Apple 5W USB Power Adapter

This may be a dumb ? but I can't find a answere to confirm if the Apple 5W USB Power Adapter is also a surge protector or not.

It's not advertised as such, and I certainly wouldn't rely on it to function as one.

  • Apple iPod USB Power Adapter - ?

    Hello everybody!
I've got a problem with my new iPod mini and I hope you may help me.
After updating the new software for my iPod Apple told me to charge the battery with a Apple iPod USB Power Adapter which I don't have.
I tried to connect the iPod to my computer (Windows XP) but there's always the picture of the adapter on my iPod. I've tried to reset it, restart the computer and so on ...
But the display always shows this sign of the adapter.
I hope you can help me, I'd be very greatful.

    iPod mini   Windows XP

but it's already worked with my computer, the iPod worked alright, so I don't think that I need this stuff you've just named.
The iPod will work just fine without those things.
It's the update/restore process that needs the A/C adapter.
Anyway, you don't need to listen to me if you don't want to. I won't be insulted.

  • No DHL Here - Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange Program

There is no DHL shipping center where I live but the message I got from the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange Program is to ship via DHL; what should I do?

Mine was delivered by Fedex, with instructions inside to call DHL to pick it up for the return. Well, I don't have DHL service in my area either. After calling Applecare 4 different times in one day and spending I don't know how much time on hold, I finally talked to a human, who's expert solution was for me to take it to the post office!!!!! I explained that it had a prepaid DHL sticker on it, he said he didn't know why the Post office wouldn't honor that, or maybe I should call Fedex to come pick it back up, they would probably honor the DHL sticker too? I suggested that I would be near an Apple Store the next weekend and could take it there myself, he put me on hold for another 25-30 mins to check with someone to see if this could work. When he finally came back, he was pretty sure it would, if not they could just have DHL pick it up from them, since they use them anyway. This should not be this hard. I was sold a defective product, give me my better improved product and a simple way to get rid of the one that is going to kill me and my family without me having to make 4 phone calls, be given no real solutions to my problem, and in the end I have to come up with the answer myself.....Wonderful customer service.....

  • Apple 5w vs apple 12w usb power adapter?

Which should i buy for my ipod touch 5 the apple 5w or apple 12w usb power adapter?

Apple has not said. Unless the charger has a very small output, like less than 500 mA, charging rate is controlled by the iPod.
    The 5G iPod has a 1,030 mA-h battery
Apple says it charges to 80% in 2 hours
That would mean a charging rate of about 400 mA/hr neglecting charging efficiency
So I guess about 500 mA/hr with efficiency included.

  • How do you change the fuse in a UK Apple 5w USB Power Adapter?

How do you change the fuse in a UK Apple 5w USB Power Adapter?
Ours has stopped working and we presume it must be an internal fuse, but how do you access it as there is no 'slots' as on the 12w version?
All UK power devices must be fused to comply with regs but I can't work out how you open the 5w adapter to change the fuse.

This is the power adapter I have http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD812B/A/apple-usb-power-adapter
Is it really only a 12 month warranty? Seems a waste and environmentally criminal to throw away an adapter without being able to check the fuse!?

  • Apple iPod USB Power Adapter? how many miliamps?

i read that the 5th gen ipod vid. likes to have 1000 milliamps for recharging, and then even a little more. does this adapter provide that much or is it just like pluging into the computer via usb2 (which i read only provides 700milliamps)?

I think he was only correcting your 700 ma statement.
    Here is the adapter page.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60939
I am interested in where you read the recharging current the 5G iPod likes to have? The amount of current only changes the amount of time used to charge an iPod. As long as the minimum is supplied (that the internal charge circuit requires) it doesn't care what you do. A wall charge usually means it will charge faster because more current is being output in most cases.
In this case a USB 2.0 port supplies 500 ma and a USB Wall charger supplies 1 amp. They both work fine since I use both for my 5G iPod.
This is speculative from my knowledge of charge circuits we used in engineering design. Without knowing the exact specs of the charger circuit and a schematic I can't tell more than that.

  • HT4060 5W USB Power Adapter Model A1400

Apple 5W USB Power Adapter Model A1400 is equal as the Model A1300?

Well, after checking Apples site, I think it should be OK. It appears to work for both devices.

  • Technical Specification of the USB Power Adapter

Hey guys/gals, do you know the exact technical specifications of the "Apple iPod USB Power Adapter"? I want to know its Voltage Input Range, Voltage Output, Power Output (Watts) and Pin Assignment, i.e. which pin is +V, NC and GND. Thanks.

The USB Power adapter isn't a smart device - much more like a charger: The only way to switch it off, is to unplug it from the A/C outlet.
But you may leave it pluged into A/C: Nothing will happen except a small consumption of electricity.
ad 2: You may view a video through your connected TV set, but there will be nothing like a TV menu to select it - if you want this feature you have to buy a 3rd party docking station.

  • Can Shuffle play while charging on Apple USB Power Adapter?

    Hi,
We would like to purchase a shuffle (2nd gen) to play continuously music on hold to our company's telephone system. The Phone system's audio-in jack is compatible. I've connected my 1st Gen iPod shuffle to the phone system, and it plays fine.
We will not be able to plug the shuffle into a computer, so we will need to plug it into the Apple USB Power Adapter.
Is anyone doing this? Does it work? Any problems?
    Thanks,
    David

Equivalent solution: Apple Universal Dock + Griffin DOck Adapter for 2nd Gen Shuffle + USB Power adapter
Just need to remeber to set the switch in either charge or play position...

  • Can I charge an iPod Classic 3G with the Apple USB power adapter?

I have just buy an iPod Classic 3G with 15  GB (SN JQ4239GQQQF) from ebay.
I have read that it's posible to sync it with my PC with Windows 7, but, It is not possible
    to charge it by usb.
I could charge it with the Apple USB power adapter?
    Thanks

With that particular model, only the Firewire cable and connection will provide power to the device.  The USB cable is only for syncing.
Using the iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable
Here is the cable you'll need.

  • Old Apple USB Power Adapter with new nano

Hi. I have an older Apple USB Power Adapter (model A1102) that I've been using with an Ipod Mini (bought it with the mini a long time ago). I have a new 3G nano on order. Will this power adapter work with the new nano? Or will I be forced to buy a new one?
Output from the adapter is 5V - 1.0A
    Thanks

Since I also converted from a Mini to a 3G Nano, I thought I'd give you a couple of pointers; I probably spent a couple of days preparing my existing mp3 library (and that says nothing about videos).
    1) Make sure all of your mp3's are NOT marked read-only and load everything you want into the NEW iTunes
    2) Work on collecting/saving the NEW things like album covert art and lyrics (I sometimes use the lyrics area to list musicians/personnel)
    3) Re-construct your playlists and SAVE everything (iTunes actually writes back to the mp3 files--that's why you don't want them read-only)
    4) Only then start messing with videos, because they tend to crash iTunes depending on your hardware, OS, etc. (for example, iTunes doesn't work well with Vista). My best advice for videos is use a 3rd party converter (like Nero Recode) to ensure iPod format compatibility; don't even waste your time with iTunes for anything that isn't a downloaded/purchased item.
