  • I keep getting this error " Unable to Assemble Book" filename "(null)." The full resolution photo either cannot be located or is corrupt.  This has happen now that I have upgraded to Lion and the iPhoto software.

I have recently updated to Lion on a Mac Pro 2006.  iPhoto '11 version 9.4.2.
I made a new book from a complete start after shutting down the Mac but I still get the same error!
    Please help,
    Ruedylee

Do the filenames contain special characters, like "ä,ü,..." or white space or are the vry long? Is there anything special about the image format? Try to export the edited versions in that case and reimport it with a different, shorter filename.
For testing, create a new book with only the images you want to check.
If this does not fix it, try rebuilding. Depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the library.

Captivate 8:  Getting this message "Unable to locate LMS's API, content may not play properly".  Then I get a debug message of "44:Tue Feb 17 2015 : InIsLoaded, returning false".  I also see a message in the preview pane when I view the .htm file in the project folder "This course requires JavaScript to be enabled in your browser.  Please enable JavaScript, then relaunch the course."   JavaScript is already enabled and I'm getting this in IE9 and Chrome 40....Has anyone else seen this?

The first part of your issue will be resolved if you load your course from an LMS. If you are not hosting your content on LMS, you can disable the reporting in your Quiz settings (Edit > Preferences > Quiz > Reporting).
Not sure about the Javascript related issues.

I don't know if you've got this solved or not but I started getting this too about a month ago. I just had it happen again about 10 minutes ago. I was on a website & BAM black screen, I don't hear the usual "winding down" of the hard drive though, so the HD sounds as though it's still working properly AND there's a weird hue around the edges of the screen so it's not pitch black as though the monitor turned off. Once I force shut down then I get the true pitch black screen before it turns back on again.
Also, every time this happens & I re-start the hard drive tends to be working very hard doing something in the background for at least 2-5 minutes not sure why?

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Unable to assemble book

I have built a book in iPhoto, but cannot place the order for it, because I keep getting the following error message when the system tries to assemble the book:
    file://localhost/Users/strandoutdoors/Desktop/Screen%20shot%202012-02-04%20at%20 9.31.46%20PM.png
In case the link doesn't work, here's what the error message says:
    Unable to Assemble Book
There is a problem with the photo with the filename "(null)." The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your book.
    Here's the problem:
I have moused over every image that is placed in the book, to check its assigned name, and cannot find any with the filename null.
Does anybody know how I could pin down which photo is giving me the trouble?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Interestingly, I got a similar error message, this one identified the pic, and when I look at the original, it doesn't show anything wrong wtih the pic.  Here is the message I get:
There is a problem with the photo with the filename “DSCN3396.JPG.” The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your book.
This was JUST after doing a full rebuild (every checkmark, 7 hours it took) and so when I removed the picture and replace it with something else, I get the same error message with another pic (from the same roll, can they all be corrupt?).
    Please help.

  • Iphoto error message: unable to assemble book

iphoto error message: "unable to assemble book" when i'm trying to place an order.

Boot into Safe Mode,  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and create a preview copy as described in this Apple document,  .  If that is successful preview the PDF copy before ordering the book from the Safe Mode.
Keep the PDF  file to compare with the printed copy when you receive it.
By any chance are you ordering an XL sized book?

  • Unable to assemble book - help!!!

I painstakingly put together a collection of photo's for my first wedding anniversary and attempted place my order when iPhoto '08 crashed on me. The error I repeatedly keep getting is "Unable to Assemble book [NSPlaceholderMutableString initWithString:]: nil argument"
I am hoping that Apple doesn't ruin my Wedding Anniversary, but after repeated attempts, am beginning to lose hope.

After reading a few other posts from users with similar problems I finally managed to get the thing to work by changing the layout of pages for which I did not include text. It seems that Apple's software is not intelligent enough to realize that if a user does not input text, then that means that the *user does not want text to be printed*. As a recent switcher to the Mac environment I am appalled at what I am experiencing with applications by Apple. Apple fails where MS succeeds and vice-versa. Ah well... I guess you just can't expect ONE single company to make BOTH a stable OS and applications that work.

  • Screen is "half out." Anyone seen this before, anything I can do?

    Hello,
I am a first time contributor to the Apple Support Communities. I have a 2006/2007 era MacBook pro that the screen is half out. I would like to get this fixed for my wife to use as her desktop, but I would like some guidance before I take it into a Genius Bar. Has anyone seen this before? Is it an easy (inexpensive) fix or is it not worth it (given the age of the machine). Any help would be beneficial. The machine runs awesome, I can use it, as long as i use the top 1/3rd of the screen.
    Thank You,
    <photo.JPG>

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Backing up, Updating and Restoring >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step... Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • Does anyone get this error ?

    ISE is Version: 1.1.4.218
when I try to set time and date setting in comon condition, I choose the date ragne,
    I get this error
    Unable to create Condition - f Error: Unparseable date: "2013. 06. 18."
does anyone know why it is saying this ??
I tried Version 1.1.3 too. it does not work either !
can anyone please help me with this.
    Thank you.

This is a known internal defect and should be fixed in ISE 1.2
Since you can't see the defect, I'm providing the bug description for your reference.
    1. Go to Policy > Conditions > Common > Time and Date
    2. Click on "Specific Date Range"
    3. The current date appears in FromDate and ToDate
    4. Save this default setting
A error message appears: "Unable to create Condition - Error: Unparseable date: "01/16/2013"
    1. It's unclear why this is unparsable. (Logically seems OK. Specific date range is for one day - today.)
    2. If there is something wrong with it, then why is it the default setting? (If the start date has to be beyond current date then the default should be changed)
    3. Specific date gives a similar error even if the date is one day beyond the default of today

  • Unable to assemble book error message

After selecting buy book, the bar says assembling book then quickly comes up with a error message saying unable to assemble book.* -[NSPlaceholderMutableString initWithString:]: nil argument . What is going on and how do I fix it.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It might be that you have left a text box empty. Look thru the pages and in any text box that has no text just put a space. Then try again.
If that doens't help, make a backup copy of the library and rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. Try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • HT5557 Why do I get a Message "Unable to Open Book" and how do I fix it?

Why do I get a Message "Unable to Open Book" and how do I fix it?

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder to remove the file(s) that cause the problem.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

By internal, I assume you're referring to your systems (boot) drive. Is it, by chance, a partitioned dive?
Also…although many people successfully use their systems drives as scratch disks, over time you'll have better results using a dedicated drive for your media.
    Good luck.

  • A particular network user can't login to a mac in a classrom but other network users can. Then the network user can login to other identical macs in same classroom. Anyone seen this before?

A particular network user can't login to a mac in a classrom but other network users can. Then the network user can login to other identical macs in same classroom. Anyone seen this before? It has happen twice. Two different teachers in two different classrooms entering the correct user name and passwords and computer won't allow them to login. Then they try in different computers in same classroom and have no problem login.

Yes. I can login with a test user. And any other network user can login as well to this particular mac. Actually the mac has bootcamp and boots into either mac or windows. The same user entering the same login username and password can login into the windows side, but not the mac side.
I had this same issue last semester in another classroom, another mac and a different teacher. This summer I reformatted and imaged that mac and I asked that teacher to login today to that reimagened mac and she had no problem today doing so.

  • Workaround for "Unable to Assemble Book-NSPlaceholderMutable String issue

I got the problem when I was putting a book together. I tried to assemble the book and got the error "Unable to Assemble Book-NSPlaceholderMutableString initWithString: nil argument" The error seems to come up when the Title or Subtitle field is blank on the Cover of a Hardcover book.
I added a space to the empty text field (in my case the subtitle) and I was able to successfully place an order for the book.

    Thank you very much, Anastassios!
I was stuck with my book, ready to print and wasted a lot of time asking around for what seemed to be a system error message string.
Now I resolved, following your workaround. In my case I had to edit ALL text frames I modified (deleting the default text, for instance) adding a simple space.
    Thank you again.
