Any reason not to put Lync Edge server on the same server that runs Web Application Proxy?

We're currently running Lync 2010 standard server, without an edge server or reverse proxy.  I'm working on migrating to lync 2013 standard server, and would like to add the edge functionality in the process.  I have a Server 2012R2 in the dmz,
with the web application proxy role installed.  I plan to use that to publish the lync web services.  Is there any reason I shouldn't install the lync edge server on the same computer?

It just won't work well as everything will want to bind to port 443 (the reverse proxy and the edge services as well).  On top of all that, it's just not supported.  A new virtual server will save you hours upon hours of frustration and leave you
with a supported configuration.

  • Two Communication Server in the same Server ?

    Hi All,
do you know which are the steps and recommendations to install TWO Communication Station in the same server (Windows 2003) ?
The first one is connect to CRM develop system, and the second one to the CRM Quality System.
    Regards,
    Davide
    [email protected]

    Hello Davide,
Note 503340 is not valid for 5.0 and above but its major points are still true:
    1. Only one default destination can be setup in the DCOM Connector
which is used by the mobile clients after the installation.
    2. Only one default COM4ABAP instance can be setup on the
communication station. This COM4ABAP instance is started
    automatically after reboot.
DCOM Connector is now .NET Connector and COM4ABAP is now NET4ABAP in 5.0 and higher.
Clearly, connecting to TWO (or more) CRM system has two parts:
a.) For Data Transfer with Conntrans. You can configure A SINGLE COMMSTATION INSTANCE to communicate with MULTIPLE destinations by just adding destinations in the QmtCnfg tool on the CommStation. You can then specify this Commstation and the destination value as you created in the QmtConfg tool on the client and data transfer will work.
b.) For changing passwords of Employees in Tx: SMOEAC. This uses the NET4ABAP service running on the CommStation which is called by the CRM Server. There can be ONLY ONE NET4ABAP service running on a CommStation and this connects to ONLY ONE CRM SYSTEM at a time. Hence it is not possible for one NET4ABAP service to serve multiple CRM systems.
If you need both a and b, it is not possible. If you need only a, it is possible and detailed above and also in the CommStation installation guide.
I also believe you have a message running with SAP Support on this same issue and you would have gotten the same details from them.
    Best Regards,

You can still run two Windows 2012R2 Servers on Esxi, just like Gary said.  For 10 users, it's really not that big of a deal either way.

  • Windows 2012. Assign RDS service Licensing Server on Standalone Server. Connect to the licensing server on the same server as RDS

I have installed Windows Server 2012 Standard. I wish to run this server as a standalone server using local users as the authentication for RDS and not part of a domain. I have my RDS licenses loaded in RDS licensing service and all license show up
in the Licensing Server.  I get events telling me to connect to a licensing server and I find no configuration tool now to connect to the local licensing service.  It will not let me connect to the licensing service on the same computer.

    Hi Bill,
After referring to your post, we can understand that you are facing issue with licensing service for your RDS Server. As Ryan has provided great article for deploying RDSH server in workgroup mode you can refer that and also I would like you to check that have
you specify a license Server for RDSH server to use. You can perform this setting under
deployment properties of RD Licensing and specify the name of the server and in addition there is registry setting for this under below path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing
    More information:
Specify a License Server for an RD Session Host Server to Use (For your reference)

  • How to check if the requested server is the same server?

    Hi,
I am building a request using URL connection. Before making a connection to the server I need to check if the URL requested server is same server. If it is same then I need to call locally Instead of making URL connection.
    Please help me.

Check what methods the HttpServletRequest you provides.
Here is its API doc: [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/api/javax/servlet/http/HttpServletRequest.html].

  • Any reason NOT to update from iOS 4.3.5 to 5.1?  I'm scared.

I have an iPhone 4, and I am running iOS 4.3.5.
I am reluctant to update because everything is working fine.
    Any reasons to update?
    Any reasons NOT to update?
I see a couple of APPS that I have that will no longer work unless I update.  But that's not a big deal at this point.
I notice that some of the graphical interface has a different look (such as  the toggle switches).
    Thanks!

A few reasons I think iOS 4 is better than 5:
    * Resource management (iOS 5 takes up more space on your phone)
    * Loss of iPod icon, now split into Videos and Music
    * If you have a Bose Sound-dock, some report it no longer works
    * Battery is very hit or miss. No major degregation on my iPhone, but I have noticed it.
If you are on the brink, use TinyUmbrella and make SHSH blobs of your iOS version. Then you can swap (downgrade) iOS versions. Note that it isn't supported by Apple and you'll need help elsewhere to do this.
(I am a fan of exploits, so the average user need not worry about the above)
I updated to iOS 5 because of Reminders, Weather, and iMessage. Probably the best reasons to update.

  • I have configure remote access feature web application proxy but not configure give the error. The remote name could not be resolved.

I have configure remote access feature web application proxy but not configure give the error. The remote name could not be resolved in server 2012 R2.
I have configure Ad and ADFS different server and try to configure web application proxy different server. what setting are required for connect web application proxy to Ad and ADFS.

    Hi,
In addition, please make sure that the port 443 is not blocked by the firewall.
Web Application Proxy requires internal name resolution to resolve the names of backend servers, and AD FS servers. When publishing web applications via Web Application Proxy, every web application you publish requires an external URL. For clients to reach
these web applications, a public DNS server must be able to resolve each external URL that you configure. Note that the external URL must resolve to the same IP address as the Web Application Proxy server, or the external IP address of a firewall or load-balancer
placed in front of the Web Application Proxy server.

    Susie

  • Oracle 11G database and Application Server installed on same server

What are the pros and cons installing Oracle 11G database and Oracle Application Server (Forms and Reports) on the same server?
    Thank you in advance, Sonya

Some may want their data in a separate network zone for security reasons.
It also depends if it is the same people that do maintenance on db and appserver.
It is lower cost with one server, and only 1 Os to set up.

  • I have a 5 year old Imac. it does not pick up the wireless internet signal in the same location that my new laptop does. Is there anything I can do to it to fix that?

I have a five year old Imc that does not pick up a wireless signal in the same area that my laptop does - is that just because it is old? Is there a card widget I could add to the IMac?

    Hello,
Do any black bars show on the Airport icon at all?
I have a 2007 iMac that can barely see my Base Station 4 feet away, an older eMac 7 feet away sees it great!
On my iMac I use one of these...

  • Rverese proxy sugguestions - any reason not to use ISA2006 anymore?

This is a silly question, but im just looking to publish meeting content outside the organization to external users, is there any reason for me not to use the old reverse proxy i was using for OCS2007 R2 which is ISA2006 ? i know its out of support and
all of that but fundamentally it should do what i want it to do should it not? or are there any gaping security holes in the product i could drive a truck through?

I believe ISA2006 will work for simply publishing Lync Web Services. (there wasn't too much of a change in how the publishing works from ISA 2006 to TMG that I can recall.)
I am not aware of any giant security holes in the product, mainstream support did end in 2012 and I haven't seen any updates beyond 2009.
A couple other alternatives if you don't have an appliance you can use (i.e Kemp/Citrix/F5 Loadbalancer) are:
    IIS ARR http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2013/02/19/using-iis-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy-for-lync-server-2013.aspx
    Windows 2012 R2 WAP http://blogs.technet.com/b/dodeitte/archive/2013/10/29/how-to-publish-lync-server-2013-web-services-with-windows-server-2012-r2-web-application-proxy.aspx
In fact: Microsoft actual suggest that you can use ISA here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398069.aspx "You
can use Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006 SP1, or Internet Information Server 7.0, 7.5 or 8.0 with Application Request Routing (IIS ARR) as a reverse proxy."

  • Lync 2013 Error Edge and RP on the same server

    Hello everybody
    We have the following issue:
In one Lync hybrid deployment with O365, the Edge and RP roles have been deployed on the same server.
The Edge services are configured to use different ports than 443, the Edge service is working fine, however; the issue is that the RP is not working at all. The most critical feature is the access to mobility services and that all O365 users view the local
    users with presence unknown.
The server is configured with two nics, one to the internal network and the other one has configured two diferente IP addresses, each is one published thorught NAT to specific Public IP addresses for Edge and RP.
So far we identified that the Ip address that belongs to Edge services, is always listening on port 443, even when the service is stopped.
Any experience or idea is welcome!
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

  • Any reason not to trash old updating software?

My utilities folder contains ipod updating software going back to 2003. Is there any reason not to send the old versions to the trash? It takes up a fair amount of space.
    Thanks.

You may want to keep the very last version of the stand-alone iPod Updater app. There may be some rare case where the update/restore feature integrated into iTunes does not work properly, and you want to try it with the old updater. Note: Although iTunes gets regular updates, the iPod software version for the old iPods (installed by iTunes for update/restore) remains the same.
Of course, if you no longer have the iPod(s) from that time, it would serve no purpose. iPods that were release after that point would not work with the old updater.

  • Any reason not to set up Hotmail account on ipod touch?

I have just purchased a new iPod Touch. My main mail account is with Apple Mail, and I have a mobileme account. I also have a free Hotmail account? Is there any reason not to set up this Hotmail account on my touch, along with my Mail account - glitches, conflicts, etc. I can live without it if necessary. If no problems, can you point me to a step-by-step instruction guide to set up the Hotmail account? Thanks!

You can use the web ... using Safari - go to www.hotmail.com - this should bring up a mobile version of the login page. Log in to Hotmail to see your mail. If you don't logout of Hotmail, but simply hit the touch Home button you will be able to recheck you mail just by launching Safari and selecting the pages icon (bottom right) and then selecting the Hotmail page. You will see a Refresh option (or you can touch the clockwise pointing arrow in the URL line).
