Aperture 3 - Uploads to Flickr and MobileMe

I've been using Aperture 3 on my nearly new iMac for almost a week. I decided to upload some photos to MobileMe and Flickr. The photos upload without problem and appear in the galleries in both cases. Its once the uploading is complete that the trouble starts.
The icon next to the gallery name continues to spin with the circular arrows and the whole system gradually slows down until it becomes virtually unresponsive. Only once I force quit Aperture does the computer become useable again.
This happens each time photos are uploaded to MobileMe or Flickr.

The login info is stored in your keychain. Deleting it from the keychain is what you want.
Open the Keychain Access application. In the search bar at the top type "flickr". When I did this there were two entries that had Aperture in the name. I deleted them both and now Flickr is no longer automatically logging in within Aperture.

  • Aperture 3: Watermarks with Facebook, Flickr, and MobileMe

I am pleased that Apple has released Aperture 3. I have not had the chance to download the 30-day trial or play with it in an Apple store yet. For those of you who have, do you know if Apple has enabled (visible) watermarking as part of the sharing on Facebook, Flickr, and MobileMe? I don't post images without visible watermarks to the Internet without one.
What I currently do with Aperture 2.x is export the images (as .jpg) into a folder adding a watermark as part of the export preset, then import them back into Aperture and then post to MobileMe, Facebook, or Flickr. I am hoping that Aperture 3 eliminates the need for these extra steps.
If it doesn't have this ability, does anyone do anything similar that might be more streamlined?

Thank you folks for your suggestions. I just purchased Aperture 3 and needed to create a watermark. I was able to accomplish this using the steps below.
    1. Scan the watermark into the computer or create it with an editing application. (I scanned my signature into my computer and saved it as a jpg. If you are worried about someone having your signature you may want to use a printed watermark.)
    2. Open the scanned image in a photo editing application. (I used Photoshop even though I am very uncomfortable with its complexity.)
    3. Adjust the size of the image using the," Image Size", tool under "Image" column in the Menu. (Do not use the Canvas Size tool. It did not work for me.)
    4. Place the Layers palette on the desktop by selecting, "Layers" in the Window column at the end of the Menu.
    5. Double click on the background icon in the Layers palette to open a new layer. It should be Layer 0.
    6. Click, "OK".
    7. Next select the Magic Wand in the tools palette and touch the background of the image. Click on the background to select the background. Click delete to make the the background disappear. The watermark should remain without the background.
    8. If there are any areas enclosed in a loop, like a zero or, "O", take the magic wand and select the enclosed area to highlight it. Remove this area with the delete button. You can put the copyright mark on the image if you like by typing it next to your watermark.
    9. Go to, "Save As", and save the image as a psd file where you can find it.
    10. Quit the application and open Aperture and go to the preference folder for Aperture.
    11. Select the Export icon and activate the, "Email photo export", preset button.
    12. Select edit and go to, "Choose Image", to select your watermark with the transparent background.
    13. Select a new preset on the right and name your new watermark.
    14. The new watermark will appear in the, "Email photo export" options.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe are now solved?

I am still on with Aperture 2.1.4 and have just had trouble with creating a new MobileMe gallery again, as Aperture remarks after it has uploaded the previews and made the gallery - til there is all fine - it could not communicate with MobileMe. This comes further if I like to made some changes to the gallery within Aperture and try to sync them - nothing happens, only the error comes up. This bug is til I upgraded my system to SL and Aperture 2.1.4. Any idea? Does Aperture 3 still has this bug or is it solved?

Okay ... further to my original note ... has anyone seen this?
Using Aperture 3 and MobileMe ... do you need to create unique passwords for each album?
(that seemed to fix the generic password on multiple albums)
No I have not seen this kind of problem, and no you shouldn't need unique passwords for each album.
I have specific groups that I regularly share sets of albums with. When I create a new MobileMe album, I specify which group has access (or limit the access later via the Aperture-MobileMe album settings). I established the group name (and password) once. For subsequent albums I just specify that group. If I use the Tell A Friend... option to announce a new album, it will share the group/username and password.
IF I enable uploading additional photos via e-mail, that does create a unique/generic e-mail address for each album -- has to as you want any photos to upload to THAT album.
I know this answers your question, but quite likely does not provide a solution. If you can be more specific as to EXACTLY what steps you are taking I might be able to replicate your process and offer a specific solution. Hopefully the pieces I've offered may help you find a solution though?
    Best wishes!

  • Aperture 3.6 Uploads to Flickr only at 72 dpi, not 300 dpi. Why?

Yesterday I upgraded to the new retina iMac (Yosemite 10.10) and updated Aperture to 3.6.  (Previous iMac had not been updated with Yosemite.)
With previous setup, I was uploading to Flickr albums at 300 dpi.
With new setup, photos upload at 72 dpi, including files that previously uploaded at 300 dpi.
I've tried Preferences > Export > External Editor File Format > 300 dpi.
I've also done Presets > Image Exports > changed all formats/sizes to 300 dpi.
FWIW, I can export from Aperture into Lightroom and upload to Flickr from there at 240 dpi.
    My question:
What setting am I missing in Aperture 3.6 so that photos upload to Flickr albums at 300 dpi again?

You should look at this thread Problem with Aperture 3.6 preset exports.
Seems Aperture has changed something since 3.6 that might be causing what you are seeing. The way Aperture is setting the JFIF x and y density settings has changed and they do not reflect the true DPI set on the file.
Don;t know if Flickr looks at those, something to keep in mind.
    regards
    <edit>
FWIW, I can export from Aperture into Lightroom and upload to Flickr from there at 240 dpi.
did you change the dpi setting in Lightroom?  You should look the the image in Preview BEFORE you import into Lightroom. Look at the JFIF settings. Then look again AFTER you export from Lightroom. Did the JFIF settings change?

  • Can't upload to flickr from Aperture 3.5.1

I've just recently tried to upload to Flickr from Aperture 3.5.1 and am getting an error message:
"Aperture is no longer authorized to use the Flickr account "Michael Meyers" Do you want to set up publishing to this account again?"
I then click on the "set-up" button and am taken through to Safari to login to Flickr. I can do that successfully but then get a message saying "Oops! Flickr can't find a valid callback URL."
So it looks like there is no way for me to export from Aperture to Flickr.
This might have something to do with the Flickr API changing to use SSL only but I can't really be sure since the error messages aren't that descriptive.
    Any ideas?

Check, if the "Primary Only" flag is active. If yes, disable it.
With this flag active, only the primary image will be effected by edits.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe Galleries created in iPhoto

I wanted to post this to hopefully help someone else should they run into the same thing.
I recently upgraded from point and shoot camera's to a higher quality camera, so I also decided that it was time to upgrade from iPhoto to something better.  I decided on Aperture as I am not quite ready to commit to the expense and time to learn something as complex as Photoshop.
Well, the first time I opened Aperture and told it to import my iPhoto library, it worked without any difficulty.  But, I noticed something was missing.  My MobileMe galleries where not displayed in the inspector window for Aperture.  I could not for the life of me, figure out how to get them to show up in there either.
I went to the Apple store and talked to some Aperture users there and no one could seem to tell me how to fix this.  It was even more frustrating because all of my photo albums from FaceBook came up in Aperture just fine.
Finally in a last ditch, hail mary pass, of an idea, I went to the web UI for my MobileMe galleries.  I figured that maybe if I edited something about those galleries, they would then show up in Aperture.
Well, I went into the properties for one of the galleries that I was not seeing in Aperture, and low and behold, there in the properties was an option to choose what application that gallery would sync to.  The only options are iPhoto or Aperture, so I changed each gallery to show Aperture as the chosen app to sync with.
Finally they now show in Aperture, of course, as you might expect, they no longer show in iPhoto.
I have no idea why the Import process does not warn you about this, and / or offer to change them for you, but it was very frustrating.
If this can help someone else new to Aperture to avoid this frustration, then I am glad.

Thanks Richard, very helpful. I wondered why I couldn't see my old mobileme galleries in Aperture.
I have swapped between iPhoto '09, Aperture 3, iPhoto '11 and now back to Aperture. Whilst I love the ease of use and relative speed of iPhoto, Aperture's adjustments and masters/versions handling has the edge for me now that my masters collection is too big for my MBP. And with a clean install of Lion my machine now seems more responsive than it has been for a while.
Changing the setting of each gallery is a bit dull, is there a global 'manage mobile me galleries with iPhoto/Aperture' setting anywhere?

  • Aperture, iPhoto, and MobileMe

I use Aperture on my iMac. My wife uses iPhoto on her iMac and doesn't have Aperture. She has published a mobileme album to a gallery we share on one mobileme account. Is there a way to sync the mobileme gallery with Aperture on my computer and iphoto on her computer or do I have to sync to iPhoto on both? I was only able to find a setting in MobileMe to choose either iPhoto or Aperture. Thanks in advance for any help.

You might want to take this to the Mobile me forum (if there is one) as it seems its not really related to Aperture itself but more to how Mobile operates.
    good luck,

  • Aperture Facebook Uploader: Both Master and Version

I've searched the forums and see that others had this problem fixed with 3.1.1; but I'm running 3.1.2 and if I edit, crop and otherwise enhance and make a new version and make that version the stack pick, the uploader insists on uploading both (or multiple) master and versions to Facebook. I have to de-stack the images and delete from facebook, and this then reflects in my project/album.
What the heck? I should be able to upload one version. And if I choose to delete and unstack, why does it reflect in the master database?

I don't think Facebook is retaining all the Metadata from images uploaded by any means. However, it's definitely retaining the Version Name - And this is what serves as the caption for the photo in the photo album on Facebook.
Since updating Aperture to 3.1.1, I no longer get the entire 'stack' or multiple versions of the image uploaded. So the software update for Aperture HAS fixed this issue.
However, I have now noticed another issue since starting to use the Aperture uploader. I have about 10 albums/galleries on Facebook. All of these were created prior to the Aperture 3.0 release with the integrated Facebook uploader.
Now when I upload an image and subsequently Aperture accesses my Facebook photo albums, it begins to sync these photos and albums. The Facebook directory that you can see at the bottom of the Library now lists those albums that exist on Facebook and begins to sync those photos. However, when I browse photos by 'date' all those Facebook photos from those albums appear in my Library with the date listed as the date I first viewed them.
So if I click on one of the Facebook albums in Aperture, let Aperture go through its sync process, then review library "photos" and sort by date, all the Facebook photos I have looked at appear as the most current photos.
this is not a good thing because I have Albums, Projects etc. that are sync'd with iPhone or Apple TV that include date filters (projects in last month, photos last week etc.) Now all these legacy Facebook photos are appearing on these other devices.

  • Changes applied and MobileMe Gallery

After uploading a gallery to MobileMe I changed some picture's settings (exposure an such) within Aperture. I expected Aperture to upload the new versions with the next MobielMe Gallery sync.
But it won't. What am I doing wrong?

Have you refreshed your browser? Maybe you need to clear your cache and reload the page.
Does both the visitor and owner pages show the old versions of the pictures?
You could create a duplicate version of the images and add those to the MobileMe album. Then. delete the old version and sync the album.

  • Upload to Flickr but not Facebook

When I upload to Flickr, my preferred home for photos, the same files appear in Facebook. Is there a a way to upload to Flickr only, but selectively upload to Facebook?

    Hello Pete,
You do not have to post to both Facebook and Flickr at the same time.  I found some steps to just post your photos to a Flickr album without posting to your Facebook account:
To create a new Flickr album to publish as a Flickr set
    1. Do one of the following:
In the Library inspector, select an item.
In the Browser, select a group of photos.
    2. Do one of the following:
Choose File > Share > Flickr.
Choose Flickr from the Share pop-up menu in the toolbar.
    3. In the dialog that appears, do the following:
If you have multiple Flickr accounts, choose the Flickr account you want to publish to from the Flickr Account pop-up menu.
Choose New Set from the Set pop-up menu.
In the Set Name field, give your Flickr set a name.
In the “Photos Viewable by” pop-up menu, choose an access level to set who can view your Flickr set.
In the Photo Size pop-up menu, choose an image size option.
    4. Click Publish.
You can find the steps under the section titled "To create a new Flickr album to publish as a Flickr set" in the following link:

  • Can no longer upload to Flickr  -- any ideas?

iPhoto 11 (9.1.3) no longer uploads to Flickr. I get all the way to "upload" and then it does nothing. Tried restarting both the program and the whole computer to no avail. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

    Oops, that's "publish" not upload.

  • Lightroom 5.2\5.3 crashing after two uploads to flickr

    Hi all,
After getting a bit of a nagging from the in laws I got round to cataloguing the last few months photos to upload the pics of the kids.
When I go to upload to flickr it will publish two images then crash and the cycle repeats - having a few hundreds to upload there is no way on earth I'm going to babysit Lightroom while it does this.
I'm using jFlickr and have the most up to date version - although I was reluctant to mention this as I half suspect my issue will now be shelved using this as a get out - but frankly Adobe's offering is poor and presumes you've just started with Flickr.
The OS is Windows 8.1 64bit - LR 5.3 (same results on 5.1 and 5.2)
From the event logs I have the following errors:
    Faulting process ID: 0x1b04

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.2\CameraRaw.dll
It them repeats through one of these three for each failure.
Thanks for reading and I hope someone out there has found a solution.

    Any ideas anyone?
Jeff suggested checking the integrity or a re-install - I have completely rebuilt the PC - so clean install plus totally up to date versions - I also check integrity when I backup and it always passes, in addition I cleared the prefs file (again Jeff's idea) but it still crashes, but only with his plugin.
Is there a way to rebuild the catalogue without loosing the settings?
Could it be because I recently converted to DNG?

  • IWeb and MobileMe Gallery

I am trying to upload pictures from the MobileMe Gallery.  I have albums published but when I move the MobileMe widget to the web page I am creating it reads "No albums or movies". Please help.

I've jumpstarted the MMe widget with the following 2 fixes before:
    Try this:
    quit iWeb
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.
Ahother method that worked one time was:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
HOWEVER, a way to embed your MMe gallery and not worry about fixes is to go online and get the URL of your MMe gallery and plug it into the following code in an HTML snippet:
    <script src="http://gallery.mac.com/g/flash/photowidget_iefix.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    writeObj("http://gallery.me.com/MobileMeName/XXXXXX", 226, 199);
    </script>
Thanks to Wyodor for the code.

  • Galleries and MobileMe

Using Aperture to publish galleries to MobileMe I have noticed when a file is downloaded from the internet, it shows Adobe RGB (1998) for the profile name. Is there a way to change that to sRGB IEC61966-2.1?
I can't seem to find a preference that would do this.
    Thank you for your help!
    MB

    Richard,
This is expected behavior when using Stacks. The purpose of a stack is to stack groups several images of which you only intend to use one, known as the pick.
One solution to allow you to keep your stacks but use all the images in MobileMe Gallery, is to create a Smart Album within the project and use this Smart Album for your MobileMe Gallery.
Smart Albums you create offer the option Ignore stack groupings by unchecking the "Include stack picks only" from the Smart Album criterion. If this option is deselected (the default for a Smart Album), then all images that meet the criteria for the Smart Album will be available in the Media pane, regardless of stack pick status.
See: Working with Stacks - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2940
See: "Handling of Stacked Images" in Tips on Sharing with iLife - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1056
    Hope this helps
