Does anyone know if an in-house enterprise app has the same restrictions as one distributed through the app store? For example, could I write a gambling app and get a certification to distribute it privately?

I suggest avoiding a gambling app. There is no good that can come from that.

Is there a way for Automatic Downloads to still install new apps, when the install app restriction is turned on?

We have several iPads used by remote reps across the US, What we would like to do is use the built in restrictions for the iPad to not allow them to install apps or buy from the App Store. The problem is that if we have a new app that we are allowing, we would need to either have the iPads shipped to us, or we would need to provide the restriction code for them to install.
I want to be able to have the iTunes account for the company enabled on the iPads, with the Auto-Download New Apps enabled. That way when we purchase a new app on either our inhouse iPad, or via iTunes, it is also downloaded on the other iPads as well. Right now, if the Install Apps restriction is enabled, even the Auto-Install seems to fail or just skip the device. If there a way around this, or is it something that can be fixed in a future version?

Not other than parental oversight. On the computer you can implement Parental Controls on a separate user account that they would use. You can then block certain websites. But you cannot do that on the iPad.
You could change your iTunes account such that they cannot access it in order to buy or download apps.

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
3. Do a soft and hard reset.
4. Reset network settings.
5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

If you didn't make an in-app purchase within the app then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
You may also want to turn off in-app purchases via Settings > General > Restrictions > In-App Purchases 'off'

Where are the App-signs for youtube, safari and appStore?

After updating to itunes 10 the app-signs for youtube, safari and appstore disappeared from the main menu on my ipod touch 3G (also updated). Where can I get them again?

Those are native apps and can't be deleted. Can you find them using the search function (left most Home screen). You can hide the YouTube and Safari apps in Settings>General>Restrictions but not for the App Store.

We're building the Video_TS in DVD Studio Pro 4, for our DVD-A project, which is being created in discWelder CHROME II. We think we've figured out the audio integration portion, but we're still trying to double-check that we're meeting all of the restrictions for the contents of the VIDEO_TS. Can someone tell me off-hand how to check the following (which of these are not applicable to DVD Studio Pro):
Text Data Manager should not be specified.
A Title shall consist of one Program Chain (PGC), and should not be PGC Block. The Title shall be set for Sequential playback.
Pre-Command, Post-Command, and Cell-Command shall not be specified, except for the "CallSS from TT_DOM (title domain) to VMGM_DOM (vmg domain) in the Post-Command area. This command will only be used by DVD-Video players, and ignored by DVD-Audio players.
Availability control of User Operations, Audio Streams, and Sub-picture Streams should not be specified. These features will always be available.
Cell Stills and VOBU Stills shall not be defined.
Number of audio streams shall be 1 or 2, with one stream being Linear PCM or AC-3 (if playlist title only consists of Video Title).
Cell blocks (e.g. different Angles) may be specified if the playlist title consists of only the Video Title.
Some Button Commands are restricted. The available commands for a Video Title are LinkPGCN, LinkCN, LinkSIns (PG, C), COMP_LinkPGN, COMP_LinkCN, COMP_LinkSIns (PG, C), SetSTN, Set, COMP_SetSTN, SetSTN_LinkPGN, SetSTN_LinkCN, SetSTN_LinkSIns(PG, C), Set_LinkPGN, Set_LinkCN, Set_LinkSIns(PG, C)
The Navigation Timer should not be used.

Based on the spec. rules you listed, I'd say DVDSP is NOT the right authoring system to use in a DVD-Audio title. DVDSP is a spec authoring tool which gives the author no or little control over the parameters your talking about.
You can take a look how DVDSP authors it's titles with this app.

Almost all these rules could or could not be applicable to DVDSP depending how you author your disc.

How do you contact the people at App World (for PlayBook)...

Does anybody know who I need to talk to regarding App World (for the playbook). It really gripes me when you write a constructive review for an app, but the vender then removes it - surely, this should not be allowed (as it can lead to customers being mislead). I wrote the following review for the UK on-device GPS Map app, and guess what, it was removed!
Not as impressed as i thought it would be for the following reasons:1. Incomplete maps - I've lived in my house for over ten years, yet my housing estate doesn't show up on the map (I wonder if this is the case elsewhere???)!
2. Map scale - When I'm out and about, and zoom into the map, it doesn't always rescale itself; rendering the map useless.
3. GPS Location - Once the App finds your location, and you then move, it doesn't then replot your movement on the map; to re-establish your position, you have keep repressing the button - very poor!
4. Finally, the App just keeps crashing! Your using it, then it just switches off.
Considering all the above, and the price of this App (£9.99!), I am really disapointed. Please fix the issues identified or refund asap.

Possibly the best bet is simply discussing it here. RIM tends to like such feedback to be filtered through the forum, I presume because allowing much direct contact would overwhelm them (these days, with negative feedback!). It's also reasonable in that it gives other people here (users like you, and developers) a chance to comment, expand the discussion, correct misconceptions, and so on. As I understand it, RIM tries to monitor these forums, and in the cases where they may not notice a particular concern, some of the long-time participants have back-channels to escalate serious concerns to their attention. I'm pretty sure they watch the "big picture", and if enough people complain about something, I'm pretty sure they take notice and engage in internal discussions to decide what to do about it. (My main problem with this whole process is that they almost never provide any external feedback to us, even to let us know they recognize certain problems. For example, the PlayBook rapid charger quality problems... it's incontrovertibly a defect, but there's been no sign of any recognition of that on their part.)
That said, I sympathize with you. I'm disgusted by that map vendor's products and behaviour, as I think they give the rest of us devs a bad name, not to mention "hogging" too much of the space in the Newest and Recently Updated lists, among other things.
I'll note one thing, however, though I don't like the idea I might actually be seen as defending them. On the map quality topic, those maps are actually using the OpenStreetMap data, aren't they? (Visit http://openstreetmap.org) If so, the quality of the data isn't something that vendor has control over... OSM is basically just like Wikipedia, in that the content is almost entirely generated by volunteers, people like you and I, who have chosen to contribute. (I've edited OSM for my own town, adding many missing roads, fixing spelling errors, etc.)
If that's true, then I think the vendor ought to have made that very clear to their customers. I'm not too surprised they did not, however, since I believe they knew they couldn't charge people $10 for a poor quality app that was merely giving you access to map data that cost the vendor nothing to provide.
Have you tried contacting the vendor and demanding a refund? It is possible for developers to request that RIM arrange a refund, as I understand it.

Workgroup Manager doesn't affect app restrictions

I've set up a new mac mini with Lion Server, and a new iMac with Lion. I configured a set of network accounts on the Lion Server (its a directory master) using Workgroup manager. I set a group heirarchy for (lets just say for example) "thefamily" with subgroups "theadults" and "thekids". I downloaded the Workgroup Manager app and installed on the iMac, where I used it to connect back to the Lion Server Open Directory and set up application restrictions for "theKids". I set up all accounts in "thefamily" to create mobile accounts. I created a "testkid" account as a member of "thekids" group and logged in via the iMac. Log-in and home-sync seemd to go OK BUT all the applications that I had restricted in Workgroup Manager are still accessible! What can I do to fix this?

Make sure your user accounts are network accounts. (You need to configure OpenDirectory via the Users Next Steps tab in Server app on the server, then create user accounts from the Server app.)
Place the restrictions on the Network accounts.
Log everyone off of the iMac, then log in using a local admin account on the iMac.
Make sure the iMac is connected to the right OpenDirectory server. Also make sure that network logins are allowed and displayed on the login screen.
Log out of the iMac and log back in as a network user. You will need to click the Other button on the login screen, then type in the network user name and password.
This, in theory, should be the necessary steps to make the restrictions work. From what your description I am guessing you were placing restrictions on local accounts (which also show up in Workgroup Admin), and unless you set up OpenDirectory, there won't be any network accounts in LION. (At least that has been my experience so far.)

Updating my .ipa in DPS App Builder for testing is not working

Hi there,
I've build my .ipa file in DPS App Builder for testing on my iPad before I publish it to the app store. No problem. I tested it and saw some modifications to make. I made the changes on my folio, updated it in the folio builder of indesign (on the cloud). Then I get back to DPS App Builder and rebuild an .ipa file from the "Manage" and "Modify" windows, it download and test my certifates, seems to work ok. Then I've created the new .ipa file (after erasing the old one on my desktop and iTunes) but when I synch it back on my iPad it's not updated. It's still the first version of my folio without the changes.
I tried to create a new app from the beginning but the single edition serial number does not work anymore. So my only solution is to update my folio, right? But what is the right way to do it? Am I missing something? I didn't find any answer in the step by step guide about that.
Or is it possible to delete completly the first version in DPS App Builder to recreate it without losing my single edition serial number as I didn't submit it to Apple yet?
Do I have something to do in the Folio Producer?

Single Edition Serial is one time use thus modification is not possible from your end directly in case you wish to use the same serial number. For such cases you need to contact DPS Support, who can get an approval on a serial number reset after reviewing the need.

Office Web Apps server for Lync DNS question

We are going to deploy an Office Web Apps server for our Lync 2013 clients, available internally and externally. We do not have a split-horizon DNS so it is not possible for wac.foo.com to have a different IP for internal vs. external clients. What is the
best setup for our scenario? It looks like we can only add one address in the Lync topology builder, so would it make sense to send everybody to the external wac.foo.com regardless of whether they are internal vs. external? Or is there a better option?

It might be easiest to use pin-point DNS. Create an internal zone called wac.foo.com with a blank A record that points to the internal IP address of the OWAS/WAC server. This way, wac.foo.com will resolve to the correct
internal address, but you're not setting up a split zone for the rest of foo.com.
This trick can come in handy for publishing other items without recreating the entire zone, it's a nice one to keep in your back pocket.
