App Store "Cannot quit while updates are in progress."

I just upgraded and am trying to update the Apple branded applications, but the process has stopped at 1 minute remaining and won't proceed.  I can't quit the App Store app, and therefore can't reboot either.  I will probably just force-quit, but I'm concerned it may cause some of my apps to malfunction.  Anyone have any advice?
Apple support - this might be a bug.
Cheers!

Well, I just waited and waited.  It finally finished whatever it was doing and allowed me to close the app and reboot.

i have a mac desktop 27" on osx version 10.5.8. I want the new app store but when i do updates it says i am all up to date. How do i get the app store

You must upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later to have access to the Mac App Store. And, this will be necessary if you plan to upgrade to Lion.
You can purchase Snow Leopard for $29.00 at any Apple retailer or from the online Apple Store.

  • App Store shows I an update but no app is listed

There is a notification that there are two updates in the App Store. When I open the App Store to see what updates are pending no apps are listed.

If you are getting the blank app update screen, many people are having this problem over the last couple of days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps

  • I cannot change apple id when the app store asks me to update anything

i cannot change apple id when the app store asks me to update anything

App Store products can only be updated by signing in to the store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to download them. You can't update anything, including your own purchases, as long as there are pending updates linked to the other ID.
If you can't sign in with the other ID, you have to delete all the apps that are linked to it. If you don't know which apps those are, see below.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    3. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
    4. At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Delete each such item by following the instructions in the Apple Support article linked above.
    5. Quit and relaunch the App Store.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • Mac App Store cannot update any app

    Hello!
I have a major problem with the Mac App Store, ever since I updated to OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Whenever I want to update any of my apps which I had purchased/downloaded from the App Store back in Mountain Lion, I get an error like this:
This happens with all my apps, and I really need Xcode and the iWork suite for my projects. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have already tried clearing the App Store cache by getting rid of the com.apple.appstore folder, resetting the entire app by enabling the Debug menu. Nothing doing.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • ML App Store prevents quit

Just installed Mountain Lion. Started App Store to check for updates and started downloading a garage band update.
After starting the download, and noticing the very large download size, I reconsidered and wanted to quit, but the new App Store prevents shutting down "until OS updates are complete". I had to force quit App Store through Activity Monitor.
I can understand this prevents corruption of the download, but how about a method to continue the download at a later time?

Why Mac App Store cannot resume broken transfer?
Everyday I start download of xcode, at the end of day it archived several hundred MBs, but the next day the download start from 0 again, it took me two weeks and I'm still trapped in this!

Quit the App Store if it's open.

Click the lock icon bottom left corner of the pane. You may be prompted for your admin password.
Select:  Mac App Store and identified developers
Click the lock icon to prevent further changes.
Relaunch the App Store. From the App Store menu bar (top of your screen) click Store > Check for Unfinished Downnloads or follow the insstructions here >  Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads
If you still have problems ...
    -  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed

  • After installing mavericks apple id is greyed out in app store when trying to update iPhoto

after installing mavericks apple id is greyed out in app store when trying to update iPhoto. How to update iphoto?

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • App store cannot install iTunes 11.1.4 - but says that it has done so

    Bizarre behaviors
    1. Cannot install iTunes 11.1.4 - App Store says that the update is available, but it also shows that it HAS been installed 3 times before! Actually it is NOT installed; 11.1.3 is installed.
    2. When I clicked "Update" (for the fourth time in the last few weeks) nothing helpful happened, I could not access "About This Mac" and the computer eventually froze.
    3. iWork - App Store says updates to the three ".1" versions (e.g. Numbers 3.1) are available, and also that they are installed. Actually they ARE all installed.

I'd mark this as a Solution, but for some reason, I often do not see the option to do that (I posted about that sometime ago, nobody could figure out why -- just another weirdity). Anyway, apparently the new build here has fixed the problem, at least for Windows Vista folks. Thanks to both turingtest2 and Eric W

  • HT5248 The App Store doesn't show update 9.2 for Pages - What could I do?

When I open pages, I get a notification that I can update to pages 9.2, but when pages opens the App Store, the store doesn't come with any update.
I think it is because I have installed pages via an installation disk.
How can I make pages update to 9.2?
Thank you for answering my question!

iWork '09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
You can also download the standalone updater from this page.

  • Yosemite App Store error will not update large item

Had a problem I wish to share with the community which I was able to solve and it points to a particular error in this first release of Yosemite which may strike many other users.  I am on a DSL connection and it's unreliable.  Usually App Store is good about pausing or restarting downloads of large updates but on a couple of occasions, it refused to update a few items (Xcode and Pages come to mind) and this is what I found to be the problem...  LAUNCH PAD!
If App store refuses to install or download an update, for some reason there is a direct connection with this problem and launch Pad.  Go into Launch Pad and look for the item you are having trouble with.  Click its icon, double click its icon, or if those don't work, hold alt and click the X on the corner of the item's icon then if its deleted from your Mac, go back into App Store into the prior purchases area and redownload it again.
I hope this helps someone else.  I know figuring out the connection between Launch Pad and update issues took me forever to figure out.  This may save someone out there struggling a lot of time to know.

I would try with some basic troubleshooting....
    - restart your computer
    - verify that you are connected to the internet, by launching safari
    - if you are connected, quit all open applications, then only open the Mac Apps store
    - try to install just one software update
NOTE - when connecting wireless, you are going through a router.  The router may have some of the "ports" blocked that are required to get these updates, and therefore connecting to the internet direct wire, would be my next step in troubleshooting
