Any value in exporting iPhoto pictures and importing them into Aperture?

I am moving from iPhoto into Aperture (moving my library again actually) and I know that iPhoto and Aperture can share the iPhoto library once it has been updated but I am wondering if there is any value (or even if it is possible) to export all of the iPhoto pictures and import them into a new Aperture library?  The reason that I'm asking this is that I know there are a lot of duplicates in my iPhoto library and I know that Aperture keeps only the original.  A couple of weeks ago I moved my iPhoto library onto an external LaCie SSD disk to use with my MacBook Pro but unfortunately corrupted that library and have to make the move again.  If there is any value in changing how I'm managing my library I should do it now.
The library corruption was caused by me needing to leave for work and disconnecting the LaCie before Aperture was done sync'ing with my Flickr account.  When I tried to use Aperture the next day it was not able to repair/rebuild or use the iPhoto library at all.  I was unfortunately not backing up the external disk so I lost everything that I had done to clean up the library after the move.  One lesson that I learned was do not automatically sync with Flickr because doing this on an MBP via wireless with an external disk library can add a lot of delay to shutting down Aperture after an MBP wakeup.

Just in case you have not come across these:
Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries
but I am wondering if there is any value (or even if it is possible) to export all of the iPhoto pictures and import them into a new Aperture library?
You can - an it will depend on what you want to achieve, if that will usefull. The way to do this would be by imprting your iPhoto library into an Aperture library using Aperture. But Aperture libraries and iPhoto libraries are now interchangable - both are photo libraries, and you could simply use your iPhoto library in Aperture and be done now.
Some reasons why you would want to turn your iPhoto library into a library recognized as Aperture library by importing it into a new, empty Aperture Library:
As long as the photo library will have the "Kind: iPhoto library", you will have to upgrade both iPhoto and Aperture always to the newest versions, or you will not be able to upgrade to a new library format, when a new release of Aperture comes - say (iPhoto '12 and Aperture 4); you will probably have to buy both new releases to continue working with your iPhoto Library in Aperture.
If the kind of your library is "Kind: iPhoto library", it will appear in the Media Browser in the iPhoto section, not in the Aperture section, even if you are using it as your Aperture library. And before syncing with iTunes you will always have to open the Aperture library in iPhoto to point iTunes to it.
Also, in Aperture you have more control about what will be included in your library - In iPhoto there is no way to specify the size and quality of previews. If you do not want or need previews, or you want smaller previews, or no Faces, it would make sense to recreate your iPhoto library by importing it into a new, empty Aperture Library.
If you have more than one iPhoto Library, you can merge them into one big Aperture library to be able to browse all your images without having to switch between libraries. Aperture works very well with really big libraries. There is no need to split libraries.
The reason that I'm asking this is that I know there are a lot of duplicates in my iPhoto library and I know that Aperture keeps only the original.
That is what I meant by having more control on what will be stored. iPhoto will always store a very high quality preview of your edited version; in Aperture you can decide what the preview size and quality will be. But Previews and originals are not duplicates; they are not the same image.

  • Export scenarios from XI and import them into PI

    Dear experts
We are planning to upgrade our exitsting XI 3.0 to PI7.0.
Due to system requeriments, we need to install PI on new hardware and migrate all the existing scenario's from XI 3.0 PI7.'0
How to migrate the existing ABAP developements from XI to PI  ?
It's possible to export scenarios from XI and import them into PI?
    Thanks, in advance
    Carme

    Hi,
you should go to PI 7.1 and not PI 7.0 otherwise it makes not so much sense.
And yes it's possible to migrate your scenarios. If you have UDFs you have to check them because the java version has changed.

  • How do i expoert files from Outlook and import them into iphone? operate with Mac OSx at home and trying to convert contacts and calendars from work and carrying on iphone. txs

How do I export calendar and contact files in Outlook and import them into iphone 4. I operate Mac OS X at home and wish to carry my work information with me on my iPhone.

    You do not export anything.
Instead, sync the content from Outlook to your device via iTunes.
Try reading the manual, it's included on the device or here.

  • I purchased CDs and imported them into my iTunes and when the artists has other artists featured on the tracks it separates these tracks into a different album. How can I consolidate these back into one album?

I have CDs that I've purchased from music stores (ie. Best Buy) and have imported them into my itunes library. The problem is that iTunes has separated all the tracks that feature another artist into a separate album. I want all the songs filed under the same album, so that when I play the whole album, I can hear all the songs. Also when the album work is not showing up on some of these CDs. How can I fix this?

The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.

  • Cut parts from song and import them into the sampler on ipad

How do I cut parts of my song in garageband (ipad) and put them into the sampler to fix the pitch on specific parts of my pre-recorded vocals?
For example, I already have a song I recorded, and I would like to simply cut a few seconds of the vocals, go into the sampler, fix the pitch, and then re-insert the editied piece back into my song.
Is this possible on the ipad? I know that the "autotune" option isn't available on the ipad, but I simply want to fix the pitch on a few notes and I was wondering if there's any way to do that.
If there's not, do you have any suggestions or any app reccomendations that might help me achieve this? I can't afford a macbook pro so that's out of the question.
Sorry if my explination isn't clear! And thanks for any help :]

  • How to export outlook calendar and import them in OCS calendar

We used POP accounts so all the calendars, emails, tasks etc. were located locally in the PST file. i am in the process of upgrading everyone to the OCFO 10.1.3.07. I tried for a few users to just export from Outlook the calendar items and re-import them after the OCFO was installed but it seems to add the items correctly but we can't see availability of the users in the scheduling from outlook meeting creation screen.
Is there a special migration procedure from stand alone outlook PST to OCS calendar ?
    thanks for any help.

Can you click "Add Invitees" , click the "To" button and pick them from the Oracle Global Address list?

  • I want to take photos from someone's gallery and import them into my iphoto.  what's the best way to do that?

A friend sent me a gallery.  I select the pic I want and download.  They show up on my screen in Preview.  What's the best way to get them into my Iphoto library?

    Greetings,
Drag them from where you downloaded them (Like the Downloads folder) and drop them on the iPhoto icon in the dock (little camera with the sunset behind it).
When you drag and drop an image on the iPhoto icon it imports that picture (or many pictures if you drag more than one at once).
    Cheers.

  • Can anyone tell me how I can take photos from Pictures and move them  into iPhotos so that I can share them on photo stream to my Apple TV?

I have tried all morning to get my picture files to move into iPhotos. I want to push them using photo stream to my Apple TV. My picture files were originally from a Windows programme, I have too many photos to loose or just lay unviewed on my Mac!

Have you tried the import function on iPhoto?  Have you tried just dragging them into the iphoto app?

  • Referencing iPhoto pictures and notify changes in Aperture

    Hi
I'm trying to figure out how to setup iPhoto and Aperture to work together. At the moment all my photos are located in the iPhoto library.
I've imported some of my iPhoto images as references in my Aperture library which is pretty cool because I can make changes to my images without having to copy them. But the thing I can't seem to figure out is how to notify iPhoto that I made changes to an image and the 'optimized' image needs to be updated in iPhoto's library.
Is the iPhoto -> Aperture link only one way traffic?
Please do mind that I'm aware that there is a way to reference Aperture photos in iPhoto but I'd rather like to have all my images in iPhoto and use Aperture as the 'editing' program.

Please do mind that I'm aware that there is a way to reference Aperture photos in iPhoto but I'd rather like to have all my images in iPhoto and use Aperture as the 'editing' program.
You can't. There is no way to round-trip a photo from iPhoto to Aperture and back again.
Aperture is not an editing programme. It is - rather like iPhoto - a database driven Digitial Asset Manager. While you can set Aperture as an external editor in iPhoto, it doesn't work, because it's a DAM rather than an editor. (You can set the Chess Game as an external editor in iPhoto )
iPhoto has no awareness of or ability to read the Aperture Library. Aperture's ability to read the iPhoto Library is really limited to allowing you to migrate to Aperture from iPhoto.

  • Where are my pictures stored on the hard drive when I import them into Aperture?

I imported pictures into Aperature under the project name Christmas 2012. When I went into Finder to see where the pictures were actually placed on my hard disk, the folder didn't show up anywhere. These are new photos that I added to my hard drive.
I then thought I would do a file search on some of the photos. One picture's file name was IMG_2260. When I searched All My Files for this file, it produced two different photos with the exact same file name IMG_2260!
Now I'm really confused! Any help would be appreciated.

. It just seems strange to me to not be able to find the actual photos with Finder.
The actual photos do not exist as image files, until you export them. The only images that do exist are the originals that you import into Aperture. When you adjust images, enhance them, crop them, Aperture will only store the command, but not actually create the edited version.
    That has three advantages:
Aperture saves space, because only the original image is stored.
Aperture can easily undo any operation and you have a lossless workflow.
Many adjustments can be accumulated into one operation and done very precisely, because the image need not to be rendered to 8Bit or 16 Bit versions in between. Only the final version needs to be encoded as image file.
So, since the edited images do only exist in a state of limbo, you do not see them in the library as images.

When you search for the originals with Spotlight or file search from the Finder, you may find the originals and previews of edited versions, that Aperture creates to share with the Media Browser. In addition to exporting the images, you can access them using the Media Browser from all applications that are compatible with iLife: Mail, Pages, Keynote, iWeb, ...

  • Unable to View .mod files in Photoshop Elements 11, can see they are there but no picture, I import them into Premiere and all OK ?

I have hundreds of .mod files which are supported but I am unable to view them on my Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. I cant see the picture icons as pictures or see the vision when i select them? I am running the latest Windows 8.1 PC with heaps of Ram and memory. If I import the files into Premiere they play fine?

    Thanks Curt and 'Mylenium'
I did re-set the prefs - but to no avail
I checked and my graphics driver and audio is all up to date.
No sure how to verify Windows Media Player's hardware acceleration options. I opened WMP Options /Perfformance tab and under Cd the DirX tab is checked.
Running Windows Vista - so does the same caution apply regarding a re-install of Windows Media Components and DirectX ?
Appreciate your help with this somewhat frustrating issue. I am converting some old 8mm film to avi with the hope of doing some edits then burning to DVD.

  • How can I make title screens in either Illustrator or Photoshop and import them into Premiere Pro?

I'm having trouble finding the identical aspect ratio to import either an Illustrator or Photoshop title screen into Premiere Pro. There are so many ratios to choose from with Premiere Pro that I've about lost my mind. I was able to import Photoshop title screens into iMovie with no problem. I'll be importing the finished video into my YouTube channel. I want it to be widescreen but have no clue which ratio to use. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I always start with New Image in Photoshop, and then choose a Video Preset, that matches my PrPro Sequence. I use one with Guides. I usually choose to create that New Image with a Transparent Background.
Once complete, I just do a Save_As to PSD, which will be Imported into PrPro. If you have Ps Layers, you have two choices on Import: you can Import as Footage, which will Flatten your Layers, or you can Import as a Sequence to keep the Layers separate. Depending on what I will be doing, I might select one, or the other. If you Import as a Sequence, you can then animate each Layer individually.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I want to take all my bookmarked sites on my office computer and import them into my home computer...both macs, both have same versions of firefox...how do i do that?

I don't see anywhere to even back up my bookmarked sites....please help

If you want to keep them synced automatically, you should definitely try out [[What is Firefox Sync|Firefox Sync]]. Otherwise, just go to Bookmarks > Organize bookmarks and click the Import and backup button (It's the star with the square arrows in it). Then export HTML, move that file to the home computer and then follow the steps above but choose import HTML.

  • Can I trash iPhoto library after "importing" them into Photos ?

    Hi everybody.
I have a 157 GB iPhoto library file, with all my photos and videos.
With the last OS X update, Photos was installed.
I told Photos, that the iPhoto library, should be  "Use as System Photo library".
I now have 2 libraries...one for iPhoto and one for Photos. They seem about the same size.
My question now is: Can I now trash the iPhoto library?
Did it import everything from that library, to the Photos library now?
I need the space...Hope somebody can help with this!
    Thank you!

    HI Bobby.
    Thanks's for the answer
I'm going to wait until I have everything uploaded to iCloud then. Takes a while.
Funny thing is, that before the "big import" to Photos, I had about 70GB left on the HD. And the reason why I get suspicious is, that now I have those 2 libraries, each around 157GB. Doesn't make sense to me. Seems like my HD just magically got an extra 100GB , if they in fact are separate libraries.
