Aperture 3 - Continuous freezing and library updating

Aperture seems great when it works but is updating my library of 6000 pictures regularly for no apparent reason and this at a speed of one picture every two seconds. The computer is a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 and should be able to cope but the fans are running at top speed and Aperture is completely blocked. Aperture also freezes and aborts when I try to add music to my slideshows. Can the face recognition function be turned off? It seems to be running most of the time and I was wondering if it could be slowing the processes down. All pictures have been imported in their current (Lightroom based) location.

Faces does require a large overhead - you can disable it in the first tab of the preferences. You may also want to consider changing the prefs for "previews" - turn off "automatically generate previews" and set the preview size to something like quality 6 and set the pixel size to be approxiamately the size of your largest monitor's resolution.

Mac time freezes and not updating

After upgrading to osx yosemeti the mac time freezes frequently and not updating...I have to manually everytime to see the current time..

System Preferences/Date & Time/Date & Time - is it set to Set date and Time automatically? If so, try the following.
Do a backup.
Quit the application.
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Utilities/Terminal.
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

Aperture 2.0 and library sharing

I am wondering if there is a feature like that seen in iPhoto for sharing
your library amongst networked computers allowing access to photos on your desktop from your laptop. I am often putting presentations together and working on my laptop but need photos that reside on the desktop in my office. The new iPhoto Sharing feature allows for this and I am wondering if there is something similar in Aperture 2.0.

I think it is 2 different things you are asking.
Watbat wants to access photos (actually just previews) from a remote Aperture library the same way, he can access a remote iPhoto library. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be possible so far, at least not with Apple software. I think too, Apple should address this. In general the media browser of one Mac should be available on all Macs within a network. I'd be happy to be told, that I'm wrong, so anybody who knows a trick, please share with us.
The only thirdparty app being able to do this seems to be PHPture, but it is unclear, whether it works with Aperture 2. And it is browser based, which some don't like.
What you ask, is to open and work with the same Aperture library from different Macs. I think, this should be possible already. Didn't try this with time capsule, but it is no problem, to open the Aperture library sitting on my MacBook from my G5 Quad and work with it by simply dragging the mounted library onto the Aperture icon. As time capsule is nothing more than a network share, I expect, that it works too. The only danger is, if you try to access the library simultaneously from two or more MACs. I think Aperture is blocking this. If not, you might end up with corrupted database..

WHY DOES APERTURE KEEP FREEZING AND CRASHING?

I can't work on more than 3 or 4 images before Aperture either freezes up or it crashes….What is going on? Would it be helpful to uninstall it and reinstall?

Since I updated to mozilla 4 my internet continually freezes and I have to force it to quit. I tried taking it back to the previous version, but it is not the same anymore

I am using an earlier version now only because there were so many problems with version 4. I wish I had not upgraded in the first place as where I used to like it the most I now find it exasperating and go to Google or safari after having to quit 3 or 4 times

there is no way to go bacl to ios 6. have you tried restoring your phone?

Facebook freezing and froze updating apps

ive jsut updated to IOS 6 on my iphone 3GS and when trying to sign in to facebook via the settings it says veryfying and it just freezes. i can press the home button and close settings and when i reopen settings it returns back to the frozen facebook log in. is there a workaround to this or am i to not use the one thing i was looking forward to using in the new IOS.
Also half my apps had updates so i selected to upadte all and there just stuck all of them say waiting and have been for 20 ish hours since the update.

Exactly the same happen to me..iPad 2 trying to configure Facebook account in settings always freezes.... Any help?

Aperture Backup Vault and Library

My main Library of Aperture on my main HD is 120GB and my backup Vault on my external HD is 116GB. Do I want to "replace the contents of my Vault with the contents of my Library"? Unfortunately I also have on my external HD another another OS with a tiny library that is tiny 2 GB, how do I know which library Aperture is talking about? In the Aperture GUI my Vault show only 22GB. Confused, please help. No libraries show up on my GUI Aperture window so what should I do? and why don't the vaults match in size?

Every Image has a Master. The Master is the file that you imported into the Library. If the Master is stored in the Library, it is a Managed Master. If the Master is not stored in the Library -- it is stored elsewhere on your system -- it is a Referenced Master.
You can easily filter for either. In the Filter HUD, add the Rule "File Status" and select "Managed" or "Referenced" from the drop-down settings.
(Added the following paragraph.)
Thus to find all Images which have Managed Masters, use the above filter on your "Photos" container at the top of the Library tab of the Inspector. To convert them to having Referenced Masters, select them all and execute "File→Relocate Masters".
New Masters created by Aperture when you use the "Edit with {External Editor}" command or the "Edit with Plug-in" command should be stored in whatever Finder folder holds the Master of the Image. IOW, when Images with Referenced Masters are edited with the external editor or a plug-in, the new Master should also be Referenced, and should be located in the same Finder folder as the Master of the Image that was selected for editing. Is your system behaving differently? This is easily checked by using either of the commands and then using "{right click}→Show in Finder".

Premiere Pro 2014 is crashing and freezing and I have to use force quit to get it to shut down.

Premiere Pro 2014 is crashing every day. i am running Premiere Pro 2014 on a 2013 imac with 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with 16 GB RAM. Playback on premiere continually freezes and the program crashes. Or the playback will start to freeze and then I save and close the project file/program, but the program will not close and I have to force quit. This is extremely frustrating. Premiere Pro CC was super stable and I rarely if ever had a problem. I have changed my permissions to give myself read/write. I have created a new project file in 2014 and then imported all my sequences from my updated project file but none of these strategies have worked. I am considering creating a new project file and going back to working solely in CC because I am on a deadline and troubleshooting this issue is taking up so much time.

I have had to force quit PP CC four times today. The fourth was when it crashed while trying to reopen it. I have had exactly the same problems as described above. I have no solutions to offer. I will go through a week of constant Premiere Pro bugs and poor performance then experience a period that seems too good to be true only to end up having a day like today. I can't believe that they call this a professional editing suite. It just wastes so much of my time pissing around trying to fix things and managing all the extra render and preview files it makes each time I have to save a new copy of a project which usually results in renaming it. It gets confusing after a while. Really not happy with this and have begun to learn Avid so as soon as this project is done, PP will be history.

ITunes loads but hangs during library update

Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and, like everyone else, I'm having difficulties.
The program opens correctly. However, when it begins to update my library automatically, it completes about 85% of the update and then hangs ... and hangs ... and hangs some more.
After the program freezes and ceases updating the library, the computer comes to a virtual halt and I have to shut it down manually.
I've reinstalled quicktime, but I'm not certain that has anything to do with this problem.
Any thoughts?

I've been using Vista with iTunes just fine, even before Apple came out with a "compatible" version. This happened to me upon upgrading to 7.3.1.3. Searching the web I've seen lots of posts from people having this on XP and Mac a couple of years ago. I don't think this is a new problem with Vista.
I tried unistalling the latest version, and going back to 7.2...but it still locked up during library conversion. I did do an experiment where I copied my iTunes directory somewhere else, reinstalled iTunes 7.3, and it opened up fine as a "new" computer. I reversed the process and the problem came back. Right now it looks like the only way to recover is to rebuild my library on a new iTunes install, which is a pain.

Ipod continually freezes.

my 5th generation ipod continually freezes and won't be recoginzed by my computer, i reset it and it freezes on the apple logo. If i wait 15 minutes for it to unfreeze itself it takes me to the language selector menu. It erased all my music already. I don't know what to do. There is an apple store about an hour from here, im thinking of taking it in if no one can help me. I've tried to do the 5 Rs but it wont connect to the computer and thus i can't reinstall the ipod software. HELP PLEASE!

You say you've updated it, but have you restored the software?
If so, then I think it has to go back to Apple...

Copying Hard Drive and Library

If I have one external hard drive -- with all my Aperture Export projects and Library copied on to it, and then decided to back THIS hard drive up onto another hard drive, will my projects and library copy and be functional on the second one?
I'm concerned if it wasn't copied straight from Aperture whether it will be functional.

They'll be all functional, the Library is in fact a folder (you can see its content by Ctrl+click on it and select Show package content)
If you want to test the Library backup just go to Aperture's preferences and select the new Library location.
If you use Vault instead of a full Library backup, you'll save some space (thumnails aren't copied) but will loose some speed while recovering from backup (thumnails would need to be created again)

Pavilion keeps freezing and restarting after 5 minutes of use

According to the message you have posted I suspect there could be a hardware issue on your Notebook
It could be possible that the Hard Drive might have bad sectors or Memory Module on the Notebook could be corrupted
Please perform the Steps as shown below:-
1. Please "Turn OFF" the Notebook
2. "Power ON" the Notebook and keep tapping the Escape Key during the start up to enter the Start-up Menu
3. Now here, Please select the BIOS option [F10] and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab
4. You should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Disk Drive and Memory
Note: Please perform these two tests and post back with the details of any error messages

Tip for Data Backup:
Remove the HDD and install it in a USB HDD Enclosure. You can then plug it into a USB port of a working machine. If there is any life left in the drive you should be able to browse it and copy files off to HDD of host machine

Itunes continually freezes - Running Windows 7 Ultimate

Can anyone assist - my iTunes continually freezes and I have to end the process and try again. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't.
My PC is a Corei7, 12 GB ram running 64 Bit Windows 7 Ultimate
This is extremely frustrating - my prior PC's running both XP and Vista had similar issues

If you had similar problems on other PCs, it makes me wonder if you have software in common that does not play nice with iTunes.

How do I just remove the current update to 3.6.12 and go back to an earlier version as I can not take the continual freeze ups ever few mins.? If this continues I will remove Firefox totally and switch to another browser I can not take this anymore.

I can NOT take the continual freeze ups of my entire browser even worse when updating a page let alone just opening email. I closed the browser and have had to use even just microsoft or Google since this Firefox has gotten so horrible...
I clear my history and my cache so many times a day I can not keep track anymore and that is insane to have to do it as many times as I am even worse that it does not help in the least!
I have used Firefox for years now but if I have to remove it and switch to a different one by the days end I will and I will post in Facebook to all my friends who I had switch to Firefox what and why though some have already just switched to other browsers.

First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion. To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4. What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content. Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems. You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults. A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install. If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive.

I have been using aurora and updated to 12.0a2 and my computer continually freezes even after disabling all plug-ins and i have even dumped stuff from the memory on my hard drive.

i continually get the same 12.0a2 update box that pops up in the bottom right corner even though i have the updated version and i have to wait for the aurora updater to do something everytime i start a new session. i went through and disabled all plug-ins and have no extensions active and this doesn't solve the problem. according to plug-in check all plug-ins are up to date. aurora does crash every once in a while where it closes out all my windows...but i do not get the crash report anymore to report it. is there a problem with aurora? i even updated FF in case that had a factor in the crashes/freezes!! FF used to do this same thing all the timea fter a new update but this is ridiculous!! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? typos courtesy of freezing!!!is there a problem with aurora? i can't go more than 2 minutes without constant freezing and the "not responding" message. i have run scans on my computer weekly since i updated to aurora and there is no threats/problems...why does this keep happening?
addendum...i have added the crash reports for the last week...does that give any insight into why this keeps happening?

i am not sure what this means? "not for public use"? i did not seek out another version of FF it was an option on mozilla's page when i needed to update FF!! i know that i will run into these problems if i do not keep current and it was an option so i chose it. are you suggesting that i dump aurora from my system and go back to using just FF? i'm not a developer or know anything deep regarding the physical or logical of systems...i am just trying to keep good maintenance on my system!! i need a browser that works with me and not against me...chrome does not do what i need...neither does opera...FF is the only browser that i have used for almost 4 years now and i don't plan on going back to IE or changing to those mentioned above...i just want to know that when i see new offerings on mozilla products and i accept them into my system that they work much better than what i am experiencing currently!! i get that it is open-sourced and therefore a work in progress
