APIC setting in BIOS

Hi all,
Yesterday I posted a problem regarding low cpu performance, which is now solved. I checked my IRQ's and noticed 'Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System' was sharing IRQ 22 with my Network controller. Went into BIOS and disabled APIC in the BIOS and now it has IRQ 9 all to itself and the problem is solved.
What's with this BIOS setting? My understanding - from reading other threads regarding the seting - was that it enabled the OS to have extra IRQ's available (eg, 16-23 or whatever), and it should be enabled. The only difference it seems to make on my system is either 'microsoft-ACPI.....' sharing an IRQ if enabled or getting it's own IRQ when disabled - the latter resulting in much better performance. I still have the same amount of IRQ's either way. BTW, The setting was enabled when I installed XP Pro.
Any ideas?
Mick

  • APIC Setting

    Hi all,
Posted this question a while ago and never got any replies - I'm still searching for an answer with no luck. A while ago I posted a problem regarding low cpu performance when benchmarking, which is now solved. Perhaps you lumped a number of changes, together, that caused the difference in benchmarking scores?
    I just tried something else:
If I use my old D-Link network card for my internet connection, the problem doesn't occur. When I use the card "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant system" gets IRQ 20 all to itself.
When I use onboard LAN for internet with APIC enabled, I get a 20% cpu performance drop. When using onboard LAN, "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant system" shares IRQ 20 with "Network Controller".
So it seems with my system it seems that with APIC enabled I need to use a network card to avoid IRQ sharing for "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant system" .

  • Z68 WIN 7 will not boot after setting drive BIOS from IDE to SATA

    MSI Z68MA-ED55 (B3) Motherboard
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS
SATA III Solid State Drive with greater than 500 MB/s throughput
After installing WIN7 and all my Applications programs I noticed in the BIOS that the driver for the SSD did not properly set to fully support the SSD but remained in the IDE mode.
This computer was built for technical graphics work and not for child's play.  So I don't want to have to reinstall all the applications software for work with all its required protection features from theft.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. With this high transfer rate SSD, is it worth the performance improvement to reset the BIOS from the IDE driver to the proper driver?
    2. If so, how can I set the BIOS to the correct driver without reinstalling everything?
    3. At some level of the installation the system should have sensed the SSD SATA III and changed the driver from IDE. Where should this take place?

    Hi,
I had the same problem. You need to put it back to IDE, boot to Windows then follow the below instructions and it works fine. (Courtesy of Guru3D)
    Enable AHCI
The last tip we want to give you to gain a little extra performance boost is that you enable AHCI mode. AHCI mode can help out greatly in performance for SSDs. Now, if you swap out an HDD for an SSD with the operating system cloned and THEN enable AHCI in the BIOS, then you'll likely get a boot error / BSOD.
The common question is, is there a solution for this ?
To answer that question (and as we do safely with all modern chipsets) there is a way to safely enable AHCI mode. Here we go:
    1. Startup "Regedit"
    2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
    3. Open msahci
    4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
    5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
    6. exit "Regedit"
    7. Reboot Rig and enter BIOS (typically hold "Delete" key while Booting)
In your BIOS select "Integrated Peripherals" and OnChip PATA/SATA Devices. Now change SATA Mode from IDE to AHCI.
You now boot into windows 7 or Vista, and the OS will recognize AHCI and install the devices. Now the system needs one more reboot and voilla ... enjoy the improved SSD performance.

If I am not wrong, none other than reduced battery life.
For SSD, you could try PerfectDisk and use SSD Optimize to improve 4K read / write performance

  • "Memclock Index Value" setting in Bios

What the heck is this one??
I thought that everything runs accordingly to FSB freq X HT multiplier
    e.g.
    200 FSB X 5HT = 1000 MHz Hypertransport
So is the "Memclock Index Value" setting in Bios meaning that someone can independently overclock hypertransport bus from
    memory bus???...
    confused
    Markoul

Memclock index value is the rate from where memory speed and divider is calculated .
You have to calculate what divider is being used , see examples.
FSB is the value where th hypertansort speed and cpu clock speed is calculated .
    Eg 1.
    HTmultiplier (HTm) = 4x
    FSB= 250
    multiplier = 10
    Memory Index = 200
    Result=
    HT channel = HTm*FSB = 4x250 = 1000mhz or 2000MT/s
    CPU speed = multiplier*FSB = 10x250 = 2.5ghz
Memory divider = multiplier x 200/Memory Index = 10 * 200/200 = 10 ( in this case divider is always eq. to cpu multiplier and some calls this 1:1)
    Memory speed = Cpu Speed / Memory divider = 2500/10 = 250mhz or DDR500
    Eg 2.
    HTmultiplier (HTm) = 4x
    FSB= 250
    multiplier = 10
    Memory Index = 166
    Result=
    HT channel = HTm*FSB = 4x250 = 1000mhz or 2000MT/s
    CPU speed = multiplier*FSB = 10x250 = 2.5ghz
    Memory divider = multiplier x 200/Memory Index = 10 * 200/166,67 = 12
    Memory speed = Cpu Speed / Memory divider = 2500/12 = 208mhz or DDR416
    Eg 3.
    HTmultiplier (HTm) = 4x
    FSB= 250
    multiplier = 10
    Memory Index = 133
    Result=
    HT channel = HTm*FSB = 4x250 = 1000mhz or 2000MT/s
    CPU speed = multiplier*FSB = 10x250 = 2.5ghz
    Memory divider = multiplier x 200/Memory Index = 10 * 200/133,33 = 15
    Memory speed = Cpu Speed / Memory divider = 2500/15 = 166mhz or DDR333

I have a T400 with the BIOS version 2.16 7VET6WW dated 2009-04-22 with system board vf27k9434tj and the Intel P8600 CPU.
I try to set up virtualization with VirtualBox on Linux Mint 17 'Quiana' but VirtualBox tells me I do not have VT-d enabled, even though it is enabled in the BIOS, and I have cycled power since changing the BIOS.
No supervisor password is set. The RAM matches, a pair of 2GB modules.
How can I get virtualization to permit use of multiple CPUs?
    Thank you kindly.

  • No Virtualization Enable Setting in BIOS for TS140?

There is no Virtualization Setting in the BIOS (version 48A released date 8/26/13) of the new TS140. I have installed server 2012 but not able to install Hyper-V option. Called Lenovo Tech Support but he told me that if the Intel Chipset driver is installed then Virtualization is enabled. I double checked that it has the correct software driver installed but see no possibility of enabling VTx from within server 2012 OS. I hope this message would go to the LENOVO support guru and Please let me know if the VTx enabling setting will be implemented in the future releases of the BIOS. Thank you.

  • Install Windows 7 .. what setting in BIOS needed for it to read my flash drive first?

I just got the Erazer 315.  It comes with 8.1 but I want to install 7 Pro into it. Anyone know what steps I need to take?how do I install it? What settings in the BIOS should I change to  make it read my usb flashdrive first? Thanks

    hi luism60613,
You have two options in installing Windows 7
Option 1: Install Windows 7 in UEFI / GPT
    1. Follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 7 UEFI  installer.
    2. Boot into the BIOS and set the following (if applicable)
    Security Tab:
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Exit Tab:
    OS Optimized Defaults = Disabled
    3. Boot from the bootable Windows 7 UEFI installer that you created in Step 1 (by pressing F12 on startup and selecting the flashdrive) and install it on the Windows 8.1 partition (you can format this partition if you like) and you should be able to run Windows 7 in UEFI (this also preservers the OneKey Recovery which you can use to re-install Windows 8.1).
Option 2: Install Windows in MBR (Legacy)
    1. Follow this guide on how to create a Windows 7 legacy installer.
    2. Boot into the BIOS and set the following settings:
    Security Tab:
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Boot Tab:
    CSM = Enabled
    Boot Priority = Legacy First
    Exit Tab:
    OS Optimized Defaults = Disabled
    3. Boot from the Windows 7 installer that you created in Step 1 and on the Windows 7 installation screen, you will need to wipe all partitions or press Shift+F10 to open diskpart and issue the clean and convert mbr command to install Windows 7.
Note that this step will wipe everything so ensure you create a recovery drive (see this guide) just in case you want to restore Windows 8.1.

  • I set my bios to fail safe settings ..... (update 3/20)

I was messing around with my bios settings and reset them to fail safe settings. What a bad idea, I have tried everything even a system restore even though i know that has no effect on the bios.
I have a msi k8t neo 2 motherboard amd 3200 processor 1 gig of pc3200 ram bfg 6800 gt video card and i forget my type of hard drive. Its an ameritrends bios i dont know the exact ver. Im at work right now.
Also when i rebooted it said it couldnt find my sata drivers when i finally got into windows. So i used MSI auto finder thing to reinstall all my motherboard drives the sata reinstalled but still my pc is slow
How can I find the best settings for my system. Setting bios to optimized defaults also had no effect. I didnt put the system together and i dont know what the guy had the bios set to.
I would like to learn myself how to fix this I know its something stupid and would like to learn instead of payng someone to fix something i can do myself.

OK first let me start by thanking everyone for their help, I really do appreciate it.
Last night even though I didn't want to i re formated my hard drive and reinstalled windows. Fortunately I was smart enough to partition the HDD so I didn't lose everything.  Basically it was just my OS and drivers on C: all my programs and other things was on D:.
This once again confirms that its my BIOS settings that's is causing the problems. Here are some questions to further troubleshoot my PC and hopefully get to the bottom of things.
    1.  When turning on my PC now sometimes my monitor will not come on after a couple of reboots it finally comes on.
    2.  While running P.O.S.T. is see that my RAM is being run at SD instead of DD which the guy above did post.
    3.  I dint want to run the the auto updater from MSI.  I don't trust it.  Therefore I just want to confirm that I have this board
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=588&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=171&cat3_no=6  Ver. 1. I'm am going to reinstall all drivers for this board.
    4.  What Version BIOS should I run?  Should I use the newest or will an older one work better for me?  I found the manual for my board last night but don't have the original disk.  But earlier in this post i was told there was SATA controlls under intergrated peripherals.  Which is not listed in my BIOS but is shown in the Owners manual.  Whats with that?
    5.  Also upon looking in my device manager i see that my CPU doesn't have its drivers, i have yet to run a windows update where should i get these drivers?
    6.  I still need to know once I get this all sorted out what are the best settings for my RAM CPU etc because I believe that this is the main reason I am having problems.
Anyways I'm at work right now but would like all the help I can get now so i can get to work on my PC when i get home. Thanks again

Is it an IDE disk? If so check so that DMA is enabled, do it first in BIOS, then in Windows.
I mean, if the memory and processor settings are correct the hard disk is a likely culprit.
You might also control so the recommended voltage is set for your memory, you do that in BIOS.
Yes its an IDE HDD and I believe you hit the nail right on the head. unfortunately I have know idea what the correct settings are.

ConfigMgr contains no facilities to do this as ConfigMgr does not manage hardware.
You can however use a tool from the hardware to do this and of course run that tool using a run command line task in the task sequence to do this. This is all contingent on the tool from the vendor though; e.g., Dell has a toolset called the CCTK that does

  • Memory timing setting at BIOS not working

    hi,
Before I start, this is my PC:

    Chipset: Intel X58+ICH10R
OS: Windows Ultimate 7 64 bit
My system was running ok with 3 DIMMs at 1066Mhz, but now with 12GB I am getting BSODAND and programs are crashing. I noticed that when I try to manually set the timing at BIOS advanced memory setup and reboot, I press F5 (Memory-Z) and the timings are always the same 7-7-7-16 even if I put any other timing at the BIOS menu. Maybe am I missing some other setup? How can I change that timing?

I already did that but with 1.65V at 1066 and 1333MHz. I changed in BIOS but it seems its not really working to change the timing. I try to change at BIOS to 7-7-7-24 8-8-8-24 9-9-9-30.
