Does anyone know how to move ePub ebooks that I've purchased onto my Kobo eReader? I've tried everything...help from where I bought the books, surfing the net, etc. but even though the book is in the library of my Adobe Digital Editions I can't drag it onto the Kobo library. I know this doesn't help you much, but, I think you have to see if your Mac pro does audio out via HDMI. I don't even know if mine does via DVI. I think it may have to do with the adapter. Try going into Audio MIDI and setting the digital out to multichannel
and using the toslink cable for now. Lemme see...apparently DVI does not carry audio at all. Hm. apparently monoprice could be helpful? If I understand what you're saying correctly: you want to take DVI and multichannel audio via the Toslink and have it all go out over HDMI, right? Does anyone know how i can embed a browser in my JFrame?

In microsoft technologies they have OLE, where I can embed Internet Explorer into any application written in VB or C++ (or C Sharp).
Does anyone know how I can do this with Java? Is there a way to make a java applet that has a browser in it?
And then if there is, can I also put an invisible layer on top of that, and paste JLabels and stuff into that, over the browser window?

Wow! I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside. Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly. It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle. Of course I took no pictures!!! I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress... The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect. After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though. There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top. After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen. I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background. After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle. After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange. But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

I am acquiring images and data to a buffer on the edge of the while loop, and am finding that the crashing of the program is unpredictable, but almost always due to a memory saturation when the buffers gets too big.
I have attached the VI.

I am now doing some 1 minute import tests from various Q/T's
They are all in the same place on an External 1 TB Western Digital - connected by Firewire 800
I have just imported some 1 minute tests from other Q/T 's and they have imported Ok - quickly imported and transcoded etc fine and quickly.
Using your suggested methd of getting the details using Quicktime 7 Movie Inspector I can see NO DIFFERENCE in the formats! In fact with four of these files open I can click on each in turn and see the Inspector details for each in turn - and only the name, size etc changes - not the format!
I am really upset and confused by this as I have been trying for the last four days to get these imported. I realise that this is small potatoes to those who are having problems with even FCP 7 Files! But, these are q/t's of 30 hours worth of unique reserahc material I shot in Africa. I have made several programmes from this material before (one even shown on Discovery!) I WAS hoping that I could use the new and all singing FCPX to make some new programmes for teaching purposes
But, how can I do that if only some will import? As I posted elsehwre - i get the message "No importable files"

I am loading multiple instances of UI loader containing
external SWFs on my stage. When user double clicks on the video
thumbnail, an instance of UIloader will be placed on the main
stage.The user can place as many UIloader instances on the main
stage. My aim is that if user puts any UIloader on top of already
existed UIloader, the existed loader will be replaced with the
placed loader. I am successful in implementing that by using
hitTestObject method for that. I am planning to provide enough
feedback to the user for this UIloader replacement process, so i
was thinking to change the border of the UIloader as soon as the
dragged UIloader hits the already existed UIloader.
Does anyone know how would I animate UIloader to give enough
feedback to the user that it is being replaced. Creating an
invisible movie and moving it wherever UIloader goes doesn't sound
much efficient.
Please help me out in figuring out this problem. Also
if anyone has better idea to give enough feedback to user, that
will also be welcome. Just to be little clear i have provided
little pseudo-code(below) of what i am doing here.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

I was told by a sales person at the Apple Store at one of my One-on-One sessions, that Mac would not transpose nor change tempo because my "live music" was not a "midi" file.
GarageBand 10.0 will change the pitch and tempo of live recordings - midi as well as audio instruments, but not of audio files. But you need to enable the "Follow tempo and pitch" option in the track editor.
Then you can transpose the region using the "Transpose" slider.
And if you change the project tempo in the LED display after you enabled "Follow Tempo&Pitch" the recording will follow the new tempo.
You can test this with a new project created on your mac.

You can't with iPhoto bu there are lots of apps that work with iPhoto and can be used for the job:
Impression is one such. There are others. Search on MacUpdate
You can also use an editor for the job.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
Seashore (free)
The Gimp (free)
Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
Acorn ($50 approx)
Pixelmator ($50 approx)
Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

Make sure you click in the text box for username and password to bring up the keyboard.
Try powering off your iPad by holding the power button and sliding the red slider when it appears, or try resetting your iPad by holding the power and home buttons together until the apple logo appears.
I would also highly recommend an app for facebook, it's called MyPad.

Draw the shape which is to be knocked out (a line in the example) in a layer above the logo. The colour doesn't matter because it will be made invisible.
Double-click in the space to the right of the layer's name in Layers panel to open its Layer Style window where advanced blending can be modified.
Set Fill Opacity to zero and Knockout to "Deep" or "Shallow" depending on whether the knockout should be limited to a containing Group.

Does anyone know how good the SAMPSON USB mic is compared to having a dedicated audio interface with lets say a good condenser mic?
I am going to be doing some vocals and need a very good quality recording.
It just seems pretty simple right now to use a high quality USB.....
Rather than getting an interface (which I will be getting down the road)
but how "high" is the quality of the Sampson USB mic? Say even compared to
an AKG condenser?? Will I get 90% of the way there compared to an AKG mic and an dedicated audio interface (like the firepod or m-audio-410)
and also if anyone knows will the difference in audio interfaces affect the actual recording quality by a great difference?

I have a Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser mic that I use most of the time.

To be honest it's really a lot of bang for the buck (about $90 at Sam Ash Music) and incredibly simple to use.
It's well-built (the screen is very rugged, and it has a good amount of heft to it.
Given that GB 3 has a lot of decent vocal presets (and software outboard equipment) in it now (with radio/podcast settings and voice over stuff) you can get it to sound pretty good. In that sense, I think it is an ideal podcast or voice over mic.
It's easy to use, just like GB itself. I am a BIG fan of using equipment that is intuitive and does not thwart the creative process, and the Samson fits the bill. Pull it out of its storage bag; plug in the USB cord into the mic and then into the USB port of your Mac and Voila! you're in business.

You are limited by the length of a USB chord, whereas XLR cables into a firewire analog to digital piece of outboard gear will have XLR in, and XLR cables are the standard for long distances mic usage.
One track, mono at a time. There is no way (that I know of) to effectively do simultaneous stereo recording. But if you are using GB as a composition tool (as I do) you do most of your instruments in GB and only vocals (and maybe guitars) live and only one at a time.
You get what you pay for. Is the Samson C01U as good as a Neumann U87 into a tube-based Analog to digital preamp? Is it the way I would record vocals for a major record release? No. But the difference isn't like listening to a scratched 78 rpm shellack record versus a digital recording either. For most applications, the difference is minimal. How much? I don't have the testing instruments to quantify.
But then again, there's something to be said for spending $90 versus $3,800 (SRP) for a U87 and $2,300 (SRP) for a PreSonus ADL-600 Stereo Hi Volt Tube Mic Preamp......

As Tom states, that's interlacing.
Interlacing was invented when the TV was born, to carry 1/5 the frame with each Hz of the electricity rating. In the US, that's why you use 30 fps (or 29.nnn) in the US and we use 25 fps in europe as the electricity is 60Hz/50Hz.
Interlaced video should ONLY (I repeat ONLY) be used for analog TV signal transports.
Each and every digital TV set today, including all the computer screens, is Progressive, updating the full frame at each screen refresh. And most TV's even refresh much quicker, newest TV's refresh a 800Hz..! (giving then problems with the newest LTE spectums..)
If your source media in interlaced, ask why! And stop shooting interlaced.. ;-)
If you have interlaced video, make sure you apply the DeInterlace setting when you import and transcode it.
