Apple tv and our macbooks

Hi all,
We are having a bit o f a hard time with this.
If we buy movies through our apple tv we cannot sync them with our macbook/s, so here goes our questions;
-can you buy movies (and podcasts, music, etc) on your apple tv and sync them with the macbook so that you can see them also on the macbook?
-if so, how is it done?
- we have four macbooks at home.. how many can we sync them with?
right now, in our itunes application you can see the apple tv but all the songs, movies, etc.. are grayed out.

i believe if you command or control click on your apple tv in itunes, and choose transfer purchases..

  • When we are watching something on Apple TV and our Macbook Pro turns on or off the Apple TV goes back to the menu and stops whatever is currently playing.  Any idea how to stop this?

    Any ideas?

Thanks, but there has to be someway through ITunes or something to make this not happen.  It used to not do this so something with an update or something must have changed a setting somewhere.  Anyone else have any ideas?

  • Can my husband and I use the same e-mail address/AppleID for our 2 phones, our iMac, and our Macbook?

Can my husband and I use the same e-mail address/AppleID for our 2 phones, our iMac, and our Macbook?
We share an e-mail account and would like to use the same e-mail address for both our phones, as well as our computers at home. Is this possible?
We both have itunes and apple ID's of our own right now, but since getting married, we are deleting these e-mail accounts and sharing one. How can we make this work?

You may use the same Apple ID for iTunes and App Store purchases, but using different iCloud Apple IDs is recommended.
If you use the same iCloud account on your iPhones it will sync all of your contacts, reminders, and notes automatically and it could be a pain. I don't know exactly how you would want to have the iCloud accounts set up on the Macs, because I don't know exactly how you use them. (I am assuming you share?). But you can do whatever you like, you can even keep the same iCloud accounts, etc but you may want to disable the syncing of certain items, because reminders for ones phone popping up on the others automatically would probably get annoying, but that is just me.

  • My apple tv and my macbook share the same itunes e-mail address type login.  The apple tv does not see my macbook.  I have been into itunes and set home sharing but I still have no access to my music or pictures.  any ideas?

my apple tv and my macbook share the same e-mail address type login.  I have been into itunes and set to allow home sharing.  my devices do not see each other.  Any ideas?

Have you enabled home-sharing on the ATV?

  • Can't get the apple tv and my macbook to communicate..

I have the Apple TV and my MacBook Pro set up for Home Sharing, but when I click on the computer button on the apple tv is says "Turn on home sharing in iTunes".  I am using the same apple id on the computer and apple tv.  Not sure what to do now….

    Hello!
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Region Format and make sure it is set to the same country as your iTunes Store account:
Once you have made sure that is correct, walk over to your MacBook and open "Apple menu > System Preferences > Sharing" You will see a computer name at the top. Change it to something else. Doesn't matter what, as long as you don't include characters like ^*)@^$ and such.
Restart your computer after closing System Preferences.

  • Old Apple TVs and new Macbook

I have 3 gen 1 apple TVs and a new MacAir.  It works fine for sharing movies, but I can no longer access the disk space on my apple TVs to erase movies or add movies.  I take my laptop to work everyday, so my kids cannot watch new content when I am gone.  How do I regain access to the hard disk space on these apple tv models and erase old movies and put the new ones on so they can be watched when my computer is at work.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your library may have been changed from a (primary) custom syncing library to an automatic syncing library or to a (secondary) streaming library. See this.
To revert to a custom syncing library from an automatic syncing library, simply check the 'Custom Sync' radio button under the summary tab in iTunes.
To revert to a primary library from a secondary library, disconnect from the Apple TV (Settings/Computers/Your_Library) and reconnect again (Settings/Computers/Connect_to_iTunes) - You will need to re-sync previously synced content.

  • Apple TV and my MacBook Pro. TV shows I bought from iTunes only play for 1:50 min on Apple TV. However, the same shows play full length from my iPad. What's the cause?

The TV series that I purchased from iTunes and have on my MacBook Pro will play on Apple TV for a short 2 minutes and then everything ends. However, the same shows play full length on Apple TV if I use my iPan. Does anyone know the cause of this?

    Hi mdr1976,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can use iTunes Match to access your entire iTunes library on your computer and iOS devices.
You can access your iTunes library on your Apple TV using Home Sharing, which is why it only works when your MacBook is turned on.

  • Apple TV and Ethernet issues.

I want to know if it is possible to connect both the apple TV and my macbook pro to ethernet and still be able to use airplay.  I can see the apple tv but for some reason I cannot get it to connect.  When I unplug the ethernet from either of the devices I can connect.  Please help if you can.

  • Sync new laptop with existing Apple TV and iPhone.

I have an Apple TV and a MacBook Pro (as well as an iPhone) that were all synced and dandy, until my laptop died and had to be rebuilt. Now, with a new system, I proceeded to sync with my Apple TV and iPhone and of course nothing wants to know my laptop. I tried to rename the iTunes library but to no avail.
Please help. I own loads of TV shows and movies and don't want to lose them.
    Cheers
    Heath.

i'd first contact apple support... some people have managed to make arrangement to re-download the stuff after getting themselves in such a situation.
after that you are kinda between a rock and a hard place... sycn and everything will be wiped from your appleTV... you have two options that both void your appleTV warranty..
    1) take the appleTV appart and remove its hard drive... attach it to your computer... put it inside a enclosure (USB, Firewire, eSATA)... or connect it internally via SATA etc
    2) hack the appleTV and remote into it to get the files off...
the above methods can be found online if you do a search...
as you've discovered appleTV is not a reliable storage for your files... you can't get anything off of it if something happens to your computer (officially anyway) and it can't be backup if something goes wrong with the appleTV... should always transfer your purchases back to your computer, external drives and then backup what you have on your computer... otherwise you're just asking for trouble as you've found out now.... everyday there are people asking how to store files only on their appleTV and people warning them that they are crazy to do this... and then an equal number of people ask how to get the files off of their appleTV... appleTV is temp storage not archiving, not backup... treat it as such and you are just asking to lose all your media

  • Apple tv and a local wireless network

i'm trying to set up my apple tv and my macbook pro, but i have no internet connection where i'm at currently. i assumed you could simply set up a local wireless network, so i hooked up my netgear router and my macbook recognizes and well...the apple tv kinda freak out when the wireless router is on. it doesn't always respond to the remote. when it does find the wireless signal, it frequently resets itself and then stalls out again....when i turn the router off, the apple tv functions normally....with no content from my macbook though of course......
    any thoughts?

atv2 does connect when wired directly, but behaves the same way, stalls out, freezes, resets, etc.
is there a better router to go with when trying to set up a local wireless network with no internet?
I use the Apple Airport Extreme. I love it, but many others like D-Link, Netgear..... I would look for an N router if your Netgear isn't. What is your Netgear hooked up to? That might be the problem. I also think that you might want to hook up the ATV2 wired and then restore it, and reenter all of the user and setup info afterward. It may not be the Netgear at all. If you restore the ATV2 and it still does it, then you can look at the Netgear and what it's hooked up to. No sense spending money if what you have works well. If you don't have Internet (I just noticed that statement above), I think you'll have issues with the ATV2. It has to have a way of connecting and phoning home to Apple, etc.

  • I have photos on my iPad (the first apple device in our household) and then added an iMac and a macbook air. How do I get all of my photos on all devices. Myoriginal iPad has images not on my 2 newer devices and my 2 new devices do not share the same phot

I have photos on my iPad (the first apple device in our household) and then added an iMac and a Macbook air to our network. We have an airport 2TB back up device.  How do I get all of my photos on all devices. My original iPad has images that my 2 newer devices do not have on iphoto.

My original iPad has images that my 2 newer devices do not have on iphoto.
How are the images stored on your original iPad? Are they in the camera roll, in events downloaded using the camera connection kit, or are they in albums synced to your ipad from a computer?
If the photos are in the camera roll or in events downloaded from a camera, you can transfer them to your iMac and MBA by directly connecting the iPad using USB. Then you can download the photos to iPhoto like from a camera.
Only, if your photos have been synced to the iPad from a computer, you will have to save them first to the camera roll; then you can download them by connecting the iPad via USB.
What IOS version has your iPad?
For new photos you might consider using Photo Stream to transfer your photos between the devices.

If you paid by credit card, contact the bank handling this payment
and ask that it be stopped since the provider did not actually do
anything to the computer and you are suspicious of their actions.
If the billing was added to a phone account, contact the vendor of
that service to dispute the charges against you; and cite concerns
of security, identify theft, privacy and of being scammed.
You may have to fill out forms, and see if the credit card bank will
refund or not; usually they mail them to your billing address, after
you call the bank customer service. Some are better at than others.
This could take some months to resolve, if you paid that way.
They may also have installed (or had you remove security) while
inside your Mac and its system software, remotely. If they were
able to 'scan' your Mac remotely, they may have harvested any
personal or financial information, including passwords saved to
online accounts that may have been in browsers or keychain.
On another track, complete repaired Macs of an older vintage
are not very expensive; even ones from companies who repair
them or those who have stock of repaired units...
While checking for a friend, online I found a few portables that
had been repaired and for sale by a company whose business
is to repair almost all portable Apple computers, in-house.
You can buy an early model guaranteed MacBook from reputable
repair companies with limited warranty for under $400. and that
includes a bill-of-health with an option to buy a longer warranty
for a little bit more. Or just mail in your computer in a flat-rate
postal carton with padding, to one of the well-reputed repairers
    directly. They perform a physical/software hands-on diagnostic
& repair service, tell you before they fix anything what it will cost,
what the price variables are when they do hands-on testing; as
that is a real repair. An example: wegenermedia.com online.
The Apple support site has links to the better known AASP
authorized Apple service providers, and you could look up
the ones nearest your City & Country in the Locate section.
Blue links below require additional info once in their Site to
access the Authorized Apple Service Providers who have
an actual physical presence, where they offer services..
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
Apple - Find Locations - Country Selector:
    https://locate.apple.com/country
Contact Apple Support - Apple Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Some independent providers may be in a situation to do more or
even less, than an Authorized service provider. Some may just
repair computers -- and not officially be affiliated with Apple...
Best to do the necessary research before committing to repair.
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!
