Aperture 1.1 Update predicament

I've been trying to update to Aperture 1.1, but I'm getting conflicting messages. First, when I tried to update straight to 1.1, I got the following message:
"You cannot install Aperture Update on this volume. Aperture 1.0 and Aperture 1.0.1 Update are required to install this update."
The curious thing about that is that I have 1.0.1 installed.
But I read elsewhere in this forum that the 1.0.1 version that shipped was not the same as the 1.0.1 update, so downloading the 1.0.1 update might fix the problem. So I downloaded the 1.0.1 update. When I tried to install it, I got another error message:
"You cannot install Aperture 1.0.1 Update on this volume. Your computer does not need this update."
So, apparently the 1.0.1 update sees my Aperture application, but the 1.1 update does not. Any thoughts on how that can be fixed?
Just some additional info: My Aperture path is Applications>Aperture Folder>Aperture
The "About Aperture" window reads:
Version:
1.0.1
1D1
17" PowerBook G4, 1.67 GHz, 1 GB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

remove all traces of aperture (including package receipts), install 1.0 ...
download the standalone updaters from the website ...
install 1.0.1 ... install 1.1 ...
see if that worx for you ...
there are numerous threads regarding install issues of 1.0.1 and 1.1 floating around this board ... a quick search will return much more info than i can type here ...

Find the old Aperture library in the Finder and double click it to launch Aperture with that library set to the default.
And check your caps look key.  It appears to be stuck.

  • Aperture does not update a photo preview after editing in external editor

I have noticed this problem after installing the last Aperture (3.2.3) update. It appears to be common to my Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro. The updated preview is visible only in "viewer" mode (menu / view / viewer). It's interesting, that updated preview appears in "viewer" mode on both displays (I use two monitors). And when I switch into "split view" the preview switch also and is not updated.
After relaunching Aperture previews are updated.
The thumbnail looks to be good (updated). This problem makes my work really uncomfortable.

This seems to be a bug, and has been discussed in several threads. See this workaround suggested by shuttersp33d: This helped me Re: saving from photoshop

  • HT6114 I want to re-install Aperture and make updates to Final Cut Pro on my MAC ?

I want to re-install Aperture and to update my Final Cut Pro software, but when I go to install or update I get an error message saying I need to install the latest version of MAC OS X 10.9.  I currently have version 10.7.5 installed but when I go to do a software update it tells me that my OS X software is up to date.
What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Download Mavericks via the App Store.

  • Aperture won't update from 2.1.2 to 2.4

I've downloaded the Aperture 2.4 update two times, but it doesn't seem to update after my computer is restarted. It still says that I'm running version 2.1.2. When I select Apple>Software Update, it indicates that all my software has been updated.
I'm trying to get the 2.4 update because I need Aperture to accept my Canon 50D RAW files.
Anyone else have this problem or have a solution?

I think you are confusing the +Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.4+ with a new version of Aperture.
The latest version of Aperture is still 2.1.2.
The raw compatibility update will not change the Aperture version. The raw converter update is independent of Aperture and can be installed even if you do not have Aperture installed. Raw files can be viewed in the Preview application - and the raw update covers this functionality too.

  • Aperture 3.6 update for Yosemite is out!

    Check the software update!
    Also iPhoto 9.6.

First observations with Aperture 3.6 on Yosemite:
There is a lot of initial background processing going on each launch: face detection, preview creation, syncing with iCloud.
I don't see any changes to the graphical user interface.
My Canon EOS 5D Mk II raw files and the Lumix FZ28 DNG files are looking very different now.  The colors are more vibrant and the images are brighter; I'd even say overexposed.
The changed RAW processing is surprising, since the release notes do not mention it:   Aperture 3.6 Release notes
    Aperture 3.6 Update
Adds compatibility with OS X Yosemite.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture performance to slow down while browsing through images with onscreen proofing enabled.
Fixes an issue where Aperture could become unresponsive in rare cases when adding to a shared photo stream.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to unexpectedly quit when using the Write IPTC Metadata to Originals feature.
Aperture no longer displays the alert, “This library has been opened with a newer version of Aperture.” when using Library First Aid with libraries previously opened in iPhoto.

  • Aperture 3.3 update?

How does one get the Aperture 3.3 update? I own Aperture 3, but when I run software Update, nothing comes back for Aperture. I currently have 3.2.4 installed on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.8.

    I was afraid of that!
Can't you run Lion on your mac, because of older hardware, or do you need Snow Leopard for older applications and device drivers? I partitioned my system drive  and installed SL in one smaller partition, so that I still can run my apps and device drivers that need rosetta to run.

  • Reinstall Aperture 3 from update disk

I have installed Aperture 3 from update disk and have worked though most of the problems by shutting off some of the features and patience with the processing. However I am concerned about the need for a fresh reinstall at some point which would first involve removing current Aperture 3 application. The update disk requires a prior Aperture application. Aperture 2 is gone except in receipts and Time Machine. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks Carl

Carl, I was told that I could install Aperture 3 from upgrade disc even though I had trashed A2,since my A2 registration was still on Mac and if not I would be asked for it. My reinstallation went through without a moments hesitation and no numbers were required.
    good luck,

  • Aperture SlideShow Support Update 1.1 is out

Just noticed that Aperture SlideShow Support Update in Version 1.1 is out via Software Update.

Should come updated from the Mac App Store. Obviously, it's tough to keep things up to date when they are sitting in a box on a store shelf.

  • Aperture 1.1 Update still has IE Issues

    Hi,
Looks like web photo galleries in Aperture 1.1 are still having some pretty severe formatting issues in Internet Explorer for Windows (any version).
    Will this ever get fixed?
We know IE for Mac is dead, love Firefox and Safari but many clients are Windows-based suits.
It appears that just some css tweaks should get this stuff working on most browsers.
    Thanks!

    tindysteve,
have you seen the CSS that the Aperture creates for web galleries (1.0 thru 1.1 uses the same code)?
i'm not an expert by any means, but i looked through the w3.org's CSS v2 spec and there seems to be a lot of strange table/cell conflics going on with the CSS that Aperture creates.
i also did a search online for sites that use the tag <meta name="description" content="Created by Apple Aperture" /> and they all render pretty poorly in IE for Windows. Hopefully Apple will update this very soon.

  • Aperture won't update Photo Stream

I have downloaded Aperture 3.2, and have moved to iCloud.
When I take photos on my iPhone, they appear very quickly on my iPhone and iPad in the "Photo Stream" album of the Photos app.
It seems they only show up in Aperture if I go to the preferences, and disable Photo Stream.  Then when I re-enable Photo Stream through the same preference dialog it updates, and all my pictures then show up.
How often is it supposed to update in Aperture, and why does it only update when I disable and re-enable Photo Stream in the preferences?

I have the exact same issue as briansp.
To see if Photo stream really works in Aperture... I was a bit cheeky and walked into an Apple Store and set up my iCloud account on a MacBook Air...  I then launched Aperture on the Air...turned on Photo Stream... and then I took a photo on my iPhone and it worked perfectly. It appeared in Aperture like it should.
So it's either something to do with my WiFi network at home, or maybe I need to uninstall Aperture on my Mac and reinstall and see if that fixes it.
    Either way it's annoying.
But at least I saw it work in the Apple Store.

  • HT3805 I lost the content of my aperture library after updating the library.

Can anyone tell me how to undo the update. I hope that will restore my library. I tried the First Aid tools and deleted the user preferences. No result unfortunately...

It seems I have a new library without my "old" pictures.
Is this library apparently empty, but large enough to be holding all your image files?
What is the size of this new library?
    I thought I had version 3.4.something.
Have you checked the version of your Aperture Application? From the menu item "Aperture > About Aperture"? What is it?

  • Aperture freezes after update!!

    Hello everyone.
I updated Aperture when i heard of the new update, but now Aperture freezes my Mac completly, so that i have to hold down the power button to shut down the computer.
It only happens after maybe 15 min of use. Only the mouse is working, everything else is frozen.
I just bought the new Macbook Pro 13", i never had the problem before with my old Mac from 2009.
But it seems like it´s the update that causes the problem.
Anyone experienced this or know what to do?

Your mobile strategy seems similar to the mobile strategy I used for a long time, but a very large constraint was that within 3-4 months, the AP library on the internal drive of the MBP became sufficiently large that it needed to be moved off the internal drive and a new AP library needed to be started. All of these libraries used referenced RAW files on an external drive. I only have 160 GB. The other huge issue was the requirement that I do all my project editing on my MBP prior to finalization or I had the onerous task of 'synchronization' I only edit on my MBP when absolutely necessary. Otherwise I would prefer my desktop.
My current model is simplier, assuming that it works. I place my active project pictures in managed libraries with distinct project names on an external drive. I can then load those individual libraries with the Aperture that resides on my laptop or on my desktop and not have to worry about which library is most up to date because I am always working on the same library. After the initial creation of the project specific library, I copy it to a 4TB FW drive and back that up to a second 4TB drive. So before I start working on the library, I have three copies of the library and the original RAW files.
Once the project is completed, I import it into the master library and back up, and archive the final project.
I guess I don't agree with your perspective about the relative importance of getting AP to play nice with USB drives, assuming that is the problem to begin with. I am doubtful, but it certainly is worth testing. I had work to get done today but hopefully I can spend time on this subject tomorrow.
For the looker-ons, I am wondering if anyone else places managed AP libraries on external USB drives and do extensive brush tool editing? If yes, do you have problems with AP crashing? Whose drive do you use, how large is your library and how much editing do you do on a regular basis?
