Antireflective vs glossy

Is there any difference in appearance between the shiny and the matte screen in Mac Book Pro?
And wich one do you recommend for Photoshop, Final Cut, etc.

Ok, thank you!
But when I have searched on the internet it looks like the anti-glare screen has an aluminum frame instead of a glass frame.

  • Mid-2010 Macbook Pro Hires glossy screen calibration

    Hello,
I have the new Hires glossy screen on the latest i5/i7 macbook pro range. Has anyone calibrated this screen using a Spyder or similar? If so can they post a link to download the calibrated color profile?
Thanks a lot, I had a calibrated profile for my '08 core2duo macbook and it made a huge difference to how natural the color felt - I want to get that feeling on my new one now
    Cheers,
    Richard.

  • Default print tray keeps reverting to Tray 1, asking for glossy paper on HP P3015

We have a new HP P3015 at work, and a few days ago it started defaulting to Tray 1, and asking for Glossy paper.  I have followed all onscreen instructions for changing print tray multiple times, and tried hard booting the printer a couple of times.  There is no paper in Tray 1, and it is shut.  For each print job, I must walk over to the printer and press OK to change print trays, and OK again to print.  How can I clear these settings so that the printer will revert to printing from Trays 2 and 3 without having to walk over and change it for every job?
It also started printing much more slowly that when we first set it up a couple of months ago.

switch off the printer, take the paper out of the tray, reassemble the paper properly, then put the paper back and switch on the printer, it should work
or just change the paper specificationo in A4 legal paper it should work then

My printer suddenly started refusing to print normal jobs on standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper. It shoots out a blank sheet with the edge slightly crimped for about 1 1/2 inches, about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the sheet. It displays the message "Paper mismatch. Paper size or type is incorrect." I have no idea what is causing this problem. It had printed perfectly up until now, but it has given the same error message for the last several different job attempts, and I'm stumped.
I look into the printer from the paper tray and above, and see no obstruction. Any ideas?

  • All in one no glossy

I wuold like to buy an all in one, between 21 23'. But i am looking for a no glossy monitor. I use pc for writing, so i hate reflecions of sun, i wolud like something anti-glare. Is there a product for me?

    Hello Leonidarc,
When looking to possibly purchase a new HP desktop computer you would be better off speaking with the HP sales group. They will be able to fill you in on the in’s and out’s of what you're purchasing.
I am not sure of your location but click on this link and select your country. Once there under the call HP section select “Questions after you buy” and the sales number will be available.
I hope this helps, if you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!
Clicking the 'Accept as Solution' button is a way to let others know which steps helped solve the problem!

  • What are the different model numbers for the glossy screen and the matte?

I just bought a 2.5 MBP from bestbuy and before I open it up I want to make sure I didn't get the glossy screen. Is there a way to tell from the box? It doesn't say glossy screen on it but I wasn't sure.
I am just switching over from having to use a PC for 15 years back to where I started using macs. What are the benefits of the glossy screen?

You may want to check out your local Apple store where both the glossy and matte screens are on display.
Glossy screens provide more vivid, vibrant colors and deeper, richer blacks. They're great for watching movies, viewing photos, etc.
Matte screens are good for use in high-sunlight environments or in situations where you have a lot of light shining on your screen. Many professional photographers opt for these screens because they more accurately reflect how a photo will look when printed. (Don't be confused -- photos look better on the glossy screen, but when you print them they'll look less vivid. Photographers don't like that because it makes it tough to anticipate how a photo will look when printed.)
Here's my two cents: I've spent 20 years on a matte screen. I used the glossy one for a day and you couldn't pay me to switch back. In my opinion, the glossy screen is fantastic.

  • Macbook Pro 15" Glossy - No display

Hi there - working on a MBP 15" Glossy 2.0 Ghz model with 1 GB of RAM. I purchased it from the original owner who said it wasn't displaying video. So far I have tried quick fixes included:
    -Screen brightness
    -PRAM reset
    -SMC reset
-External Monitor hookup via DVI/VGA adapter
    -Boot off of install DVD
    -Reseat RAM module
All to no avail. Let me explain - I start up the machine and hear a chime every time. The system boots rather quickly. From there I can change sound volume using the keyboard, as well as toggle on number lock and caps lock. For some reason the keyboard backlight won't work though. The weird thing is that the sleep LED is on while I am doing all of this. If I start to close the machine while it is on, the sleep light starts dimming until it is completely off. Once the machine is completely closed though the light turns on fully, as if the machine were in sleep mode - yet I can see the caps lock and num lock keys are still lit up, which isn't typical.
It seems to me like this might be a sleep problem as opposed to a video problem, or a combination of both. I understand that it sounds like a logic board replacement might be the best bet here; however I would still like a second opinion. Any help would be much appreciated!
P.S. I was able to access the Hard Drive using target disk mode, and also started another machine from it. System seemed just fine. Could this problem maybe have to do with a firmware update???

Do you have video on the external display? If not, there is likely a problem with the graphics chip. If you do on the external but not the internal, it sounds like more of a display problem of some sort.
It sounds like you have tried the obvious troubleshooting steps. The hard drive sounds just fine. I guess with no video, you can't run the Apple Hardware Test, which would be expected to give you an error code indicating the graphics chip if in fact that is the basic problem. I have heard of some failures of these chips, but unfortunately, there is no program for them like there is for the NVIDIA chips. If it is a video chip failure, the cure is a replacement logic board.
Resetting the SMC should have resolved any sleep issues. Does the sleep light pulse, or does it just glow brightly. If it just glows steadily, that is more a sign of freezing than normal sleep.
Here's the article on troubleshooting no video issues, although it sounds like you've already done what it suggests:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573?viewlocale=en_US
I am confused as to whether the keyboard back light is working or not--you say it isn't, but then say you can see it when closing the machine. One thing to note--there is a flex cable--the trackpad flex cable-- that carries both the keyboard backlight power and the sleep sense signal. If these are not working right, you might want to carefully check that cable. There are also some video cables to check--the inverter cable, the iSight video cable, and the LVDS cable.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook Pro 17" Glossy (Late 2011) vs MacBook Pro 13" Glossy (Late 2011)

    Hi everybody,
I have bought a MacBook Pro 17" 3 months ago. I really love it and it's cool. A few days ago, one of my friends came to my office, broght his MacBook Pro 13" which he had also bought it a few days after me.
He told me he feels my MBP 17" display is somehow blurry. I compare the two devices against each other. Both of them had glossy displays. But I think he was actually write. I think the MBP 13" display looks a little brighter and nicer.
I have also an iMac 21.5" (Late 2009). As you might know, iMac has a very wide viewing angle. The first time I brought my MBP out of the box and turned it on, I found that it's display is not the same as iMac, and it made me a little sad. Actullay I bought a glossy one, since I thought it works the same as iMac display; but that's not true.
I don't expect a MBP to have a very wide viewing angle, but can I expect it to show me the colors as shiny and beautiful as iMac does?
I think my friend's MBP 13" display looks more beautiful than my BMP 17" and it's so much similar to iMac's diaply than mine is! Is there any possibility that my MBP is fake????? I am not sure about that and don't know what to do!
Do you have any idea? Can you tell me something that makes me sure if my MBP is not fake?
    Thank you very much,
    Mani Hamedani

I found the solution and here it is:
In fact the difference between my iMac and MBP display was due to calibration. Using the expert mode of the Color Calibration in the System Preferences > Display, I calibrated both my MBP and iMac and now there is no issue with colors.
The difference between them is the wide viewing angle of iMac display.
Just remember, calibrate your display to have the best colors depending on the light of the room you are working in.

  • Windows 7 on MacBook Pro (15-inch Glossy) from 2006?

    !
I'm about to install Windows 7 32-bit on a MacBook Pro.
Would anyone help me figure out Apples definition on "MacBook Pro early 2006"?
    During 2006, Apple released:
    Macbook Pro (late 2006)
MacBook Pro (15-inch Glossy) in may (16th)
and MacBook Pro (released in january).
I have the one from May. Will it work?

I have exactly the same Macbook Pro as yours but mine has the matte screen. I bought mine in September 2006 but it is classed by Apple as the 'early 2006' Macbook Pro because they released the 'late 2006' Macbook Pro in October 2006, a few weeks after I bought mine :@. As I said in my post, http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2307301&tstart=0 , Windows 7 is working fine on my Macbook Pro, so it should work on yours. Good luck!

  • Best Monitors for video editing??? NEC LCD2690WUXi² Vs 24"Apple GLOSSY LED

I am so stuck finding the right monitor for video editing in my price range i just cant afford the 30" apple cinema display, what is next best solution out there...?
Is Anyone using the NEC LCD2690WUXi² Monitors? from what i can tell they are better than the 24" apple LED displays for video editing as...
    a) anti glare screen & can be properly colour calibrated
    b) 26" screen Vs 24" screen size
    c) got DVI-I & DVI-D Connectors so compatible with NVIDIA GT 120 outputs (1 Mini DisplayPort and 1 dual-link DVI-D)
i would love the 30" apple but the NEC comes in at 1/2 the price so i can eventually buy two & i would have definitely taken the 24" but its just not suitable for professional video editing from everything I've read - mainly due to glossy screen, colours & calibration
pls can anyone help with any display solutions/setups
    warmest regards
    graeme
Oh PS do the NEC LCD2690WUXi² work flawlessly with the latest "Nehalem" Mac Pros?

Not sure if that model number is here or not, but these are supposed to be very good for color work, though I do know that my old shops are still using their CRT's.

Third party monitors are having some trouble with the new Macs. Mostly because of the mini-display ports on the newest Apple supplied cards, but there seem to be other issues as well. You can definitely expect to use the DVI port and leave the mini display for whatever Apple will force on us next.
Apples 24"? Well, it works fine for most but in Apples own description of the display it was made to connect laptops to.
Edit: I'm sorry, for video work? Most anything in the upper end is fine.

  • Is there a way I can tell if I have glossy or non-glossy LCD screen?

    Hi,
I bought my MacBook Pro about a year ago and I don't remember if I have a glossy or non-glossy LCD screen. Some people say you can look at it and tell, but I don't know what I am looking for. My invoice doesn't say.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

I'm not aware of anything in the Hardware Profiler that will tell you which display you have. If you can see reflections on the screen (they are particularly visible if the display is showing something dark and there's something light behind you) then the screen is glossy. A matte display is like frosted glass so it won't show any clear reflections on it.

  • IMac 24" with Glossy display?

I was wondering if there is a kind of glossy film that one can place on the iMac's diaplay to make it even better for watching DVDs by increasing the "blacks" and the "contrast"?
    iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi, yes you are right. By accident I found in a german website, that the offer those films for 15" displays. This iMac is very new. We have to wait a bit more.

  • WONT PRINT ON GLOSSY PAPER

I HAVE A HP PHOTOSMART D700 SERIES PRINTER. FOR SOME REASON IT WILL NOT PRINT ON GLOSSY PAPER. IT TELLS ME PAPER MISMATCH, PAPER WRONG SIZE OR INCORRECT PAPER SELECTION. I HAVE TRIED EVERY TYPE OF PAPER THAT IS AVAILABLE ON THE MACHINE. IT WILL PRINT ON FLAT PAPER WITHOUT A PROBLEM

Hard Reset – While printer is powered ON, pull
the power cord from the printer then from the
wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to
wall and printer. This will trigger a ‘dirty power
up’ and restore the printer to a known good
condition (if it is possible). No user settings
are lost with a ‘hard reset’.
This ‘Hard Reset’ is one of the most powerful
tools to use when the printer hardware is not
    functioning properly!

  • Strange Spots on Glossy Screen

Hi, I am currently using a late 2006 Macbook, it has never given me any problems and it works great. Recently I noticed that there are these strange marks on my screen. They look like the normal screen except, it is slightly brighter, they look like smudges. I have a feeling that this might be the glossy coating coming off, but I can't be sure.
I am no longer covered under Apple Care

Smudges? I have the same problem except i have little black dots in my screen

  • How to upgrade my MBP glossy screen to antiglare??

I already purchased the MBP 15 however I want to change the screen to antiglare. I know I can install an antiglare film but this hits the image.
How to upgrade my MBP glossy screen to antiglare after I already purchased the MBP? Is it possible to do it through apple?

That would mean replacing the top cover of hte MBP, something on the order of $500...and would have to be done by Apple or an authorized Apple repair or it will void the warranty.  You could try talking to an Apple store genius bar person and see if they would do that but it will not be cheap.
