Apple TV 1st Generation: Update failed. Apple tv could not be updated
Hello,
I have a problem with my apple TV 1st Generation.
I did a Factory Restore and now i have
Software Version 2.0.2
Software Build 120
OS Build Version 8N5461
EFI Version 00DA.B04
GF Version 3.1.0/2.9.50
I wanna upgrade the Apple TV to Software Version 3.0.2 which is the last but all i get after downloading and installing the update is the same message
Update failed. Apple tv could not be updated. Make a Factory Restore
I have made over 20 Factory Restores but the same message all the time.
I changed the dns server to 8.8.8.8 and 208.067.222.222 but no luck with any of these solutions.
Can somebody help me please, so i can update my Apple TV.

I have already tried to update Apple TV by cable and I still have the same result.
I still can't update it.
Any other solution?
The most annoying thing is that it downloads the update and when it starts installation of 3.0.2 then the message appears.
Can this be Apple's servers problem or Apple's TV problem?

It is lightening fast and I have administrator access, etc. The update appeared to be running fine, going through all the steps, etc, then failed. HELP! Need ipad for my job! Thanks for any help.

Update failed. The Update could not be installed (patch apply failed). It appears to want to upgrade from 7.0.1 to 8. But when I click the link, it does not offer updates, just an entire strip/reinstall! Where is the updates page? Help?

I was syncing my iPod and got the message that an update was available. I downloaded the update and just as it was almost finished, I got an error message. It couldnt' update my iPod because the "firmware file is not compatible." What's up with this? I've never had any problems before with this iPod or with my iPhone 4S before this.
Update your iTunes to latest version.
Try restoring your phone in DFU Mode, if that doesn’t work then try downgrading your iTunes back to iTunes 8 and try again. -

My photos will not sync to my Apple TV (1st generation), ipad, iphone, or itouch. They used to be there but upon recent syncs with all devices they have all gone. I am totally baffled as I have not changed settings?
I had the same thing happen to me. It's a bug in iPhoto 9.4.2.
The first time you run iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, it "updates the iPhoto library". This sometimes tickles a bug where iTunes can see all your iPhoto albums, but iTunes thinks they are empty. Since iTunes thinks all your albums are empty, it dutifully deletes any photos from your synced iOS devices.
It's easy to tell if this is the problem you are seeing. Open iTunes and go to the photos sync panel for one of your iOS devices. If you have multiple albums checked, but iTunes shows a total of 0 photos, then you have the problem.
I spent an hour with an Apple Genius. he couldn't find any mention of this problem in their internal support system. His recomendation was to reinstall the operating the system. I suspect that this won't solve it.
The only solution I have found is to restore iPhoto 9.4.1 and the corresponding iPhoto library from your backups.
I would refrain from upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2 until Apple has a fix for this issue. -

I have Apple TV, 1st generation. Just got a Netflix account on iPhone. There is no Netflix logo on my TV. When I go to the Internet option, only YouTube and Radio are on the drop down menu. WiFi is properly configured. Updates downloaded. How do I get Netflix on this tv? This 1st gen. Thanks in advance for any help.
Sorry it was bad news - the ATV 1's were fine machines in their day and still work well.
Newer features like Airplay, Netflix support, playbcak of purchases from teh 'cloud' etc are only on AppleTV 2 or 3.

ATV 1 cannot be updated, 3.0.2 is the latest it will go. That model has been discontinued and is no longer supported for updates. FYI: It runs a completely different OS to the current model.

have an apple TV 1st generation - it froze downloading a trailer and had to be unplugged. Since then I cannot access the apple tv menu. When I run diagnostics it says it is operating properly but will not factory restore. What can I try?
Apologies, I was looking at the wrong schematic for the Apple TV 1. There isn't a button. So lets try this instead...
Remove the power cord and wait 20 seconds.
Plug it back in and let it boot (Give it 10 minutes, it's being tempremental)
Try and navigate to the the advanced menu and do a factory restore
If that doesn't work then if you are using the white remote hold down the menu button for six seconds and release this should bring up a hidden menu which will allow you to access the advanced configuration settings.
Again, if this fails there isn't much to do than tap it with a hammer to see if that fixes it (hard to believe how many times that actually works. (No responsibility taken if it breaks!, but at least you'd have a good reason to buy Apple TV 3) -

If you want to transfer something off AppleTV to iTunes you can only do that for iTunes store purchases made on AppleTV, and only if they've never synced back to itunes before - when AppleTV appears in iTunes if you right click on the icon there may be a transfer purchases option.
Annoyingly there has never been a way to use AppleTV 1 as storage like an external drive to salvage video/music/photos by manually copying them to the computer - doing so would entail hacking or dismantling AppleTV to access the drive directly and even then might be less than straightforward.
The USB port on AppleTV1 is not for connecting/transfer of data but for 'diagnostic purposes'.
