Apple TV Latest Update Troubles Fixed - Sept 20th, 2013

I found a micro USB cable from my wife's old, no iphone, phone charger. Plugged in the ATV to my iMac. Clicked Restore in iTunes and Boom! Fixed!
I was locked out and It was a headache until I found that cord. I have no idea why I needed a cord in the first place. Wifi should of worked, but it kept telling me to plug into iTunes. Weird!

i have huge box of cables--can't believe how many USB cables i have but no mini. off to Best buy. i have two ATVs. one upgraded just fine and is in playing iradio. I upgraded my Ipad 3 to IOS 7 first day too and no issues so i'm lucky i guess. We'll see how this works out but better than a 3 hour round trip to Apple store.

Windows 7, iTunes 10.5, AppleTV2 latest update - possible fix

So the above combination for me has given trouble since all the updates on Friday.
The symptom, and I've seen it repeated in a few other posts below, is this:
Running Windows 7, iTunes 10.5: after a short period, the AppleTV2 stops being able to browse the iTunes library via Home Sharing. Closing and re-launching iTunes clears the problem, but it just happens again after another short period.
I was seeing this every time the AppleTV2 finished playing a TV episode or a movie. It would also fail to mark the ep/movie as "watched".
I just put in a fix that so far appears to be working over the past couple of hours, including two tv episodes.
Short version: Open UDP port 5353 on your machine on a permanent basis.
Long version for Windows 7:
*     Control Panel -> Windows Firewall
*     left bar: Advanced Settings (shield, requires priv escalation)
*     Select Inbound Rules, right click, and select New Rule
**     The wizard, in order of screen: Port, UDP & Specific: 5353, Allow the connection, PRIVATE ONLY, name it "Apple Something" and hit Finish
save out any changes if necessary, and try it out.
also: I am a pure wifi environment, but I don't think that matters here.

Thanks you for this info. I was going crazy with this issue and wanted to throw the the **** black box into the aquarium.
But finally found this thread. Just for kicks, I put in both rules (UDP/TCP) and things have been good so far. It's only been about 7 hours since I made that change. I'm hopeful this will solve the issue.
One additional thing I noticed since the firewall change is that, movies from iTunes (local content) are starting to play way faster than before. Usually in the past the movies will start playing in about a minutes time from the point of hitting play. But now it starts to play in about couple of seconds. Not sure if this is a fix from 4.4 or the way the port forwarding works now. It's a welcome surprise!

ITunes still won't open after latest updated to fix it.

April 19 update was supposed to be a fix for apps that wouldn't open, but it didn't work. I still have to open iTunes with the terminal.

According to multiple reports on this site, Apple Support has given the following instructions to others who had a similar problem. I can't confirm that this procedure works or that it's necessary, but it won't leave you any worse off than you are now.
First, back up all data.
Select the iTunes icon in the Applications folder and open the Info window. Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner to unlock the settings.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, change the Privilege setting for each Name in the list to Read & Write. Close the window. If the settings aren't visible, click the disclosure triangle on the left so that it points down.
You should now be able to drag the iTunes application to the Trash and empty. Your iTunes data won't be affected.
Click the iTunes link at the top of this page, download the installer package and run it.
If iTunes still doesn't launch, or if you can't complete the procedure, reinstall the OS.

Will Apple create an update that fixes dropped wifi after Yosemenite install?

Macbook has worked for Netflix streaming using wifi for years, until tonight, after Yosemite install. Fine with ethernet cable. Rather than me trying hoped-for fix after fix, what about Apple's work force designing the updates that will resolve it?

HT5682 April 22, just installed the latest update to fix the Java problem, it does not work.

About a week ago I installed a MAC update. I discovered that I was unable to play POGO games. I know that is not up there with all other uses of MAC... let's get back on track here. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and reset preferences at least 6 times to get JAVA back.

My Intel MAC circa 2009, is running MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5   Safari 6.0.4
Today I received another update from Apple stating it would provide the answer to POGO 6 and you can select certain sites that can be accessed.
This also was a FAIL!
I now know the steps, can access TERMINAL without shaking, have learned to use GO to access UTILITIES. I still end up with JAVA not recognizing that their software has a place in my heart and I truly hope on my computer soon.
I have been playing a horrible game of Solitaire on another site.
Are there others out there with this problem or is it just me? Can anyone suggest anything else?

HT1600 apple tv latest update is asking me to plug to itunes.

I tried this morning to update my apple TV. I went through the process and then this huge itunes logo and lightening connector pic appeared on my screen, and its still on. i guess its asking me to connect to itunes, and now i can,t even get access to my apple TV. I dont know what to do. Can somebody help?

Same thing happend to me. I finally went to Best Buy and purchased another $20 cable (I have a box full of apple cables because they like to change them often). It's a USB to micro. I unpluged the apple tv and pluged in the cable. Then I plugged the power back in. I opened iTunes and ran the update. After 15 minutes, it gave an error. Then I unpluged the power from the Apple TV and ran the update again. Now it's ready for the login. But Wait. Now it's not accepting my password for the wireless network. I've wasted hours and still no success.

Since the last update we are having massive problems on our Lumia 920 from ATT. Bad reception, losing Internet connection, etc.
We have over 30 920 deployed in our company. We did tests with and without the new patch and its like day and night.
Sitting in my office, i have 1-2 bars on the phone with updates, showing 4g, but cannot access any website.Plus constantly losing connection.
On the phone without update I have 2-3 bars, showing LTE and constant internet access.
It is horrible. We first thought it was related to the Access Point Software, but it is definitively the firmware.
Please fix asap. Not good advertising for those awesome phones.

This issue has already been covered on several threads on this forum. The update was found to cause issues on AT&T and was pulled part way through it's roll out. A fresh update is being prepared that fixes the issues. For more information contact AT&T or Nokia US.

HT1923 I have tried to remove and reinstall Itunes after they sent out the latest update. Fails to install. There is no way to go back to a previous version that works on windows 8.1

Apple's latest update to iTunes failed to install on my computer with Windows 8.1 64 bit. I have reinstalled in many times, removed Itunes via Control Pannel, etc. etc. No luck. Tried to go back to an older version, but all of the installs try to install the latest version. I suspect there is a problem with this update and vesion.

After latest updates keep getting extension issues

After updating with the newest updates today, we have been having to repair permissions to mount a firewire disk. It seems we keep getting messages that certain extensions are not loaded or installed properly. Ths is firewire to HP print drivers to plugins/Mach.kext was installed improperly. Anyone else having this issue. I have already repaired permissions twice and this is still happening-yes I restarted using command R and repaired permissions that way.

Sorry, as I said before, everything was running just fine no errors - nothing until I updated thru APPLE the latest updates, which included HP printer updates for the remote printers, security update, and a couple others, but thru APPLE. The system itself is only a few months old as the hard drive had been totally wiped clean and the new system installed at that time.
SO if Apple is incapable of updating properly as suggested what should a person do. Now as to the backups, since this computer is strictly a shooting computer the only thing that ever needs backing up are the raw files that are shot. That is done by using the two other internal drives.
MacKeeper is not on this computer, in fact only MacScan is on this computer and it is up to date. Now I do have MacKeeper on two other computers and I do not have this problem like you are saying I should be.
Also as I said, I restarted the computer using the command -R and going into the repair permissions then into repair disk, more then once, actually three timesback and forth until nothing at all came up in permissions as being wrong and the disk repair went quickly. After all of that, there were no more errors.
So if repairing permissions does nothing as you indicate and DU only repairs the directory, I should have accomplished nothing, but it did and after 4 days I can say those errors are no longer popping up causing application issues loading. I would assume since nothing is automatically started these applications are system oriented.
I have been diagosing and repairing my own Mac's since 1988, but until these new systems with the everything known to mankind intergrated, I never had these problem whichis why I came to this forum to see if anyone has been having the same problem, obviously not.
Now while it might be really nice to back up your hard drive every week or so ifnot every other day, the size and magnitude of such a job is more then most people should deal with. Apple had a great little app a few years ago that you could tell exactly what you wanted backed up, now you need to backup the entire hard drive. Now to be honest, I do not keep all my eggs in one basket nor do we have just one computer doing everything. Each older computer gets a job, different hard drives have their own jobe to do. I do not trust hard drives so everything of importance goes on CD - DVD or now BluRay. Since the first days of CD's I have had only one failure to be able to read, that was because somehow the DVD became scratched. Since I keep two computers on OS9, I still can read my first CD's. I can not say the same for the few SCSI drives I still have around.
What I have seen is that most people have too many conflicting applications on their computers, that generally causes the problems you have talked about. Running permissions every week or two is one of the smartest ideas ever from Apple.
But back to my original problem that I no longer have, these errors directly a result from upgrading thru Apple should not be happening to anyone.

Syncing messed up since the latest update

Since the latest update, my Windows 8 Outlook 2013 gets hung up syncing with my iPhone 4S. I have tried the fixes I have seen elsewhere on the site, such as just syncing contacts and calendar and then syncing notes separately and that seems to work some of the time, but the changes I make on my phone in calendar and notes aren't getting onto my Outlook notes and calendar. Ideas?

chrooting in and running that is the correct solution, but you need to do it from an Arch install disk.

The latest update for the iphone makes it possible to see your chapters and its corresponding pic (chapter guide) in addition to just using the forward and back buttons. Great:)
When I play my movie on the iphone, and I press the chapter button, the chapter titles display perfectly the "chapter guide" list, and when I press the chapter title button it navigates to the correct chapter. However, the pictures next to the chapter titles are not in order. For example, one of them repeats twice for no reason, or might be missing. This causes the rest of the pics to be off by 1. All the chapter markers seem to be aligned correctly in Final Cut, and I am using an apple preset setting for export the iphone in Compressor 3.
Does the iphone read the nearest Keyframe for the pic. I have tried moving the chapter markers 15 frames into the clip in Final cut and still get the same result. My chapters are only 1 min clips. Is that the issue?
Please Help, I am ready to release a new product on the web.
Any help to solve this one would be greatly appreciated.

I am using the latest version of Final Cut.
I want to know if this a Final cut issue or an iphone issue. Do my chapter markers have to be positioned further into the middle of each clip in Final Cut to get the iphone to show the correct pic on the new chapter guide feature. This is a brand new feature of the iphone, and I am sure many others are having the same issue.

That's a legitimate message which somehow had the wrong date attached. The correct date was yesterday; just ignore or delete it.

I recommend that you
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
