Aperture 3.5.1 update missing

Just had an iMac with 5K display delivered. Was astonished to see that aperture would not open on it. I followed many threads and claims of support for existing versions of Aperture - but this does not appear to be the case. I have well over 20 years of photography including scanned slides (in excess of 150k photos) in Aperture and require a professional tool, not "Photos." All photos are referenced - on a 4TB external drive.
For Capture One to import the Aperture library they recommend the library be in version 3.5.1. I cannot get Aperture beyond 3.4.5 as all updates appear to have vanished. Is there any way to update aperture? I have one laptop with 10.6.8, another kept in 10.9  and the iMac with 10.10.3.
Aperture has worked exceptionally well for me, but this situation is probably going to take weeks to sort out. I am cursing this new computer and Yosemite instead of scrolling through beautiful high resolution photos.

Spent some time over the phone with tech support and the situation was resolved in the following way:
1) Backed up a copy of the application Aperture onto an external hard drive.
2) Delete the Aperture from the Application folder.
3) Restart the computer. Ensure that that hard drive containing the application is disconnected.
4) Go to the app store and the "update" icon for Aperture should have changed to "Install"
5) You can now install Aperture and it should select an appropriate version for your OS.
I am up again with Aperture. This gives me some time to decide which replacement product I am going to choose. It is looking like Capture One. I am sad that the Pro versions of software have been eliminated, but I understand that there are business decisions being made higher up.
My experience with Aperture does call to mind the famous Apple superbowl ad saying that "Apple is why 1984 will not be like 1984." How ironic. My experience with the updaters and Aperture itself seems very 1984. As if Aperture were a historic figure in Stalinist Russia and every trace of it was to be removed.
"Only Photos exists."
"It has always existed."
"It will always exist."
"Double plus good good."
On the other hand the people from tech support were wonderful. I tip my digital hat to you!

  • Reinstalling Tiger: Software Update Missing Many Updates

I've seen a few similar topics on this issue, but only in so far as Software Update missing an update here or an update there. I am currently reinstalling Tiger on a Power Macintosh G3 B&W that has been heavily upgraded. The system specs are as follows..
1GHz PowerLogix G3 (using MAChSpeed to enable full processor speed since the included CPU Director software won't work in 10.4.11)
    1GB of RAM
128MB Radeon 9200 Graphics card connected to an LG 1952 display and set to 1440x900 / millions of colors
I'd go on, but the remainder of the hardware upgrades should have no effect on Software Update to the best of my knowledge. Previously I had this machine running 10.4.11, and through the Software Update program I had installed all of the recommended updates, which included numerous security updates, Safari 4.0.3, and iTunes 8.2.1. Everything was running perfectly smoothly, but after having tested several software configurations and having decided on one in particular, I set out to reinstall Tiger from scratch in order to keep things as clean as possible. I've tried several different times now with the same results each time. Once the system is up and running, regardless of whether or not I install MAChSpeed before or after running Software Update, Software Update simply does not provided all of the updates that I believe are actually there. It did see and did allow me to install the following updates..
10.4.11 Combo update (I installed this one separately before any other updates)
    Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2
    iTunes Phone Driver 1.0
    Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update
    Quicktime 7.6.4
    Security Update 2009-005 (PPC)
    J2SE 5.0 Release 4
Java for Mac OS X 10.4, release 5
    [ditto], release 6
    [ditto], release 7
    [ditto], release 8
    [ditto], release 9
Unless Security Update 2009-005 is meant to be a combined security update (doubtful), there are obviously several security updates that are missing. Also, I'm surprised that Software Update saw and installed Quicktime 7.6.4 but didn't see or install the latest PPC versions of iTunes or Safari. Safari 4.0.3 as I understand requires Security Update 2009-002, so naturally it would not see or install Safari without that update being installed first. While I don't necessarily mind installing updates manually (downloading them individually off Apple's support site and then installing by hand), I really prefer using Software Update to better automate the process. Up until now I have never had any problems with Software Update, but this problem is certainly aggravating. My primary concern is that I have no idea what updates are necessary and what updates are not necessary to ensure proper and relatively secure operation of my system, and I have no way of knowing whether or not Software Update will see any future updates (provided that Apple continues to support Tiger for a little while longer). If Software Update is missing crucial updates out of the gate, how can I be sure that it will see any further crucial updates that may hopefully be released?
I know that's part question / part rant, but I've been wracking my brain for the past few days over this one. Any information that could help solve this problem will definitely be appreciated, especially since my B&W is my preferred browsing machine.
Incidentally, my iBook, a Clamshell FW SE, is currently running the same setup that my B&W was previously running.. 10.4.11 with Quicktime 7.6.4, iTunes 8.2.1, and Safari 4.0.3, so as far as I can tell, this shouldn't be hardware related (my iBook is far less powerful than my B&W currently is). Also, a cursory glance at the Installed Updates list on my iBook definitely shows that my Software Update on my B&W is missing many updates.

I reformatted the drive first and did a clean install. I'm currently in the process of downloading the standalone installers for Safari 4.0.3 and iTunes 8.2.1. It's looking like that's the solution at present, but I'm still curious as to why Software Update won't see any iTunes or Safari updates within the current system configuration's capabilities (speaking to both apps possibly being cumulative). I can't see Software Update simply not having those updates because there is newer version out, if indeed they are cumulative, since that would mean that anyone reinstalling or upgrading on an older machine would be forced to perform some of the updates manually where not too long ago they would have been able to simply use Software Update as a "one stop" solution.
Oh well, maybe I'm just being too picky . I've had to deal with running around in circles to find software updates for manual installs for years with Windows systems, and Apple's "one stop" Software Update system was a wonderful, welcome change to that.

Make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) if you don't already have a currnet backup of the library and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Aperture 2.1.4 update will not load after Snow Leopard update

Has any one found the fix for aperture 2.1.4 update not loading after the installation of Snow Leopard. I to am also getting the alert "aperture 2.0 or later is required to install the update". I installed my copy of aperture 2.1 using the installer with no problems so the program is in the correct location. I've seen the posts related to this problem and it does not seem a fix has been found.

Just ran into this myself. I did check to see if there was a preference to delete under ~/Library/Preferences and one is not created since 2.1 is never actually launched. 2.1 is sitting in the root of Applications and hasn't been renamed, but the 2.1.4 update just doesn't detect that it is there and just gives the alert "Aperture 2.0 or later is required to install this update."

  • What's wrong with the Aperture 2.1.3 Update?

    Hi,
I downloaded the Aperture 2.1.3 Update but am unable to update my existing Aperture 2.0.1 version. Whe I try to run the installer, I get the following message: "Aperture 2.0 or later is required to install this update."
Any suggestion or help is appreciated.

    Hi,
I did, thanks for the link. I tried all that, nothing worked It's kind of frustrating to have the Aperture 2.0 version and not being able to update. The automatic Apple software update doesn't recognize the need for an update so I tried to do it manually. I never moved or renamed this application, it has been in the Applications folder from the beginning.
I don't have the time or energy to figure this out. It worked in the past with the 1.x.x version. I also tried with lower updates (2.1.x), same problem. Should I maybe de-install Aperture and try to install it again? Would that help?

    Igor

  • Unable to install Aperture 2.1.4 update on Snow Leopard

    Hi Folks,
I have Aperture 2.1 installed on my Mac. When I try to install the 2.1.4 update, it quits by saying "Aperture 2.0 or later is required to install this update". And Snow Leopard wouldn't let me launch Aperture without this update. Has anyone else faced this issue? Any known workarounds?
This is a clean install of Snow Leopard and Aperture.
Also, Software Update doesn't show the Aperture 2.1.4 update either.
    Thanks,
    Deepak
p.s. As a workaround I am downloading the full 2.1.4 trial which I'll use with my retail serial.

I have been having the same difficulties since installing Snow Leopard. When I perform a "software update" Aperture updates are not listed. I manually downloaded the 2.1.4 update and was then unable to install it for the same reason as above; the original 2.1 version is not recognized as even existing on the computer.
Interestingly, I have the same issue with Safari. The program disappeared from my Mac Pro during the upgrade to Snow Leopard and when I downloaded the latest Safari program and tried to install it, the installer informed me that I had to have OS X v10.5.8 or newer in order to install this program; all partitions on the computer were indicated to be unsuitable for installation including the system (10.6.2) partition. This problem persists. So what gives?
    Thanks for any help
    Jon

  • Aperture won't allow update vault

since update to 10.8 I've been having problems with aperture like vault wont update(will freez up), dodge&burn tools not working right, overall performance slow. I trashed the app and reloaded seems somewhat better but my computer still freezes when trying to update vault ?

Hi johnmyself, cor-el has covered Flash. For the other two:
    * Adobe ReaderAdobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape - because Adobe doesn't support Reader XI on Vista, you're stuck with the Reader X series and corresponding plugin 10. Mozilla's plugin check site only considered the current plugin 11 series to be up-to-date, so you'll have to rely on Adobe to keep you on the latest Reader X and plugin 10. You can use Help > Check for Updates in Adobe Reader X to watch for updates.
    * Adobe Flash PlayerRealNetworks(tm) RealDownloader PepperFlashVideoShim Plug-In - this is something supplied by RealDownloader and most likely would be updated when you update that software.

  • Aperture has not been updated to support new higher-resolution Facebook images

In August facebook changed the maximum dimensions of a photo from 720x720 to 960x960 (http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=10150262684247131). Much like the last time they upped the resolution of photos on Facebook, Aperture didn't get updated to accomodate this change for months. As I understand this isn't some long gradual rollout -- all FB users can now use 960x960 images, and seeing as this is probably like one line of code to change, I'm just wondering if we'll be waiting months and months again to take advantage of this. In the meantime there's little reason to create FB albums through Aperture since you're forced to use lower resolution images.
Anyone know how to perhaps modify Aperture to make this change while we wait for a proper update?

Totally understand your first point. Some photographers want to protect their work. Thing is, some don't. It's just a hobby for me and I know I won't be making any money on it. People like me just want to put up the best version of a picture FB will allow us to. Perhaps Aperture should allow the user to CHOOSE the resolution of the image that gets uploaded.
Facebook has, for the past while (long before the 960x960 change in August) allowed users to "download" the image, typically at a much higher resolution than what is displayed. The difference is that up until August, images viewed on facebook only displayed at 700x700. Now that's been upped to 960x960.
Upon some re-testing I do have to eat my own foot. I just created a new FB album through Aperture and they are showing up as 960's instead of 700's. However all my older albums still show the images at 700x700 (something FB said would change automatically, since they technically already have much larger versions of these photos to resample to 960x960). It seems you have to force an update by editing the image so it gets reuploaded.
So in conclusion, foot has been inserted into mouth.... though it'd be nice if I could simply "re-sync" my older albums to have them display at 960 without having to fool aperture into reuploading the whole thing....

  • Should I download Aperture 3.6 compatibility update before or after downloading Yosemite?

I'm running Mavericks OS on my late 2009 MacBook.
I would like to download Yosemite but I'm worried about my photos on Aperture 3. Should I download the Aperture 3.6 compatibility update before or after downloading Yosemite.? Thanks.

I bought Aperture 3 from the App Store some time ago but got it updated regularly
Does that mean, you are now running Aperture 3.5.1? Then you should be seeing Aperture on the Purchases tab of the App Store and your Aperture license has been associated with your Apple ID.

  • Update (Missing):

    Hi,
I see that few KB are under Update (Missing) as like below in WUHandler.log.  If it is missing means particular machine will  come under compliant or not compliant. Also whether these kind if patches are required for the machine.
    Update (Missing): Update for Windows 7 (KB2882822) (a12c569e-acc7-4084-b6d9-980bd453cfae, 200)

    Please update me
    Regards,

It means the system is missing the update implying that it should have the update. Thus, the system is non-compliant as far as that update goes.

  • Updates missing content report

    Hello,
I'm having some trouble creating a custom report that will return all updates in all deployments that are missing content.  I found the report that returns all updates missing content for one deployment but I want to run it for all deployments at one
    time
    Thanks

You'll have to copy and modify the report. Don't know the exact SQL for this but it shouldn't be difficult (assuming you know SQL but if you don't it's time to learn).
