Apple TV receives Airplay feed from PC but doesn't read iTunes library
Picked up a new Apple TV this week and haven't gotten Home Sharing to work reliably at all between it and my Win7 PC. My only workaround has been through Airplay and the Remote app on my 4S.
So far I've:
- Opened all relevant ports on my router (Home Sharing still drops after one file is read - regardless of format or length)
- Set up appropriate rules for iTunes on my firewall/disabled it (Home Sharing disconnects after one file)
- Reserved IP addresses for all my network devices (no change)
- Rebooted everything a gazillion times (works for one song/video, then loses it)
Everything is running wirelessly with strong signals from the router on every device.
I believe the problem originates from my computer's end of the Home Sharing setup. Once I get a video going on the ATV, I use my iPhone's remote app and notice that my PC library eventually disappears from the available devices in the list. Searching through the ATV's "computers" tab in Remote gives me the following message: "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries that have Home Sharing...". If I stop the movie, the ATV still lets me browse my PC library but doesn't actually load any of the media selected. Eventually it realizes it's not connected and gives me the "activate Home Sharing" message as well.
However, when this is all said and done, Remote and Airplay have been working fine. I can access my library through the Remote then get my PC to Airplay the media to the ATV without a hitch. Managed to get 3 videos to play end-to-end and listen to an entire music album. The only weird thing is my library icon on the Remote greys out for some reason but it still connects and plays everything when selected.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You need to add all the music files into the blank new itunes library.
Either have 2 windows open (itunes & win explorer), and drag the files from Win Explorer over into the itunes main library window.
Another way is to use the itunes menu > file > Add Folder to library and add your top-level music folder.

Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).

I just got the iPhone 5S. I am able to RECEIVE air drops from people, but I can't send anything via Air Drop. I doesn't seem to be communicating with others. I have Air Drop to communicate with my contacts, but it isn't working. Help!

When I update itunes it deletes the library file, and when I restore that file from the previous libraries or my backup, itunes will run but tell me "the iTunes library file cannot be saved. A folder was specified instead of a file" How do I fix this?

I transfered music from my ipod to a new itunes library (new PC). The music plays in itunes but when I sync my ipod and try to drag songs from the itunes library to the ipod it wont load. It shows a circle with aline through it.

Hi there. My iPod Nano was stolen from my car today. I do know the serial number of this stolen device. Is there any way that Apple can block another user from connecting this stolen device to iTunes? Also, if another user was to attempt to connect this stolen device to iTunes, would Apple be able to inform of the username of this person in order that I could then pass this information to the police?

Every other function works perfectly, and my Internet/router are working at top speed. I can watch HD Netflix and YouTube but nothing via my iTunes library on my MacBook or iPad. All software is updated. The AppleTV will recognize that Air Play is trying to do it's thing, but with music files it sounds like they're skipping and video files just load endlessly.
I'm searching for an answer to almost the same exact problem, using almost the same exact hardware and software. Has an answer been found?
The files that I'm trying to burn come from eMusic, and they are formatted mp3. Recently, (after the iTunes update to 9.2.3?,) they would not drag and drop from iTunes into Toast. From several different discussions I've tried working around this by dragging to the desktop first then dragging and dropping to Toast, going to Toast from a programmer's homemade help window, " iToons," and today, after talking with Apple support, going directly to Toast from my eMusic folder. Alas, all recordings do not perform like they use to. Sometimes they play and sometimes not. There is one I managed, that is listenable, but sometimes I have to put it in my car stereo over and over again as it gets ejected with an error code, sometimes, finally it takes it... Some of the recordings on other disks I've burned are not clean - they have white-noise sounds creeping in... I use to have none of these problems. One time as I was listening to a CD that managed to play, and it just stopped playing... Is there an answer out there to get back to how it use to be? Thanks for you help. -

How can I import music files from a flash drive to my iTunes library? I put the flash drive into my laptop, selected " add file to library", selected the songs I wanted from the flash drive, and it looked like they were added as the names show under " recently added". Then I removed the flash drive from my laptop But when I select one of the songs and try to play it a message saying "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Dragging the files to "Automatically Add..." is pretty easy once you know where to look. Just make sure iTunes is running when you do it; otherwise the files will just sit there until the next time you open iTunes.
(Interestingly, the way you originally tried to do would have worked fine except for one little detail: you have to first go into Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and check the box for "Copy files..." If that is not done, iTunes will reference the files on the flash drive, which of course are not accessible once the drive is removed, as you saw.)

All i had wanted to do was to move a select # of songs newly purchased from my ipad to my ipod but I got mixed up. Before i knew it all teh library had been moved to my ipad? HELP!
You don't have to move the songs back into iTunes if you don't want to, the songs are still in iTunes on your computer - you just copied a version of the songs onto the iPad from iTunes.
If you want to remove them from the device itself, just swipe across the song while you are in song list mode in the music app and a red delete button will pop up. You can also tap and hold down on a playlist or a album icon and the X to delete will pop up. It will not work for Genius playlists.
You can also connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes, select the iPad on the left side, click on the Music Tab on the right, uncheck all of the music that you want to remove, click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes, and that will remove the songs from the iPad. -

Well, this is a problem, because the only material you can transfer from your iPhone (using only Apple software) is material you purchased in the iTunes Store.
To do that, plug your iPhone into iTunes, then choose File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from iTunes' menu.
Generally speaking, you should restore your iTunes library from your computer's backup.
