Hi Everybody,
Some of you may know me, but many probably not. I'm Jeffry
Houser, producer of The Flex Show (
http://www.theflexshow.com),
a flex related podcast. I also run a DotComIt (
http://www.dot-com-it.com ),
an Adobe Solutions Partner specializing in Flex Development.
DotComIt is working on a line of commercial Flex Components, and
we'd like to get some feedback from the developer community. In
order to do this, we will be conducting some focus groups over the
course of the next few months and want to welcome all Flex
developers to participate.
What is a focus group? A focus group is a group of potential
customers who are brought together to get their opinions,
perceptions, and ideas that will help to shape the design,
strategy, and direction of DotComIt's product development.
Why Participate in a DotComIt Flex Component Focus Group?
1. Get $50 for your participation (paid via PayPal or
iTunes).
2. An opportunity to provide your input, perspective, and
opinion(s) about Flex and the use of components within Flex.
3. Hear the opinions and perspectives of other developers

This sounds like bad table design. If you think of column B as a foreign key it looks like you have a many-to-many
modelled with only two tables. The normal way of handling this in relational DBs is to have a third table as a "relator" table.
So table 1 and table 2 would be related via a third table 3.
Alternatively it shouldn't be duplicated and you have bad data.
Anyway, if you provide the information requested by Roger we will be able to help more.

I need help I occasionally participate in focus groups and at I am required to have a webcam. If I purchase a iPad will I be able to continue to participate vs purchasing a laptop?

I am trying to decide rather I should get a laptop or iPad. I have a iPhone 5 and have used Apple products in the past. I wasn't sure if I went ahead with a iPad if I would still be able to use a webcam to communicate with people for future focus groups. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

See I wasn't sure if I could use Skype on the iPad. Thank you so much for your help. I found a great deal on a Dell laptop but love the portability of a iPad plus many other things.

Flex application -- Focus

I'm designing a Flex application, and for the most part, I
want to allow users to drive the application with simple
keystrokes.
Obviously I need to content with a couple of UI issues:
1) I don't want to interfere with text field input and the
likes.
2) After the user commits (i.e. closes or exits text fields
or other objects that claim focus of text input) I'll need to set
focus (responder?) to the flex application itself .
Is this easy to accomplish?

You can set focus within the flash player to components
within the flash player.
You can set focus within the browser window to the Flash
player (if you need to).
Easy? That depends on how you want your app to behave and how
you implement that behaviour. A "suck it and see" approach might be
best to ascertain that one - learn by doing and similar
clichés have merit here.
If you have a more specific question about implementation
detail, post back and the board should fix you up with an
answer.

Cross join in all power pivot relation

Hi,
I am working on Office 365 Excel 2013.
From last tuesday of this month (the 2015/02/19), all my new reports are false.
Even with two simple tables joined by the same character key, provide me the folowing wrong result :
instead of having 1 as a total on the "A" key, I have 10, and you can see that keys of table two are multiplied.
Is it a referenced bug ?

At the begining, I tried to join this two table on the % Transaction ID. As I had the wrong result I created the TRID Field built with a concatenation to make the key to become characters. Finally I built a fake key with simple Letter.
The result is a One to One relation as below wherre you can sumarize any information.

The solution, after the release, was to break the data model by removing the relation, one of the table and to start It again.

Problem: Flex and focus() from Javascript

Hello,
Here is my problem.
I have 2 html pages.
2nd - Flexwindow.html
opener.html contains a javascript which is similar to this:

window2.setBrowserFocus();
focuswin() function called by pressing a button.
Flexwindow.html contains a flex swf and a java script:
function setBrowserFocus(){
document.getElementById("MyflexObject").focus();
So basicaly when im starting Opener.Html it will automaticaly run my flexwindow.html in front of Opener.html (opener will be under the flex page) (and this working perfectly).
The problem that if i will bring opener.html in front by clicking on it, and then will click the button with focuswin(), it will bring back in front my flexwindow.html (thats what i actualy needed) but it WILL AUTOMATICALY REFRESH SWF to it initial state (and thats what i dont need).
How i can stop refreshing this swf caused by javas focus() function?

a) changed "name=" to "id=" in the applet tag
b) var theApplet = document.getElementById("html2xml");
var pagexml = theApplet.getXml(pagehtml);but I still get the same error.
Is my java code correct? Any ideas?

JAVA to Flex relation

Now, we usually use Remote Class Annotation when we convert
into the JAVA object from
Action Script 3 Class Object.
And we doubt when we convert that the declaration of the
[public] is always necessity or not,
about the scope of variable declaration in the class of JAVA
and the class of Action Script 3.
Please let us know, we should declare of the [public] or
not.

From ActionScript to Java, only public, non-static,
read-writable properties (that is, properties that have both a
public get and set accessor defined) and public, non-static, vars
are serialized.
From Java to ActionScript, only public, non-static,
non-transient, read-writable bean properties (that is, properties
that have both a public getter and setter methods defined) and
public, non-static, non-transient fields are serialized.
For custom serialization requirements, consider using
matching flash.utils.IExternalizable and java.io.Externalizable
implementations that are also registered with the appropriate
[RemoteClass(alias="...")] metadata.
There are a few other options on the server for customizing
serializaiton of strongly typed objects (via the
PropertyProxyRegistry), but this is a little out of scope for this

Renamed Domain - Clients Still "joined" to old domain, can't open Group Policy Management on Server

Performed a Domain Rename as per the following instructions:

specifically the Fix Group Policy Objects and Links.
But still I have the following issues:
At least for group policy clients believe they are on the old domain - despite even having renamed the computers with the new domain name.
When I perform a gpresult the output file shows as being connected to the old Domain - despite manually going into computer properties and renaming the computer with the new domain name...

I can select to remove the domain from the console but this does nothing - as said it already shows the new domain in the console.
Far as I am aware the clients should not even of needing renaming or changing the domain, but were having authentication issues before I did this. Not sure what I have done wrong here..?

Related Products, Grouping and Product Attributes?

My client http://www.meluka.co.nz/home has a new product range of Sofas. A new sub-catalog called Sofas, under the LIVINGroom catalog will be created with the six new products. By selecting a product in this sub-catalog, you are then taken to the Individual Product – Large window. This is where the layout will need to differ as each product has five different fabric options and within these fabric options there needs to be a choice of up to eight fabric colors. I’m already using Grouping & Related Products within the site. Ideally I’d like a dropdown of the different fabric types (as currently used for Grouping) and once this is chosen then the different colors shown (using Related Products) for that fabric type. The problem that I have is that Related Products need to appear in a Catalog (or Sub-Catalog) and I only want one of each of the products appearing on the Sub-Catalog page (i.e. not all the different colors.) It would seem that Product Attributes may be the answer? The large image view needs to show the chosen fabric and color. Promotion starts next week so mildly panicking…

A combination of mandatory attribute groups, non mandatory attribute groups and javascript to show hide them based on the needs you mentioned above would be what I would be doing in that case.

Unidirectional m:1 relation requires group-name?

I tried to add a unidirectional m:1 relation (not 1:m), and ejbc complained that

While packaging up the code, I found that the code generator I'm using is creating

A few SQL related protection group Questions - DPM 2012 R2

Hi - Here is my environment: DPM 2012 R2 backing up SQL 2012 DBs. Some of the DBs are simple recovery model, some are full recovery model in the same protection group.
1) Regarding the fact that DPM only looks to the recovery model when the DB is first added to the protection group, if I ever changed the recovery model in the future, would stepping through the "Modify Protection Group" wizard without changing
anything be the solution for DPM not changing its methodology on the backing up or not backing up the log files? Or would I have to remove the affected databases from the protection group and add them back in?
2) I have disk protection configured for 30 Days, sync every 15 minutes, and application recovery points once per day. Online protection is configured for 90 Days. Does this mean my disk consumption on the DPM side for full model databases will be the full
size of the databases, plus the amount of changes observed over 30 days? OR does it mean it will keep 30 full copies of the DB? I am fairly sure the former.
3) If I do decide to reduce the retention range on the disk side of this protection group to say 14 days, are there any specific issues with changing that after the PG has been working for some time?
4) My former backup solution had an option to run consistency checks after every SQL job. Is that still considered best practice? Would the "Run a daily consistency check" be a better choice than the "Only run if a replica becomes inconsistent"
option that I currently have in place? Would there be any ramifications to enabling this now after this PG has been in place for some time?

Changing the Recovery Model of a Database
To change the recovery model of a protected database to the simple recovery model
Stop protection of the database, selecting the retain replica option.
Change the recovery model on the SQL Server database.
Add the database to a protection group.

A2) Your disk consumption on the DPM will be for size of model databases plus the amount of changes observed over 30 days.

A4) Not really, but to gain back the potential extra space allocated for the original 30 day retention - you can try shrinking the recovery point volume once the retention range is reduced and the older recovery points are pruned. I would wait until
after midnight to be sure the old RP's are deleted, then try to shrink.

A4) A consistency check will only run if DPM detects the replica is inconsistent. Even if you have the option selected to run nightly, if the replica is already consistent a consistency check will be skipped.
