Aperture on more than one computer

I have recently received Aperture from Apple and am about to open and install it on my MacBooK Pro. I know that within the year I intend to buy an iMac. Will I be able to move the application from the one to the other , and if so what is involved, or will I be required to buy a new copy?

The Aperture license allows installation on 2 computers, but unfortunately Libraries cannot synch, a very serious limitation for those many photogs like me who use a laptop in the field plus a desktop in the office. Why Apple continues to fail miserably in this regard is beyond me. Apple's Filemaker databases have been able to synch since the 1980s, and iPhones synch just fine.
There are various workarounds, all lame to some degree. I suggest going to "Feedback" under the Aperture menu and requesting single-user 2-computer synch of 2 Libraries.
Note that although the app can be on two computers and you can even have two different Libraries, two versions of a single license copy cannot be open at the same time on a network.
P.S. For best performance max out the RAM on that MBP. Also manage image files with the Library on the internal drive but with image files as Referenced Masters stored on an external hard drive to avoid overfilling the MBP hard drive (which would slow performance). Below is a Referenced-Masters workflow:
• Remove the CF card from the camera and insert it into a CF card reader. Faster readers and cards are preferable.
• Finder-copy images from CF to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive. I label that folder with the Project name suffixed with _masters, that way I can easily find the Masters if Aperture forgets where they are.
• Eject CF.
• Burn backup copies of the original images to DVDs or to hard drives (recommended optional backup step).
• Eject backup DVDs/hard drives (optional backup step).
• From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location."
• Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing).
• Reformat CF in camera, and archive DVDs of originals off site.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media.
Also note with a Referenced-Masters Library that use of the "Vault" backup routine backs up the Library only. Masters are separately backed up.

  • Running Aperture on more than one computer

hi, can anyone tell me what the limit is for running a copy of Aperture on your macs. are you allowed to put aperture on your laptop and powermac or do you have to buy a copy for each? and does the same apply for things such as Tiger?
    thanks,
    Aidan

    Aidan,
Tiger/OSX is licensed to each individual machine. A single copy/license of Aperture can be loaded on your desktop and laptop but if they are networked, it will only run on one machine at a time.

  • Buying Aperture 3 App, can it be loaded onto more than one computer?

Thinking about getting the Aperture 3 app for my computer and was wondering if the app can be loaded to more than one computer; or do I need to buy the boxed version from the store?

From the App Store FAQ, "..Apps from the Mac App Store may be used on any Macs that you own or control for your personal use."
You would need to log into the App Store on each Mac using the same Apple ID that was used to originally purchase the Aperture from the App Store.

  • Can I install photoshop cs5 on more than one computer, if "owned" by a different user?

I want to install my recently purchased photoshop cs5 on my macbook, as well as my imac. The only thing I worry about is that the macbook is in my name and the imac is technically in my dad's name, even though he only uses it to surf the web. The only reason he even bought the imac as opposed to anything else is so that I'd have a great place to edit photos. I really need it to be on both, will this work? Anyone have experience with this?

May I use the software on more than one computer at a time?
The activation process supports installation on two machines. The Adobe product license agreement allows the primary user to install the product on a primary computer and also on a home or laptop computer for his or her use, provided that the two copies are not used simultaneously. While the activation process supports installing and activating Adobe software on two machines, the usage of the product on the second computer is restricted to the user who licensed the software. Allowing others to use a second copy of the software violates the product license agreement.

  • Can I load my Itune on more than one computer?

Can I have ITunes installed on more than one computer, and sync with I-Phone and IPAD2?  How do I keep the files the same on both computers?

you can authorize up to five computers you control for your iTunes store account.
you can use home sharing to keep the libraries on them in sync.
by design, iPhone and iPad can sync with only one library at a time.
however, you could consider Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod.

  • Can't use the iPod on more than one computer!!!!!!!

Ok, This has got me so frustrated! We got an iPod and installed iTunes. We thought we had it figured out - we purchased music from iTunes, played it on the iPod and everything was great. Then plugged the iPod into my other computer to listen to our music and it won't freakin' play! says the computer is "Not Authorized" and suggests that by 'authorizing' the 2nd computer, it will overwrite the songs that are already on the iPod. This is NOT desirable. We've downloaded and installed iTunes onto the 2nd computer and used the same login account that we used on the first computer.
What gives!?!?! I thought this was supposed to be easy, but it's not! I was hoping for a quick and simple "plug it in and start listening to music." This is definately not quick and simple. Albeit, I'm new to this iPod craze, but this shouldn't be so difficult. I've poked around on the website and cannot seem to find an answer to this.
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks
oh btw, Is anyone else getting annoyed by Apple's rediculous attempt at monopolizing this market by forcing us to use thier own proprietary software?!?!

First of all, any computer that plays purchased content must be authorized. This can be accomplished by opening iTunes, then store>authorize computer. If you wish to use your iPod on more than one computer & not have your iPod content erased, you will have to have your iPod preferences set on "manually manage". See the following link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61675
Also, it's not only Apple that uses proprietary software. How about Zune players, & several others?

    Hi, China6450.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend setting up Manually manage music.  This will only allow music to be synced from the computer to the iPod nano.  Here are some helpful articles that will walk you through the process.

    Thank you so much!

There are normally three options: License, buy or try. See image below.
Did you double click on the package in downloads to start the installation?

I use more than one computer to access my four business email accounts. When one computer is on (and mail is open) emails do not get through to the other computers. This is fine, but how do I make one of the other computers the dominant one?

I assume these are POP accounts and all computers are set to remove from Server after downloading.
So on the non dominant ones... Mail Preferences>Accounts, highlight an account, Advanced tab, uncheck remove from Server, just have the main dominant one remove from server.
    Or get/setup IMAP accounts.

  • Playing a track on more than one computer

    Hi all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to play an iTunes track on more than one computer (i.e., running iTunes) at a time? I have my main iTunes library downstairs, connected to an AirPort Express which is connected to my home surround system. While I'm playing a list through this setup, does anyone know if I can get another computer (Mac with iTunes 7.3)in my house to also be playing the tune at the same time (giving me the same music both upstairs and downstairs). I know I can play the track via a shared iTunes library (doing that now), but I want to have the track in synch as people move through the house. Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Bruce

  • How can I synchronize safely from more than one computer?

First, I have set up my iPod to work with two computers: my primary computer, which is my desktop at home. Later, I also "authorized" my laptop (as a secondary source) to also be able sync to my iPod.
My question is that when I go to synchronize some podcasts I just downloaded to my secondary computer (my laptop), I get the following prompt: "Are you sure you want to sync podcasts? All existing podcsts on the iPod '<my iPod's name>' will be replaced with podcasts from your iTunes library."
From this message, since my iPod is plugged into my laptop, I assume it's referring to my iTunes library on my laptop (which only has the few podcasts I just downloaded). And it sounds like it's going to delete the podcasts that are already on my iPod.
I definitely don't want it to "replace" the ones I already have sync'd from my home computer; +_I just want to add the ones I have downloaded to my laptop._+ How can I make it so I can safely add the new ones without disturbing those I already have sync'd and want to keep? I'm a bit confused about how syncing works when you have more than one computer to sync to the iPod.

You cannot do what you want.
The ipod touch can sync with ONE computer/library at a time.
When you sync to a different computer/library, the ipod touch will first delete the current itunes content form the iphone, then it will sync the content from the new computer.
This is the way it is designed.

  • Can you install logic express on more than one computer

can you install logic express on more than one computer ?

Be sure to read the End User Licensing Agreement for questions of this nature. You are allowed to install Logic on two computers that you own, for example an iMac and a MacBook Pro. You cannot, however, use the two computers at the same time if they are on the same network. You can use one computer as a Logic Node to shift some of the processing load (which you would likely do with an ethernet cable) but you don't need to have a full installation of Logic on the Node  machine, just the Logic Node installation. The idea of allowing two installations is so that you might take advantage of a portable  computer in the field for on-site recording then later transfer those files to a desktop studio set up for further editing.
