Apple, let us downgrade to iOS 6.0!

Well, this battery drain issue is coming from iOS 6.1 to me and it seems that it is common on almost every iPhone model (4, 4S, 5, etc). It maybe not the iOS itself, perhaps from this version, the iOS gives some opportunity to some Apps to do some stuff in the background that kills battery. Some of us have this kind of apps and having battery problem, other don’t.
My iPhone battery was good prior to iOS 6.1, with 5 hours of usage and even up to 5 days on standby! After upgrade to 6.1, it loses 2~3% battery every hour on standby and only lasts for 1 or 2 hours of usage before dead. It is not as bad as some who lose 10% of battery every hour on standby, but to me, the battery life has reduced to one quarter of past.
I am sure Apple is working on it and iOS 6.1.2 seems to be an urgent upgrade to solve, but I knew it won't solve my problem, because I don’t use the Exchange account and the update aimed to solve that issue.
I think the best solution is that the Apple gives us the choice to downgrade to iOS 6.0 until the next stable version is ready to go. This solution will give the Apple the time to find and solve the problem and gives us our phones back to use.

This is my recent test:
I charged the phone to 100%, unplugged it and set the Airplane Mode to ON and guess what? It is 11 hours now and the battery is still on 100% of charge!
I am using 2G network and the signal in my area is very good (full antenna). Maybe the problem is in communicating with the BTS towers and nothing related to apps or settings or hardware.
It is obvious that the Airplane Mode saves battery, but maybe in recent iOS updates, it is the 2G network connection that drains the battery more than usual.
What do you think?

  • Please let me downgrade to iOS 7.1.2 (iPad 2)

I made a mistake to trust Apple and installed iOS 8. Yes, my fault and I'm very sorry about thad. Wish I could make it undone.
I made the mistake to think, Apple knows better than me what will run on my loved but old iPad 2.
I was hoping for iOS 8.1 to solve my problems but my iPad is still slower than before. So I guess, iPad 2 and iOS8xx don't fit together.
WHY not downgrade my little old friend to an OS that was working fine???? PLEASE!!!

I am struggling exactly with same problem and have same wishes. For me the iPad2 is not old but just 3 years young. I also trusted Apple that if they let me upgrade ios from 7 to 8 this should not degrade perfomance that dramatically , specially wifi speed by factors (up to 10). I was very content with 7.1.2 and actually only upgraded to be in the loop for internet safety and these kind of issues. I dont need all these new features. I simply want web browsing, e-mailing and other low level activities.
At present my home and professional work I do with apple products (iphone, ipad, imac and mac-air). That i moved 10 years ago from Windows to Apple was the strength of a company that develop software and hardware that fits to eachother and have perfect operations. IOS Does not fit to the hardware anymore and Apple ignores: THAT IS A DISASTER!
Conclusion: I certainly wont go for any new apple products anymore after experiencing this diasaster.  If Apple doesn't solve this problem very quickly then they show clearly their disabilities of a real, serious innovating company which it was maybe 10 years ago but lost it after Steve passed away. At present they only show design, lots of fun crap, but no serious service. The last is most important for a company that will survive on long term. Just acting as a company selling expensive products but no long term compatibility and badly adapted of hardware with software. These kind of policy is typical for cheap acting, non serious companies.
The spirit of Steve J. has already got lost. Maybe they will be selling good, and make them blind but any company who behave like Apple todays ignorance will finally disgrade them very quickly to a minor player in these IT-branches. Maybe even sooner than Apple can think.
Anyway I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN APPLE!!!

  • Apple, pls let the iPad 2 owners make a downgrade to iOS 7

Apple, pls let the iPad 2 owners make a downgrade to iOS 7.
Our devices have become useless after upgrade to iOS 8.
    Thank you for understanding

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

wont let me downgrade my device. apple ipad 2 new gen 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 please fix this thank you .

I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any iDevice.

  • Apple set my iCloud storage at $40 without asking or telling me. They won't let me contact them to fix that unless I pay for support. Nor will they let me downgrade. How do I talk to Apple?

Have you actually been charged? Did you convert from MobileMe?  If so, you'll be automatically put on that plan, but revert to the free one when your current one expires.

  • In the future time lets say a month will apple let us go back to ios 6?

A question to apple HQ. Do you want your apple customers to be happy and not disapointed with the new updates. Or maybe they just want their old version that they liked back on there iphone. If you like to keep loyal and satisfide customers would you make them happy?
Out of all the people i know, only about one third of them actually like the newest update (ios7)
I am not making a biased report based on my opinions. i am simply trying to provoke apple to let us download and restore our iphones to the version we previously had, and if you like ios7 so be it keep it.
If apple would let their customers choose between the new updates and the old, A lot of people would be satisfide and they would want to stick with apple. and when a new update come out you can choose to upgrade or downgrade. Isnt it our freedom to choose the update we want?  yes I chose to update, and maybe i dont like it, but will apple let their customers, like me, choose what they want to be happy?  Will apple let us go back to what we want?

    You cannot downgrade.

  • Will apple make downgrade to IOS 5.1 available, IOS 6 too buggy to tolerate?

An option to reload IOS 5.1 should be made available if Apple wants customer satisfaction. IOS 6 is not stable enough. Apps crashing, wifi problems, battery life, oh yeah no satellite view in weather apps purchased. Not to mention how bad the new maps are! Come on Apple throw us a bone!

iOS 6 works perfectly fine for me.
    Regarding your maps issue,
Apple is constantly working on improving their new Maps service, but until it reaches the level of finesse necessary to be usable, take a look at some alternatives.
If you would like to send a suggestion to Apple, please go to http://www.apple.com/feedback or you can Report a Problem via the Maps app by tapping the bottom right.
Bing Maps offers a very good maps service with Bird's Eye, a feature similar to Flyover. It's arguably better than Google Maps.

  • How to downgrade from ios 8.0.2

how come there is no way to downgrade from ios 8.0.2 to ios 7 !!! i don't think its legal from apple to close the way back
but let me ask may be there is something i don't know
is there any way back to ios 7.1.2 ????
    thanks
    kh

There is no way to downgrade. Apple probably doesn't allow it because then people would downgrade a lot. People rarely like the new update when they download it. Also, Apple doesn't support past iOS things…So if someone is on iOS 3, Apple wouldn't support fixing problems or whatever (if I remember right).
So, sadly there is no way to downgrade. Sorry!

  • I would like to downgrade the ios

Before a couple of weeks I have upgraded my ipad 2 to ios 6.1.3 , and I am not pleased with the performance and I would like to downgrade to ios 6.1 , but when I restore the ipad, an error pops up "ipad could not be restored . an unknown error occured (3194)"
I have asked some expert, and it appears to be something to do with "shsh blobs"....????
Why apple is complicated! If some would like to downgrade, he should have the ability to do it easily, insted of jumping from discussion blog to another! trying to find an answer for simple problems!!!

i've heard you can put your ipod into DFU mode by holding the power button for 3 seconds then keep holding the power button but press the home button and hold it for another 10 seconds then let go of power button and hold the home button for 15 seconds. itunes will pop up saying it has discoverd an ipad 2 on recovery mode and must be restored right click restore and pick your ios version that you need to download ( i will put link) and then hit restore and it should work.

  • Hey, constantly since I installed the iOS 7.1 upgrade, my iPhone has been constantly shutting down and I think it's really frustrating and I whant to know how I can stop my iPhone from shutting down so I can downgrade to iOS 7.0.4?

Hey, constantly since I installed the iOS 7.1 upgrade, my iPhone has been constantly shutting down and I think it's really frustrating and I whant to know how I can stop my iPhone from shutting down so I can downgrade to iOS 7.0.4?

7.1.1 is certainly compatible with the iPhone 4. Just try a reset first.
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Should I downgrade from iOS 6.1.3 to 6.1.2? Because some apps won't open. It keeps on crashing.

Tap tap, GarageBand, and other apps won't open. Is it about the firmware?

You cannot downgrade the iOS since it is not supported. This support article explains how to trouble shoot 3rd party apps on the iPad.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1702
If all third party apps will not open, try downloading another app. Any free app will work or any already purchased app that is not currently on the iPad.
If the troubleshooting article doesn help, I would try this. Close all apps and reboot the iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
