App for Windows Phone tablet can be made with Silverlight?

Hi,
I just came back to develop for WP. Last time I did it there was only Silverlight, but now we have WinRT and Silverlight. I want to create app mainly focused on tablets is better to use WinRT or Sliverlight? Or maybe I have no choice and I have to use WinRT?

Windows Phone Silverlight apps run only on Windows Phone. To run on all devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone, etc) you'll need a Windows Runtime app.

An app for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 does not exist.  I have asked Verizon about this a number of times and have been ignored.  The only positive of this is that the Android and IOS apps are all buggy, so it's highly likely that we're only missing out on another buggy app for the Windows platforms.

  • Playmemories app for Windows phone

I have recently bought the HDR-AS100VR action cam, and has desperately beeb looking for the Playmemories app for my also recently acquired Windows phone. This however seems futile. I can find several post in here and others on the internet dating back from 2013 discussing why this app is not available for Windows smartphones. Sony (and Microsoft) please make an effort to help your loyal customers and see to it that this app is made available ASAP instead of pushing them into using other devices, which will be the result id nothing happens.

    Hi Kasper,
The PlayMemories Mobile app is only available in iOS and Android devices. It is also available for Vaio running Windows 8 and 8.1. We understand that you'd want to control the camera or send pictures to your mobile device. We will take not of this and forward it to the engineering department for future product developments.
Please refer to this other thread for suggestions on how to control the camera in a Windows phone. http://community.sony.com/t5/Cybershot-Cameras/Playmemories-app-for-Windows-phone/td-p/167875/highlight/true/page/8

    Hi,
The app for Windows phone is a BETA version. In my case (also a Nokia) it can find my printer but when sending something to printer, printer won't print. Again, it's only a BETA version.

  • Open Question: question to those who comment about the lack of apps for Windows Phone 8

We have read every Lumia review and we are listening. An open question to those who comment about the lack of apps for Windows Phone 8.Tell us which apps you miss? Nokia/MSFT Customer Care

The major apps that are missing are Banking Apps.  There are a few, but major banks like Regions Bank, Capital One Bank, are nowhere to be found for Windows Phone.  Microsoft should be pursuing these banks to develop apps for the platform.  Maybe bribe them with free software or tech support or something.  Also some of the dating apps like Grindr for the gay community, Blender for the straight community, are lacking as well.  Perhaps Microsoft could assist them in developing the "unified" app for both Windows and Windows Phone?
In fact, Microsoft would do well to begin a "Developer Assistance Program" where developers could (for a small fee) contact the DAP Center and get assistance with issues creating apps for the Windows Platform.  If developers know they have a source to go for assistance, they may be more inclinded to develop better apps.

  • Cisco Connect Cloud - Apps for Windows Phone.

Are you planning to make apps for windowsphone?

Hi! So far, what's indicated on cisco's site is that the mobile apps are only available for iOS and andoid only. But I came across this site: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57460150-1/cisco-woos-developers-adds-802.11ac-support-as-connec... and quoting one sentence: "Cisco says this is just the beginning and that there will be hundreds of mobile apps that take advantage of the Cisco Connect Cloud platform, making home networking not just more convenient to use but also more fun and offering features that many people may not have imagined possible before."  With this statement, cisco might develop cisco connect cloud apps for windows phone.

  • Nokia HERE apps for Windows Phone 7.8

Today Nokia released the HERE apps for the entire Windows Phone 8 family, that means, Nokia Lumia devices and HTC/Samsung/Huawei devices too. A few weeks ago it was even launched for iOS devices, that's iPhone. I've even heard that you people are working on porting those apps to Android. Now... why aren't Windows Phone 7.8 users like me stuck in the dark with no HERE apps? I currently have a Samsung Focus v1.3 which barely runs the integrated maps app, but honestly it sucks. I would love if Nokia could give us WP7.8 users some love, at least with the basic Maps app specially to have offline maps. Drive would be nice too, but it's not a really big deal to keep this devices "alive" for a couple of months. Currently my wife has a Lumia 800 and of course she's happy with it, looking forward to change it for a Lumia 920 when it arrives to her carrier, but since I use a prepaid line for better economy I'm not able to opt for a change and I'll have to stick with the Focus for a while as I can get a Lumia 920. So please, just think about it, I'm a developer for the platform, I know it's not hard to port that app for offline map catching, I realy doesn't matter if there's no 3D maps and all the navigation features, but it really would be nice and much of a need to have a decent offline maps app in Windows Phone 7.8.

Nokia Maps/drive has been made available to other OEMs to license for their devices afaik.. If Samsung or whoever choose not to that's up to them. For Windows Phone 8 this is a different story as maps is integrated much more deeply there.

  • QuickControl app for Windows Phone 8.1???

    Hello,
I'm totally happy with my Thinkpad X240 but I would like to be able to use remote control -for instance to pause/resume VLC player when the Thinkpad is hooked up to my TV. I read that Lenovo has this great program 'QuickControl', but you obviously need an accompanying app on your smartphone.
I can find the app for iOS and Android, but I happen to own a Windows Phone (with WP8.1)... Since I'm trying to build a 'Windows Only' life after mixed experiences with Android and OSX, I would really like the QuickControl app to be available for Windows Phone. I guess it would make sense for Lenovo -being a manufacturer of PC's- to also develop QuickControl for the Windows Phone...
Does any of you community members know where to find this app, or if/when it will become available? Or do you know another WP app that can communicate with QuickControl installed on a Thinkpad X240?
Any help is much appreciated. Oh, and by the way: Happy Holidays everyone!

  • How to make backward compatibility of windows phone 8.1 app for windows phone 7?

I developed windows phone 8.1 app which is in windows phone store. Now, i want to make this app compatible for windows 7 also. Is it possible, if yes then how?

It may be that you are using non-backward compatible capabilities in your Windows Phone 8.1 app(s).
Developers that want to develop for different OS's usually have platforms with the different OS's on them for developing applications so they work on each platform.
I suppose you developed for Windows phone 8.1 rather than Windows phone 7. Therefore your app runs on a different framework than a Windows phone 7 has as well as probably newer hardware with greater capabilities.
So you will probably need to purchase an older phone that came with Windows phone 7 in order to develop for. I couldn't find documentation like the last link below (App capabilities and hardware requirements for Windows Phone 8) for Windows phone 7
from Microsoft but maybe you can.
Windows Phone OS 7.1 - Developing a Windows Phone Application from Start to Finish
    Types of Applications
The Windows Phone application platform provides two frameworks for developing applications:
    Silverlight
The Silverlight framework supports event-driven, XAML-based application development.
    XNA
The XNA Framework supports loop-based games.
Silverlight and XNA can also be combined in a single application.
The following table lists some of the criteria that you can use to determine whether you should use Silverlight or the XNA Framework for your Windows Phone application. With Windows Phone OS 7.1, you can combine Silverlight and XNA into one application.
For more information about Silverlight and XNA, see
The Silverlight and XNA Frameworks for Windows Phone. For more information about the application platform, see
Application Platform Overview for Windows Phone.
What's New in Windows Phone 8.1
Platform convergence with Windows Store apps
Windows Phone 8.1 introduces an important change in the Windows Phone developer ecosystem. In this release, Windows Phone converges with the Windows Store apps platform into a single developer platform that runs the same types of apps—Windows Runtime apps.
Platform convergence began in Windows Phone 8, which supports a small subset of Windows Runtime APIs, but which differs from Windows in many core areas. In Windows Phone 8.1, there’s so much more in common—a much larger API set, a similar app model
and life cycle, a shared toolset, a common UI framework—Windows Phone and Windows Store app developer platforms truly have become one, single development platform.
Of course there are still some small differences in behavior and supported features between Windows Phone and Windows Store apps. Some of these are the result of timing of the different product cycles, and they may not appear in future releases. Some differences
are the result of the different natures of phones and computers, their sizes, and the way people use them. We encourage developers to think in terms of Windows app development—developing for a single Windows Runtime, but targeting two different platforms on
    phones and computers.

    But for 8.1? I can't find anything.

    Hi Edgardo,
    >>Is there an equivalent for this https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/jj571205(v=vs.105).aspx
This function is supported on Silverlight app(Wp8 or WP8.1 SL). As far as I know, it isn't yet supported on WP 8.1 WinRT app.

  • Verizon Apps Wishlist for Windows Phone 7

I have seen leaked details of the My Verizon app for Windows Phone 7 online.  It looks like it lets people view their plan, update their profile, view usage, see vcast vidoes, and it has a cool family locator.   What apps or features do people want to see from Verizon once WP7 launches?
    Here's my list:
    - Visual Voicemail
    - Tethering App

Windows Phone 7 as of NoDo update which includes CDMA support also has Copy & Paste built in so no app needed there.
Twitter apps exist and when Mango update rolls out later this year will also have twitter integrated just as Facebook presently is.
Multitasking is coming with Mango update and appears to be pretty quick and easy to use. I've seen demo's and it is looking good.
The phone should sync with your live account without any problems. On the other hand Exchange I'm not sure of but it would be odd for MS not to support thier own software offerings with other software they supply. I believe it depends on what accounts are loaded into the phone and from there it will be able to sync the phone to exchange which is what Outlook usually relies on.
I see the only thing really is Twitter integration as somewhat relevant for those who tweet. I don't tweet so it is of no concern to me. Multitasking I can live without for the time being and will be nice to have down the road. Copy Paste is built in so you can scratch that off your list. Sync should work as well but I cannot confirm this especially without any knowledge of what your setup looks like presently. I would assume it works though.
