Anyone using iMovie 6 with OS 10.5.3

Anyone using iMovie 6 with OS 10.5.3
I am now using iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 with OS 10.5.2 on a MacPro (working fine).
I would like to here from a 10.5.3 user before getting 10.5.3
Thanks.

thanks Bengt.
I've never done video editing so this is new to me. was surprised at how easy it was with the test video, in this case, being a "flipvideo camcorder" the first step is taking the video clips and then making them into a movie - hence the need for imovie 6.
I will have to now actually read the instructions for doing the next step of editing. initially just wanted to see if it worked with the FLIP cam. now I can have fun learning something totally new.
first think I'm going to do is check what format iMovie6 saves the movie in. the clips are AVI. The tech said they could be saved to another format, but haven't gotten that far yet.
thanks
Sue

  • Has anyone used JAAS with WebLogic?

    Has anyone used JAAS with Weblogic? I was looking at their example, and I have a bunch of questions about it. Here goes:
    Basically the problem is this: the plug-in LoginModule model of JAAS used in WebLogic (with EJB Servers) seems to allow clients to falsely authenticate.
    Let me give you a little background on what brought me to this. You can find the WebLogic JAAS example (to which I refer below) in the pdf: http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/pdf/security.pdf . (I believe you want pages 64-74) WebLogic, I believe goes about this all wrong. They allow the client to use their own LoginModules, as well as CallBackHandlers. This is dangerous, as it allows them to get a reference (in the module) to the LoginContext's Subject and authenticate themselves (i.e. associate a Principal with the subject). As we know from JAAS, the way AccessController checks permissions is by looking at the Principal in the Subject and seeing if that Principal is granted the permission in the "policy" file (or by checking with the Policy class). What it does NOT do, is see if that Subject
    has the right to hold that Principal. Rather, it assumes the Subject is authenticated.
    So a user who is allowed to use their own Module (as WebLogic's example shows) could do something like:
    //THEIR LOGIN MODULE (SOME CODE CUT-OUT FOR BREVITY)
    public class BasicModule implements LoginModule
    private NameCallback strName;
    private PasswordCallback strPass;
    private CallbackHandler myCB;
    private Subject subj;
             //INITIALIZE THIS MODULE
               public void initialize(Subject subject, CallbackHandler callbackHandler, Map sharedState, Map options)
                      try
                           //SET SUBJECT
                             subj = subject;  //NOTE: THIS GIVES YOU REFERENCE
    TO LOGIN CONTEXT'S SUBJECT
                                                     // AND ALLOWS YOU TO PASS
    IT BACK TO THE LOGIN CONTEXT
                           //SET CALLBACKHANDLERS
                             strName = new NameCallback("Your Name: ");
                             strPass = new PasswordCallback("Password:", false);
                             Callback[] cb = { strName, strPass };
                           //HANDLE THE CALLBACKS
                             callbackHandler.handle(cb);
                      } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println(e); }
         //LOG THE USER IN
           public boolean login() throws LoginException
              //TEST TO SEE IF SUBJECT HOLDS ANYTHING YET
              System.out.println( "PRIOR TO AUTHENTICATION, SUBJECT HOLDS: " +
    subj.getPrincipals().size() + " Principals");
              //SUBJECT AUTHENTICATED - BECAUSE SUBJECT NOW HOLDS THE PRINCIPAL
               MyPrincipal m = new MyPrincipal("Admin");
               subj.getPrincipals().add(m);
               return true;
             public boolean commit() throws LoginException
                   return true;
        }(Sorry for all that code)
    I tested the above code, and it fully associates the Subject (and its principal) with the LoginContext. So my question is, where in the process (and code) can we put the LoginContext and Modules so that a client cannot
    do this? With the above example, there is no Security. (a call to: myLoginContext.getSubject().doAs(...) will work)
    I think the key here is to understand JAAS's plug-in security model to mean:
    (Below are my words)
    The point of JAAS is to allow an application to use different ways of authenticating without changing the application's code, but NOT to allow the user to authenticate however they want.
    In WebLogic's example, they unfortunately seem to have used the latter understanding, i.e. "allow the user to authenticate however they want."
    That, as I think I've shown, is not security. So how do we solve this? We need to put JAAS on the server side (with no direct JAAS client-side), and that includes the LoginModules as well as LoginContext. So for an EJB Server this means that the same internal permission
    checking code can be used regardless of whether a client connects through
    RMI/RMI-IIOP/JEREMIE (etc). It does NOT mean that the client gets to choose
    how they authenticate (except by choosing YOUR set ways).
    Before we even deal with a serialized subject, we need to see how JAAS can
    even be used on the back-end of an RMI (RMI-IIOP/JEREMIE) application.
    I think what needs to be done, is the client needs to have the stubs for our
    LoginModule, LoginContext, CallBackHandler, CallBacks. Then they can put
    their info into those, and everything is handled server-side. So they may
    not even need to send a Subject across anyways (but they may want to as
    well).
    Please let me know if anyone sees this problem too, or if I am just completely
    off track with this one. I think figuring out how to do JAAS as though
    everything were local, and then putting RMI (or whatever) on top is the
    first thing to tackle.

    Send this to:

  • Anyone using QT7 with OS 10.3.9?

    I have kept my system safely at OS 10.3.9, iLife4 apps, and QT6 since it all works. I know when QT7 came out there was lots of problems with Panther compatibility.
    Is this still the case with the latest version of QT7? I have a need to upgrade to iTunes 7, which of course requires QT7, but I still am using iLife 4 and Panther and need it to work. I know the solution would be to upgrade to Tiger (10.4.x) and possibly iLife as well, but I wanted to avoid having to shell out $130 for Tiger if I could avoid it.
    What I may end up doing is cloning my current system to an external drive making it bootable. Then if I find QT7 messes up using iMovie and iDVD version 4 with Panther, I can always just boot from the external when doing video work.
    But I wanted to check here and see if I can find even ONE person who can confirm they actually run Panther and QT7 and iMovie and iDVD still work fine for them. Anyone?
    Patrick

    Well I am back with a report on this. I am going to mark it solved since I now know the results.
    I went ahead and upgraded to QT7 in order to install and use iTunes7, but not before FIRST cloning my system to an external drive so that in a pinch I could boot from that if I ran into problems.
    So after the updates, iTunes ran fine and has been for some time now as well as QT in general. It wasn't until tonight that I got around to working on an iMovie project I had started a while ago, finished and has been waiting for me to export it back to digital tape (as a backup) and make an iDVD project of it. I didn't have time to do iDVD tonight, but did try exporting back to tape. These are old home videos imported from older Hi8 analog tapes, edited in iMovie and then I export the digitized versions back to tape so each project is an hour long to fill a digital tape.
    The short answer is, QT7 does indeed screws things up with iMovie. I exported the entire hour to tape and while exporting it appears ok. But afterwards I looked at some of the tape and it wasn't watchable at all. You could get a frame with blocks all over it, sound would cut in then out, skip to another frame, etc. This is something I have done many times before. This was hour #17 of home footage, so 16 previous tapes without a problem over the years on this same setup.
    So I rewound the tape and turned on the drive with old backup system, picked it as the start up drive and rebooted. Verified that the system was the old QT6 version then repeated the same process exactly. Opened the project and "shared" it to a camcorder and let it do its thing although I stopped it after 20 seconds to check and see if it was normal again. It was. So I rewound and exported the whole hour. As is my normal routine, I tend to check the last minute or so of the export mainly to verify audio Sync was still ok after an hour. It was and the video played perfectly.
    So in conclusion, if anyone is still running 10.3.9 and are thinking about updating from QT6 to QT7 (to be able to use iTunes and a new iPod for example), if you are an iMovie user, I STRONGLY recommend if you don't have one, get an external drive you can dedicate as your "iLife compatible" boot drive and clone your system over to it before the upgrade. It is very likely that QT7 is not going to play nicely, at least that was certainly my experience with old iLife4 and Panther.

  • Is anyone using iMovie 08 for editing footage from a Canon 5D Mark 11?

    I'm interested to converse with anyone that is using iMovie 08 to edit Movie files from the Canon 5D Mark 11.

    HI Stephen,
    I have iMovie 09 on order hoping that it would alleviate this issue - sounds like it does not. Similarly to you, my footage imports fine, but the application crashes when the curser is moving over the video. I am lead to believe that iMovie just cannot cope with the high resolution of the 5D Mark 11.
    I have tried the same files on other Macs and the same issue occurs, so it is not my machine or software issues on my machine. All of my software is up to date - except for Quicktime. I am running 7.5.5, so don't bother trying to roll back from 7.6 because it will not help.
    I have also tried the footage on Final Cut Express and it crashes that application as well. I understand the Final Cut Pro can work with the files. At this stage I presume that Canon 5D mark11 users cannot edit footage on iMovie or FCE and possibly some other applications.
    Let us hope and pray that Apple and Canon can sort this out!

  • Anyone use Flex with php for file upload? PHP Notice:  Undefined index:  Filedata

    My code works. It uploads the file and inputs the file name into a database, but I can't shake this php notice. I think php is looking for multipart/form-data from the HTML form tag.
    <form action="upload.php"  enctype="multipart/form-data"/>
    But I am using flex. The multipart/form-data info is sent as the second default argument of the upload() function. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks.
    PHP Notice:  Undefined index:  Filedata
    $filename = $_FILES['Filedata']['name'];
    public function selectHandler(event:Event):void {
                    request = new URLRequest(UPLOAD_DIR);
                    try {
                        fileRef.upload(request);
                        textarea1.text = "Uploading " + fileRef.name + "...";
                    catch (error:Error) {
                        trace("Unable to upload file.");
                        textarea1.text += "\nUnable to upload file.";

    Hi, Thanks for your reply !
    Im not getting any errors Flex side, as i say i get a alert message saying the file has been uploaded so . .
    I am using a Wamp server on a windows machine, how do i check the file permissions on both the folder and the php file ?
    Also how do i debug a php file ?

  • Waves 5.9.7.. anyone using it with L8?

    Hi,
    Trying to update my waves plugs (I have the musician II bundle and the NPP bundle). I noticed on their site it mentions the 5.9.7 update, that is also Leopard compatible. Is anyone using this new version of waves with Logic 8? I'm curious if I should wait on updating my plugs until all the kinks are out.
    Thanks;
    J.

    Does FCP still take 30-45 minutes to load the Waves bundle? In my experience, it would launch eventually on some version combinations...
    Even if you can use them in FCP, you would still see the numerical effects tab interface, instead of the nice skins you see in Logic. But at least you don't have to remember to drag them out of the plugins folder each time you want to launch FCP...
    I'm interested about this because I teach FCP at a school where Logic, Pro Tools, and the Waves bundles are on the same student workstations - We'd have to move those Waves files around at the start and end of every class.

  • Help!! Anyone use IIS4 with developer server

    Hello folks,
    My current setup
    NT Application server :
    1) Developer server6.0
    2) IIS4.0
    NT Oracle RDBMS
    1) Oracle8i
    The commumication between between the 2 servers using SQLNET has
    no problem. I tested it using the SCOTT/TIGER combination.
    But I need to setup the web connection where the browser is able
    to connect to the RDBMS server for queries and data retriever.
    I have tried using the form server, which I found the following
    documentations to connect to the RDBMS.
    ORACLE_HOME%\tools\devdem60\web\readme.htm
    Although the readme file is for OWA server, I attempted the
    configuration with IIS4.0. I understand the only different is
    the configuration of virtual directory. There is a part in
    configuration inthe readme file about editing "registry.dat"
    file. This file contain "funny" character which make it
    difficult to edit. Not sure if I have done it right.
    Nevertheless, the configuration process is done, but when I load
    the web page to execute the scripts, nothing appear on the
    screen on the web browser.
    1) Has anyone been successful in configuring this part of the
    scripts ? Please tell me wrong may has gone wrong.
    2) Has anyone use webDB to be the interface for web to database
    interface ?
    3) Is there any documented way beside CGI to get connect to the
    database via web ?
    I appreciate any pointers
    Thank you very much

  • Anyone using facelets with ADF Faces and myfaces implementation?

    There is a Howto document for using facelets with ADF Faces, but it assumes you're using Sun's RI. I'd like to use the Apache myfaces implementation of JSF with ADF and facelets, but I keep getting a NoSuchElementException thrown when the pages are accessed.

    Am I missing something? Has anyone gotten these three (ADF w/ myfaces impl and facelets) to work together properly?

    Hi,
    It is supposed to work fine and is working okay, in general, for me. I was setting up a test app yesterday and logged the steps in my blog (http://www.jroller.com/page/mjdenham). I think I logged everything.

  • Using iMovie with external USB 2.0 drive

    I use iMovie on a 2-year old MacBook Pro. The MacBok Pro has Firewire 800 and but only USB 2.0. I've been using an external Firewire drive with it for storing my movies. Now it is full and I need to get another external drive. However all the new drives I've seen are only USB.
    My question: Will it be a problem to use iMovie using USB 2.0? (The new drives are all USB 3.0, but the computer is only 2.0). Will I be able to edit movies that are on the extenal drive? Or will I need to store the "in-progress" movies on the computer, and then move them to the external drive when I'm done with them.
    And when I ask "will I be able to" I mean doing it without seeing endless beachballs...
    Thanks!
    Dan

    There are plenty of firewire drives available. This is one of the best:

    Also, can anyone please tell me which files to exclude when checking in the project? I know you're supposed to exclude the .cpd file, but I think I read that there are others. Unfortunately, I can't find the thread where this was discussed.
    Thanks.

    As long as you check out/check in the entire project folder, you should
    be fine. For RoboHelp, it's then as if there was no source control.
    Exclude the CPD. Just include all the other files. (Don't forget to add
    new files to the source control when you create them.)
    Kind regards,
    Willam

  • Anyone Use GIT with LabVIEW?

    I think that the vast majority of people using SCM with LabVIEW are using either Perforce or SVN. Is there anyone who either uses or has used GIT, integrated into LabVIEW or not integrated? (I think there is a tool that uses the SVN protocol to talk to GIT)
    If so what were your experiences?
    =====================
    LabVIEW 2012

    There are several other posts on LAVA mentioning GIT (I think a lot where from FIRST). Post there (just link this post there as cross-post).
    I personally think, that my arguments don't speak against GIT. I've been using SVN and Hg(mercurial) without any integration in the LV IDE (although I have some integration for Hg yet).
    I forgot to mention: Using SVN you could use the plug-in from JKI. If your company invests the money, I'm sure it' a **bleep** good deal.
    All these tools perform very well, even if you don't have the native LV support (as VSS, Perforce).
    If you want a poll, you can check the NI-community features. Just setup one for SCC specifics. I was planning to do one myself, but I don't have the time. It' still not as good (from the quality and quantity of posts) a the forums, but has some cool features (wikis, polls). Advertise this on the most up-to-date posts on SCC issues. I and many others will drop in, I'm sure.

  • Is anyone using Pegasus with iMovie?

    I purchased Pegasus when I got my new macbook Pro, latest version purchased a few months ago. Pegasus seems fast and promising. Decided to get all my iMovie stuff and organize it onto Pegasus.
    I had been using a Powermac G5 previously. Was using final cut express. Needless to say, big loss on that note. I like the speed of the new MBP + thunderbolt, but not sure I'm going to try the new FCP X yet. Seems to be too much anger over the program and I am still adjusting to a whole new way of thinking. Moving from a big desktop to a laptop is quite a move. The primary issue is storage. 750gb drive isn't much.
    I use Aperture 3 also and have referenced my files. That freed up enough space for me to have about 300gb free on the MBP drive.
    Here's where I'm headed for the moment with this question. As I'm consolidating and trying to understand a whole new approach to organizing and using movie files between Ap3, old iPhoto stuff, and iMovie stuff, seems that iMovie is the best overall organizer to view files on the Pegasus, internal drive (very few though), and between various programs.
    #1 - If I were to purchase FCP X, does it organize and show all files between iMovie, iPhoto, and Aperture 3?
    #2 - I found multiple duplicate files for the moment. Sorting through them, rejecting them, sending them to the trash. It does seems to delete them when on the hard drive and I see an increase in free space. When the files are on the Pegasus, it does seem to delete them (checked via finder), but the space increase isn't seen. For example, I got rid of one project that was about 10gb of events. No change seen on Pegasus. ??
    Anyone else using a MBP for video editing that has Pegasus/TB and uses various programs (Ap3, iPhoto, iMovie)?  I'm just now really addressing this issue of trying to understand the best overall approach to organize and manage video files.
    Aperture 3 solved all my photo problems, looking for something as straightforward for video purposes. Advice?
    Thanks.

    iMovie will let you organize your movies, and it will give you access to the existing organization of your photos in iPhoto and Aperture. If you have video clips stored in iPhoto or Aperture, you will have access to them, too. In general, you can organize in the App that owns them. For example you can create a photo Album in Aperture. You can see it in iMovie.
    Final Cut Pro X is the same, but it can also let you import your iMovie Events and Projects. When it does this, it is non-destructive to the Events and Projects in iMovie. But, interestingly, it does not take up any more space on your Pegasus. The iMovie Events will be imported by a Hard Link (same as the way Time Machine works), so you can have both a FCP Event and an iMovie Event accessing the same clips, without taking up double space.
    Having said that, going forward, you would want to import your events into FCPX to take advantage of ProRes 422, which is a superior intermediate codec than Apple Intermediate Codec, which is used in iMovie.

    If the space is not freed up after you delete the clips, chances are you can free up the space by emptying your Trash. The trash keeps up with files like these in case you change your mind.
