Apple Aluminum Wireless keyboard and startup options

Does the Apple wireless keyboard allow the various choices on startup, e.g., "option" or "c" or does this require a wired keyboard?

  • How do you clean the battery tube for the Apple aluminum wireless keyboard

We have an Apple aluminum Wireless keyboard. My daughter said the weak battery signal came on and then while later the keyboard stopped working. I had a difficult time loosening the endcap whre the batteries are stored. When I finally got it open, it was appearant that one of the batteries had leaked. Now the keyboard does not work when I insert new batteries. The corrosion is in the area of the last battery (closest to the opening)and on the cap. What is the best way to clean this up?

I just had this same problem. I had much difficulty getting the third battery out of the keyboard battery tube due to corrosion. Despite a rubber mallet and some careful tapping of the keyboard on a hard surface, I resorted to a few drops of vinegar.....after a minute or so I was able to pop the last battery out.
There was light corrosion along the inside of the tube which made putting new batteries in difficult, and besides if I were to force the new batteries in - I would be facing the same problem next time. So, I ended up using a shotgun cleaning kit to clean the tube. I attached a 20 GA bore brush to the cleaning rod and ran it through the battery tube a few times. Blew the tube out with compressed air, and inserted the new batteries. The wire bore brush worked like a charm as I am typing this reply on the keyboard. Just thought I'd mention the idea.

  • Apple Aluminum Wireless Keyboard Pairs, but letter/number keys don't work

I just got the new Wireless keyboard and I paired it, and the Function keys work fine, and when I was pairing, the number keys worked as well(to type in pairing code). But when I try to type in any search box or type anywhere, it won't. even the numbers won't work. the Tab and Delete keys work though. Along with the function keys.
The funny thing about this is that the number keys worked when i was pairing, but not now. Also when I start up my Mac and have to type the password in, the letter keys worked. But once on the desktop its a no go.
    Please help.

24 hours later, the initial fix resetting the Universal Access settings as discussed above, the keyboard proved to be so flaky, that I took it back to Apple and exchanged it for a new one. The weakness seems to be in the bluetooth communication perhaps, with the keyboard accepting the new settings and then forgetting them somehow. So if you are a user reading this thread and you aren't getting any joy from the solution above, the solution is to take/send the keyboard back to Apple for a new one. The one I have now works just fine. It paired up much more quickly and it is typing this note without any issues. So far. I also picked up a wired keyboard in case I have to throw this one against the wall if it starts screwing up like the other one. Either way, I am covered.

  • Is there ANY wireless mouse that will work with the iPad 2 and Apple's Wireless Keyboard?

I have the iPad 2 and Apple's Wireless Keyboard and would like to purchase a wireless mouse that will accommodate my Apple products. I do understand that Apple's Magic Mouse is not compatible with the iPad 2, but would like to hear if there is any possibility that i could use a wireless mouse with my iPad.
      Thanks :)

You don't have to purchase a mouse. You already have one, it's wireless and the only one that will work on an iPad.

  • Wireless Keyboard and Mouse how to for XP Bootcamp

The promise of running Windows XP was marred by my inability to get the wireless keyboard to function in Windows during startup. Judging by the number of posts on this issue, I am not the only one who is frustrated. While didling with this issue I developed a sure fire, if somewhat un-Apple and in-elegant, way to get them to work.
First you need to create a driver disk using the latest version of Bootcamp (I used version 1.1.1) and install them under XP using a wired keyboard and mouse.
Now re-install the Apple Bluetooth drivers to make sure you have the latest version:
    1. Boot into Microsoft Windows.
    2. Open the Control Panel and select Bluetooth Devices.
    3. In the Hardware Tab, click Apple Built–In Bluetooth.
    4. Click the Properties button.
    5. Click the Driver tab.
    6. Click the Update Driver button and the Hardware Update Wizard will appear.
    7. Choose "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)".
    8. Deselect "Search Removable media".
    9. Select "Include this location this search".
    10. Click Browse.
    11. Navigate to c:/Program Files/Macintosh Drivers for Win XP/BthKicker/
    12. Once the update is done, reboot.
Next we need to add the Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard (and wireless Mighty Mouse if you have).
    1. If you are using a desktop Mac, connect a wired USB mouse and keyboard.
    2. In windows, open the Control Panel and select "Bluetooth Devices".
    3. Turn Bluetooth Discovery to "On"
    4. Make sure your Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard is on.
    5. Click the Devices Tab.
    6. Click the "Add"button.
    7. When the "Welcome to the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard" window appears, select the "My device is set up and ready to be found" checkbox, then click Next.
    8. Locate the keyboard in the list the Wizard provides, then click Next.
    9. Connect and select the "Let me choose my own passkey" option.
    10. Enter "0000", then click Next.
When the process has completed successfully, you will see this message: "The Bluetooth device was successfully connected". You should now be able to use your keyboard.
On your next reboot in Windows, the logon screen will come up and neither your wireless mighty mouse or wireless keyboard will work. To activate the mouse, click one of it's buttons once or twice and it will start after a couple of seconds. unfortunately keyclicks will not start the keyboard.
To get it to activate, turn the keyboard upside down and use the switch to turn the keyboard off and back on again. Wait about 6 seconds and voila! As I said, not elegant, but definately a lot better than having 2 keyboards. It would be nice if Apple could modify the firmware to start the keyboard when a key is pressed, just like the mouse.
    Have fun!

  • Magic mouse and aluminum wireless keyboard not working in windows 7

Aluminum wireless keyboard (fully upgraded firmware as of 2/19/2010) not working, or magic mouse. Both from Apple Store, not amazon or ebay.
No error shown for magic mouse, only "connecting to device" for 15 minutes now.
With keyboard, at times it shows an error, but sometimes it lets me type a passkey. It doesn't recognize the passkey although it's saying it's paired, it doesn't work.
    Help?

Getting Bluetooth set up initially in Bootcamp is a bit of a hit and miss affair in my experience, but persistence pays off, and connection is reliable. I gave up with the keyboard on my Mac Pro at one stage, tried again a few days later and it worked.
    How did you do it?
Persistence and repetition, reading lots of threads and getting snippets from various sources, can't recall any silver bullets.
Have you searched this forum, there are a LOT of posts on the subject.
Links please? I can't find any.
If you type "bluetooth" in the search box while at the top level of the Bootcamp section you will get six pages of hits. Here are just a few, not necessarily the best or a complete list or in any particular order, but they contain relevant info.
I can't remember the detail now but one of the key steps for me was launching the bluetooth "service" mentioned in some of these links. Initially option wasn't appearing at all. Also mine (and others) seems to need a single click after boot to be activated. If you try and move it before a click it won't respond so you might think it wasn't working.
BTW I am assuming you have successfully installed the Boot Camp 3.1 drivers?

  • Apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse disconnecting

Just bought new MBP Retina Display (OSX 10.8.2) to replace 1st Gen. MacAir.  Used to use Apple Wireless Keyboard and MM on old Air and worked flawlessley for years.  New MBP installed both of these older items (keyboard and MM) cleanley when I set up, but almost instantly, after about one minute of working, the keyboard and MM disconnect themselves and the only way to reconnect is power them off and then power back up.  I have hanged the batteries on both to high end ones and they are still holding charge very wel.
In my office I have a work PV that also uses two USB wireless devices for the PC keyboard and mouse and then also a small HDX Jam Bluetooth speaker.  Also, my iPhone and iPad are around.  My Airport Express is about two feet away from the MBP as well.  Again, all of these worked just fine with my Air for over five years.
I took the MBP, keyboard and MM into the Apple store and had them check it out.  Of course it worked perfectley while I was there, plus I learned that in my new MBP the wireless card has the bluetooth built into it and unless my wireless connections got wonky, then the chances of it being hardware were slim.
I am so out of options.  I have tried to identify all environmental factors.  I have tried moving the MBP closer, further, etc. and still nothing.  It is the wierdest thing and now getting very frustrating because I am having to use the MBP keyboard all the time and it is supposed to be up on a stand and in a more ergonomically friendly position.
Anyone got any suggestions?  Is there something I am missing?  Is there something in my environment I am unaware of that could be contributing to this?

I have a 15" MBP Retina display from 2012, Lion 10.7.5, running lid closed with bluetooth mouse and keyboard.  My desk configuration has not changed but in the last couple of weeks I get both devices disconnecting simultaneously, once or twice per day.  The dashed bar disappears from the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar.
I turn bluetooth off and on (lift the lid, using keypad), and then it all works again.  I don't need to even touch the mouse or keyboard they instantly reconnect.  It is not the magic mouse battery problem, I've suffered through that and have it licked, and that would only take out the mouse.  There's nothing obvious in the system logs.  No change I know of in nearby electrical appliances or WiFi configuration.

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

  • Apple wireless keyboard and iPod Touch 4th gen. compatibility?

Can Apple's wireless keyboard work using an ipod touch 4th gen? Both are bluetooth compatible and there's a pages app for iPod/iPhone? Just curious.....

I've found the answer - funny enough on Bose's website.
There is a compatibility chart here http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/pop-up/PopupiPod_compatibilitychart.jsp
So the 4th Gen Touch DOES work fine with the Original SoundDock

I would not waste time trying to troubleshoot the problem.  Since it is new, call Applecare with a warranty problem.  I had a similar problem with a new KB some time ago and it was replaced at no cost (shipping included).

  • I have Mac Pro 2007, which have no bluetooth hardware. What should I do to use Apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse??? Can 'third party's internal bluetooth card' be used for this purpose? Help please...

I have Mac Pro 2007, which have no bluetooth hardware. What should I do to use Apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse??? Can 'third party's internal bluetooth card' be used for this purpose? Help me please...

You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).

Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.

Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • Does VM Ware Support Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

I downloaded VM Ware from Apple.com. I got to my Windows XP Home login screen, but I could not move the mouse to login to the XP Computer. I had to restart the computer by holding down the power button because I was, "stuck." Does anyone out there know if VMWare is compatible with the wireless keyboard and mouse? I'm using Leopard and Windows XP Home SP 2.
    Thanks,

  • Are the apple wireless keyboards and mac book pro keyboards the same size?

Are the apple wireless keyboards and the mac book pro keyboards the same size? I have the most current wireless keyboard and I use it with my iPad. Thanks in advance

I took it to the same shop where i purchased they sent it to the apple
service centre and it is a week and no one informed me abt the problem
    or the action on it.
We are mainly just users to users here, and sometimes a Apple folk will respond, but it's just a direction to a Apple support document, no service or account issues are handled here.
Will they replace the mac book pro as it is still in warranty
We don't know what Apple will decide to do in your case, the best source of information is the shop you brought it to.
They might be in the process of fixing it, or they might be deciding they need to keep your machine for investigation.
Apple will take care of you, make sure you buy AppleCare and a external drive for TimeMachine if you haven't already.
