Apple remote desktop not working

Just upgraded to Mavericks and can not use apple remote desktop.  I bought my copy of ARD from the store.  Anyway of getting this fixed?

Hi ikarous79,
If you are having issues with Apple Remote Desktop under Mavericks, you may want to make sure you have updated to ARD 3.7, which was just released recently. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Why is Apple remote desktop not working?

I have 4 machines in a remote office that I need to connect to using ARD 3.6. I have a VPN connection working and am able to successfully control all but one of the machines. I have checked all of the settings and have confirmed that the Mac that ARD is not working has all of the same sharing preferences as the machines that are working. All of these machines are on the same network. All of the machines are running OS 10.8.x. All machines that I am able to connect to are running 10.8.3 but the one I can't is only at 10.8.2, but that is only because I haven't been able to remote into it yet to perform the OS update. The weird thing is that I can see the unresponsive Mac (can see the IP address, the version of ARD, OS version, etc.) but I simply can't connect to it to control or observe using ARD. I am however able to use TeamViewer from a remote Windows PC.
Can someone provide some ideas as to what  to check and or how to fix this? TIA.

Do you have remote login enabled?
Have you tried using the kickstart command to restart the ARD Client?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2370?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If it's not enabled you will need to call a user or someone at the location and have them check the box to enable remote login.
In the past the ARD client has 'stalled' forcing me to restart the agent. Another option would be to have someone restart the machine for you.
I have actually had to use ssh to uninstall and re-install the client software due to corruption or ??.
Let me know what the outcome is. I see this was from May so let me know either way.
    Thanks

  • Can't get Apple Remote Desktop to work

I cannot get apple remote desktop to recognize my lab computers.  It only recognizes one in there and all the info is the same on the others.  It sees them but it says they are offline when I have them all on and ready.  I did an update to make sure they were up to speed. I am running ARD 3.5.2 on mine and 3.5.2 on the snow leopard macs and there are some just leopard macs in there running 3.4.
    Thank you in advance.

Sorry, but no, ARD does not have a "remote printing" feature. You can use ARD to copy a file to a remote Mac and than take control of that Mac to print the document, but you cannot print directly to the remote Mac (unless someone else here knows a trick I've not discovered).
Depending on how your wife's company has things set up in their connection to the Internet, she may be able to just set up printer sharing on the work computer and print directly without needing ARD at all. A utility such as Slink may make that easier:
    http://slinkware.com/
I use Slink and it works quite well.

  • How to configure apple remote desktop to work on 3g instead of wifi

    Hello,
Can ARD be used with 3g to access my iMac from my macbook?
If it can be done, could someone please help with info on how to do this or set it up?
    Thanks a lot..

when you use ARD at home can it wake the iMac from sleep?
What do you have the DLINK DIR-615 plugged into? (dsl modem, cable modem, extra)
So there are a couple ways to connect to a computer behind a router such as the dlink. One option is you configure the iMac to be the DMZ. The nice thing about this is you don't have to configure any ports. the bad thing about this, is any service your hosting on the mac is internet excess-able. the 2nd option is to configure specific ports on your router to be sent to the iMac. This give you more control over what services are access-able on the iMac over the internet; but it's also more work to setup.
Here is the manual for DLINK DIR-615,
page 32 explains how to setup a DMZ.
pages 27 and 28 explains how to setup "port forwarding."
Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products. if you chose the port forwarding, you'll probable need to use this document to figure out what ports you need to open. Here are some of the ports you would probable need to open. there would probable be other ports as well.
    3031
    TCP/UDP
    Remote AppleEvents
    eppc
    Program Linking, Remote Apple Events
    3283
    TCP/UDP
    Net Assistant
    net-assistant
Apple Remote Desktop 2.0 or later (Reporting feature)
    5900
    TCP
    Virtual Network Computing (VNC)
    (Unregistered Use)
    vnc-server
Apple Remote Desktop 2.0 or later (Observe/Control feature)
Screen Sharing (Mac OS X 10.5 or later)
    5988
    TCP
    WBEM HTTP
    wbem-http
Apple Remote Desktop 2.x (see http://www.dmtf.org/about/faq/wbem)
I'm not sure if the time capsule will be able to wake the computer over the internet; because it's not the router. the DLINK is.
Keep in mind, that even if you do configure your mac to be reach-able over the internet. Most internet connections change IP address. That's call DHCP. in short it's like trying to reach some one who hangs around different pay phones, but doesn't have a cell phone. In short, you can't really reliably get ahold of such a person.
If you call your internet provider they can tell you if your internet connection is static or DHCP.
If it is, there are things you can setup to bridge the gap between static and DHCP. That's called dynamic DNS, But ones you look at the cost of such a service; your probable going to find logmein cheaper, and an easier to configure solution. Because you don't have to mess around with your router, or configure port forwarding, or mess around with dynamic DNS.
You might even find out to run dynamic DNS your going to have to have your iMac always turn on any way. It's not that hard to configure your imac to be on, but have the screen off.
    good luck

  • Apple Remote Desktop not connecting to O2 Wireless Box

I've successfully got Apple Remote Desktop to connect to, view and control various Macs connected to numerous routers.
But the O2 Wireless Box doesn't want to play ball and I simply can't figure out why it won't allow me to connect.
Using http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/O2/O2-TG585v7/Apple_Remot e_Desktop.htm as a guide (this was the only O2 router it referred to), I'm forwarding ports 3283, 5900 & 5988 but I simply can't connect using Apple Remote Desktop via the Internet.  It just sticks on 'Connecting...' and then goes to a failed message.  It suggested that, perhaps, Remote Desktop isn't enabled on the other machine ... but it is.
It seems to be something very odd about the router (it doesn't even allow remote management of the router as O2 removed that functionality fearing it was 'too dangerous' to allow the end user access to this) and I'm wondering whether there's something else I need to do to make the connection.
Can anyone give me as guidance on this please?  It's driving me crazy!

    Hi Jason,
It is often difficult to explain a problem, so don't worry. Let's break it down.
Firstly, does ARD work when you are at your place of work? - can you control a mac?
    If so, this is good.
Ok, from work you need to access your router and find your public IP address, you only have one. You will often find this is the status page.
The IP is usually a class A address starting with 80 or 90, but this obviously isn't always so, depending on your ISP and region. make sure you are not using the router's local lan IP! You will also need to make sure your home router is allowing ARD ports through!
You now need to port forward the ARD ports to the mac you want to control, which I believe you have done. For example, port 3283 > IP address of remote mac.
I know when I did this, I just opened up all ports for a couple of minutes just to get it working, then I locked access down. If you havn't done so then you need to enable remote management on your work router so you can configure it at home.
On your mac at 'home' open ARD, and go to file> add by address and enter the PUBLIC IP address. You will also need to enter the admin user name and password for the said mac.
That's it, you should have control.
If your macs at work and home have a firewall enabled then you will need to update your rules.
    Good luck!

  • Apple remote is not working

Video froze while watching hulu on Apple TV. I pressed the menu button and play button rapidly numerous times with no response. Now apple remote doesn't work, holding menu and right or left doesn't work either. The remote is barely a month old, what have I done and how do I fix it? I restarted my Apple TV and still no response, while watching a show by navigating with my remote app, I pressed my apple remote and saw the light would blink rapidly if I held the play button. Tried it a second time and it no longer responded. What do I do, buying another remote is not a logical option for a something I bought less than a month ago.

In the time it took my to sign up my Apple ID account so that I can ask a question and then formulate one. I unpaired and then paired my remote using my app for the 10th and now the remote is back to working...go figure

  • Apple Remote Desktop not connecting

I have set up new iMac with OSX.8.3 and released the remote administration as I did before on many other devices.
In the Apple Remote Desktop window I can see the computer and it presents itself as any other computer also, to which I have access to (available, current user etc)
However, when I try to connect I get in the LAN immediately "connection failed".
From outside via VPN I get this message:
Please make sure that the remote administration (in System Preferences "Shares") is enabled on the computer to which you want to connect. Also make sure that your network connection is working correctly.
Here, after all, is an indication, albeit an improper. I can see the computer in the list of the ARD window and that it is available. But cannot connect either
I have tried with and without firewall, with no success. In addition, in the firewall the Remote Administration is enabled.
I am little perplexed. (With TeamViewer I can connect)

Thanks a lot for your help

is the computer on and awake when you try to connect?
    Yes it is
on the new imac, have you verified remote management is enabled?
Yes I did (the computer IS visible in the Remote Desktop list, I can see what app is running, which user account is active )
if no, have you tried enabling it? (apple menu, system preferences, show all, sharing, check remote management)
    its correctly done
If yes, have you tried unchecking it, and then re-checking it?
    Will try it
if still no, is the user your try to connect with listed in remote management?
Yes it is listed (however I checked the option for all user)
if so, what about deleting and then re-adding the user your try to connect with?
    Will try that
if no, what about adding the user to the list?
I was creating already a new user, no improvement
while connected to the same lan as the imac. Have you tried deleting the computer record for the imac from your ARD, and re-adding the client?
    Will try that
Is both computers connect to the network the same way? if so, what are the IP address you get on both computers?
yes they are. We have manual attributed IPs in the same range

  • Apple Remote Desktop Not Listed in Sharing

    Hey everyone,
I'm trying to enable a laptop with the apple remote desktop service so i could connect to it from my computer. I have done this with other computers in the office and each of them had "Apple Remote Desktop" listed in the Sharing left-side pane under "Service" but this one doesnt.
    How do i add it?
    im fairly new with ARD...
    cheers.

If the system is Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, the item will be titled "Remote Management" in the Sharing preference.

  • Apple Remote Events Not Working

I have an internal drive with OS X Client 10.3.9 and a fresh install of the same OS X Client on an external hard drive. Apple Remote Events, though turned on in System Preferences, does not function across my local network when booted on either of these drives.
With a 2nd internal drive, I've got OS X Server 10.3.9 and when booted under this OS version, Apple Remote Events works as it should.
Any ideas how I can enable the proper functionality of Apple Remote Events on OS X Client?
    QuickSilver Dual 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I have discovered that an apostrophe character in the machine name created a mismatch between the network identity name and the actual name. "Ken Goff's Computer" was converted to "Ken-Goffs-Computer.local" by OS X 10.0 when I first set up my computer.
Changing the computer name to anything without the apostrophe and then editing the network name substituting dashes for spaces between words in the name fixed it.
Remote Apple Events now works across the network.

  • Apple Remote Now Not Working With MacPro

I've a MacPro (Late 2007) and it came with an Apple Remote.
I've used it quite frequently with this computer, but haven't used it for a couple of months. I recently needed to start using it once again but the computer no longer responds to the remote!
I've checked the remote and it still works perfectly with my MacBook Pro, and the battery is fine.
I've gone onto the Apple website and the support says to check in the Security plane that the infrared is not disabled - but this no longer appears there! It used to be there, but now it has disappeared!!
Was this due to one of the updates?
HELP! I need to be able to use the IR Remote once again with this computer!!

Sorry, but are you sure you're referring to the correct Mac, the minitower-case Mac Pro? There is no Mac Pro model identified as "Late 2007" - there were the first Mac Pro model introduced in August of 2006, though you might have purchased yours in late 2007. The next revision was in early 2008.
Nor, to the best of my knowledge, has any Mac Pro included an infrared port nor come with an Apple Remote.
So please confirm that you are indeed talking about the minitower Mac Pro and not an iMac, Mac mini, MacBook or MacBook Pro, all of which did come with infrared ports.
    Regards.

    Hi gourav,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please provide little more information for further troubleshooting.
Are you trying to take RDP for server session?
What’s your server and OS client version?
Did user have the access of taking Remote Desktop Session? It means we need to add the user under Remote Desktop User” local group.
In meantime you can refer below article for information.

  • Remote Desktop not working via ASA

    Hi Everyone,
ASA has 2 interfaces inside and sales.
There is ACL on interface sales that allow RDP on tcp port 3389 from sales to inside subnet 10.0.0.15.
Interface sales is attached to switch.
    I did test from switch
    2950A#telnet 10.0.0.15 3389
    Trying 10.0.0.15, 3389 ...
% Connection refused by remote host

Any ideas what can i check?

    Hi Jennifer,
I tested the RDP in both directions no luck.
    Sales has security level
    interface Vlan3
     nameif sales
     security-level 50
     ip address 10.12.12.1 255.255.255.0
    interface Vlan1
     nameif inside
     security-level 100
     ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
Ping works fine in both directions means from switch to PC and PC to switch  so this should rule out routing right?
Seems NAT is not configured between inside and sales.

  • Remote desktop not working "remotely"

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate computer I'm trying to access through Remote Desktop.
I'm able to access that computer from another computer when both are in the same LAN, but I fail to access it through the internet.
I already tried disabling windows firewall in the target computer to narrow it down, and it still fails. So the problem mustn't be in the firewall. Only I don't know where else to look.
Since I can access within the same LAN, I assume the Remote Desktop settings are fine.
This is what I did to attempt to access the pc over the internet:
    - In my router's admin console, I set up port forwarding and port mapping to work with my target computer's local IP address and port 3389 (remote desktop's port):
    - Then I used an IP lookup service to find my external IP address.
    - I tried that IP:port combination on remote desktop, with the user name from the target pc I want to use (I also tried without entering the user name, but it also fails):
I always get an error message saying that remote desktop is not enabled, or the remote computer is turned off or not available on the network. The first two are false, since I can access the computer on a LAN and it is definitely not turned off.
The firewall on my router is disabled, so I really don't know where I'm going wrong.
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thanks!!

Did you check the radion button "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop" on the recieving computer ?
