Another strange compressor bug

I've got a 12 minute film that I'm compressing for DVD SP with Compressor using the 90-minute best quality settings.
I've got a title card at the beginning of the film that I comped in Shake ... It's totally static.
When playing back the compressed version, the graphic scales down (badly with jaggies) after about 2 seconds ... On its own, without any encouragement from me.
Has anyone seen anything like this?

Paul:
Did it finish loading the iView files? If so check the size at the bottom. If it's still incorrect and extremely large try rebuilding the library, launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed, follow the instructions to rebuild the library, while selecting only the database option. That may clear up the problem.
I didn't note the size when I was importing my iView collection but iPhoto does reports the correct size now.

  • Another iPhoto 6 bug

    Amusing but yet another iPhoto 6 bug (6.0.2). Boy, does this program need some work.
    I created a new library, set alias on so it loads from my iView MediaPro layout, and am busy importing. In the information tab on the bottom left, it tells me its busy importing 1595 photos with a total size of 15066192772 GB. I wish.

  • Another SQL Developer bug - End of file in comment

    I found another SQL Developer bug in version 3.0.0.4.
    If I try to compile some package from file (so I open file with package body in SQL Developer and assign it to some connection) with this kind of comment: /* comment */ behind end of package, I get this error
    I got Error(1250,28): PLS-00111: end-of-file in commentFunny is, that when the package is compiled directly from the database - it works.
    When I try to compile the package from file with this kind of comment --comment behind the end of package, it also works...

    Hi, I think I finally got it. This looks like an ugly fat bug :)
    First, we are not using the .sql extensions. For package specification - we use .pks. For package body - we use .pkb.
    Create this script:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE TEST_xxx AS
    PROCEDURE TEST_PROCEDURE;
    END TEST_xxx; /*0123456789*/Now save this as e.g. "TEST.pks" file. Open this file in SQL Developer and compile it. You will get the "Error(3,27): PLS-00111: end-of-file in comment".
    Now look at the result in the database -> Open the package specification from the database and you see this:
    create or replace
    PACKAGE TEST_xxx AS
    PROCEDURE TEST_PROCEDURE;
    END TEST_xxx; /*0123456789*The last slash is missing...
    Now go back to the file with the package specification and delete one letter from the comment. Compile it again... it works now.
    It looks like the length of this kind of comment is limited to 9 characters.
    The limitation is there only when:
    1) Compiling from file with different extension than .sql !!! If you rename the file to "TEST.sql", SQL Developer opens it as a script file and runs it as a script, so there is no problem with it.
    2) It has to be this kind of comment: /* */. One line comments are not limited.

  • FB3 Beta 3 - another organize imports bug

    I'm getting lucky :-) Here is another organize imports bug in
    FB3 Beta3...
    If you have some simple hierarchy where base class defines
    public (or protected) method, and sub class tries to override this
    method you will encounter this bug. Let say that base class looks
    like this:
    package test {
    import flash.display.Shape;
    public class BaseClass extends Shape {
    public function BaseClass() {
    public function myMethod():void {
    trace("In BaseClass.myMethod()");
    and that sub class looks like this
    package test {
    public class SubClass extends BaseClass {
    public function SubClass() {
    super();
    Now, if you try to override myMethod() from BaseClass and
    start typing in subclass something like
    override public function m
    and use Ctrl+Space, FB will insert appropriate method but it
    will also insert errorneous import statement like this:
    import test.BaseClass.myMethod;
    So you will end up with sub class which looks like following:
    package test {
    import test.BaseClass.myMethod;
    public class SubClass extends BaseClass {
    public function SubClass() {
    super();
    override public function myMethod():void {
    Wrong import is correctly marked as error but issuing
    "organize import" does not remove it so it must be removed
    manually.
    Regards,
    Damir Murat
    PS: Sorry for bad code formatting but there is no option for
    inserting in-line code and attach code is a little bit
    awkward.

    Damir Murat,
    Did you already file a bug for this? If not, would you mind
    adding it to the public bug base so we can track the issue.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Strange Display Bug - Photoshop CS5 64bit

    I have an issue where a portion of my screen extending from the top left corner displays images in Photoshop just a little differently than the rest of the screen. You can see how it looks in these screenshots (I was a little surprised the screenshots captured the bug). These are screens of a photoshop document filled with one color, not the two shades it appears to be.
    http://i.imgur.com/RzWei.png
    http://imgur.com/NadQA
    This bug doesn't appear except in Photoshop. As you can tell it's always the same part of the screen. Except somehow Photoshop briefly 'remembers' where the image bug is when I drag it around with the hand too. Eventually it goes back to the original spot or it will reset to there when I zoom or do something to the image. You can see in the screens how that works.
    I have tried clearing out the settings files.
    Reinstalling Photoshop.
    Updated display drivers.
    I connected to the monitor to another computer and ran Photoshop from that one (no bug).
    I attached another monitor to this computer - no bug with that monitor. Strangely, it seemed to take a few minutes to reappear after I reattached my other monitor again. I thought it had gone away at first.
    I've done some searching around the web and the forums but can't seem to find the right answers. It would be great is someone had some ideas on what's going on. This problem is driving me batty. Thanks much.

    Just a bunch of random thoughts...
    Hm, seems to stop exactly halfway across, left to right, and in a 5:4 ratio.
    Looks like a pretty big display...  What's the pixel resolution of your monitor?  Does it use a dual-link DVI connection?
    Do you have any desktop management software active that does things like expand the desktop or provide multiple / virtual desktops?  I'm trying to guess at whether something might be causing the system metrics to be reported wrongly.
    Just on a hunch, try this:  Choose Edit - Preferences - Performance, click the [Advanced Settings...] button, and change the OpenGL Mode to Basic.
    If no change, does the problem go away if you uncheck [ ] Use OpenGL Drawing entirely?

  • Another Strange Process mDNSResponderHEL

    Here's a tough one - I noticed this process running only once for about a half hour last week - never seen it before and never seen it again since. It was a process I noticed in the Activity Monitor called:
    mDNSResponderHEL
    I've hunted high and low for information on this. Does anyone know what it is? My son got on my iMac (again) and I'm noticing all sorts of strange things after he downloaded some software. As I said in another post, it's time to password protect my iMac - I've just done that now. No one else knows the password now so I won't have to worry about this kind of thing anymore - obviously, I have the newest and fastest iMac in the family and get "bugged" all the time to use it
    I'd really like to know what this process is - I see mDNSResponder running all the time but never before have I seen mDNSResponderHEL.
    Thanks,
    Gerard

    I may have written this down wrong - sorry about that. On one sticky note, I wrote down:
    mDNSResponderHEL
    And on another, I wrote down:
    mDNSResponderECH
    I don't know which one it was now! At any rate, is anyone familiar with either of these?
    Thanks and sorry for the mix-up, just too much on the go these days...

  • Strange boot bug; open firmware not working

    Hi!
    I have a powerbook Alu 15", 1.5Ghz. It runs OS X 10.4.2 with the latest security update. My problem started last Saturday.
    The problem is that my pb will not restart nor boot on its own. The computer makes its usual chime, the hard-disk starts to spin for a few second, and then stops suddenly before anything is displayed on the screen (the display does not even light-up). If I press the option key after or before the chime, and keep it pressed, or the shift key, or the c key, or the t key, or the command-option-p-r key combination, or even the command-option-o-f key combination, the behavior is exactly the same: the disk starts to spin for a few second after the chime, and suddenly halts. The computer appears to shutdown on its own before the boot can even start.
    Here is the strange part: the computer boots normally if I press the command key (this key on its own is not suppose to do anything). It also works if I press the command-s or command-v key combination. No other key combination seem to work.
    Except for this strange boot behavior, the computer works flawlessly. I did not have any kernel panic for at least a year, the computer did not crash recently, everything works fine except for one small detail on which I will come back at the end.
    I've tried to fix the problem by the following actions:
    1) Clean install of Tiger with a new partitioning of the disk; I even zeroed the entire disk. This did not change anything so the problem is probably not OS related.
    2) Reset of the PMU with the four finger salute: shift-control-option-power combination. No effect except that I lost the date/time information. Hence the reset worked.
    3) Tried to reset the PRAM, but the command-option-p-r key combination does not seem to work.
    4) Tried to load the open firmware with command-option-o-f, but this does not work either.
    5) Memory seems ok. I have 1x256M of Apple RAM + 1x1G of RAM bought from OWC. I've had the OWC RAM for about a year without any problem. Anyway, I removed the 1G module and tried to boot on the 256M Apple module alone. Exact same behavior. Then I removed the Apple module and put back the 1G module. Exact same boot behavior. So the problem is not with my RAM, unless both modules have simultaneously developed a malfunction.
    6) Tried to run the Apple hardware tests. However, for my machine, these tests come on the install DVD, in a special hidden volume. To boot on this special volume, one needs to boot with the option key depressed, and to select the boot volume from the open firmware interface. But this does not work on my machine, the computer seems to shut down before this interface can be activated!
    So this problem is very strange. I can live with having to press the command key for booting my machine, but I would sure like to know what is going on here. Is the problem hardware related? Perhaps, but as I said, the machine works flawlessly except for the strange boot behavior.
    Is the problem related to firmware? I think that this is the most probable option. What do you think? Maybe, the firmware got slightly corrupted? Maybe a bit got flipped in the flash memory? Is this possible? I guess so. But, what can I do? Should I contact my friendly local repairman?! I have to admit that this option scares me a little bit for such a strange problem. I would need an Apple engineer with boot related experience/expertise!
    Now, here is a little bit of further information. I don't know if its related, but it is also very strange. I work with a dual screen configuration. Usually, I connect my screen and then I wake up the computer. Last week, I noticed that if I connect my second screen live, the system detects it automatically. I guess this is new to Tiger? Anyway, the strange behavior is that the computer then asks me if I want to sleep, restart or shutdown my pb, as if I had pressed the power button. But I did not press this button when I connected the dvi connector >:-o
    Many thank

    Hi Scott!
    Almost every time the PowerBook woke after sleep, I got the 'Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now...' message.
    I get this message upon wake only rarely, but every time I plug or unplug a display live.
    The strange behaviour was tolerable, so I've lived with it for several months. But then when checking out the PowerBook discussions, I read about the failing lower RAM slot problems, and just out of interest, checked out my System Profiler....
    Ok, so the good news is that my pb may continue to work for several months
    My lower RAM slot appears to be ok for now.
    Interestingly, I'm sure that the start-up problems began when I started using my PowerBook with a 23" Apple Cinema Display (a pink hued one, but that's another on-going saga) - and you too have mentioned that you use an external display, so I wonder if that's part of the cause of our start-up problems.
    Yes, I've noticed the 'Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now...' message just a few days before noticing the strange boot problem (not sure if the machine booted in between). I use ViewSonic displays (one at home and one at the office), and several different projectors in different class rooms. From what I read, it is plausible that there is a link between this problem and the dvi port. Could it be that the boot sequence of mb is affected by a hardware problem on the dvi port? But not when a press the command key?!
    Anyway, my machine is no longer under warranty, so I intend to live with the problem for as long as possible...
    But I've been doing more regular backups since then.
    Best wishes to you and your (almost) new machine!
    Marc.

  • Strange Indesign Bug -- I lost a weeks worth of files

    Not sure what caused this.  There's certainly nothing that can be done
    about it.  I neglected to repair my backup volume which failed a couple weeks ago and proceeded with an InDesign
    large project and lost all my work.
    When working on this doc, every several days I would edit the file name, adding something to the end of the file to let me know what work it contained.  I began about Nov 6 and made my last edits on Nov 16, yesterday evening before going home.  During the course of the day I noticed something very strange -- the file name had some jibberish in it enclosed in parens.  I simply removed them and resaved.
    When I came in this morning, there were NO files from Nov 7 on -- all of the edits I'd made to some 10 incrementally changing files were now gone.
    I've since used a disk recoverey tool to no avail.
    Obviously, I'm at fault for not using proper backup procedure -- but there's a pretty nasty bug here which bit me that is pretty frustrating.  I'm on Snow Leopard.  File was about 150 pages, quite a bit of imagery.
    don

    Sorry to go silent, but I was busy trying to salvage things.
    First -- thanks for all the helpful replies, and also thanks for the wake-up calls as to my sloppy procedures.  I've taken them to heart and just finished backup up my system. I had a functioning backup system that failed a few weeks ago and I let my workload keep me from attending to it.
    As I stated earlier, I was using a backup method where in the same directory I was altering names every chapter.  The day the system ate my collection of files I had encountered some sort of problem in the file names.  I corrected the problem and went on.
    When I first realized the data was lost I immediately checked my "dropbox" (an online program that lets me move with files between computers.  I had taken the work home for the weekend, but deleted it monday morning from the dropbox because I hadn't actually done any work over the weekend.  I worked all day monday and it was on tuesday thart my files were gone.
    When I came in to work monday morning I noticed something interesting in my task bar at the top of the OS X screen.  I saw a program that when highlighted said "backup successful".  It seems I had installed the free version of Mozy a few months back and since it was only 2 gig of storage I pointed it as a test to my "Dropbox" and forgot about it.
    Sure enough, it had dutifully copied friday evenings work out of the drop box to the Mozy servers.
    So, despite all of the suggestions failing (booting without extensions, data salvage programs and so forth) I have no a file that represents only one days worth of data loss.  And the edits I did monday were fairly minimal.  Needless to say I've made multiple copies of it and I am now back on schedule to deliver my project ontime.
    Thanks again for all the advice.
    Don

    If you're going to use powerpill you should probably subscribe to the following thread:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=56583
    Your answer is on the very last page, but in summary the problem is that the --retry-wait option is no longer supported in aria2 which you can see in the code you pasted.
    /usr/bin/aria2c: unrecognized option '--retry-wait=2'
    Xyne has already updated the code so you can either get the code from his site or wait for the mirrors to sync.

  • Creating Albums in A2: Strange behavior, bug or operator error

    I've just bought A2 and imported my 13,000 photos into it. They are imported as "referenced masters". On disk, my photos are arranged in folders by year, month and day that the pictures were taken:
    Photos/
    ....2008/
    ....2007/
    ........01/
    ........05/
    ........10/
    ............IMG1.NEF
    ............IMG2.NEF
    ............IMG3.NEF
    The only way to import directories of photos into A2 is "Import folders as projects" (It seems like you should be able to just import all the photos in a directory tree, but apparently you can't. Why not?)
    Anyway, so now I have a bunch of projects, one for each year. Then folders for each month and albums for each day. This is only mildly useful since I could create smart albums, but... (Is there a way to get rid of the projects without losing the photos? Can I delete them all and leave the photos in my library?)
    Anyway, the next thing I wanted to do was to create some folders of albums of my photos. I'm a hobbiest and I take most of my photos when I travel. I wanted to create an album for each "trip" I went on. So, for example, I went to Southeast Asia in October of 2004.
    I created a (root level) folder called "Trips". Then I created an album called "Southeast Asia 2004". I selected the folder named "10" (i.e. October) in project "2004" and selected all the photos. (I apparently hadn't taken any other pictures in October 2004 besides what I had done on my trip). I dragged the selection to my new album and saw a "+" icon (as if to say "add these photos to this album"). When I released the mouse button, it did nothing. I couldn't add the photos to my album.
    After screwing around for a while, I found that I could not add photos to an album unless I selected them from a higher level in the project tree. So if I created my album as a child of 2004, I couldn't add photos selected from 2004/10. But I could add them if I selected them from within 2004. Similarly, I couldn't add photos to my album at Trips/SoutheastAsia unless I selected them from "All Photos" under "Library."
    Maybe I'm not understanding what folders and projects are /supposed/ to be. But this doesn't make sense to me. Is this intentional? Is it a bug? Can someone explain the reasoning behind this -- or tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks!

    Aarrgghh. I know part of the problem is that I don't quite grok Aperture's model yet. But, still, something is not right.
    I had created a new project called "Trips". In that project I created an album. If I selected photos from the "All Photos" smart album, I could put them in that album in that other project. But the photos still weren't in that other project. Just the album. This seems wrong, but I'm not sure.
    So, instead of creating a project called Trips, I created a top-level folder. In that, I created an album for my one trip. Once again, I could select photos from another project. When I dragged them to the new album, I got a green "+". But when I dropped them, nothing happened. But, if I drag them from "All Photos" it works.
    That can't be right. If I can put photos from any project into an album, I should be able to do it from anywhere. If I can't, I shouldn't be able to do it from "All Photos." If anyone knows which is right, let me know. Also, if anyone knows how to file a bug, let me know -- I will file this one with a good use case description.
    Thanks,

  • Another XAV-72BT BUG

    I've checked the format of the JPG files that don't display when playing the MP3 files in the same folder. None of them use the progressive JPG format. And these same JPG files do display if I select 'Images' instead of 'Audio' from the XAV72bt user interface. This appears to be a software bug to me. I'd very much appreciate it the appropriate support team would take a look at this.
    Thanks

    I've discovered another design problem withthis unit. I recently ripped a video from a music DVD to an MPEG4 file. The format of the file is well within the limits given in the user's manual but this head unit will not play it I read the disclaimer in the user's guide indicating that there is no guarentee that a file can be played even if it is within the limits given.
    The real problem is with the USB menu. The USB drive contains many audio files and this one video. From the menu I selected video and the unit quickly responded with "no playable media found". The problem is that there is no immediate recovery for using this USB. There is no way to go back and select for audio files. No user menu options appear. If I unplug the USB and plug it back in, nothing is changed. The unit recognizes that a USB device has been reconnected but it remains in video mode. I can probably take the USB back to my computer and delete the video file but that seems to be a poor solution. This is yet another example of how this unit seems to have gotten to the market before it was ready. See my other posts in this forum.

  • Another preview related bug???

    Recently I reported an issue (bug) with preview and
    non-auto-update variable. See
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=65&catid=449&threadid =1364202&enterthread=y
    I have another issue with preview:
    - I update text within the body of a topic (I DO NOT toch
    header/footer that are set in template)
    - Do a preview
    - Close/save topic
    - RH comes up with dialog saying:
    "This topic was created from a template and the header of
    footer has been modified.
    What would you like to do:
    - Apply this modification to all topics created from the
    template
    - Apply this modification to this topic only"
    Again, I never touched header/footer.
    Can anyone using 7.0.2 confirm this behavior?
    Herman

    > See if this helps. Suggests turning off auto update.
    This doesn't help because a preview updates the date
    variable, even when auto update is set to off. When the topic is
    not edited, RH doesn't prompt to save the topic and consequently
    the updated date isn't saved . With edits, save dialog comes up and
    additionally header/footer dialog because date in footer has
    changed.
    See also my earlier post here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=65&catid=449&threadid =1364202&enterthread=y
    Secondly, I really need it on auto because I'm running
    everything through batch files
    I think that we need an option like Colum McAndrew described
    in the thread you're referring to. An option not to update a
    template variable when applied to a topic, or when previewing a
    topic.

  • Another -C check bug

    Here is an interesting run-time check bug. I have an internal subroutine where an array index is changed in another internal subroutine by host association. The run-time check misses the fact that the index has been updated. Here is an example. It seems to relate to the use of a derived-type as well.
    program test
    implicit none
    type my_type
    integer, allocatable :: type(:)
    integer :: size=0
    end type my_type
    type(my_type) :: obj
    allocate(obj%type(10))
    call sub1()
    contains
    subroutine sub1()
    call incr()
    write(*,*)'obj%size=',obj%size
    obj%type(obj%size)=1
    end subroutine sub1
    subroutine incr()
    obj%size=obj%size+1
    end subroutine incr
    end program test
    Here is my result:
    obj%size= 1
    ****** FORTRAN RUN-TIME SYSTEM ******
    Subscript out of range. Location: line 14 column 12 of 'test2.f90'
    Subscript number 1 has value 0 in array 'TYPE'
    Abort

    OK, I figured out the problem. I am getting the __SUNPRO defines, but used them in a way that fpp did not substitute them. The problem I have not is that -xpp=cpp does not work because the flag -Y<path> is given, which is not a standard cpp flag, and I just get an error message.
    I am guessing that Sun cpp accepts a -Y flag, and sun Fortran assumes that it is standard. If so, maybe a good solution would be just to distribute Sun's cpp along with fpp. Another problem is that cpp is called with a specific path, so there is apparently no way to override it. So, it looks to me like this is a bug. But, it seems unlikely that nobody would have noticed it, unless everybody sticks with fpp, or if the -Y flag is new in this release.

  • Another spanned clips bug?

    I've read that Adobe recently fixed a spanned clips bug. Well here's another one (at least on my system):
    I have several spanned clips recorded with my Sony FS700 (MTS-files in AVCHD-container) and my Panasonic P2-camera (P2 MXF-files). When using Adobe Media Encoder (AME) to convert to ProRes, the spanned clips are joined right, but AME encodes the same material several times. The result is several copies of the exact same encoded material written to disk.
    Here's how it works:
    In one case, my camera had split my recording into 4 individual files. I expected AME to a) either join them and output one long file or b) not to join them and just output 4 individual ProRes files. Instead I ended up with 4 joined identical 32 GB files on disk. I did it again and noticed that AME actually encoded the same material 4 times in a row. What a waste of time and space …
    When using Sony MTS-files, AME creates different filenames for each clip (0001.mov, 0002.mov, 0003.mov. When using Panasonic MXF-files, AME put _1, _2, _3, etc. at the end of the filenames.
    In my opinion, AME should have a tick box where you can chose "join spanned files" or not. If it had such a box, it would chose to leave it off most of the time. That way it would be much easier to check if AME has converted all the files or not. It would be 32 files in = 32 files out, not 32 files in = 2 spanned files + x small files out … Nowadays, I have to doublecheck everything before formatting my cards.
    I'm using Adobe Media Encoder v. 7.2.0.43 (64-bit) and OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 on a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15-inch Retina 2,3 GHz i7 16GB RAM 512 SSD.

    Jim Simon, let me explain:
    1. When I drag MTS-clips into AME, the software generates several copies of the same spanned clip during conversion. (They pop up in the queue while AME is converting).
    2. When I drag MXF-clips into AME, the software generates several copies of the same spanned clip before conversion. In the screenshot, which was taken after conversion, you'll see that the file numbers begin with 0018, 0019, 0019, 0019, 0019, and then jump to 0023, 0023. Well, what I dragged in was 0018, 0019, 0020, 0021, 0022, 0023, 0024 etc. So I believe AME skips filenames that are elements in a spanned clip, and then multiplies the the process all by itself. But, yes, I could manually examine the queue and erase identical clips after I drag files in. But that is just not a good way of working …
    So, AME behaves differently with spanned MXF and MTS-files, but none of them are handled right.

  • ANOTHER Lightroom 5 Bug??

    This is another bug that I had during the Beta which I hoped would have been solved. It is difficult to reproduce but happens frequent enough to be a real pain.
    Using the adjustment brush or gradient tool, I can apply settings to photos. Then when I switch to a new photo, I can select the brush or gradient, but I cannot apply it to the photo. Nothing happens when I paint or drag gradients. I can select and deselct the tool as many times as I want and even switch between tools. Only way to get it working again is to restart Lightroom.

    True.... except that in the Beta it was more the gradient tool causing this issue and now it is mostly the adjustment brush. I am not ruling out the fact that it can be something on my side... Could be a plugin or something causing this too. Once I can replicate the problem I will post the steps - but for now I am just keeping an ear out to see if anyone else have this issue.
