App Store broken in OS X Mavericks

After Installing OS X Mavericks on my Mac Book Air the App Store no longer works. The app store loads and says that I have 1 update available but it doesn't show the availbale update. All the other tabs (Features, Top Charts, Categories, and Purchases) are blurred-out and can't be selected. I also cannot click into the seach area. Clicking Apple>software updates and Apple>app store both do not help. Its seems as if the app store is frozen and it won't reload no matter how many times I restart the app or my Mac Book Air.
This really worries me because the only whay I can upgrade to the next version of mavericks, presumablly with some bugs fixes, is through the app store, which is broken. Is there some reset for tha app store that I can help?

In my case, the App Store offered me updates for Pages, Numbers and Keynote. All 3 updated OK, but App Store is still offering an update for the already-updated Keynote. If I click on update, nothing happens - presumably because it's already been updated. Here's a screen shot:

  • App store login - not working since Mavericks update

    All,
Since I updated to Mavericks, I find I am unable to log into the App Store. I get the login pane OK, enter my credentials, then get a spinner that waits... and waits... And never works.
The Apple ID I am using is good - iTunes likes it fine, and I'm using it to post this. Just the App Store, and only since the Mavericks update; indeed I used the Apple ID to install Mavericks...
Google tells me I am not the only one seeing this - but the suggested fixes do not seem to work for me. Do we know if a "proper" actual official fix wil be forthcoming?
Indeed, do Apple acknowledge that some folks are having a problem with this?
Anyway, in case anyone else stumbles onto this one:
    - There are many threads suggesting that deleting the network plist helps (though did not for me)
    - For some, deleting /Users/ian/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist helps (though not for me...)
    - and so on.
What "works" for me, albeit as a workaround, is to create a new user account on the machine, and use that to access the App Store - with the same ID etc., but this time it works. At least one time, so far!
I'd much rather my regular account Just Worked.
Any of the accounts (myself, wife, etc.) on the machine before the Mavericks upgrade however; they can not log into the App Store any more.
No Idea why not; presumably "something" changed in the updates and that broke the login in some way; though why iTunes et al appear unaffected is less clear!

Just an update to note that, after leaving it alone for a while, I tried the app store again today and it now works from my regular account once again.
    Which is nice...
No idea what changed in the meantime, but at least it appears to be working.

  • Most of my native os x apps won't open in mavericks, even the mac app store. how do i reinstall mavericks?

Most of my native os x apps wont work in mavericks, even the app store.
i tried to reinstall mavericks using command + R after restart, but the progress bar in the screen wont move. "downloading additional components"
how do i solve this problem?

Use Recovery Mode or Safe Mode (hold down Shift as you Restart) to launch Disk Utility and (Repair disk). While you are up, (Repair Permissions) as well.

It sounds like you've installed Mavericks.  You can confirm this by clicking on the Apple located at the top left of the screen and choosing "About This Mac" from the menu.  You should see a window appear with the text "Version 10.9.1" near the middle.
If it says "Version 10.9.1", then you've installed Mavericks.  It still says "Download" in the App Store because you can still download the operating system after installing it.  This is useful if you want to download it for a friend, or create a USB boot drive.

  • Failed to verify preflight file ... App Store broken after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded my OS X to Mavericks and the install was very smooth. Since then, however, I cannot update any apps or purchase new ones in the App Store. I receive a message saying "Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple. The application will be available from the Purchases page." Unfortunately the same thing happens when I use the Purchases page as well.
Am I doing something wrong or did something break with App Store after my installation?

What worked for me was changing the certificate preferences in Keychain Access (open Keychain Access app and then go to preferences).
I just changed both of the first two options to 'Best Attempt', they were originaly at 'Require if certificate indicates'.
    Hope this Helps

  • App Store broken after updates

    OSX 10.9.5, App Store Version 1.3 (201.7)
After updating some software, the App Store broke, looks like the CSS is not loading. Furthermore, "Some updates could not be installed automatically" - the App Store icon shows "1" in red circle, in it the Update part also shows "1", but clicking on Updates icon displays nothing.
I've sign out of App Store, and after than i cannot sign in back (connection failed).
Also, the suport page in safari looks broken too:
    Please advise
    Marcin

Following the updating of a number of iPad apps on my MacBook Pro today (April 18) I had EXACTLY the same problems occur as mzagor described in an earlier post. Everything seems identical in my screen displays to the screen shots shared by mzagor, with the addition in my case of the iTunes Store not loading and throwing up error message windows stating that,  "iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "init.itunes.apple.com". The certificate for this server is invalid. ..."   7 additional similar certificates follow as iTunes attempts to log in to other Apple servers.
I spent over an hour on the phone with an Apple tech, not knowing that others were having a similar issue as I. We almost got to the point of reinstalling Mavericks - but I balked at that. The well meaning tech suggested that this could be a hardware issue and that I should have the computer checked at an Apple Store (90 minutes away).
    HOWEVER!  on this same MacBook Pro, I can, using a DIFFERENT User login (which had been previously created) successfully log into;
    -  the iTunes Store,
    - the App Store, and get to
    - the Apple web site Support section through Safari,
without any issues or error messages and with the each of the screen displays showing up as they should. I can log into my Apple ID account without issue.
It would appear that there is a connection to the stated difficulties I am experiencing, with the act of updating apps using the App Store in Mavericks (v10.9.5)
Hopefully, the issue will be acknowledged and a solution will be found and shared quickly.

  • App store doesn't work since Mavericks Update.

I've been looking all over for a solution to this problem. Ever since I upgraded to Maverics on my 2010 iMAC, the app store is effectively dead. It takes a
long time to load the app. The icons (updates//purchases, etc) across the top do nothing and sometimes call a spinning ball of death. I can make it work by logging out (not even a restart) and logging back in again. It will work for a little while, then go out to lunch again. I've tried various fixes, including
         resetting PRAM
clearning out caches/cookes and such that are appstore releated. (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5523685?tstart=0)
fixing the permissions of the home folder (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22861032#22861032), which only confused the snot out of Carbonite.
changing DNS to point to google's servers rather than my ISPs
boot into restore partiion and reinstall Mavericks.
The only think that works is logging out and back in and using the app store app before doing much else.
Starting the appstore app provides these messges in the appstore.log file

Interestingly, I have 5 machines running Mavericks (2 iMacs, 2 MBAs and 1 MBP) and only one of the iMacs shows this problems. All of the other machines work flawlessly.
Is there any solution to this problem? It's driving me nuts.

  • App Store crashing on launch after Mavericks update

Hi all. I upgraded to Mavericks about a week ago and haven't really been using my macbook pro since (its a late 2008 or 9 model, I don't remember). Anyways I have to use it now while my PC is being fixed and the app store crashes upon launching with what appears to be a similar crash log each time. I will attach the log in here somewhere. If there is a way to re-install the app store manually I might be able to fix it, otherwise I'm hoping you apple guys and gals can help me out. The app store is crucial as I'm sure you're all aware. Thanks in advanced.

  • App store not working after installing Mavericks

After I installed OS Mavericks the app store no longer responds. This means I cannot install any of the updates. The notes app is also not working. I can start the programmes but they do not respond or close. I have to literraly close them through the activity monitor.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Is there a fix for this?
    Kind Regards,

  • Why can't I get the "Install App" button in the app store to work for OX Mavericks?

  • Fail to download iPhoto on App Store...Os X Maverick 10.9.2

I just recently updated to Maverick. Everything works great except when trying to download iPhoto keep gets fail messages. i already made purchased iPhoto and is in my cloud but can't download it. Please help. I've been trying to download for several days already still get fail message after a few minutes in download process.

That's actually an issue with the Mac App Store,  and as you paid for the app they have to deliver it. So contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window.

You ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.
