App requirements

Trying to understand something. I've always had an iPhone 3GS. Most of the apps I downloaded have "requirments/compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad." But, then that same app has another iPad app.
Example: Chase Mobile
I have the Chase Mobile iPhone app, but since it has iPad as listed compatible, that app syncs with my new iPad2. Then my question is what is the other Chase Mobile app?
Another question, in iTunes 10.7, Grid view, I have two sections:
iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad Apps
iPhone and iPod touch Apps
But, the second section also syncs to iPad with no problem.....

Apps can be optimized for the iPhone screen, optimized for the iPad screen, or dual encoded with both optimizations in a single app (so called universal apps).
An iPhone-only app will still work on an iPad, but it will default to a size identical to that as on the iPhone, and while it can be increased to twice those dimenisions, it will not do true full screen iPad resolution.
An iPad HD only app is simply not displayable on an iPhone screen.
A dual or universal app, will display optimally on either device, but will be a larger download and a larger installed binary file than an app optimized for only one specific device.
Sometimes the apps themselves are quite different too - the iPhone Bank of America app is quite different then the iPad HD version.

Search your hard drive for a file containing ITL in it. That is the file extension for the itunes database file. You might need to set Win Explorer options to show NOT hide file extensions.
Once you are sure you know where that file is, press AND HOLD the shift key while starting itunes. Keep holding the shift key until you see a question about choosing or creating a library. Choose the ITL file you found during your search.

OK, I understand that new versions make use of facilities that come with new versions of IOS, but there is/was a version that runs on 3.1.3 and therefore, I assume 4.2.1. Where can I get the (old) version that runs on my IOS?
The app store seems to ignore all legacy equipment owners, and want me to spend loadsa money to get the latest shiny toy. It probably makes business sense, but I dislike companies that take that approach. This is my first venture into smart phones, and I like the IOS interface, but I'm not sure I can afford the maintenance.

This is standard for Apple. While there is little official mention of the software support lifespan for equipment, typical support has been about 4-5 years for computers. It strikes me that newer items, especially mobile devices, are not built as sturdily nor do they have the hardware upgrade capabilities required to keep up with newer systems. When we bought an iPhone 4S we were told by the person in the store we'd probably be looking at a newer model in two years. The iPhone 3G could be anywhere from 2 to 4 years old, putting it well into.
As for app availability, Apple typically pulls old software versions from its site when new versions appear. If it is a non-Apple app then I guess it is up to the vendor. It is indeed tiresome but it is not at all unusual. Since I only ever run used Macs, I download current versions even though my computer won't run them, stick them on a hard drive, then I have them when I upgrade to a newer used computer. If you run older equipment you have to learn a different mode of operation to exist with the Apple 'new and innovative' but 'forget about the old' philosophy.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

What exactly happens when you try to update the iPod? What does the error message say?
Also, are you sure yo have a 2G iPod?

App developers decide on what iOS versions to support with their apps. Also, Apple has identified certain updates that are necessary for particular applications. The only way to continue using certain apps on the iPhone 3G is to not update your apps if they require a higher iOS to operate. When you get ready to update an app, it will say what iOS is works on, and if it requires higher than the iOS you have, do not update. The only other alternative is to replace the device with a newer model.

If you have a Verizon iPhone 4, the current version of iOS is 4.2.10. You can not install anything higher at this point. The next release of iOS will most likely be iOS 5.

How do I update it. I now know how to install Adobe AIR runtime into the Emulator, but I can't find how one updates it?

How to avoid "App requires Adobe Flash." error message when Adobe Flash is already installed??!!

On my new Lenovo Yoga 3 PC laptop I am trying to install Kayak and Pandora apps but once these apps are downloaded, whenever I try to open them, an error message pops up saying: ADOBE FLASH REQUIRED. The Kayak (or Pandora) app requires Adobe Flash. Installation is free. "Install" or "Not Now".
I have installed Adobe Flash 10 times and rebooted etc. but I still cannot use those apps because of this error message.
This is driving me crazy.
I have checked to confirm that the newest version of Adobe Flash IS installed and working on my computer.
What can I do?????

Typically when software applications are using an embedded browser window that wants Flash, they're looking for the ActiveX version used in Internet Explorer. If you've been installing Flash Player for Firefox, that's not going to help.
Fire up Internet Explorer, go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer and follow the prompts. This should resolve the issue for you.
If you're already using Internet Explorer on a Windows 8 or higher machine, then Flash Player is already a built-in component of IE. The problems you're running into may be specific to the intersection of those websites and Internet Explorer 11. (IE11 makes a bunch of changes to how the browser is identified, which may ultimately cause the sites to fail to detect Flash.) In that instance, the easiest workaround is probably to just use Google Chrome - http://www.google.com/chrome/ while we wait for the world to adjust to Internet Explorer's new approach.
