Aperture does not import Nikon JPG files when RAW and JPG

I own a Nikon D2x that I download files to a Sony 40GB portable HD. When I shoot in RAW + JPG only the RAW file is imported when I connect the Sony HD to my Mac and import to Aperture.
If I open the Sony disk Icon on the Desktop, I can see both the RAW and the JPG. In fact I can finder copy both files to the Desktop with no problem.
Even when I connect the camera itself, the jpg files are not imported.
This makes me think I should just shoot in RAW and save the space on the memory card.
Why does Aperture not import the JPG files?

it does import them ... but only displays the RAW file ... if you drill down into the library package you will see them ...
here are threads dealiing with same issue ...

After reassembled all the programs to a new hard drive in Mac Pro, Aperture does not import certain files with .jpg -photos. Earlier it has succeeded. Changing the photo location does not help. Nor importing as projects. Files are visible when asking to import but the thumbs are not seen on Aperture window.

, I see only the file, where these photos are, not the photo names or thumbs inside the file (Aperture import path).
You mean in the Aperture Import panel the folder, where the jpegs should be, is empty?
Then you may have excluded jpegs from import in your "Import Settings".
Check the above settings in the "Import Settings" options in the "Import Window". I.e-make sure the Raw+Jpeg Pairs option is set to "Both", even if you do not import raws.

Is this new Harddrive your system volume? And are the jpegs you wat to import located on this drive? Or are the on another external volume? If yes, how is this volume formatted?
Have you checked the permissions and ownership of the jpegs?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Aperture Does Not Import Videos using IMPORT FOLDER AS PROJECTS

SOLVED - Aperture 3.2.1 does not import videos using "Import Folder as Project"
After 2 days of trying to figure this out (actually around 2 hours total) I've finally managed to import all my photos & videos last year. 200 Gigs 54,000 files. First few tries resulted with referenced photos only, no videos. I had no luck with Google, even tried moving a couple of .plist as mentioned from this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11188017?messageID=11188017#11188017 - this worked for some but not for me. Some issues were solved by NOT selecting "Raw Only", this will cause Aperture to skip your videos.
Thank you to these people who took time to share. In return I am posting my micro contribution to the Aperture Community. FILE > SWITCH TO LIBRARY > then create a new library. You should be able to import your photos with videos in folders.
I hope this gets into Google soon. :-)

  • Aperture 3.1.1 does not import Nikon RAW files from Nikon Coolpix P7000

    Hi,
I'm running Aperture 3.1.1. The problem is that it will not display Nikon RAW (NRW) files from the Coolpix P7000.
Recently, a compatibility update was published for the Coolpix P7000 and other cameras. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1339?viewlocale=en_US
When I load the update however, the installer tells me that "this update is only for Iphoto 11 and Aperture 3" which is a bit odd , since I have Aperture 3 ?!
    Can anyone help please ?
    Kind Regards
    Andreas

Do you have Aperture installed in the Applications folder as Aperture (not Aperture3 or anything like that)?

  • Aperture does not import all files in folder.

I have a folder with 3460 images.  They are a combination of NEF, TIF, and PSD and xmp files.
When it was finished importing it said it had imported the 3460 images; however, there are only 3278 images showing.
I tried starting a new library, and importing the same folder again.  Again, I got 3278 images.
If I use the Finder and go to the folder, it shows 3496 files; however, 36 of those are .xmp files.
Any idea how I can check to see which files are not importing?  Or what I can do to get these 182 files in Aperture?
    Many thanks for any help.

Could be just chasing a ghost, but at least we'll know we don't have to capture it.  Let's do two things to determine how many Images Aperture thinks are in the Library.
    1.)
Select the container "Photos" listed near the top of the Library Inspector.
Clear the filter.  (In Browser view, click the magnifying glass icon _inside_ the search field, and select "Show all" from the dropdown menu.)
Deselect all.  ("Edit ▹ Deselect All".)
Expand all Stacks.  ("Stacks ▹ Open all Stacks".)
What does Aperture report in the bottom border of the Browser?  Should be something like "1234 items displayed".
    2.)
    Close Aperture.
"{option}+{click}" the Aperture Dock icon.  (Hold {option} down until the dialog shows up.)
Select your Library from the list.
What does Aperture report below the list of Libraries (you may have only one Library in the list)?  Should be something like "1234 versions, 1234 originals".

  • HELP FAST! Need to go to my wedding-Lightroom 4 does not recognize Nikon D800 files

I try to import my d800 nef files and Lightroom does not recognize them and will not import.  I looked on the site and it SAYS it supports them but nothing. I looked for a raw plugin but when I clicked the link it would not go anywhere.  HELP! I don't want to shoot my wedding with this camera if LR can't support it and I have to return it to the camera store FAST if not.

    Nidhaal Halid wrote:
Nikon D 800 is supported in the latest realease of camera raw. Make sure that you update the software to the latest version or download and install the latest version of Camera Raw 6.7 from the Adobe website.
But the question is about Lightroom. And Lightroom doesn't use any version of ACR. Lightroom 4 is somewhat compatible with ACR 6.7, and fully compatible with ACR 7.x. ACR 6.7 will read Lightroom 4 adjustments when an image is transferred to Photoshop, but it will not provide access to process 2012 sliders in ACR.

  • WSDL import does not import my schema file

I have a local WSDL that imports a schema. When I create a new partner link, I get the dialogue box that tells me it has to make a local copy. It makes the local copy. It still refers to my schema import (which has a relative path) but it does not move the schema as well.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
    Thanks,
    Greg

This is not exactly the behavior I am seeing.
This is what I see: Lets say that I have a WSDL file that resides in c:\mywsdls\pp-wsif.wsdl. It has an import statement in my wsdl for the schema types that is relative (../schema/schema.xsd). Lets also assume that my BPEL process project resides in c:\<BPEL_HOME>\mywork\bpelproj.
When I go to create a partner link using my local wsdl file, two wsdl files show up in my BPEL project. One is an exact copy of pp-wisf.wsdl and one is the pp-wisfRef.wsdl. The pp-wisfRef.wsdl has the partner link stuff and it also references the wsdl in c:\<BPEL_HOME>\mywork\bpelproj, not my original wsdl.
Now is when my problem comes up. the "new" pp-wisf.wsdl file still has that import with a relative path. But, since the wsdl file got moved and the xsd did not that relative path is no longer valid. Thus, my origial problem.
There is an obvious work around to edit my wsdls to fix the paths but I am wondorering if I am doing something wrong or if this is in fact a bug.

  • Aperture does not import Aperture library

I am trying to import several Aperture Libraries created in Aperture on one computer (MacBook Pro) into an existing "Main" Library on a second computer (iMac). After being created on the MacBook Pro, the Libraries are Finder-copied to the iMac's desktop.
When I choose File->Import->Library ... then select a Library on my desktop to import into the opened Aperture Library, a progress window opens and it looks like all is well. Unfortunatly, it is not well as when the import is done, the pictures do not show up anywhere.
I have tried to use the menu method (above) and I have tried to drag Libraries to the "Projects" area in the side-bar hoping a new Project would be created with the imported Library pictures in it. Either way there is a progress window that opens and it looks like the library has been imported. If I have the Projects Viewer opened, it even looks like something happens as the thumbnails jump somewhat. Here again, no pictures are imported or no new Projet created with the library pictures in it.
When I check the total number of pictures in the main Library, the number has not changed from before the import. No new Projects are created, either.
I know there may be an issue with duplicates, but I have purposely imported a Library that I know are not duplicates and these are not imported either.
    Thanks for any help here.
    Aperture 3.5.1

In some situations the import of libraries will not work, for example, if the library to be imported is an older version of the same library you are attempting to import it to.  In that case it often will help, to create a new library from the library to be imported (to fool Aperture), by creating a new, empty library and importing the second library into the new library.
Now try again to import the new, converted library into your main library.
Also it will help, to repair all libraries before trying to merge them.  (Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual)

  • Aperture does not import iPhoto movie Title and Description?

I recently imported a 16,000 image iPhoto Library to Aperture including 270 movies.
There were some problems with the import. An older camera's movies cannot be shown in Aperture and lack thumbnails -- though they can play (for now) externally in QuickTime player. Many other movies lacked thumbnails, but Aperture added them with the Generate Thumbnail command.
These are annoying glitches, but I had a more serious problem with Aperture's iPhoto import of Movies. None of the Titles or Descriptions were imported into Aperture.
    Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks! I've thought about this a bit more, and what the bug is.
I think it's an oddly simple bug -- maybe a hurried hack as Aperture 3.x was going to market and the responsible engineers discovered they were missing a key feature. They may have "stolen" the "set Version Name to Master Filename" function and, for iPhoto import, quietly made it "set Version Name to iPhoto Title" -- without revising their documentation or the UI.
Here's what I wrote up on my blog. I'll try to file a bug report against Aperture on this. I'll mark this post as answering my question
    http://tech.kateva.org/2012/03/iphoto-8-to-aperture-3-migration-notes.html
Aperture handling of iPhoto Title data depends, mysteriously, on the iPhoto Version Name import setting that Apple documents as: "... choose Master Filename from the Version Name pop-up menu to have your files stored using the current master filenames from your camera or card". (Since we're importing from iPhoto, and not a camera or card, this documentation is misleading.)
In reality, during iPhoto import, setting Version Name = Master Filename does nothing of the sort. Instead, this is what happens:
The filename is equal to the filename used in iPhoto
Aperture.Version name is set equal to the iPhoto Title.
I don't know what Aperture would do if we set Version Name = a Custom name where one of the custom name components was "Master Filename". Would it still treat iPhoto.Title as "Master Filename"?
I think there are two bugs here. I think Aperture "Version Name=Master Filename" was supposed to set Aperture.Version to the file name, and that there was supposed to be ANOTHER drop down (and a custom name tag) that of the form "Version Name=iPhoto Title"

  • Lightoom 5.7 not importing ALL jpeg files when importing

Hello, I am repeatedly having issues with Lightroom 5.7 64 bit on Win 7 computer on the import option from a file on hard drive. The file has 40 pictures, mostly all jpeg...and after the import - add function, only about 20 are imported. I have tried this multiple times and it still happens. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is an option in the Lightroom preferences to treat JPEG's next to raw images as separate images. If that option isn't checked, and some of your images are raw files, the raw files will be imported but the JPEG images will not. So check to make sure you have that option activated.

  • Bridge CC does not have Nikon .NEF file association to set

When I open preferences and go to File Association settings, the extention for Nikon Raw .NEF is not there. It's a pain having to right click the thumbnail everytime I want to open it Photoshop CC.  I do have Photoshop CS6 and it defaults to that in the context menu when I right click.  How do I change that. I am on a MAC using OS X  Mavericks.

JPGs use lossy compression so some pixels aren’t exactly the same anymore; however, if you use the highest or close to highest quality setting in LR during Export it will be hard to tell any difference.
JPGs are compressed by contain 3 colors per pixel whereas raw files (NEFs in your case) usually contain only one bit per pixel and are compressed in a way that makes them smaller but doesn’t lose any image data.
TIFs if not compressed are the width x height x 1 or 2 bytes per pixel x 3 colors-per-pixel so can be huge as you have seen.
If you shoot JPG and edit those in LR you still cannot see the LR edits in those original JPGs, only the camera rendering.

  • Photoshop CC will not import any video files when I try Video Frame to Layers and New Video Layer from File

Specifically I'm trying to import a .MOV I made in Quicktime. The file opens up everywhere else so it's not an issue with the file being corrupted. The error message I get from CC is
"Could not complete command _____________ because the video file could not be opened."
As far as I know I didn't save the .MOV with any permissions, but then again I have very limitted understanding of Quicktime. Originally the file was a .GIF that I converted to an .MOV because I wanted to edit the GIF using the video timeline instead of the animation timeline.
    Thanks for the help.
Also, as an aside since I know a lot of Adobe employees are on here, the animation timeline is pretty crummy, there should be a way that you can open a .GIF into the video timeline as a video layer.

Did the back and forth between PC and Mac file systems screw up my files somehow?
Yes. Unfortunately the move has almost certainly caused the loss of the resource data that would have been (invisibly) attached to those files.
By adding a specific .mov extension after the fact you will have helped the Mac correctly identify the file type / asscoiations but also significantly you will have physically changed the filename eg from "clip" to "clip.mov". This means that when you come to reconnect the media in FCP , then FCP will be looking for files that no longer exist at the given path eg when specifically looking for our example clip called "clip" of course it won't find it.
Try this as a test... first remove the ".mov" extension from one or more of the clips, select those clips and press Cmd-Opt-I to open an Info window for the selection. You'll see an "Open with:" popup and in that popup you should choose QuickTime Player (if its a Unix Executable then it will initially list Terminal as the appropriate app, you have to choose Other... then in the open dialog choose Enable > All Applications and then navigate to and select the Quicktime Player app as the appropriate app). After you've done that restart FCP and see if you can now reconnect to those clips.
