Apple Care put a scratch on my laptop!

I just recieved my laptop back from apple on Wed/Thu (Stratford, London store) , i still have a my receipt etc and i just noticed they put a scratch ontop of my laptop! I am 100% sure that i never did that and before i gave it to them, it wasn't there.
What makes me more suspicious is that someone tried rubbing it out with some water as the stain was around the scartch. I am the only person in the house, is there anything i can do about this? Please let me know.
Thank you in advance

Take it back in and ask to speak with the manager of the store.  Explain to them that you noticed this issue when you got home and had time to closely inspect the laptop.  It not out of the ordinary for people not to notice small things like this when they're in a public environment and rushed in/out of the door or there's noise around them.  Your mindset is in a different state and it's not until you're calmer that you start to notice small things.  Explain your issue and have them fix it.  Explain that it even looks like someone tried to rub off the scratch.  If you get nowhere with that, write a complaint email to Apple corporate relations and they'll rectify the situation one way or another.  You may have to press a little though.

  • Can Apple Care be transferred to another laptop?

I purchased a MacBook Air and Apple Care for it. I now want to sell my MacBook air and buy one with a bigger memory - can I transfer my Apple care protection plan to my new laptop, as I sitll have over 2 years remaining on it?

Yes, and you must notify Apple in writing.

  • Apple Care (and registration) disappeared from Apple Profile

Seems like Apple is really going down after Steve Jobs departure.
Been having a lot of issues, this is just one of them.  First, my registered products disappeared from my product list.  When I had to register them again, it says that I am not covered by Apple Care, which I purchased with my laptop.  Now I can't get in touch with Apple for my other problems.
This is really getting frustrating.  My next product will not be an Apple.

If it's just a glitch it can be sorted out.  Call up AppleCare, and tell the Advisor that you did have APP registered, but that it got stripped off somehow.
If you still have the reg #, or the receipt, etc, then they can transfer you over to the Agreement Administration, and get it sorted out for you.

  • When I try and Share a project, I get a Quick Time Error -50  Any Ideas?  Apple Care is scratching thier heads.

When I try and Share (export) a project, I get a Quick Time Error -50  Any Ideas?  Apple Care is scratching their heads.

Okay, after several hours on the phone w/ Apple Care includiing nearly 10 hours on Wednesday, we finally figured out why I would get a Quicktime Error -50 when I tried to share a project out of FCP X.  The problem was in the music track that I had in the project.  I ripped a track from an audio CD, put in my iTunes then imported into the FCP timeline just as Apple says to do.
The problem is; iTunes default rippping codec is AAC.  FCPX can't handle AAC compression.  I had to re-rip the audio CD to a uncomressed AIFF file, bring that back into my project and then FCPX could share the file and do it's own copression.
This was a new discovery for Apple and FCPX.

  • I have two apple id's one from my old laptop and one from my iPhone. I saved my iTunes library to my external hard drive and then tried to transfer it to my iMac. My music skips like a scratched cd now and I can't add any to my iPhone. Help please!

I have two apple id's one from my old laptop and one from my iPhone. I saved my iTunes library to my external hard drive right before my old mac laptop died and then tried to transfer it to my new iMac. Now when I try to play my old music it skips like a scratched cd. Also, now I can't add any music to my iPhone unless it was purchased recently through itunes and downloaded through icloud. I tried to "Organize" my library in hopes of correcting the problem but my iMac just ejects my external harddrive part way through. Please help!

    Ejects the harddrive?
Of what did your old Mac die?
It sounds to me like you have some file corruption somewhere.  Either in the transfer of your library to the external or the external itself is flaky if it keeps ejecting.

  • Scratched on the back of my MacBook Pro, can I get this fixed with Apple Care?

    Hello community,
today I found out there are some scatches in the back my aluminum MacBook Pro. There is one fairly deep scratch. This has probably happened in my backpack since I use it for school.
My question is: is this something Apple Care will help me fix? If not, how much will it cost to get a completely new back.
    Regards,
    Alwin.

That damage is not covered by AppleCare.

  • HT201269 I am not finding my backup of my Iphone 5 that I backed up in itunes. I need to put the old information on my replaced phone from Apple care.

I am not finding my backup of my Iphone 5 that I backed up in itunes. I need to put the old information on my replaced phone from Apple care.

the itunes back up can be found in preferences/devices on ur itunes
the preferences can be reached by going to:
    windows pc: edit/preferences
    mac pc: itunes/preferences
check ur icloud as well in case u had the 'back up to icloud' option checked instead of the 'to this computer' option when u backed it up to ur itunes.
if neither of those have ur back up then ur back up is not in that pc and not in ur icloud for that apple id. it might be somewhere else (another pc maybe) or it doesnt actually exist.

  • Apple Care Protection Plan for new laptop?

I just purchased a MacBook Pro 13", I was just wondering how long I have to purchase an Apple Care Protection Plan?

Up to one year from date of purchase - however, if you don't buy it withing 90-days of purchase, you'll only get the 90-day phone support. I usually buy AppleCare when I buy a new computer - 3 year warranty, 3 year phone support.

  • Apple Care plan for MBP

Does anyone know why the Apple care plan for MBP is more expensive than all the other Apple care plans? Even the Mac Pro has a cheaper plan. It doesn't make sense to me.

It's obvious to me. My Mac Pro sits in one place, undisturbed. It has a generous, efficient cooling system. It's easy to service.
My MacBook Pro is carried around town. It's jostled back and forth in my bag as I walk, or as my car goes over bumps. I'm always putting it on tables, creating a slight impact each time. It goes through a lot more power/temperature cycles as it sleeps and wakes. The components are smaller, tightly packed, more expensive to disassemble and service. A laptop goes through a lot more stress and trauma than a desktop, so a laptop is much more prone to failure.

  • Life after Apple Care

Well, my Apple Care on my June 2009 MBP is finally due to expire in a few weeks. Is there anything I should take advantage of before it expires, or anything I should know about maintaining my computer later?
I don't have any particular symptoms, except that I still have the original 2GB of memory and so I never upgraded past OS 10.6.8.  This hasn't been a problem for me, as I'm using the laptop less and less as I use the iPad for most routine stuff. So I see no need to upgrade the MBP unless there's a good reason to. Any info on the continuing functionality of Snow Leopard?
If/when I do decide to upgrade, is installing memory oneself recommended for someone who's never opened a laptop before? Is it generally safer to have the experts do it, and should I do it now under Apple Care?

Depending upon use, if near daily and moving it around, dusty environments, cat hair, not using external devices like keyboards and mice, then yes, it can go in 3 years.
More like 5 years if used less and in a pristine manner, except Apple puts the screws to the machine with a OS X upgrade that can hobble it or break it.
Can you explain more about why Firefox?
It's a free third party web browser from  Mozilla and it gets updates for OS X 10.6, unlike Apple who has abandoned Safari for 10.6 users.
It's fast, it gets security updates (sometimes in hours) and it's the most customizable and powerful browser.

Firefox is the "people's" browser, packing more add-ons, personas, themes than any other browser.

Don't like ads? Or popups or anything else? There is likely a addon that will take care of it.
I use Firefox because I'm hard of seeing, so I've customized it so I can see everything nice and clear, Safari is very hard on the eyes as it's so tiny and black on gray.

  • OptiBay V.S. Apple Care

    Hi
I just bought Apple Care and now I have extended guarantee for overall 3 years. Now I want to buy the MCE OptiBay and add a second HardDrive (Intel SSD X25M) to my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2008. Do I lose the guarantee with this installation, or is this okay and I have nothing to fear about the guarantee.
thanks for your time, Happy New Year!

Well yes & no. I'd make an educated decision based on what had gone wrong. If the screen was broken for example I'd say that wasn't the optibay - but then again if the connectors to the DVD drive (where the optibay plugs in) appeared damaged I'd take it on the chin and pay for it myself.
On the AppleCare front - I never buy AppleCare as my laptop is renewed every year anyway, I rarely go beyond the 1 year warranty.
Essentially if you make changes to your machine that breaks the warranty you have to take the risk that you can't get something repaired under warranty don't you?
I accept that risk personally, as I think it's forth it for the flexibility I gain from the configuration. Others may of course think the risk is too great.
It would be pretty impossible to tell if you'd put an optibay in, taken it out again and put the DVD drive back in. The MCE OptiBay only has a single screw securing it whereas the SuperDrive has 3, so you need to make sure you keep the screws.
Like I say, it's an educated risk.

  • AC Power Cord -- how not to get Apple Care replacement - is there a written policy?

I had a cord about 8 years ago that was replaced by Apple Care (it no longer charged the old Mac Powerbook).
Well, my power cord a few laptops on (my present MacBook Pro 2011) needed to be replaced (the connection at the end where the cord meets the body appeared worn -- maybe I streched it out or kinked it too much).   And so I checked here and googled other forums to see if I could take it into the Genius Bar rather than deal with Apple Care on the phone.  It appeared from the discussions here and elsewhere that Powercords were sometimes replaceable, and sometimes not.
The Genius bar refused to replace it.  I'm not upset because, as a temporary measure, where the cord was worn, I opened up the insulation to see if I could adjust the wiring to get the to work.  Tweaking it did get it to charge for another few days (work deadlines!) until I could get to the Genius Bar.  But it's probably because I opened up the insulation that they balked at replacement.
    So it goes.
But I do wish Apple Care would've covered it.  It's not super expensive but in this crummy economy, every little bit helps.
Maybe it depends upon the luck of the draw:  who you get to accept (or reject) the return?  Or is this thing warranted only in a "discretionary manner"?  Is there a written policy?
I guess I could try to go through Apple Care on the phone, but I'd have to send my old cord back from what I can tell, and then might get charged for the new one?
Anyway:  just a recommendation:  if you're cord is on the fritz, don't tamper with it to try to get it to work:  you might endanger your chances of getting an Apple Care replacement.

It really depends on how you treat the objects you own. If you kink/bend/twist the MageSafe end of the AC charger what do you expect. There are no kinks or bends or twists in my AC charger and it is 16 months old and wrapped up almost daily to be put in my bag.
