Apple TV Dropping WiFi Connection with Home Sharing

I am currently having trouble with my Apple TV and Home Sharing. My Apple TV will connect to my WiFI network (which is only 802.11g) and stream from either the iTunes store for movies, and from YouTube using that connection fine. My trouble starts when I try to connect to another computer with Home Sharing. When I try to connect to another computer (my MacBook Pro, for example, which is also on the same WiFi network) to stream content across the network, the Apple TV looses it's connection, and then the router kicks everything else on WiFi off the network. I am using WPA for WiFi security on the router. I turned off WPA, and everything streamed across the network fine, no drop outs on the Apple TV. I can stream from a desktop connected to the router via ethernet fine (with or without the WiFi security enabled). I think it is probably the router (it is just a little DLINK I picked up a little while back), but I wanted another opinion or some troubleshooting ideas before I do.

I am having this problem too, I also have a dlink router. Everything works fine until I try using homeshare, after a minute or so I lose all wifi router connections on everything connected via wifi, iPad,iPhone and aptv2. I have to wait for the router to reset/restart to use again. It's very odd, it even happens if I connect the atv2 via Ethernet so it's not a wifi glitch.
Any suggestions?

  • Apple TV no longer connects to Home Sharing

    Hello,
Frustrated and working on this issue for month - Apple TV no longer connects with Home Sharing! I have uninstalled all apple firmware and reinstalled from scratch ITunes, I have checked and unchecked Home Sharing and entered password dozens of times! I have reset all four apple TVs and I have unchecked/disabled IPV6 and it still does not work. all four Apple TVs have worked for years and somewhere along the way they just stopped.
I am running Windows 7 and the only thing that has changed in the path is the Time Warmer Arris router. Apple TV still connects to WiFi and Netflicks.
    Please help,

  • Apple TV 6.2 not connecting with home sharing to iTunes 11.3

I have looked for any solutions to help reconnect the two for home sharing. When I click on "Computers" on the ATV, it says its loading my library. After "loading" it gives me the "Could not connect" error. My MBP and ATV are both connected to the same Airport Extreme but it wont connect to my library. I didn't have this problem with the previous ATV software.
    Any help is greatly welcome.

Me too I have the same problem as MicheleP57!!!! What can I do???

  • Apple TV2 doesn't work with Home Sharing

Internet works great (can access Netflix and rent movies on iTunes) but I can't connect to my computer. (I'm using Windows 7) Here's what I've tried...
1)Made sure I'm running the current version of iTunes.
2)Uninstalled Norton and made sure no firewalls are blocking anything.
3)Opened the two ports on my router that iTunes uses.
    4)Reset my Apple TV.
5)Turned home sharing on and off and tried opening and closing iTunes.
6)Made sure all sharing is on in my iTunes preferences.
7)Plugged my Apple TV directly into my computer.
Can someone please help? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything on the apple forums that have any sort of solution that works.
    Thanks a bunch!

Last Update: I finally tried my wife's MBA. Once I enabled HomeSharing on the same AppleID, it instantly appeared on AppleTV and worked like a champ. While her laptop can see the Dell's library, Dell cant see the laptop's.
Somewhere I read that this whole homesharing thing only works if the computer you want to share is hooked up wirelessly, not via a hardline to the router (which is my configuration). Ok, so for now I have a workaround to play the Dell's library, just go thru the wireless laptop.
Please, Apple, do something about this. It's not like you to have such Windows-like configuration problems!

  • TC drops wifi connection with hidden SSID on restart/logout?

All in all I'm new to the Mac family as of January and have only one complaint...holds true to the Airport functionality in Leopard. I experienced the Airport/2Wire DSL gateway dropping wifi signal I found plenty of on the support forums.
I figured buying the TC would solve the problem yet it still is a problem if I hide the SSID? My XP PC connects fine whether hidden or broadcast, in fact I had an easier time connecting and using TC via my work PC then with my MBP? I see and connect via wifi no problems in XP parallels or my work PC, hard drive connects as well. Yet as soon as I hide the SSID after I get my MBP connected, when I logout or restart I can not find or even search for the network. I have to enable/broadcast again to get the MBP to connect. Once I hide it I'm still good until I restart or logout of any of the accounts?

    Hello:
I just purchased a new Motorola DROID 2 Global, and am having difficulty connecting it to my home WiFi network. My router is a DLINK 655 router, which I have set to 802.11n only with WPA2 encryption and I do not broadcast the SSID. I have gone through the setup process on the DROID 2 by entering the SSID on the phone providing my password etc. The phone keeps attempting to connect to the WiFi network, but just cannot do so. I have a Lenovo laptop which has no problem connecting to the network at the same time, and I have connect it many times.
If I change the router setting to broadcast the SSID, the phone will connect. But as soon as I hide it again, the connection will drop. The saved network setting on the phone will show "Not in range" even though I am standing right next to the router, and the phone connected to it just a minute ago when the SSID was being broadcast.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a solution to this problem or is this a known limitation of the phone?
A soft reset may resolve your WiFi connectivity concerns. Please remove the battery from your phone while is ON. Re-insert battery after 10 seconds. Power phone ON and allow it to register applications.

  • RE: Library Sharing with Apple TV1, no longer works with Home Sharing on.

Let me begin by telling you what I have.
Last year I took my old 2006 XServe Dual Quad 2.8 GHz and moved it in my home which is hardwired, and set it to share my iTunes library (700 movies, 700 TV Shows and 16,000 songs) to my six Macs, 3 PC's and four Rev. 1 Apple TV's, thereby creating a cheap Kaleidescape Video Server System (www. Kaleidescape.com), and it worked great. However, when I introduced an Rev. 2 Apple TV into the equation, it, the Apple TV2 does not see the shared libraries on the XServe. It requires Home Sharing. The problem begins when I turn on Home Sharing for the Apple TV2, my Apple TV1's no longer see the Shared Libraries, and I have not be able to find a solution that allows me to run both TV's. In looking through the internet it appears the Traditional Sharing that I was used to, is going away with IOS. The question then becomes, is there a work around? Realistically, I cannot see why Apple would disable this feature as it works so well, and didn't require iTunes Authorization, which is user limited. Any ideas? I would really appreciate the help.

  • Apple TV dropping WiFi connection every two minutes

    Hey there,
So I bought an Apple TV a couple days ago. Product looks great and looks absolutely gorgeous on the TV I have. My only problem (and its a HUGE problem) is that the device drops my WiFi every two minutes. Specifically when watching videos.
So in effect I cant stream any video - be it from YouTube, iTunes, NFL, Vimeo or even over AirPlay - because every time I do the signal drops and I'm thrown back to the main screen.
My WiFi pretty good. I have an iPhone, an iPad, two PC laptops and a Samsung smart phone that use the same network without any issues.
Please help me with this problem. I really really like the product but its practically useless with this issue.

Other devices working doesn't rule out a network issue.
Try connecting Apple TV via ethernet
Go to istumbler, netstumbler or similar to get a network report. Look for signal strength, noise, and nearby networks.

Replys can only be has helpful as the details provided and "I cannot pair iPad" is not even a complete sentence.  It does not sound like this is an ATV question though so you may need to be posting in a differnt fourm.

  • Problems with home sharing on my iPhone

So my home sharing keeps crashing after it gets to 50% on my iPhone. I choose the computer I want and it just sits there and loads until it hits 50% then it stops and refuses to load anymore. I first thought it was the computer I was connected to. At the time it started I was connected to my dads iMac and thought it was something to do with the apple IDs we were using on that computer. He has a different apple ID then me and I thought it was something to do with the multiple IDs. So I logged out from His sharing and logged in onto mine using my computer. After changing the IDs and restarting both my iPhone and my computer I tried it again. Same exact thing. It loads 50% and stops no matter how long I leave it for. I tried turning off my firewall and logging out of home sharing and logging back in on my iPhone. No joy. So I'm stumped. I have no idea why my phone will not connect with home sharing. Also my dads phone will connect to home sharing. Its just my phone this happens with. And this started to happen about 1 month ago when the new iPhone 5 came out. I'm also sure that it started happening after I installed IOS 6 on my phone.

Personally I think recognition of libraries has always been a bit flaky with both versions of AppleTV.
Sometimes this is down to local network issues, but sometimes, for whatever reason I think communication to say iTunes is available or not between the 2 devices is not always robust, and a restart of itunes, AppleTV, router or all can be required to kick start things.
Some people have lots of issues. I don't see that many but occasionally a library isn't available when I know itunes is running or seen and then can't be accessed.

  • Internet connection drops when I use Home Sharing with my iPod Touch

    Hi,
I have two PCs (Windows 7 and Windows Vista) both with iTunes 10.2.1 and an iPod Touch with iOS 4.3.1.
When I use iTunes' Home Sharing with my iPod Touch, that is, I stream music, podcasts, etc from either one of my PC computers to my iPod Touch, a few minutes later both laptops, as well as my iPod Touch, lose Internet connectivity. While home sharing continues, Internet connection is lost. I have to unplug my modem and wireless router to get back my Internet connection. The problem, however, recurs again and again.
    Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
    Dave

I am having the same problem. My MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and even the PC all lose internet connectivity;but home sharing still continues to function properly on ATV2.
I'm not too savvy on routers and modems, but could the problem be my router's capacity?

  • Why won't my Apple TV recognize my Apple ID when connecting to Home Sharing?

I'm out of town using my Apple TV in my RV connected to WiFi at a campground and I'm trying to connect to Home Sharing because that seems to be the only available option to me when I turn on the Apple TV.
Whenever I try to connect my Apple ID info, it gets denied with the "Error" page saying that my Apple ID info is incorrect. However, I have re-entered and rechecked the info multiple times and even tried using a different family member's ID info.
What am I doing wrong here? I just want to watch Netflix via Apple TV!

Re: Solution for Apple TV 2, Xfinity router, Ethernet connection and Home Sharing
You may need to configure some ports on your router for port forwarding. Before you do, you may want to try setting the Apple TV date and time to manual but have the time zone be the same as your computer that is running iTunes.
The link is to a more aggressive approach that will solve your connectivity problem. Your equipment may not be the same but the configuration changes is what you are looking for here.

  • ITunes sharing among iPhones with different Apple ID's one computer WITHOUT home sharing, shared folder, etc...

I feel like I am losing my mind, here. A few things I want to clear up before you read my question:
No, I am not new to Apple. Yes, I understand that Home Sharing works for any group of devices authrized with my Apple ID. Home Sharing is not my issue.
    1. My wife and I have different iPhones with different Apple IDs.
    2. We only have one computer, on which iTunes is running under my Apple ID.
    3. My iTunes library is far too large to paste into a shared folder. I keep my source folder on a 1TB external hard drive (not enough space on my iMac).
I just want her to be able to plug in and copy music onto her phone from iTunes. Home sharing is great while she's at home on the wifi, but not when she leaves. I created her own user name on my computer, set her iTunes (under her Apple ID) to pull from my library source file, and she can play everything fine, except that she cannot click and drag files onto her phone.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

iTunes Match is associated with one, and only one, iTunes Store Apple ID and country-specific store. The service cannot be shared between Apple IDs.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
If we sign up for iTunes with the one account with the majority of the songs, is Home Sharing no longer available to the other two accounts?
Of course it is. iTunes Match has no affect on Home Sharing.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    A.  What happens to the songs on the other two libraries?  Can we never use them?
It is possible to consolidate the tracks from the other iTunes libraries into one and use that for iTunes Match. Make sure the one computer that hosts the library is authorized to play any protected content.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    C.  If we purchase songs/albums while in iTunes Match, and then decide not to use Match in the future, do we lose all our music?
Of course not. Any purchases go to the purchase history for the Apple ID that bought them and as long as the tracks are downloaded and backedup you'll have them as long as you maintain them. Keep in mind that iTunes Match is a service; you don't do anything "in" iTunes Match. It simply "is" in the background.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    D.  If we associate our child's iTouch, will it still keep the parental controls in place so it won't play certain songs that are not appropriate f
Yes, parental controls should continue to work as they have. Although I do not use them, perhaps someone else with experience will weigh in.
