App object run order

Is there any way to set the order in which app objects are run on the workstation other than using the "Wait on Force Run" and "Determine Force Run Order" options?

In Short, If you chain apps, when you launch one it will ensure all of the
others are installed as well.
Example - You might have a bunch of apps that point to spreadsheet files and
you may link/chain those to an Office Bundle so that if Office is not
installed, it will instll office and then open the spreadsheet.
Or you may have an application that requires .NET and JAVA. Chain your apps
to your .NET and JAVA installs and when you install your app that requires
the others, it will install those as well.

App Object Run Order Not Honored

Currently we use 'Wait on force run' and 'Determine force run order' to deliver applications in the order required. This was working okay until recently and I am unable to identify why.
Our configuration has application delivery timer start that is set to Run Order 0 and then another application delivery timer end that is set to 850 after the last application object in the run order list. Previously the timer would start up, then all the applications would deliver and finally the application timer end would shut down the timer.
Now the application timer starts and ends in the same minute then some NALs continue to run after the timer ends. This is problematic because we have applications that depend the delivery of support files and if a user opens the file before the files are written then application is not configured correctly.
Visual of application delivery and NALDIAG proves that the applications are not being rolled out based on 'Determine force run order'.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as this has become a globally impacting issue.

Running zwsreg.exe as an app object or schedule that runs everytime nal refreshes.

Hi,
I'm not a 'heavy' novell user. I do the lower level things. But
here's my problem that I can't for the life of me figure out.
Our workstation registration process runs on login. It will remove the
workstation every 40 days. It is a large manufacturing fascility.
Many of the tools don't allow the workstations to log out and back in
within that time frame.
I'm trying to figure out a way to 'schedule' the zwsreg.exe to run as a
normal user in the background and unregister if it's registered, then
register the workstation so we can remote connect to them without
running into workstations that have become 'unregistered'. I can run
the zwsreg from the command line easy enough. But it seems there are
problems with either mapping or file rights when i try to put it in a
batch file or run it right as an app object. Has anyone ran into this
situation before and found a solution?
I'd have no problem I guess using the workstation scheduler, but that
doesn't have rights when a user is logged in to register :(

Do you have these shop floor workstations under a separate workstation
policy? You could add a "Scheduled Action Policy" for those workstations
with zwsreg as the action, and schedule it to run, say weekly.
Or you could just move those workstations into a different container that
the workstation removal policy doesn't specify... that way the won't be
removed every 40 days... or ever.

I am an Aperture user and I am tired of managing my old iphoto library seperately. In order to use the new combined aperture/iphoto abilities i need a newer version of iphoto. Apple says that the new iphoto is free, however my iphoto (version 8.1.2) did not update. How do i update iphoto so that i can use the library with Aperture?

iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband are free. However, you must be running Mavericks in order to download and use them. Mavericks is free also. Therefore your Mac must be capable of running Mavericks:

Certain apps ARE running in background / while iphone is in standby

Well after some quick searching all I see are people asking how they can get 3rd party apps to run "in the background".
I assume that when people are saying "background" they mean (for example) opening up Instant Messanger, starting a conversation, pressing the Home button, going into another app like calendar, and still being able to receive IM's while in the other app. I am quite clear that this is not possible as per the Apple SDK.
My post is about when you open an app (lets say GPSTracker), let it run for a minute, then either let the phone go to sleep on its own, or press the top button to go into standby / lock the phone. It still sends data over the web. ipod is not active or playing (some people say to let the ipod play in order to let things run in background). Is this supposed to happen? Pandora also plays on in the same situation.
Now this does still wear down the battery of course. And I wonder is this could be the cause for a couple of times when my battery drain & my usage stat was ridiculously high. I do not believe I left anything open, but like 5 hours into the day after the phone was unplugged, I looked at the usage and it was higher than the standby stat! The screen was definitely not on though. Maybe thats a topic for another thread.

I'm sorry for the ignorance, but by switched off do you mean hitting the top button? Seems the terms like sleep, standby, off, locked, etc get thrown around I just want to be clear. I 'turn off' my phone while im talking on my BT in the car so I don't end up hitting buttons or hanging up by accident by pressing the top button twice.. once i think locks it and the other turns off the screen. I did the same while trying out the gpstracker app and later looked at the site to see that it was tracking the whole time my phone was 'off' (when i did turn it off, that app was currently running).

App to run remote commands

I am building an app to run remote commands. A server app with tcp/ip to listen for connections, validate user, then let user send commands(from a predefined list) that will fire the Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime() , the Process proc = rt.exec(cmd from cmd list)
Any thoughts on this? Better method or practice?
Can you get static of a proc whil running? I wnat each call to be a new proc, so I guess I could vector them after creation?

strictly network internal ops. Run exe/bat/com on remote server. The commands will be contolled by the admin, so we will be limited. I see the server running as a Win2k service so the permission for it to execute commands could be limited to the user that is the 'log on as' for the service.(is this a correct assumption?)
We have tried rcmd, windows scripting, etc...but they all require admin privs on the target machine and the admins won't allow this.
My thought was to build a command object to extend into commands we are allowed to run. you use a gui to send encrypted command name to server, it decrpyts and runs the appropriate cmd object, firing runtime to execute a predefined cmd string held in the cmd object and permissions based on service 'log on As' user.

Stop more than one instance of app from running

hi,
is there any way to stop more than one version of an application from running? i've seen topics on singelton but i'm not sure if that's what i need, i'm a little confused on that. what i need to do is stop the main app from running if it's already running, not some object within the app. something like being able to run only one instance of ms word. i was thinking about using a file, writing to it and deleting it when the app closes, so if the file exists the new instance will know something is running and not run, but the problem is if the app crashes because of windows, i won't be able to delete that file. any ideas?

1. The app should implement a special tiny server it tries to start on a specific range of private ports.
The Well Known Ports are those from 0 through 1023.
The Registered Ports are those from 1024 through 49151
The Dynamic and/or Private Ports are those from 49152 through 65535

2. When the app starts, it tries to find a server already running on one of your defined ports, connect and listen for a special message you can choose: "app xyz by soni29 already running".
If found, the application displays a message and terminates.
Otherwise it starts the server and continues.

Changing App Objects in bulk?

Hi,
I have a need to do a couple operations on all of our ZENworks 4
application objects.
I need to rename the object name as well as add an environment variable to
the Availability attribute.
Does anyone know of a utility that will allow me to do this across our
800+ app objects?
I'm guessing for the renames I could probably get a one of the older "Cool
Solutions" commandline utils to get a text file export list of all the AOs
and then run that through a script with a util to rename.
I would think I'm not the only person who has had need of something like
this though and hopefully there is something out there to make it a little
easier.

It may be shameless, but I've used the tool to updated 1000s of apps at
once.
It was the only solution I found that came with sanity.

How to keep an application level object running with SunIDM?

We are working on intergrate a gmail project with SunIDM. We need an application level object running with SunIDM so it will maintain a token generated from Gmail side. In anther servlet project, I had this object saved in the attribute of the ServletContext, then other session level servlet could share this attribute anytime. Is there a way to store attribute in Servlet Context and have it shared by different user session in SunIDM? I have been reading documents and searched this forum, haven't find any topics related how to maintain an application level object live. Hopefully that I can get some hint here.

Paul, Thank you so much for the further explaination. I don't think it will work since the token generated from gmail will expire every 24 hours.
We are using the gdata library published from by gmail people, and I create a new UserService object and have it run in the application level. The UserService object will generate a token and renew it every 24 hours behind the scene. Here is how I implement it in my Servlet project:

App cannot run on Windows Server 2012 R2

I have an application that runs well on Windows Server 2012. The application has two editions 32-bit and 64-bit, both are from the same code base.
However, on Windows Server 2102 R2, the x64 version of the application works, but the 32-bit version does not run. Invoking the 32-bit of the application generates the "This app cannot run on you PC" message.
I tried the compatibility troubleshooting, and it does not help.
Any suggestion on what could be the problem?

Your advice did not help me. I also installed 10.7.4 combo but the situation is the same.

I want to use Meteor app but run out of memory.

Is there a way I can store data on the cloud, so freeing up memory to work on any given app? I run out of space all the time. I use lots of apps in different media so
can I say, do some work on one app then save the files to the Cloud, then reload later when I need it. Basically, I feel I should only Keep the apps on my iPad, then on each separate app save the work as I finish for the day to Keep my memory uncluttered? Any help would be appreciated. Only if the individual Apps support saving to the cloud. Otherwise no. There is no user access to the iCloud storage area.
Its only there for backups, and data syncronization between certain Apps that support it.

How can I get to home screen from car dock menu when an app is running?

Just upgraded to the RAZR MAXX from a Droid 2 Global.
When the phone is mounted in the car dock and an app is running (Navi, Music, etc.), how can you get to the main home screen of the phone rather than the car dock menu?
Follow me......
* Phone is mounted in Car Dock.
* If there are NO apps running, pressing the BACK key from within the Car Dock Menu takes you directly to the Home screen.
However.....
* Phone is mounted in Car Dock.
* Navigation(or any app, for that matter) is running.
* Pressing MENU key takes me to Car Dock Menu.
* There's no exit option available to exit from car dock menu.
* Pressing BACK key takes you back to the app that's running, not the home screen.
* Long press of HOME key only takes you to an app list screen, not home screen.
* Only way to get to home screen is to repeatedly press the BACK button exiting out of the Car Dock Menu and cancelling all apps that are currently running.
On my Droid 2, I was able to quickly exit the Car Dock Menu simply by pressing the BACK or exit button, regardless of which or how many apps were running. They would still run in the background, showing on the status bar.
Anyone know of a work around? I couldn't find any settings to change within the Car Dock menu to change this. Stopped by three Verizon stores and they all say we have to be missing something, as they couldn't figure it out either. One rep told me it was a new "nanny" feature so that you couldn't access your apps while driving, however when I pointed out that you could access the home screen if no apps were running, he wasn't sure what to say.
Any help?

I solved my problem eventually by getting all the devices - 2 iphones, the newish pc and the older Mac on icloud.
All media, calenders and messages were lost from the iphones, except for purchased itunes that I paid another $30 to Apple to save for me and also paid Appple some more to use icloud but the good news is I did save my contacts
I opened all of my contacts and pretty much had to edit and drag them over almost individually as they weren't all in some sort of configuration that Apple liked - i.e. if an email address ended in ch or es or de it might not be accepted as a properly configured vcard.
It would be nice if Apple made it a litle easier when you have older devices and need to get them in sync with newer ones.
