Apple tv airplay

i am having trouble with the sound on airplay with my apple tv through my macbook pro.  I can hear the audio beeps when i increase or decrease the volume but when i am playing a video, the sound does not transfer.  I had this happen before and i was able to correct it and i remember it was something silly.  Can anybody suggest anything to fix this?

Sorry, that isn't on the list of supported Macs (listed here, scroll down to "Requirements for using an AirPlay display"). The Pro models start with early 2011.

  • How to create a 'parallel' extended display through Apple TV Airplay

    Dear all,
I'm a relatively new Mac user and have not been able to find an answer to my question by looking up key words in Google or here, so apologies if this has been answered before.
Basically, I would like to know how I can project a video file or a film/TV series I am watching (for example, a video playing in VLC or a film streaming from my subscription to Amazon Prime Instant Video website, open in a browser) onto my Toshiba TV, via Apple TV airplay - whilst still being able to work on a separate window/desktop on my MacBook Air.
As a PC user slowly converting to Mac, I know how to do this on a PC by using the Windows logo key +P shortcut, choosing 'Extend' instead of 'Duplicate' and then dragging whatever video source I want to watch into the extended desktop screen being projected on my TV. I've tried doing this on the Mac by
using the multiple desktops in Mission Control (with no success, as Airplay obviously just mirrors what I'm doing on my screen onto the TV, i.e. switching from desktop to desktop as I do on the computer), or
by clicking 'Extend Desktop' instead of the automatic 'Mirror Built-in Display' on the Airplay icon on the menu bar and then dragging the browser into the extended display on the TV and hitting the 'Full screen' button of the video itself. However, as soon as I do this and click or type anything on my computer desktop, the video automatically minimizes and all I'm left with on the TV display is the browser with the initial smaller version of the film playing within it. In the 'View' tab, I've tried switching Firefox/Safari to 'Full screen' before making the video 'Full screen' too, but again, as soon as I touch anything back on my Mac desktop it minimizes. I've noticed Chrome has an 'Enter Presentation Mode' option available in the 'View' tab, which leaves the video playing full screen, but with a grey bar at the top (which is visually annoying, but still closer to what I'm looking for). Similarly, if I try to drag a video file playing in VLC, as soon as I hit the full screen button, the desktop I'm using on the Mac goes black even though I can still move the cursor on it.
I'm clearly missing a step somewhere, so any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a prolific multitasker!

    Hi _MicMacs_,
It sounds like you've been on the right track in trying to sort out this issue. I'm a bit unclear on what you are describing when you say it works initially, but then immediately reverts when you click back on something in your primary display. You may want to try sizing the window to the display instead of using the full screen option (two opposing diagonal arrows), though this will leave the window border around the screen. • Apple TV Airplay is Not Discoverable

My Apple TV Airplay is not discoverable by my iPhone 5 or MacAir 2013. I have a brand new Apple TV and Apple Airport Express (weeks old). All software is up-to-date on all my devices. The Apple TV is ethernet hardwired to the Airport Express. My macair and iphone are connected to the same network wirelessly. I have reset and rebooted the AAE and ATV, and restarted my iPhone and MacAir. The ATV at work works fine on both my iPhone and my MacAir, so it is something with my Apple TV at home.
Thanks for any tips. I am pretty technical and I have tried everything I can think of and tried tips from this forum.

    Hi there,
While it sounds like you have already tried a majority of these steps, I would recommend take a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

  • Apple TV Airplay Just Stopped Working

Apple TV Airplay Just Stopped Working.  I have a second Apple TV that still works with the same connecting devices and no problems.  Running 10.8 on my macbook Retina, iphone 5 is up to date and ipad has latest.  One day I went to connect and it wouldn't show on my macbook as an available airplay.
So frustrating, I have reset, re-connected via wifi, turned airplay on and off, checked setting on my machine, made sure I am on the same wifi network... still nothing.

BTW, I should clarify, I am specifically having a problem mirroring.  Home sharing is on and all my library is there, just no mirroring.

  • MACBOOK PRO APPLE TV AIRPLAY

17-inch, Mid 2010 is it too old for airplay the screen in the new maverick???  10.9

AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or later MacBook Pro, so you can't run it. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
To mirror the display to the Apple TV, you need to use an app like AirParrot or Beamer, which give you the same features as Apple's AirPlay Mirroring

my apple iphone airplay button doesnt pop up after update. can anyone help?

Okay... some how I got out of a previous posting that Wi-Fi was not working.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore.  Has any of that been tried?  What about a reset or restart of the AppleTv?

  • Apple TV + Airplay in Van Working

This is probably old news but I thought I would post my success with getting Apple TV and Airplay working in my 2014 Grand Caravan. When I searched for how to do this I didn't come up with much. There was a few youtube videos that talked about hooking up a small wireless access point in the van, or installing some third party device to the vans entertainment system.
I find this way to be way easier, The van comes with an HDMI port and 115v AC plug beside the second row seating on the driver side. I plugged the Apple TV in there and switched the display to use that input. Then I enabled a Personal Hotspot on my iPhone and connected the Apple TV to that hotspot. Now I can airplay everything from my iPhone to the Apple TV. I don't many movies on my iPhone so I also connected my iPad to the hotspot. Once they were on the same network I was able to airplay all the movies from the iPad to the AppleTV in the Van. I could also use netflix or youtube on the AppleTV as well, but that would use the data on my iPhone.
I also did this in the hotel room we recently stayed at. This way we could watch all of our own movies rather than just netflix.
I hope this helps anyone trying to do this, if you have any questions let me know.

Good information to have. Thank you. From a Mac laptop/desktop, the same can be achieved by creating an ad-hoc wifi network.

  • Apple TV Airplay Unbearably Cutting Out after Update

    Hi All,
I have an ATV v3 on a wired ethernet connection to my router (gigabit ethernet) on a 20mbps ADSL line.
Ever since I've had it it's been very poor for streaming over wifi, can only just handle MP3s from iTunes and videos are unwatchable. This is coming from multiple sources - iPhone, iPad, Macbook pro. Music is intermittent at best with dropouts every few minutes and often cutting out all together requiring the reselecting of the Apple TV as the output.
All of this so much so that I have to revert to the good old tactic of actually plugging in my iPhone to the stereo or Macbook to the TV. So archaic.
However, since I live in an apartment with lots of wifi signals I figured it was probably because of that. So, I hard wired in the Apple TV over ethernet and since then it HAD all been working much much with no dropouts and almost watchable.
However, after all the updates, I'm back to square one. The updates have literally rendered my €120 Apple TV useless and certainly 'not fit for purpose'. As I sit here trying to listen to a song playing from my phone, it can't even get through 1 whole song before dropping out. And by the way, I'm only sat 5M at most from my wireless point, in the same room.
5 year ago I was able to continuously and reliably stream music to a Roku Soundbridge that was basic at best. What the feck is Apple doing with this stuff? As most people, I buy Apple products because I expect them to just work and I don't want 20 mins of hair pulling, shouting frustration until I give in and have to plugin the computer / phone anyway. It's ridiculous and yet I fear it will fall on deaf ears.
    My setup.
    iPhone 5s, IoS8
    iPad 4, IoS8
    Macbook Retina OS Mavericks
    Wired Gigabit Ethernet connection
Wireless N connection for the others.
    Static IP Addressing
    Reset / Restarted everything.
    So what's going on?
    Chris

I appreciate that with knowing nothing about my network you're pushing a passive aggressive blame on me however it's out of place. I work as a System Admin for a national healthcare staffing firm and from reading your post in this thread I'm assuming I actually have more knowledge on what networking is and what could and could not effect Airplay. Also, please read. The issue is the device is restarting or powering off, how is that network related? Is it getting some demonic version of a WOL packet and powering down?
I mentioned multiple devices streaming have the issue ranging from iTunes on a PC to mobile devices. This sets off a flag right away that the Apple TV itself is the issue as many "users" are having a problem with it. Second, there was zero issues prior to the iOS 8 update of the Apple TV, also points to it not being a mystical magical network issue. Third, there's been no network changes in my home that would impact Airplay magically only when iOS 8 comes out.
My Apple TV is hard wired using gigabit on the same switch as my work laptop and NAS. Both have the same issues streaming since iOS 8 on the Apple TV. My iPad and iPhones also have issues over wi-fi. Here we're looking at two different parts of the network having identical issues with the 1 device. Once again the evidence points to the Apple TV.

  • Multiple apple TV airplay setup

If i have 3 apple TV connected to 3 TV separately, and they are connected to the same router. When i use airplay from my ipad, will all 3 TV be showing the same screen from my ipad? or can i select my ipad content to show on which TV?

If I understand you correctly, then yes. Follow the instructions below to use either Basic AirPlay or Mirroring.
Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.

  • Airplay is not working with my phone and apple tv. airplay icon no longer comes up on phone

airplay is not working on my phone. icon no longer shows up. cant play music or videos on tv from phone anymore

As the original poster, I too had issues with my iPhone 4 (4.2.1) and Apple TV 2 playing nice. The Airplay icon was visible for music, and worked perfectly. However, when watching a video, purchased through iTunes, only the "audio" option would be selectable for Airplay. After updating the Apple TV software, everything works perfectly well. When watching a video on my iPhone and selecting the Airplay icon, one of the options is to play "video" through the Apple TV, not simply audio.
It would have been nice to know that my Apple TV needed an update when I updated my iPhone 4 to 4.2.1.

  • Sound but no picture on Apple TV airplay from macbook

    Hi,
To give a little more depth to this. I was working on a presentation on my Samsung TV on airplay connected through Apple TV, I left the room and then the external display had gone blank.
I am able to connect with airplay and sounds can be played through the TV but the screen is blank. I can my Ipad and Iphone to the tv and everything works fine therefore I'm assuming I have somehow managed to sit on my laptop and done something. All software is up to date, running the latest version of Yosemite and as my other devices work I can only assume I have somehow turned off the display on my computer.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).

  • Flash media (youtube, video, etc) won't play when using Apple TV Airplay Display

I have a new Apple Tv. I have connected it to my tv and am using the tv as a second display from my iMac. The display works just fine, but if I try and play any flash based media, say a Youtube video, on my iMac while Airplay is on, it won't play.
Mind you, it isn't that I am not getting audio, it just won't play the video at all. I can even see the progress bar load fully, but it doesn't begin playing.
The second I turn Airplay off, the video will play.
This also happens with sites such as Soundcloud, and Tumblr audio posts.
    Any ideas?

I connect to Airplay Display, I select apple tv, and either mirror display or extended desktop. Doesn't matter which, both have the problem.
Then, on my imac I try to play a video and it does not work. I can even hit play on a video, let it go, and THEN turn on Airplay and it will stop playing as soon as I do.
