Apple HD Cinema Display not working

Hello everyone, I bought a used Apple HD Cinema Display a few months ago and I have been using it with no problems in Leopard with my white macbook (late 2007). I have recently installed XP using bootcamp (the display was not connected at the time of install) and now I am unable to get the display to work in XP. All I get is a black screen. Can anyone help me with this please? Are there any drivers that I may need to install in XP to allow it to work?
Thanks!

  • Apple 23" Cinema Display not supported by Windows Media Center Edition PC

Well I'm learning the hard way and of course that is through experience. I just found out after purchasing my 23"Apple Display and talking to the Apple Support Tech is that Apple does not support the Cinema Display with PC's,
Wish Apple would be more transparent on this issue prior to a costly purchase. For example on the Apple site listing the Display in system requirements:
Windows PC and graphics card that supports DVI ports with full single-link digital bandwidth and VESA DDC standard for plug and play setup
Well I have a Windows PC with a Nvidia Graphics card just as the system requirements state. Yet my PC will not adjust to proper resolution for the Apple Display. The graphics card works fine. Its a driver issue where the Apple Display is not compatible with Window Media Center Edition on Windows PC's
So in conclusion the system requirements for Windows PC's that Apple is stating For Apple Cinema Displays is not correct. The system requirements need also to state that the Apple Cinema Display does not work with Windows Media Center Edition (MCE)
Hope that helps for any users with Windows Media Center Edition thinking or already have purchased an Apple Cinema Display.

    Well,
Here is the latest from Nvidia Customer Care educating users on the DVI port on the Nvidia GeForce FX 5200:
"...The basic difference you will see in these ports are in their Physical appearance. The DVI-D has less pins compared to the DVI-I port connector. Also the Apple 23" Cinema Display will work at a resolution of 1920*1200. But this graphics card that is Geforce FX 5200 will not support this resolution of 1920*1200. It will support only till 1600*1200. So that's the reason you were having the issues were you were not able to adjust the resolution"
So I ask, which Nvidia GPU card can I substitute for the current one at a reasonable price? I don't need dual link, so single link would be sufficient for my application . Here is some more helpful tips from Nvidia support. Hope this helps other users, utilizing the Apple 23" Cinema Display"
"...go for a Geforce 7600 GS graphics card which is a AGP 8x compatible graphics card. This graphics card is just 129$ graphics card. Please visit the given link to know about the details of this graphics card."
    http://bfgtech.com/7600GS_512.html
And now for the final conclusion of what you need to know regarding DVI ports. Evidently Nvidia uses a term called normal DVI port. I've never heard of that term in the literature in shopping for a graphics card and checking the specs. I guess you need to look for the specific term single or dual link specifically. If it doesn't say that, then what I can gather it is a normal DVI port...whatever the heck that is?
"...Yes let me inform you that the Geforce FX 5200 graphics card does have one DVI port and one VGA port. But these single link and Dual link DVI port is totally different compared to the normal DVI ports. As you wanted to connect an Apple 23" Cinema Display to this graphics card. So for this you will need to have a graphics card which will have a Single link or Dual link DVI ports not the normal ports. So to support an Apple 23" Cinema Display, you will need to have either a Geforce 6 series or the Geforce 7 series graphics card. That's the reason I gave you the list of graphics card which comes with Single or Dual link DVI ports, not the normal ports."
Oh well off to the market to pick up either a Series 6 or Series 7 Nvidia Graphics card. The Nvidia Customer Care team was very helpful and replied to my inquires very quickly through email.
Hope this long drawn out expose helps others who might have issue with connecting their proud Apple 23' Cinema Display to their PC
    Kind Regards,
    John

  • 23" Cinema Display not working.  Please help!!!!

I recently purchased a dual 2gHz MacPro Tower and a 23" HD cinema display (both factory refurbished by Apple). Everything worked flawlessly. Then...
I was away from my computer for about a week, during which time both the computer and the monitor were powered down the entire time.
Now my CPU boots fine, and I can hear it responding (when I raise and lower the volume, etc.) but the ACD won't fire up at all. The light on the front isn't blinking or anything, and I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do (I've already reset pram, replugged everything in, restarted several times, etc).
I've also done the ULTRA obvious stuff like brightening my display (which does nothing). I don't know how a less-than-a-month factory refurb that's been off for a week could go kaflooey, but any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem although it may be USB related. It started with my 2 year old 23" display not waking up when it and the computer (3 month old 15" Mac Book Pro) were asleep overnight. The first two nights this happened I'd restart everything and it'd all be fine. The next couple nights I noticed that if I just unplugged the USB cable from the display into the computer, it would all wake up and function just fine. Today (the 4th day or so, and the day I finally have time to research what the problem might be) the display won't start up at all. There is no indicator light (and never has been in these situations) on the ACD. According to my Display menu bar and my system profiler, my computer definitely recognizes that the monitor is attached (although this was not true the first time the ACD acted up). My mouse also acts as thought the ACD is online... I have now adjusted brightness, and unplugged absolutely everything and replugged it all into a different power source. Still no go... Haven't had a chance to buy a new brick, not really sure that'd work for me... any ideas?
If it were the brick- based on what I've seen on the back of my ACD, it doesn't even look like you can disconnect the cord?
and just a side note... in exploring this problem i noticed that you can choose what the power buttom on the ACD actually controls in the Options menu of the Display System Preferences... is this only for older OS's? because my display preferences has absolutely no Options menu in it...
    Thanks.

  • 20inch cinema display not working via ADC?

Heres the specs on my Mac
    Dual 450mhz Gigabit Ethernet Model
    OS X 10.3.9
    1.38GB SDRAM
ATI 128 video card -----> now nvidia GeForce 4 MX
    The Story:
I have had my G4 since it was new. I bought it with the 17" Studio Display and it has worked fine. and still works fine with both video cards mentioned above. I bought a used 20" Cinema Display. I saw the display working off an ADC connection before I even paid the guy. I brought the monitor home and tried it out. It loaded to the grey apple screen and then went blank. After some research I found out the ATI 128 only supports up to 17" display. So I got a nVidia GeForce4 MX, put it in my machine, fired it up and I get NO DISPLAY AT ALL! I plugged the 17" back in and it works just fine.
Also the guy I purchased it with threw in the apple DVI to ADC adapter, so I plugged the monitor into my Powerbook 1.33mhz and everything works just fine in mirror and dual display modes.
I am stumped. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Jus

    Hey guys,
I don't know if this will help, but here goes. I bought my 20" Cinema Display with the first G5s to come out ~ 9/2003. Lightning came in on my G5 thru the ethernet port and it wouldn't boot up. Frustrated, I unhooked everything and let the setup sit.
About a month ago I bought a G4 off ebay. It had a video card that had a DVI and VGA port--I guess it was an aftermarket upgrade. I was itching to try my 20" Cinema Display on it. So I bought the Apple DVI to ADC adapter ($99 thing). Hooked it up and sweet, screen real estate for days!
Came home a couple of days later, woke the G4 from sleep, and the Cinema Display stayed blank....f*!
I was p**d! I spent nearly $1200 for the thing, plus $99 for the adapter. I tried unplugging and plugging the adapter/display/G4 per the adapter instructions, still blank screen.
Well, today I had 3 different 22" LCDs in my newegg.com shopping cart and was ready to fork out $200-$300 for a new LCD with a DVI connection. I was convinced it was the adapter. So I thought I would try to hook the setup up 1 more time before I pulled out my debit card. I looked at the instructions again, and noticed apple pictured plugging the power cord into the adapter box first, then plugging the power cord coming from the adapter into the power source, then plugging the display into the adapter box, then plug the DVI cord from the adapter into the G4s video card (DVI-I port), then finally plug the USB cord from the adapter into the G4.
I powered up, and low and behold, I worked!!!
I'm typing this post on my 20" Cinema Display right now.
Only two things I can figure is setting the G4 and display to sleep is no good. The display and/or adapter seems not to work well with the sleep function. So I set System Preferences to never sleep for the display and the G4. Second, could there be a sensor where the power cord plugs into the adapter box? That's the only step I did different this time.
Sorry so long winded but if I can help out i want to 'cause I know how frustrated and sick I was about a having a kickin' $1200 display on the blink.
It could be just a coincidence, I'll repost if the Display goes blank again.
    peace,
    Danny

  • 24" LED Cinema Display not working with Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro (2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core, model identifier MacPro5,1) purchased in late 2010 and a 24" LED Cinema Display. The Mac Pro has three video ports--a full-sized DVI and two mini DVI. When I plug the Cinema Display into either of the mini DVI ports, I cannot get a picture, although the iSight camera works fine. If I plug another monitor into the full-sized DVI port the computer believes that is the only monitor. The Cinema Display works fine with my MacBook, so there is nothing physically wrong with it.
Is it not possible to use this monitor with a Mac Pro without an adapter, even though the Mac Pro does have mini DVI ports?

  • LCD 20" Cinema Display Not Working on MBP

    Hi people!
Somehow, the Apple Cinema Display (LCD) of 20" isn't working when I plug it to the MBP (late 2011). The monitor remains black after pluging it. Sometimes is detected by the MBP, and sometimes it isn't. Quite random thing. Same hapens when I'm in Windows, through Bootcamp. The weird thing is that I've never had this problem before and it was like being each time more often that the monitor isn't detected. Nowadays, it seems that it won't work. However, the minidisplay port is okay, as well, the monitor.
I use the monitor for work, so this is delaying my work each time more. Please, I need a solution for this since my physical existence depends on this.
    Thanks,
    Ø3

    UPDATE:
When I plug the external monitor into the MBP, the MBP automatically switches to the discrete graphic card, but the external monitor keeps black and also, the mouse pointer doesn't move to the second monitor, like if it wasn't really detected, even if the MBP automatically switches to the discrete graphic card.
Please, I need help with this.
    Thanks,
    Ø3

  • New Apple ipad air display not working, please help?

Please can anyone offer help? Week old ipad air display has stopped working after app froze and son double tapped home button to shut app down.Thank you in advance for any offers.

If you are editing/testing in the Flash editor, the html end of things is nothing to be concerned about at this stage, and will likely take care of itself when it comes time.
So you run the file in Flash and do not get any error messages?  Then place a trace command inside the button's event handler function to see if the button is communicating with it....
    function b_1ClickHandler(e:MouseEvent)
        trace("button works");
         navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.MYURL.com/.html"),"_self");
Also, I'm just noticing you don't have an actual file named in the url, so in case the "not working" is that you can't get the desired page to show, that may be the cause.  Normally I would suggest testing url links online rather than in Flash because it's iffy to try to get the web involved with the editor at times.

  • 24" LED Cinema Display not working on new MacPro with GT120 graphics card

    Dear All,
I have recently purchased a new Mac Pro Quad (2.66 GHz, 6mb DDR3 1066 MHz RAM) with a 24" LED Cinema Display. When powering up the computer for the first time, the display was blank. I swapped it out with a 23" Cinema HD Display, and it worked fine, so I thought it might be the LED Cinema Display itself. However, when I tested the LED Cinema Display on my MacBook (Model 5,1; INTEL Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz), it worked like a charm.
Has anybody seen this behaviour? I'm assuming that it's a software issue (since the GT120 DVI adaptor works with the Cinema HD Display, so the mDVI adaptor should be good). [I also rebooted and wiped the PRAM and NVRAM, to no avail.]
Any and all help would be appreciated.
    Best,
    Drew

Thanks for the reply--I've done that before, for sure.
An odd thing did happen when I reset the PRAM & NVRAM a second time--it worked. Maybe I did it wrong the first time? Anyway, it's working perfectly now. Many thanks.

Can anyone tell me whether the new Apple 27inch Cinema display will work with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 for Mac? I will use this on a MacPro with 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” and CS5 (Adobe recommends the NVIDIA). It seems incredible that it doesn't for whatever reason.

You will need a dual-link DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter.

  • My macbook is back from repairs. It is not working with my apple led cinema display. It was working prior to the repairs on the laptop. Is there a setting I don't know about that might have been changed?

My macbook pro is just back from repairs.  It is not working with my apple led cinema display. I have followed the directions in the cinema display manual.  am I missing something?

Take a look at the Displays preference panel to see if everything is ok, particularly the resolution and refresh rate.  Displays will probably try to put the panel for the ACD on the ACD where you won't see it.  So click "Gather Windows" to get the ACD panel on to your macbook.
One more thing, make sure you fully seated the mini displayport plug.  They can be sneaky little devils in that they need to be fully pushed in.

  • 20" Apple Cinema Display not recognised after upgrading to OS 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)

20" Apple Cinema Display not recognised after upgrading to OS 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).
Hello Apple! Anybody there? How long does your community have to wait for a solution?
The same problem has been unsolved for months now. No statements from Apple either.
I was told today to wait for 10.8.3. This might solve the issue. I can not belive my ears.
My MacBookPro 4,1, Intel Core 2 Duo with 2.5 GHz Processor and Graphics chip: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, will not talk to the exter. 20" Cinema Display ( Model Number A1081 ). The screen stays black. Resetting the PRAM did not help. I removed the 'com.apple.windowserver.plist' and the 'com.apple.windowserver.OE35739etc,etcxxxxxxxxxxx.plist', but that did not help either.
Any other solutions, or do I have to downgrade or give up on Apple Computers alltogether after using them for over 25 years?

I found out that I needed a $100 mini displayport to dual-link dvi adapter to make my $30" cinema display work with my macbook pro
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter?fnode=51
When I found out that solved the problem, I took it back because that was too expensive for a stupid adapter, and it still didn't work perfectly.

  • Cinema HD Display not working - flashing lights

    Hi
Ii have two 23" cinema HD displays on the mac listed below. they have worked fine for ages, but today i turned on and one of the displays did not come on, instead the power light flashed periodically with a long pause then a short flash, long flash and short flash.
i have searched for solutions and i found this article for LCD displays:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2811
which stated that this kind of flash means the power adapter isnt working, but i tried swapping the adapted/power cord with the other display without luck.
    this other article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA40898?viewlocale=en_US
which states it may be the backlight, but i wanted to try here to see if there was any other potential solutions, if not whats my best bet with getting it resolved?
    things ive tried:
i tryed the problem display on it's own to make sure it wasnt a problem with having dual screens, it still didnt work.
I tryed swapping the power adapter, the adapter seemed to work fine with the working monitor, and the other one didnt help with the faulty display.
I tryed both display sockets in the back of the mac to make sure the connection to the mac wasnt the problem.
i thought the cable which runs to the display to the power adapter may be worth trying to swap, but while i thought this was removable i couldnt seem to disconnect it from the back of the display and didnt want to pull too hard incase i broke it is it fixed?

I had the same issue and appreciate your links, thanks. However the indication (short-long-short) was not accurate. I switched adapter with no luck, but when I switched to another 23" Cinema Display it worked fine as in your experience.
There has to bee something else wrong with our monitors. I was lucky, we had two others standing around so I'm all set.
I have no other information that might help you, sorry.
