Anyone recommend a laptop suitable for running FMLE 3.1?

Hi there,
I've been trying to find out if there are any recommended laptops that other FMLE users have tried that could handle onsite webcasting at 25fps (PAL) at around 500-600kbps (512x288 output dimensions). I managed to borrow a friend's old MacBook Pro which has 2.2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (T7500) & 4 GB of RAM running Snow Leopard and it seemed to work fine for a half hour test I did, only dropping 1 fame in that time (although the processor was being hit at least around 80% throughout) but I was wondering if anyone has used a PC laptop regularly for full frame rate streaming as I need to buy something to do the job and Macs are generally that bit more expensive than PCs!?
The only issue I've found is that not many new laptops have any card expansion slots nor Firewire so it makes DV connectivity that more difficult, so it seems my choice is becoming more limited as time presses on. I currently use a Roland V-8 to vision mix up to 4 cameras to a Sony Capture deck (HVR-M15), to then supply a DV feed from the deck's firewire output to a Dell PC (Intel i7 860, 8GB RAM running Windows 7), but this isn't the most portable solution, especially if attemping anything overseas!
If anyone has any thoughts / ideas as to what would be a good laptop to check out I would be very grateful.
Cheers
Dave

Hi there,
I have a simliar question - I want to use a top of the range Macbook Pro for live streaming using the encoder, but am at a loss as to what hardware to attach to input a live video / audio stream?
I've seen lots of cheap dongles for AV input to Macbook but not sure these will be recognized by Live Encoder.  Are there any USB solutions out there compatible with Live Encoder?
I find it strange Adobe don't seem to publish a list of compatible peripherals.
Thanks

Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?

  • Is it Possible in JSF? Can anyone recommend any java Technology for this?

I am doing Post Graduate Degree in Computer Science. This is my final semester and doing project work.
Any body having idea about my requirment, help and guide to me
My description and questions are as follows:
    Current Approach:
PHP has been used to achieve the flexibility of creating custom images on-the-fly. Using this approach we were able to create a web-interface similar to the application client, where we could display links and get the exact look and feel of the application client.
    Drawback:
This approach forces us to use two different technologies Java and PHP, since our system uses 'Java' accessing all the API's from PHP becomes a problem. while PHP provides a way to invoke any java method. It comes with a draw back, the method calls are little slow. This delay's are loading of web-page.
    Requirment:
    1. Creating custom images on various locations of the screen
    2. The Exact look and feel of the application map should be achieved
    3. Place elements and links correctly as in application-client reflect any changes
    4. Generation events on the Links and Elements
    5. Setting Backgroud images for different maps
    Questions:
    1. is it possible in JavaServer Faces (BETA)?
    2. If it is possible is JavaServer Faces(BETA) How to create custom images and create interfaces among them?
3.Can anyone recommend any java Technology for doing this?
Anybody having idea, help and guide me for doing my project

    hi,
I think you can use JSF

  • System file not suitable for running msdos or windows files ???

    Please help...
    I download the itunes 6.0.5 setup.exe file.
I open it and I see a pop up with Quicktime and Itunes on it. It quickly loads and then a new application opens (a C:// black box
It quickly gets an error (16 Bit MSDOS Subsystem Box) error reads that the system file is not suitable for running msdos or window files. Close or Ignore (neither allow me to load 6.0.5
    I am using windows xp

You use probably a UFS file system, right ? Then in this case, use the "-i" option with a value less as 8192. 8192 is the default value for a UFS filesystem that is between 3GB and 1 TB size.
But if you want to store 10M of files, UFS will be limited to 1M per TB : 64-bit: Support of MultiterabyteUFS File Systems (System Administration Guide: Devices and File Systems)
In this case, use instead UFS a ZFS filesystem that supports 2^48 entries !!!

  • Desktop/Laptop suggestions for running Premiere CS 5.5

Hello, I was hoping for some help.
I am looking to buy a computer to run CS 5.5. I will mostly be editing standard definition DV from my Canon GL-2, but I may upgrade my camera in the next year or so and I want to make sure my setup will be able to handle HD.
I have read many of the other threads on here and they have been quite helpful, but I was hoping for a bit more help if anyone can manage. I would prefer not to have to build my own setup and I was wondering if anyone could provide links to desktop or laptop computers that would be good for running Premiere CS 5.5. Has anyone found any computers that are good to go as far as running Premiere? Something with all the right stuff (i7, 16 GB RAM, GTX570) all included?
As far as budget I would like to keep it under $2000, but I could go a bit higher if need be. I have been looking around myself (this isn't just me being totally lazy) but because I'm not so tech savvy I don't want to get the wrong setup. Would something like this be OK? If so, is this a good price or can I do better?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

  • Can anyone recommend a notebook cooler for a 17" Unibody MBP?

    Hi,
I've been looking at notebook/laptop coolers for my Macbook Pro. Can anyone recommend what the best pad might be?
I've been doing quite a bit of research and see it's not entirely straightforward. For instance, the Zalman ZM-NC1500 has the grill/fans in the wrong place for my MBP - really the cooling area needs to be at the screen end, to directly cool the GPU and CPU.
Likewise quite a few of the better notebook coolers don't seem to be available in the UK, such as the Vizo Ninja 2.
Any ideas what I could go for?

I bought my MBP as a desktop replacement and it gets far hotter than my Powerbook did at peak load. I'm looking to get something to elevate the machine whist cooling the bottom of the unit.
I've seen the NZXT Cryo Lx is well reviewed and actually seems to do a good job. Can't find a UK supplier with stock though.

  • Laptop config for running Windows Server 2012

    Hello,
For demo purpose I need to install Windows Server 2012 on a laptop, and some other 64 bits applications.
Do you experiment a specific laptop which is running fine with this OS?
For example I tried with Intel i5 and 16 GB RAM : Excel takes 10 min to load and most of the time it announces "Not responding". Same thing for all the other applications. I'm quite paralyzed in my job.
    Thanks for advises!

    Hi,
I am not sure what is wrong with your setup, but Windows Server 2012 can run on laptop totally fine.
Especially with your rig. Can you tell us did you do a fresh install of Windows Server 2012?
I checked some pages (not to jump to conclusions myself), and I have found out that others didn't have any issues with the setup.
These are the requirements (doesn't matter if it is a standalone physical machine or a laptop):
    Windows Server 2012 requirements
Make sure your drivers are up to date.
In this article you will see that the guy used a laptop on which he had Windows Server 2008 (lower config than yours), and it worked just fine:

  • Can anyone recommend a quality microphone for recording instruments?

    Hey,
I'm a Garageband and digital audio newbie. I understand you can connect a microphone to record in, instead of using the built-in mic. Can anyone recommend a couple different good quality mics? I want to record an acoustic guitar. Or maybe a web link that discusses how to do this?
Also, in the Garageband Help it describes as an alternative using an audio interface between the mic and the computer. Can anyone recommend something for this? Again, maybe an online article that discusses this in more detail?
I can't really find any specific information to help with this other than the vague sales and Help material.

My personal fav's for the sound quality and price point are the Apex 415 and Apex 460. Both are condenser mic's so then need phantom power, but the 460 comes with a phantom powered preamp so you should be good to go assuming you have an appropriate interface to your mac. Price on them is ~$160CDN for the 415 and ~$260CDN for the 460. The sound quality on these is stunning - rich, warm, and exceptionally detailed, especially compared to the shure SM57's. I will agree though that the SM57 is a terrific all-purpose mic (the design hasn't changed in 20 years, it's hard to argue the accepted capability of these mic's!), but I've found that it just hasn't been able to do justice to the rich sound of my Mesa/Boogie MarkIV. Last night I was practicing with my band and was testing out an Apex 415 in place of the SM57 I usually use to mic my guitar cabinet, and when I played the sound back, I commented to the drummer that it sounded really good. He was looking directly at me, listened, and after a second realized that I wasn't actually playing my guitar and was instead playing back the recording. The expression on his face was priceless..."holy $hit that sounds good, I thought you were actually playing!".

  • Can anyone recommend a good app for designing and printing labels?

I have just switched from pc to mac and have pages on my macbook but it does not have a label function (please apple sort this out its the only major flaw!) so can anyone recommend a good app that will do what a pc does? I do not really want to pay £85+ for office for mac just for the word program

One way to find an app at the App Store is to use keywords.
Type   print labels   in the search field top right corner of the App Store window then press Enter or Return on your keyboard.
Click one of the apps listed. Always check Requirements under Information and definitely read customer reviews before purchasing and make sure there is a support link available in case you need to contact the app developer for questions.
This forum is mainly for troubleshooting the App Store.
For feedback for software designed for printing labels, try posting your topic in the Mac OS X community here.

  • Can anyone recommend a car kit for the Nokia 6131?

I'm looking for a car kit for my 6131 and I'm a bit baffled by all of the options I've found on the internet.
All I really need is a nice neat mobile holder and a charger. The holder should not be the type that attaches to the air vents; I had one of those once before and it just made the car look untidy!
I already have access to a Jabra BT250 bluetooth earpiece so I'm assuming that if the phone is in its cradle I'll be able to use that to make and answer calls. Otherwise I don't mind buying a bluetooth car kit if it's a better option.
I noticed on another thread that someone was recommending the wireless plug in hands free HF-6W to a 6131 owner, but the phone isn't listed as compatible with that on Nokia's web site. In fact, if you look at the compatibility details for all of Nokia's car kits, the 6131 isn't listed as compatible with any of them!
Any recommendations for the best holder and charger for the 6131, or a single unit that combines both?
Thanks :-)Message Edited by pottermus on 01-Oct-2006

The only way to connect this phone to a car kit is via a bluetooth connection, the ck-7w would be suitable for this. There is no specific holder for this phone so you would need a universal holder, i suggest that you buy a specific non damaging bracket for your car to mount this on to give you the best position.

  • Can anyone recommend a simple example for displacementmapfilter? I just want a simple expand effect.

As the title says, can anyone recommend any simple displacementmapfilter examples?
I have a bitmap image of a sleeping animal that I would like to add a small effect to that will make it look like it is breathing. I'm guessing this should be pretty simple with displacementmapfilter - a spherical distortion tweened over time over the animal's chest.
    Any suggestions?

i don't think there's anything simple about the displacementmapfilter. i've tried to explain it before but i've never had the feeling that i was able to convey understanding.
here's the displacementmapfilter at work:  www.kglad.com, click snippets, click displacement.
    here's the source code:  www.kglad.com/Files/forums/displacementMapFilter_AS3.fla
p.s.  there's commented-out code in there that used a squeeze and bulge function during my early experiments that could probably be used by you.

  • Can anyone recommend a tracking software for my laptop? thank you.

I have seen a number of programmes on stolen laptops and how the police use tracking software loaded onto a laptop to find stolen goods.  The problem I am having is getting a good product, not necessarily for free that is trusted and recommended.
Anyone have any experience of using this software?  Thanks for any advice.

Not a recommendation, I'm just aware of the software.  They have Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android clients
