Annoying white line around artwork

There's a strage thin white line around a black artwork, it's easier to see it with red background.
It's hard to see it so i zoomed in.
Here's the Appearance panel with this object selected:
How do I get rid of it?
Illustrator CS5
Windows 7

Set your black artwork to either:
Overprint and view in Overprint Preview or Multiply (in Transparency).
That way you won't see the white lines.
On the other hand, although they won't show up in print, those white lines (when viewed in CMYK preview) can sometimes be a useful indicator that an overprint is required.

  • Help!!  White line around image with placed in Illustrator from Photoshop, possible CMYK issue?

I have a CMYK file, outlined product, that looks perfect in Photoshop.  When I place the image into Illustrator, it shows up with a thin white line around parts of the product (fyi - it shows up on a print as well). I have tried to place an RGB file and it does not have the white line around the product.    I assume it has something to do with it being CMYK, but I'm at a loss on how to fix this.  I'm desperate for any help.

Okay, please refer this image and change the option within Ai General preferences. Uncheck the option Anti-Aliased artwork.

  • After importing pictures they became grey with doted white line around

I have imported pictures (RAW CR2 format) from my camera hundreds of times and they all went well. But this time the only the import worked well (I saw the preview when each picture was imported). Then Iphoto asked if i would like to delete the pictures on the camera after import. I deleted them. But then when I should take a look at the pictures they were grey with doted white lines around all of them. When I chose a picture and check the properties I can see that the pictures use normal space. I tried to drag one picture to a directory in the finder but this didn´t work either. The export doesn't work either. When I scroll fast among the pictures I can see them for a short period but when I stop scrolling they will turn grey with doted white line around. Whats wrong? and how to solve?
    system: iPhoto11 and Lion.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • White line around image

    Hi everyone,
I keep getting a white line appear around images I save in
Photoshop and then insert into Dreamweaver. It happens when I also
save text with a transparent background. The text has a very faint
white line around it. Why is this?

Where are you seeing this, in PS? or DW design view or in a
    browser?
When you insert your pics in an HTML page with 0 border, do
    you still see
    the border?

  • DW8-Fine white line around images

DW8 - On some of my images there is a very fine white line
around the edge when the site is previewed in the browser. The site
has an almost-black background color (181714), and I use the same
color in making the image backgrounds (in Photoshop CS), for
example roll-over images. How do I get rid of this?

You wouldn't set this in the Property inspector, you'd set it
    in the CSS,
and the only time you need it would be when the image is
    within a link:
    a img { border:none; }
Also, you wouldn't expect this effect to produce a white
    border - it would
be a blue one (by default).
I'm guessing the fine white line is part of the image (it's
    easy to
undercrop when the canvas is white).

    specifying a zero.
If you have nothing there, you will get the default value for
    the all of the
table attributes, which is often (but not always) not zero.

  • White lines around texts with object effects applied

I am having a persistent problem with InDesign's output of PDFs when I have applied object effects to text boxes.
When I use an effect—such as emboss (shown in samples) or outer glow—on a text box, the PDF renders it with white lines around the text boxes (sometimes with more than one).
See the attached samples; the boxes are clearly visible with a 3rd party PDF viewer, such as Skim; less so with Acrobat Pro, but still there. It's there when I open the PDF in Photoshop, as well.
I've tried playing with transparency flattening settings, and with merging the layers into a single layer. No help.
The sample shown has an emboss effect applied, transparency flattening set to high resolution (ignoring style overrides), and a single merged layer.
    Any help?
    In Acrobat Pro:
    In Photoshop:
    In Skim:

    Thanks so much, Bob.
My printer requires that I use the PDF/X-1a:2001 standard for PDF export, which means that it must be Acrobat 4 or later compatibility.
Also: I don't see how to NOT flatten, when exporting PDF for print; the options for flattening are "low resolution," "medium resolution," or "high resolution"—but there is not an option to NOT flatten. Do you know a work-around for this?

  • White lines around figures

Captured ftg from DVD created from digi-beta from original 35mm film. Editing a 4 minute trailer but certain clips (30%) show short curved white lines around heads, figures, etc. Sort of like zebra but not? One clip has first frame with horizontal white lines top to bottom. Same clip shows up as green screen in QT file I made. Also a few freeze frames for a second or two. 70% of trailer is fine. Thought maybe the capture had wrong settings?

  • White lines around flash embed

I've created a gif animation and saved it as a flash doc. When I put it into a GoLive page, it has a one pixel white line around the top and one side (the side sometimes switches depending on the animation). This is not in my animation files and it prevents me from using a black background or butting another image on top of it.
Any thoughts on what's causing it and how to get rid of it?

  • Trying to export M2V, getting an annoying white line down side...

Hey guys, looking been looking for solutions to this but to no avail...
Trying to compress a prores 1920x1080 422 hq clip into an m2v for burning. Problem is whenever I touch the frame controls, I seem to get a freaking annoying white line down the right hand side of my vid.
If I turn the frame controls off, it works, but I want them on because the image quality is far superior with it one.
    Here's the settings I had:
Another really annoying thing is that I did an experiment, I opened the prores in QT player, exported for web/computer/h264 and brought that into compressor, rendered it out. No white line. But H264 looks like utter crud.
Any ideas?? This is so infuriating. Thanks so much

A line (usually a green line) down the right side of a video usually means a size mismatch that the codec can't deal with. What is the final size the video shows, m2v?
Set Details Level to zero and turn off Active Details. Details Level and Anti-alias are used when up-sizing a video.
You may need to do the re-sizing before going to m2v. Resize using ProRes (4444 is an over kill) and use that to make your m2v. And use better as Russ has pointed out. The best setting will yield about 10% in quality over better. You will not see that 10% gain in quality in the final video. Especially since your going to m2v for the final video. When you use frame control to convert a video to m2v. Frame control has be read during each (2) pass adding to the time to the encoding. Personaly, if I need to use frame control to make a DVD (or h.264), I make a intermediate video... PreRes, and use that to make my DVD or h.264 video.
Lastly, if this doesn't fix the white line you may need to crop off 1 or 2 pixel lines (right or left) from the video. You won't see this in the final video.
I have had to do this.
Food for thought... If your making DVDs from 1080 video footage or having to resize the video regularly for DVDs or h.264 encoding. You can use the 'NEW JOB WITH TARGET OUT PUT' option in *Compressor. This will make a ProRes intermediate video with the size changes (you need set the new size). After that has be encoded it will automatically convert that ProRes video to m2v.
You can either do this at night (sleep time) or do something else while this is being executed.
Old video showing how to use this option. It will also tell you why you wouldn't want to use frame control when making an h.264 (m2v) video:
    http://pixelcorps.cachefly.net/macbreak-154-540p-h264.mov
*If your using Compressor 3.5... the second encoding (MPEG-2 in the above example) you will need to set the size in the geometry widow. Compressor 3.5 leaves this blank (a bug), this was fixed in Compressor 4.

  • Thin white line around black .ai logo and drop shadow question

    Hello,
There's a very thin white line all around a black .ai logo I made when placed on a color background. It shows up in printing and acrobat (PDF % compatibility) too. Also, is there any way to get a transparent drop shadow (no white boxes) when saving as eps.
    Thanks
Running OS10.4.11 In Design CS3, intel mac.

Is the logo rasterized in Illustrator? It sounds like something was antialiased against a white background.
    >Also, is there any way to get a transparent drop shadow (no white boxes) when saving as eps
No. EPS does not support transparency. If an area is not fully transparent (because nothing is drawn there) then it is fully opaque. PDF and AI support transparency.

  • White lines around PNGs when exported to PDF

I am having the problem that imported images frequently have white bars around the outside of the image when the document is exported as a PDF. Looking at the two images currently affected I notice they are both PNG images. I fixed the image that was just rectangular in shape by just turning it into a JPEG as I did not require the use of transparency, but the second object is a different matter and I require the use of PNGs transparency. These lines are not present when in indesign normally.
The line is only noticable in one spot where a black rectangle meets the black background (only the top of the rectangle is visible against the black as one side is covered and the other side is out of the crop area) so I am not certain if this is the only spot it is occuring.
The line is not even a straight white line!
I have had this problem before with lines appearing around objects which should not be there, as well as objects not appearing as they do in inDesign, any advice for fixing this?

Ok guys I don't know what was wrong with my old TIFF image, but I swapped it out for a TIFF image which had a gradient fading from black to transparent as opposed to a straight black box and now the line is not there *shrug* it seems quite weird to me since I made sure the image was correct by cutting off the top segmant of the image where the trouble was.... but I dunno....
The exact same image in illustrator or photoshop showed up fine.. so I cannot understand what the problem was
EDIT: GAK!! its back on a new image I just put into the document same problem except it is on all sides of the black rectangle... *shakes fist* bah I will put another bloody gradient around the stupid thing....which by the way worked and the gradient was placed on the bottom layer so I dont see how it could be the image? I think this is proving that the problem is with acrobat (or saving from indesign) not the image...
NOTE: I would rather not post the files for various reasons

  • How do I get rid of an ugly white line around areas of type?

    Hello InDesign forum,
Attached is a screenshot of a pdf file I created of a brochure I designed.
Actually, it's just one panel of that brochure. In that panel there are unsightly white lines that appear around areas of type.
I have yet to find a way to get rid of them, and I'm not sure what causes them.
The brochure started out as an InDesign CS5 file and then I converted it to a .pdf file so it would be print-ready for PSPrint, Alpha Graphics, or a similar printing facility.
Any advice you can share about what is causing these lines, and how to get rid of them, would be very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks!

It is one of two things. Either the frames actually have a stroke applied to them, or they have some sort of transparency effect and you are flattening the transparency in the PDF and these are transparency flattening artifacts called "stitching." From the screen capture it looks as if it might even be both -- stroked frames onthe white type at the top, and stitching around the yellow type.
If it's a stroke, set the stroke color to [None]. To eliminate stitching export to Acrobat 5 or higher compatibilty to keep the transparency live. Stitching doesn't usually show up in press output, but it may in lower-resolution digital prints.

  • Thin white line around image

Using CS3 with Vista.  I have a postcard that has a background image on the bottom layer, another (overlapping) image in the next layer, and type on the top layer.  The image on the middle layer is showing very minor white edges (stitching (?) I guess) around parts of it.  It also printed with this same slight, white jagged edge.  This middle image has an effective resolution of 300 ppi.  I read in Knowledgebase about turning off anti-aliasing but when I do it still shows this white edge on screen and the type seems to marginally get slightly jagged.  It was so minor that the client was fine with it but I am curious as to what was causing it and if it's something I can remedy in the future.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Gordon

Gordon has sent me his original files, and there are a couple of issues.
The first is with the background image, a 400 x 400 pixel jpeg that's been stretched to fit the rectangular sahpe, and then made 50% opaque. The effective resolution is 97 x 60 ppi, which as a ghosted background is probably marginally usable, particularly if printed on digital equipment, but is hardly optimal. I'd personally do the opacity reduction in Photoshop and save a new flattened version as a .psd for use in a background because it reduces the complexity of the file, but there's no rule that says one must do things that way. I simply prefer to use transparency only when it is required to achieve the effect.
The larger issue is with the middle image, which is a transparent .gif of a glass with a margarita. This is 1238 x 1667 pixels and has an effective resolution of 349 ppi, more than adequate for print, but it looks to me as if it was up-sampled at some point from a web image (not unlikely since it's a .gif) as the image is made of obvious square blocks that look like the original index color pixels -- a classic example of why you can't simply take a small image and upsample for print. Around the stem of the glass are a large number of white pixels left behind when the image was removed from its original background, which are showing as the faint white lines he described. These pixels could be removed using a detect edges clipping path in ID, but doing so leaves a very jagged edge. A drawn path in Photoshop is much cleaner, but the pixels in the rest of the image are still readily apparent and the image probably isn't really worth the effort to repair if a better quality can be found to begin with.

  • White lines around black

I know that some similar things have been discussed.  The only reason that Im bringing this up is that some have said that a white jagged line around a black object will not appear in print, and to check it by making a pdf out of it.  I made a pdf and the white line still shows up.  If I take this to the printer tomorrow is the white line going to print if it shows in the pdf?  or do I have nothing to fear?
    Thanks for your help!

You can tell if it is only a preview artifact by zooming in incrementally and seeing if the white increases proportionally or of it stays abut the same thickness as you zoom in closer.
