROL 2.0
    ===========================
    Together with JRockit R27.1 we are releasing a completely new version of JRockit Mission Control. The separate tools in JMC 1.0 have been integrated into one single GUI based on Eclipse RCP, which means that any user of the Eclipse IDE should feel at home. All tools features from Mission Control 1.0 are of course still available, and we continue our drive towards exposing all data about your Java application that JRockit has access to. You will also find a large set of usability improvements, including:
    - Drag-and-drop support
    - Configurable views
    - Online and (for the Runtime Analyzer) context-sensitive help
    - Connect-on-demand to local JVMs and autodiscover remote JVMs
    One particular area of interest is GC profiling, where much more detailed metrics are available, which can help drill down into the causes for long GC pause times and spikes.
    Release notes:

    There is no separate download for JRockit Mission Control, instead it is included in the JRockit R27.1 JDK downloads for Windows and Linux/x86. To start using the tools, install JRockit and select JRockit Mission Control from the Windows Start menu, or launch the $JROCKIT_HOME/bin/jrmc executable.
    Documentation is bundled with the installation and available from the Help menu.

    Hi,
    I have tried and installed the version R27.1.0-109-73164-1.5.0_08-20061129-1415-linux-x86_64 on our 16GB RAM
    with 4 dual-core Opteron processor.
    JAVA_OPTS="-server -Xms800M -Xmx4000M -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Xpausetarget=2500ms -Xverboselog:/var/log/javavm.log -Xverbose:gc,memory -Xverbosetimestamp -Xgcpause -Xgcreport -Xstrictfp -XXexitOnOutOfMemory -XXdumpFullState -XXstaticCompaction -XXcompactRatio:10 "
    After 5 secs of jvm startup I receive the follwing trace (without any DUMP-file):
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: class allocation JVM@check_alloc (src/jvm/model/classload/classalloc.c:1
    22). 42216 bytes requested. Java heapsize=838860800, paged memory=0/0.
    Probable cause: Too large java heap setting.
    Try to reduce the Java heap size using -Xmx:<size> (e.g. "-Xmx128m")

    JRockit aborted: Out of memory (68)
    Failed to acquire native memory. Try reducing Java heap size using -Xmx:<size> (i.e "-Xmx16m")
    If I change the -Xmx parameter from -Xmx4000M to -Xmx3000M
    than it didn't work, but
    if I change the -Xmx parameter from -Xmx4000M to -Xmx2900M
    than it works.
    (The hint to change -Xmx to -Xmx16m is great on a 16GB RAM machine,.. :-) )
    Any ideas?
    How can I use 4GB java-heap ?

  • ANNOUNCE: JRockit downloads available on Oracle Technology Network

    JRockit downloads are now available to the community again:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jrockit/index.html
    We will soon post a FAQ on this page explaining some of the changes in JRockit's status, but a couple of the most obvious ones:
    1) The JRockit JVM will only be available as part of Oracle products, not as a standalone download.
    2) JRockit Mission Control is now completely free for development & evaluation. License files are no longer used to enable functionality.
    More information & goodes will follow.

  • [ANNOUNCE] Sun's implementation of  252 (JSF 1.2) is available

    Please see the following announcement:
    https://javaserverfaces.dev.java.net/servlets/NewsItemView?newsItemID=3798
    In addition to the standalone release, the GlassFish project [1](An EE5 compatible application server) also includes this release as well
    [1] https://glassfish.dev.java.net

    You should in no way extract the TLD files from the JAR and/or put the loose TLD files in the classpath, nor define them in the web.xml.
    Just placing the JAR files in the classpath is sufficient. Remove all clutter of loose TLD files and its definitions in your web.xml.

  • Announcement : New SPS Patch Release (v 6.0.3) Now Available

    A newer release of Service Provisioning System (version 6.0.3) is now available for download on sunsolve
    The Release Notes for this release are available here and is a good place to start.
    {color:#0000ff}*You are strongly encouraged to go through the Release Notes AND the README instructions of all the patches thoroughly before starting your patch installations.*{color}
    The following are the key changes that were incorporated in this release.
    1) A fix in the SPS transport layer code was implemented to provide performance optimization of deployment jobs over a raw, SSH or SSL connection. Specifically, customers using an SSL connection between MS and the RA/LD nodes can observe noticeable performance improvements while deploying large payloads.
    2) A fix was also added to correct the default database encoding for customers who want to use extended ASCII character sets. This would not only facilitate clean database migration between 5.2 to 6.0 of any UTF-8 characters, but also ensure data integrity on fresh 6.0 installation. It's strongly recommended that customers take necessary steps to apply this fix on their SPS 6.0 installations.
    3) Certain GUI related      bugs were fixed and some missing functionality was added back.
    4) It is to be noted that this is a cumulative patch on top of the earlier patch release version 6.0.2. Hence all the bug fixes that were delivered with the 6.0.2 patch are also accumulated into the 6.0.3 patch
    5) Response time of GUI login validation has been improved.

    another option would be to make either the n1sps export not writing explicit end tags
    <element />
    instead of
    <element></element>
    or
    making the import / schema a bit less sensitive about whitespace within elements. The current bug, that you cannot export the xml, reformat in netBeans and then re-import is extremely annoying.

  • [ANNOUNCE] Beta Release availbe for download

    I'm very happy to announce that the JavaServer Faces 1.0 Beta Release is available for download at <http://java.sun.com/j2ee/javaserverfaces/download.html>.
    Please share your feedback here!
    Thanks,

    JSF Staff

    I wonder whether the companies about to publish books
    on JSF were aware about
    these changes, and whether they will be postponing the
    release of their books in order
    to reflect the changes to the Specification, in case
    their work does not reflect the latest specs.
    Some of the authors are on the EG, so they will have known about the
    changes. Others are not, so they will have been as much in the dark as
    you have been until the Beta was released. What was always clear, though,
    is that there would be lots of major and minor changes and I'm sure that
    we'll be seeing more of the same (but hopefully not so major) before FCS.
    Right now the just recently published book from
    McGraw-Hill is outdated due to these changes?That could always have been foreseen. There was no secret about the fact
    that EA4 was nowhere near the final word.
    Wiley and Apress are about to release their books. I
    would like to know if the code examples
    will reflect the changes in the latest specs.
    Book publication dates that you see on Amazon and elsewhere are often based on their authors' best
    guesses at the time that they submit a proposal and are sometimes updated as the project
    progresses. In the case of JSF, I think you'll find that most of the book dates that you see now are
    probably quite fictional (no pun intended). As the author of the APress! book, I can assure you that
    its examples will be up to the latest spec and, in fact, to the FCS spec, whenever that happens and
    I would expect that to be true of all the books that are not yet published.

  • Fatal internal error in JRockit

    Hi,
    I have been using & testing JRockit 7.0(1.4.0) and its been working fine so far.
    I am running it on Win2K platform.
    But rarely (say once in 20 times) when I run my application using JRockit jvm,
    I get the error below.
    ===================================================================
    Fatal internal error in JRockit. Thread 480 died abruptly
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    java.lang.NullPointerException:
    -------end of stacktrace ===================================================================
    Has anyone seen this before? Any idea why its happening?

    Hi David,
    Thanks for your response.
    No, I am not using any native code in my application. But in my
    application boot-up, I am spawning lot of threads (around 25).
    I am not sure if using -Xthinthreads would help (I am not using
    it)...but anyways I feel even if -Xnativethreads(default) is
    used this error should not occur.
    I guessed that this could be related to memory issue and then I tried to reproduce
    this issue with a simple program where I was spawning 5 threads, and in a while
    loop just sleeping.
    The sample program is as below.
    import java.io.*;
    public class Memtest {
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception{
    int count = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
    for (int i=0; i<count; i++) {
    InnerThread t = new InnerThread();
    t.start();
    static class InnerThread extends Thread {
    public void run() {
    System.out.println("Thread started....");
    try {
    while(true) {
    Thread.currentThread().sleep(2000);
    }catch(Exception e){
    I kept on running this program with different min/max memory
    values. I was running lot of other processes on my system and my
    system was very low on memory(even virtual).
    I saw the below error when I ran my sample program (after trying
    it for nearly 2 hrs). Here if you notice, it was not able to
    start even a single thread (As the thread started message din't
    appear)
    D:\Thiru\javatest\jrockit>C:\JRockit\7.0\1.4.0\bin\java -Xms205m -Xmx205m Memtest
    5
    ===========================================================

    [JRockit]Out-of-memory condition? : waiting for an available

    Fatal internal error in JRockit. Thread 380 died abruptly
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    java.lang.NullPointerException:
    -------end of stacktrace
    ===================================================================
    And then another time, I saw this other error (attached file jvm-
    crash-04-dec) while running the same program, but this time my
    system had enough free memory. So, I am not sure if this is
    anything related to memory also but definitely feel is a bug in
    JRockit.
    Hope this information helps.

    I can't say as we have seen this one before. Perhaps if we had more
    information we could work on finding the cause and produce a fix and/or
    workaround for you.
    Do you have any idea as to where in your code the problem is occuring
    Does your application use native (JNI) code ?
    If the problem seems completely random we could take a look at your
    application.

  • Skills marketplace - announce availability

    I'd like to make the following suggestion for Skills Marketplace:
    Provide an "Announce Availability" section, where oracle professionals - permanent and contract - announce availablity for their next job. Details would include availability date, primary skills and certifications, experience level, geographies, desired work type, and contact information. Prospective employers, hirers and agents can search on these attributes.

    Thank you for your feedback. We will forward your comments over to the OTN Team member in charge of SkillsMarketplace.
    Best Regards, OTN Team

  • Is Verizon going to offer the 32GB and/or 64GB models of the Galaxy S 4?

    I have been waiting for months for information about this phone.  It has come out incrementally in very small bites and, slowest and most grudgingly of all, from Verizon.  Now, finally, Verizon has offered pre-order of the 16GB model.  I don't want the 16GB model.  I want, at least, the 32GB.  If that had been offered, I'd have pre-ordered today.  Now, I don't know what to do.
    The "sales associate" I spoke with said she had no information concerning the 32GB model other than it is not offered now.  Will it ever be offered?  She has no information about that.
    This is to be my first smartphone.  So, it is my first experience with the whole smartphone buying experience.  I am totally disgusted with the entire experience.  I'm tired of Googling every day for any scrap of information.  I'm tired of the stupid game the provider companies play with their customers.  Do they think they gin up interest and therefore increase sales by withholding information and leaving everyone interested to speculate amongst themselves about simple questions like which carriers are going to offer a phone, when each carrier might offer it, and when and if the different available models will be offered?
    I am not among the demographic groups that find it important to be the first to own a new device, I have only been anxious because I have finally decided it's past time to join the smartphone revolution and this seems like the best one to get.  However, you can only keep someone on the edge of anticipation so long before that anticipation deflates and I guess that's what has happened to me.  Today I reached the "screw it" point.  I have a perfectly good old LG that has served me well as a basic phone and I have an iPod Touch that does everything else I need, for now, with unlimited free data, so what's my hurry anyway?
    Plus, in the course of searching for information on these forums, today, I discovered that there appears to be a long-term problem with Verizon and Samsung phones in the basic reception department.  While I love the idea of a pocket computer, I still primarily care about having a functional phone.
    I realize that nowadays, with these super giant companies, individual customers are invisible and 100% powerless.  Verizon doesn't care what even large blocks of customers think.  Oh, the arrogance...
    Thanks for nothing Verizon.  Keep your **** secrets.  I'm moving on to other interests.
    (Apologies to forum members--I know Verizon doesn't read here or care, but I can't get through to them and I had to vent somewhere.  Also, if someone could answer my question, I'd be really grateful.  Unfortunately I doubt that anyone can.)

    As I understand it, the 64GB S4 is exclusive to AT&T - at least, for now. Sprint and T-Mobile don't have that either.
    Sprint's pre-ordering for the S4 is closed until tomorrow. ("Sorry, we're out of stock. PRE-ORDER CLOSED - CHECK BACK ON 4/27") I don't know if that means they haven't started yet or ran out of the first pre-order stock. Sprint is only offering the 16GB model on the web site. On their web store, AT&T is only offering the 16GB model. They've already announced the 32 and 64GB models, but they aren't available via pre-order. T-Mobile isn't giving out any details about their S4 yet. They are just taking names.
    This may just be a manufacturing choice. It may be that Samsung's S3 sales were overwhelmingly skewed to the low-end model, so they are making mostly the same on the first runs of the S4. As the production of the 32GB model ramps up, we may see it offered as well. I also wouldn't be surprised if the higher capacity models are only available in stores in a ploy to get customers in front of a representative so they can be upsold/crosssold accessories, insurance, etc. It makes sense in that if you are willing to pay $50 more to get a part that costs $2 more to manufacture, you probably have money for other things.
    As far as the expansion slot, I'm somewhat afraid of it. I originally heard this on a podcast and have been able to partially confirm it. The NAND (aka flash) memory used in devices like this is binned according to how many write cycles it can perform before failing. (Reading doesn't wear it out.) The highest quality is being used in solid state disk drives (SSD drives) since a lot of writing is expected. Within those, NAND is binned for enterprise, pro and consumer models. The next quality bin is used for devices like phones, cameras (internal memory), and tablets, where a lot of write cycles are expected, but not quite the level of those used for SSDs. For both of the previous uses, the memory is not user replaceable if it fails so reliability is important. After that is a bin used for USB drives. It fails often by comparison, but is simple to replace - buy a new one. At the very bottom, is the bin used for SD, mini-SD, micro-SD card, Compact Flash and the like. Basically, those can be expected to fail. They are also easy to replace - with new ones. The recommendation was to either use them as semi-permanent storage by writing to them very sparingly (e.g, once) or never put anything on them you don't have a copy of somewhere else.
