Apple Mail in 10.8.2 not playing nice with MS Office 2011

After upgrading to 10.8 I am having some issues opening MS Office attachments in Apple Mail. When I click on any Word, Excel, or Power Point attachment I dialog box pops up stating "The attachment could not be opened....." I can choose which application to use to open the document, cancel or save. When attempting to choose the application, Office application are not available. The only way to open the attachments are to save them and open from the saved location or through the application itself.
Anyone running in to this issue or have an idea on how to sync up Mail and Office?

One thing springs to mind....
Had you previously moved the folder "Microsoft Office 2011" out of the Apps folder? or moved any of the Apps out of the "MS Office 2011" folder to somewhere else?
If so, try moving them back.

Yahoo has hundreds of mail servers. Trust me on this. The problem is Yahoo. Just because you can acces it from a web browser or in a client on your PC does not mean that you're hitting the same server you do with the phone.
Your phone doesn't care what your password is. If it's being rejected, it's being rejected by the server you happen to be communicating with.
All you can do is try removing and re-adding the account and waiting until it clears up.
While you wait, set up a free gmail or iCloud e-mail account.

Is apple working on a fix so it plays nice with internet security and filtering programs?

Question is in the title.
The conflict that causes us to disable internet security and filtering programs to get iTunes Store to open. Is that planning on being resolved?

None of us know, and you won't get an answer from Apple on here. We are users just like you. Although not everyone has problems with that, I know I didn't when I used iTunes on my PC.

PixelsPerPx does not play nice with customizing the Toolbar.

I have a MacBook Pro and the screen has a very high number of pixels per cm^2. The screen is great, but the high pixel density often makes website text very small and hard to read.
So, I used about:config to edit <layout.css.devPixelsPerPx>. Setting it to 1.1 or 1.2 "dumbs down" the resolution, but it makes things readable again. This is a great option - please consider adding it to Preferences or otherwise making it easy to use.
Here is the problem: when I try to customize my toolbar (View > Toolbars > Customize), Firefox crashes.
If I reset <layout.css.devPixelsPerPx> to 1.0, then I can customize my toolbar with no crashing. Apparently the PixelsPerPx option seriously conflicts with View > Toolbars > Customize.

ok, so YOU have to avoid any 'eye candy' that is beyond the abilities of THEIR systems/browsers..

Firefox 4 is not playing well with Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop.

Since I loaded Office 2010 Firefox 4 has been acting up. Sometimes you can click on a FF4 window and it will not activate. Other times, when you are trying to select an item from a listbox, you can not select it. The listbox closes without anything being selected. FF4 worked fine until I installed Office 2010 32-bit. (from the HUP program so the price was right.) IE9 seems to work fine.

If the excel version in the Connection Manager is Microsoft Excel 2010 (.xlsx), we should use Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB provider.
We can't install 32bit and 64bit parts of office on the same machine. We will get an error as you said when we run the installer to install the 64bit version of the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable in the machine where a 32bit version

Safari not playing nice with extensions, etc. since doing a "Reset Safari"

So Safari's been giving me beachball a lot — dozens of times a day — sometimes just a few seconds, sometimes a minute or more, even on simple tasks like closing a tab, or scrolling (especially on a page with several images).
I finally decided to try Reset Safari to see if I could kick it back into shape. While the performance has improved slightly, now I'm having other problems:
- To open Preferences with a key command, I have to hit CMD+[comma] twice. The Safari menu flashes the first time, but nothing happens.
- During some sessions — usually when Safari takes longer than it should (30+ seconds) to launch — several preferences I've added are missing: Safari Cookies, Safari AdBlock, and SafariSource.
- Even when those added prefs do appear, I cannot reach Safari Cookies at first. I click on it, and it's highlighted in the preferences toolbar, but the pane doesn't change. I have to click on another extension, then click back to Safari Cookies to see the actual pane.
- When I can reach the Safari Cookies pane, it doesn't work. Resetting Safari killed my Favorite Cookies list (arrrggghh!), but now no cookies are shown at all, ever, in Safari Cookies. (I uninstalled and reinstalled, and that didn't help. In fact, it made it worse, as now Safari Cookies says it's version number is 0.0.0.0 instead of 1.6.4).
- I already chucked com.apple.Safari.plist. No dice.
I'm stumped. Looking for help.

several preferences I've added are missing: Safari Cookies, Safari AdBlock, and SafariSource.
Many Safari users have reported problems using Safari Adblock. In fact, it's been the cause of Safari crashes. You can view the results of a forum search here.

To remove that plugin go to /Library/InputManagers. Move the Adblock plugin to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and try Safari.
Get GlimmerBlocker. Compatible with Snow Leopard and Safari 5 and it's free.

If you still have problems with Safari after removing AdBlock, then uninstall SafariSource. That could be another source of the "beach balls"...

3D games (Minecraft) not playing nice with Nouveau or Nvidia-304xx

New to minecraft and 3d gaming on linux, got it up and running. With the nvidia-304xx driver, I can play a few minutes then it spikes the processor and I only get 0-3 fps (before it spikes I get 60-70). I tried various in game settings, from full graphics to minimal and nearly every thing in between. Read the wiki and it stated there were some issues with the driver and to update the LWJGL or just switch to nouveau. Updated the game libraries and had the same effect, switched to nouveau and it would crash after world selection. I found an old forum were they launched the game as sudo, thought I would give it a whirl, and it does launch. I am in the video and games group, so I don't know why there would be a permissions issue. Minecraft is the only game I play on this computer and would prefer to have nouveau working. Any help would be appreciated

System is a corei7 i920 with 6GB ram (desktop). Graphics card is the oldest thing in there but don't really play many games. Runs torchlight and psychonauts on full graphics with no issue. I did try updating to 1.5 prerelease since my original post to see if that would help (didn't). I noticed that the nvidia-304xx has an updated version in testing repo that I am going to try once I get a chance. It does seem that the higher I turn the graphics the faster it hits, so my current settings will give me about 10-15mins before dropping to 0-3 fps, full graphics gives me 30sec-2min, and every thing off gives me about 30min (but at that point all aesthetics are lost and isn't as fun to play)

HP laserjet P2035 on airport express not playing nice with Windows

I recently bought a new HP laserjet P2035 and hooked it up to my network via the usb connector on an airport express 802.11n. The Airport Express extends my network created on an Airport extreme 802.11n dualband.
I have a MBP 13 and it prints fine. The problem I have is with two PC's. I installed Bonjour on both of them (one on Vista and another one on XP) and they started to print fine. The next day, only my Mac was able to print. Nothing changed whatsoever. Only that I turned off the printer for the night.
I checked and both Windows machines and the printers appear just like they did the day before.
Any ideas?

We love apple email, but it does not play wall with other venders when you want to use your own domain (lags, disconnections, etc.)? What vendor should we use to make it push and work well? We want to stay with Apple Mail.

Help, our AppleMail does not play well with other Vendord to use our own domain. iCloud mail works great, but so far others we have tried lag, disconnec, etc. not nearly as good as icloud mail. Should we try exchange or office 365 plans with Apple Mail/ a lot more expensive?

Microsoft Exchange is the best business solution, Office 365 will give a hosted version that works well, as you noted it is not the cheapest. You should also look at Zimbra, an excellent service.

In Apple mail, the attachment symbol does not appear in the list of sent items. So you cannot sort sent emails based on whether or not they have an attachment. Is there a way to fix this?

I think my question wasn't clear. I know how to display the attachment header (I use classic layout) but the problem is that the paperclip icon does not appear against the messages that contain attachments. See screenshot below. The attachment column is displayed but is blank. These are my sent items and I know for a fact that most of them have attachments. Can you help?

When searching in Apple Mail, sometimes a get a few results (with many missing), and sometimes no results at all.
I had absolutely no problems before with Snow Loepard.
I have reindexed mail and my startup drive. I have followed discussions regarding this matter and tried everything - a waste of time.
This is VERY serious for me - I have many thousands of messages that I archive and need to reference for work and clients, and now I cannot find them.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
There will be no audio output in safe mode. The question to be answered by the test is whether any devices are listed in the Sound preference pane. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

IDevices Not Play Nice Together

I have an iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and a new (bought today) Apple TV.
I'm having trouble getting them to work with one another.
The iPhone & iPad arenot showing up in iTunes (Windows) even though I've attached me via the cable and check Sync Wirelessly.
The AppleTV is not showing up either in iTunes - Home Share is enabled on both iTunes (Windows) and the Apple TV. (as well as the iPhone and iPad)
I can get the AppleTV to connect to the iPad, but not the iPhone. AirPlay Mirror is not available via the iPad however.
I've gone through all of the Knowledge Base solutions I can find, and still unable to resolve any of the issues.
I'm out of ideas. Any Help giving is greatly appreciated.

OK, I figured it out... I too have a dv6000 with Vista and I have been trying to fix this terrible itunes video playback thing and this is what I found. For whatever reason the NVidia driver in the dv series doesn't play nice with Vista. They say that they are looking into it but have no response other than that. Somehow the data from the hard drive isn't fast enough. So, reading this I figured that if that REALLY is the problem that I could use a external drive and have the videos come from there, and Voila!! It works like a charm, no skipping, no stalling, no more blue screens. I hope this is helpful, I know what a pain this can be.
Let me know if this works for everyone else.
