Aperture 3.4.5 will not show NEF files after importing in OSx 3.8.5

Hi this is driving me crazy. I have quite a few NEF files from a Nikon E5000 that I would love to be able to process using Aperture but have run into a rather difficut situation. When I import my images into Aperture I can see the preview of the files in the browser but can not get them to display after they have been imported. I have tried importing localy through the internal hard drive on my IMac late 2007 as well as through an external NTFS formated USB backup of my files. It also chokes on direct imprting from the CF card using a card reader. In all cases they will sometimes display for a brief second both in the picture browser after importing or on the film strip view but will then disapear and display "unsupported image format" in its place. I have reinstalled aperture and run both repair persissions through disk utility and the aperture repair utility that ships with aperture. I have no problems with canon raw files or other file formats - jpg, tiff, png, photoshop, bmp. Also NEF files will open in lightroom 5 and photoshop cs6 with out issue as well.
Any help in restoring functionility would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the time and effort in advance.

Do you mean a NIkon CP 5000 (Coolpix 5000)? Aperture supports many raw formats, but not all, because the raw support has to be camera specific. Not all NEF files are in the same format - all Nikon cameras will call their raw files NEF.
For some cameras Aperture never included raw support. The currently supported cameras are listed here:

It looks like your camera is not on this list, so if you want to shoot raw with that camera, develope the raw files using a different raw converter (Adobe's dng converter or the suftware that came with your camera) and import tiff or dng files to Aperture.

Yes, you need CS6. DNG Converter is just a standalone tool to convert RAW to DNG files which then may be possible to open in older versions of Adobe tools.

My image files will NOT show up when I import them

I CANNOT see my image files when I import them. This is the case regardless of whether I import them directly from my image files, or from my Flash library. They WILL NOT show up in the stage area, although the panel on the right shows the file! What can I do to correct this? I am using Flash CS4 which I need for my Digital Design classes through the Art Institute of Pittsburgh! I will FAIL this course if I can't get this program to work properly!!

Here are a few things to check:
Do you have anything else on Stage that might be covering them up? Is your target layer locked? Is the layer visibility turned off?
Are you doing this in an existing document, or a brand new document?

Punctuation will not show up even after render

I'm trying to add punctuation (like "." and "?") to my projects but it will not show up in the project and even after I render the movie. Can anyone help me fix this???

There's no good reason that a properly made typeface should not work.
What typeface are you using? There are a few, mostly obscure typefaces that don't have all characters present. In that case, missing characters will be replaced by a box. Is that what you are seeing?
You can confirm the exact contents by looking at the typeface in FontBook, with the View mode set to "Repetoire".
What version of LiveType? If you are using LiveType for a Final Cut project, there's no need to render a movie if your LiveType is version 1.5 or newer. Justy import the project file -it can be treated exactly as if it were a video clip

Lr4 version 4.4.1 will not recognize nef files from my nikon d610? why?

I downloaded the latest version of LR4 (4.4.1) and downloaded the latest raw converter as well and it still will not recognize the files. I updated PSE12 with the latest raw converter and that opens fine.

Because your old version of Lightroom has no idea what a D610, or what to do with its files - the latest version of Lightroom is version 5.4, and D610 support came with Lr 5.3.
So you can either upgrade to 5.4, or convert your D610 files to DNG (which Lr 4 can read) using the Adobe DNG Converter: but Lr 4 will never, ever, natively support the D610.

Itunes on W8 will not play any files after upgrade to 11.0.4.4

After following the prompt and updating Itunes on Windows 8 to version 11.0.4.4 on 6 June, Itunes no longer plays any audio or video files from my library. Pick a file and Itunes shows that it is playing (Pause button only) however nothing happens. The file simply does not play. Windows Media Player will not open any files. VLC will play flash video files but with no sound. Video played in IE10 seems to play ok including sound. Anyone have any suggestions. I can uninstall but figure I'll get teh same version when I re-install. Everything worked fine prior to installing this upgrade.

Resolved by running W8 System Restore to a point prior to the last Itunes update. Now back on the previous version of Itunes. Windows Media Player working correctly with all file types. Itunes working correctly also. I'm quite happy not to re-apply any updates from Apple for a while.

Albums not showing in library after import

Just install iTunes 10.4.1.10 on Win XP (have same issue on Win 7) it auto added my music folder but its all messed up due to filenames etc so I deleted everything from library with the intention of manually importing everything. Albums are not showing in library after going File -> Add Folder to Library...
Any ideas?

Note that Pause and Resume can be found in the right-click context menu of an item (toolbar drop-down list).
Do you have the .part file or only the (final) file with a byte count of 0 bytes?
If the .part file and doesn't have the expected file size (2 GB) is missing then you won't be able to resume this download anyway. You can check the temp folder as well.

Music will not show in library when imported from file

To whom ever can assist me:
Firstly, thanks for looking this over.
I am attempting to import music files that I have already saved on my PC via Real Player (I saved the music from my music CDs, using Real Player as my default media player). These files are saved on my C: Drive, under "My Music", and saved in folders under each artist.
Now, as I go into the iTunes icon, go into "File", and attempt to "Add file to Library", the songs are not being saved to my iTunes library. It allows me to find the song and double click on it, assuming I am opening it into the library, but it does not show.
I have gone through a few forum questions to see if I could find the answer on my own, and understand that because my music is saved w/a Real Player icon, that I may have to convert it. But I am completely lost as to how to do this, and w/out having to resave the songs say, like on CD, then resaving on iTunes.
Any suggestions?

If you've saved the songs as Real Player format then unfortunately iTunes will not copy those songs into the library. Because the extension is ".rm" which iTunes doesn't recongize.
If the songs are saved with a .mp3 file then they should copy just fine.

Hi Qt 10.1 will no longer open .wmv files after upgrading to 10.7.4. I have the latest version of flip for mac. They will opwn in QT7 pro but does anybody have a fix for this problem at all? Thanks in advance.

Motion 5 will not permit psd file to import with layers

OK, a friend wants me to do a project for him- animate his logo- in motion. He developed his logo in photoshop and it is a psd file as a result.
My problem is that motion will NOT let me import the file with the individual layers. I've tried setting it to 8 bit color channels (he designed it with 16 bit channels) because there was a forum that suggested that and it did not work. I've tried importing it with the + icon on the media tab. I've tried importing it with file>import. I've tried dragging and dropping the file on the canvas. I've tried reformatting as a tiff and png file. I've tried everything google will tell me and yet I have nothing.

Choose File > Import.
Select the layered Photoshop file to import, then click Import.The Pick Layer to Import dialog appears.
Choose a command from the Layer Name pop-up menu:
Merged Layers: All layers of the Photoshop file are collapsed into a single Motion layer.
All Layers: A group is created, and each layer of the Photoshop file is preserved as a separate Motion layer in this group.
[Individual layers]: Each layer in the Photoshop file appears as a separate item in the drop menu. Selecting a layer adds only that layer to the project, where it appears as a single Motion layer.
If you don’t like the layer you chose, you can pick a different one from the Photoshop file without deleting or importing again. You do so by selecting the recently imported Photoshop layer, then choosing a different Photoshop layer from the Layer pop-up menu in the Properties Inspector.

Awesome Bar will not show browsing history after update - I have location bar set to show from history and bookmarks with history being saved for 10 days. How do I fix this?

I updated firefox last night and now none of my history will show up in my location bar. Everytime I either close the browser window or start a new tab I have to completely type out new addresses.

I'm the original asker. I uninstalled Firefox, including associated personal data and reinstalled. It now seems to work. I used FEBE to reinstall bookmarks and extensions.

Photoshop will not open NEF files

I have a Nikon D5200 that I purchased a couple months ago. I recently decided to start shooting in raw, and I found I could not open the photos in photoshop (CS6). I took to the internet and found that I needed to download the Adobe DNG Converter. I got the 7.3 version which says it supports the d5200, but photoshop still can't open the files. I tried restarting photoshop and my computer after downloading the plugin. I tried the same with the 8.3 version, and still no luck. Can anyone help me out?

There are two options:
Update the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plug-in used by Photoshop to recognize and process Raw files, or
If your version of Photoshop is not compatible with the version of ACR required to open Raw files from your camera, then download and install the DNG converter to convert Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in your version of Photoshop
The limitation with the ACR plugin is that

In your case, the D5200 was first supported in ACR 7.3.
Photoshop CS6 shipped with ACR 7.0 and is compatible up to ACR 8.5 (8.3 with Windows XP).
So, in PHotoshop, check your version of Camera Raw (Help > About Plug-Ins > Camera Raw). Click Help > Updates to update ACR.

Airport Extreme will not show IP address after new cable provider install

I got a call from Comcast that he is unable to get my Airport to give a Wifi signal after he installed their service and modem. Has been working fine with the Sprint 4G modem. I'm between Mac's, running a PC with Linux Ubuntu, so unsure how I can reset the modem, and set it's setting without OSX or Windows. Puzzled why it all of the sudden is giving issues. The tech states he can connect to the Comcast modem via Ethernet and get internet with no problem, just the Airport isn't broadcasting it's IP/Wifi.

I have the connections made correctly. The odd thing is it isn't feeding the ethernet ports on the router itself. I think the technician wiped my settings, and with Linux, no way to reconfigure without the Airport software, there is one software available, but I could never get it working.
I made an appointment at the Genius Bar to have it checked out.
In the mean time, I bought a Netgear N300, works flawlessly with Linux.
Wish the Airport was configurable by IP.
