Apple TV 'Trailers' App stops starts all other streaming fine, why?

Hello,
Just bought an Apple TV (I think that makes it 3rd generation?). Netflix streams fine, movie previews from itunes stream fine but when I use the Trailers app built in to the Apple TV it stops and starts a couple of times through the majority of trailers. Why is this particular app getting it wrong when everything else works? I've not rented a film yet but obviously a 2h hour film isn't comparable to a 2 minute trailer.
My internet speed clocks at about 9Mb/s
Anyone any ideas?

You probbably have it set to use HD resolution, and Trailers are higher quality in genral anyway making them more demanding on your network connection to be able to watch.
Yes I found that option previously but didn't make the link as it is in the settings menu under 'itunes store' which I presumed was specifically for....the itunes store, plus on the play button in the Trailers app it still says HD regardless of your settings.
Also not the same thing. Rentals have to be fully downloaded first, they are not streamed so it does not matter if your connection is slow it will just take longer to download, but you can watch it un-interrupted then.
Is the Apple TV different from say renting on your laptop? because that gives you the option to start playing the movie prety much straight away without downloading the whole movie.
I am guessing you are using WiFi. I would start by trying a wired connection and see if that resolves the problem.
I will give the wired connection ago at some point, but watching trailers in SD for now is good enough, just need to try renting a film to make sure it works wireless as that i my prefrence. Thanks for your help!

Shuffle causes Windows to stop recognizing all other USB ports!?!

When I plug my new Shuffle in to any USB Port, Windows stops recognizing all other USB drives. (this includes my internet connection and external hard drive with all music) If I disconnect the Shuffle and repower the other devices, they work normally again. Create button to stop loading all other tabs.

Hello. Can you create a button to stop loading all other tabs. I know you have buttons for: reload all tabs, and close all other tabs, but stopping all other tabs would be great too.
For example:
opening new tabs on eBay, they constantly load and make mozilla slower to work with. If I can stop all other tabs from loading, I can browse the main page faster and open even more tabs faster.
This button would be very useful. Consider it. =)

The OP wants to open a lot of links quickly after each other in the background, but would want to delay the actual loading until going to a specific tab. 
When you restore a previous session only at most three tabs load at the same time if restoring on demand isn't selected (active), but I don't know if you can achieve this with opening a lot of links.

Iphone4s and iCloud/Apple Movie Trailers app stuck in loop using battery on wifi

This one is a long story and took me a day or so of looking around to figure out. I don't know if it causes all the battery drain issues, but it was at times causing some usage on my 4s.
Background:
I use my mac as an iTunes server - always running - so AppleTV can reach it etc via homesharing. I have a TimeCapsule too and a neat feature is wake on demand proxy where if the the mac is set for wake on demand and it is a sleep, the AppleTV will wake it via the proxy. Works great. Even the iOS remote apps will wake it. Anything requesting a bonjour service that is active on that sleeping mac will wake it. All was good.
Then one day, I noticed it waking in the middle of the night - whenever the iPhone turned on with a notification. I thought that was weird. I quit the apps. hard reset, etc. Still occured. I could put the mac to sleep and just turn on my iPhone and it would wake. Note I have an iPad and it did not exhibit this behavior. I gave up for a few days. Mac would go back to sleep after 10 minutes so no big deal.
Side note I also have wifi sync OFF. I had it on for itunes syncing but noticed that iTunes maintained a constant connection to the phone even when not wired so you can drag and drop to the phone etc. So to be sure that was not draining battery, it turned it back off. It also would wake on demand when it was enabled so I knew it wasn't that setting causing the issue.
Investigation:
I started with netstat and my airport logs. I found my mac address, ip address, and then found when I turned on the phone a connection established everytime to port 49166 on the phone. It would create a connection everytime the phone turned on.
I used 'sudo lsof -i -P' to find the process opening the host port on the mac to that phone port. It was 'ubd'. Looking that up on google, I found it was the Ubiquity process. I also found that it had a log in '~\Library\Logs\Ubiquity'. Looking at the log, I found the following occuring whenver I turned on my phone and usually very few minutes while the phone was on:

I assumed those 401 errors were http errors. The logging would kick in whenver the phone was turned on. I figured a loop like that must be using battery at least on wifi. I don't think it does this on 3g. I didn't know if this was related to the wake issue but it was the only clue.
I found a macworld article on problems with iCloud/Ubquity causing a hang. I didn't have a hang but I wondered if there was a file sync of some sort going on. I remembered reading somewhere that on OSX, documents for sync are kept in '~/Library/Mobile Documents'. So I looked there. I found one file called '43LU875E5~com~apple~movietrailer' and a hidden directory called '.ubd'. which has files with names and id's that matched some early parts of the log.
I was at a loss. Since it was a connection problem, I took Safari on OSX, turned on the phone, and connected to the https address in the log. Sure enough, I got messages from keychain to add roots and ccerts etc. Did this and eventually got an error returned. But it did connect which meant the phone was running a web server. Neat. And ubd wanted to connect to it and couldn't and was going to keep trying forever.
Since the only clue I had was the movies trailer data file, I went to my iCloud control panel and sure enough there is a movies trailer data file in iCloud (along with my ipad and iphone backups). So I tried to delete it . iCloud returned an error and could not delete. OSX console log showed an http 500 error.
So, I figure not much else to do, so I delete the app from my phone and my ipad. It even gives a nice warning when deleting that you have a file in iCloud that you may want to delete. Unfortunately, I still couldn't.
Final Testing
After deleting the app from the phone, I checked the ubiquity log. I could turn on and off the phone and it would no longer create the log entries, no netstat connection, no web server running anymore. I put the mac to sleep, and turned on the phone, It would not wake it up. Repeated test. Passed. Opened the Remote App and it woke up the Mac as expected. Everything was back to normal and I no longer had a looping connection between my Mac and my phone. Note - this occured even when the trailers app was shutdown on the iphone. This appeared to be an iCloud sync issue.
Final Thoughts
- This did not occur with my iPad and it had the same app. I deleted it there to be safe.
- I have no clue how much battery this uses. I have pretty good life most of the time and my assumption is no matter what, it would help to turn this loop off. It was really the waking the mac all the time that had me bothered. I just stumbled on a bigger issue.
- I doubt the problem is occuring all the time. My ipad did not have the issue, only the iPhone. It was likely an anomoly that showed up and may or may not occur. I thought posting the experience and if anyone else is having similar problems this may help. I am not advocting that everyone remove the app. Just take a look around if you are using the app and are seeing issues.

Now to the good news. I started Safari, then pasted the URL in and pressed Enter. To my utter amazement the quicktime "Q" logo appeared briefly, then a "screen" box in the window and the movie itself began to load. After a short while it began to play, just like it should!
More good news. The exact same technique worked in Firefox as well!
Now the not-so-good news. When I enter the URL in Quicktime Player "Open URL", the player window opens showing the audio and video controls but no "viewing screen". I let it run for about 5 minutes and nothing ever appeared. I must qualify this by saying that right now my wireless connection is running very slow, so I will try QTP again when things are moving faster.
Believe it or not, this is the very first suggestion I tried that actually made a noticable difference. Of course, this is still a workaround (which I will gladly use). Hope there is a permanent resolution to this somewhere.
BTW, I plan on downloading and re-installing OS X 10.5.2 using the "Combo" package. My original install of both 10.5.1 and .2 were done via "Software Update" and this is the only other suggestion I've seen that might resolve my issue. My plan is to do the re-install only on the G5. If it corrects the problem there, I'll wait a week and then do the same with my MacBook.
In either case I will let you know the results in a follow-up post to this topic.

My iPad first gen (iOS5.1.1) won't connect to my home WiFi suddenly. It's worked fine for years but just stopped. All other devices do connect to the WiFi. Now, the iPad does connect to the WiFi at my workplace. Ideas on this?

My iPad (first generation iOS5.1.1.1) quit connecting to my home WiFi recently after years of being able to. All other devices in my home connect fine. I have taken every step I can find to try and remedy things including restoring my iPad to factory settings. Still nothing - when it tries to connect to my network it just spins. I took my iPad to work and it connected to the WiFi there just fine. Came back home, no good. After talking with my local Mac supplier they've suggested that maybe my router is the cause. I've unplugged it several times for lengths of up to an hour but that still isn't getting things working again. Any ideas?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

there is no command to startup from a single node or group command. Correct? Yes, that's correct.

FF 29 totally hosed the display of Care2, now just one long line, none of the normal UI appears, but does in all other browsers. Why?

The site now appears as one huge list, instead of the graphical interface that still works in all other browsers. I've had to revert to FF 28 where everything works fine. If there's a way to let me know when this is fixed, that would be nice. Else I'm staying with FF28 - even though it is so Chrome-like now, and I really don't like Chrome. I did miss the addon bar on the bottom with my Forecast Fox and other things handy.

Have photosmart premium c309 g connected wirelessly to I Mac and Mac book pro. The unit suddenly will not print black. Ink levels show all good. All other colors print fine. When check HP utility and go to print quality diagnostics, a box appears that states cannot print PQ page--make sure printer is turned on. If I tell it to print a page, it immediatly connects and prints all colors but not black. How can it print regular page but not receive message to print PQ page? "make sure printer is on" ??

I have this exact same problem with the same printer. Printer will not print black. My macbook pro is connecting to the printer but shoots out a blank page. I just put in a new ink cartridge even though it was not low on ink. Please help.

Version 4 is oh so old.
The IRS and many other providers of forms are using products like LIveCycle which require at least version 7.05.

Apple tv - Youtube App stopped working

About 4 months ago, the youtube app on my Apple TV stopped working.
Nothing worked to fix this. But When the new update was released for the Apple TV, everything began working.
But the problem had resurfaced. The Youtube App on my Apple TV is no longer allowing me to log in. It keeps saying that my password is not correct.
Just FYI, to avoid anyone giving me irrelivant information...
1) I do not and never have had the higher level security requiring my cell phone as a secondary authentication.
2) I AM able to log in on my computer with no problem but the Apple TV will not allow me to log in.

BTW, I should clarify, I am specifically having a problem mirroring. Home sharing is on and all my library is there, just no mirroring.

On my nano 2nd gen, my center/select button just stopped working. all other buttons work.

I've been trying to fix a 1st Gen 1GB Nano for the past two days for a coworker and I have to say that with all the digging I have done (around 10 hours at this point) I have yet to find a solution to this matter.
It's become clear that something is happening with the new updates that seem to be killing off a increasing number of iPod's yet you'll find no fix here.
You will however hear many, many, many times over to do the 5R's. And you can do that many, many, many times and you will return to the same problem every time.
It's not just a problem with iTunes/iPod on XP as I can confirm I have had this problem on OS X as well.
Apple needs to get their act together and start offering some answers to customers questions. I shouldn't have to pay or take a trip to a not so local store just to get product I purchased from the company to work.
I find myself nervous each and every time my Mac tells me it has updates because I just have to ask myself what this update is going to break.
Will my iPod play after this update? Will iTunes work after this update. Oh look, my iSight doesn't work anymore after the OS X update (I finally fixed that), and now I see that some Intel iMacs are having wireless issues as well.
I'm growing more and more frustrated each time I see another person having a problem but only see the same answers (that don't work) offered. If it wasn't for end user support there would be no support at all.

Why is the Apple TV Remote App So Glitchy All Of A Sudden?

I've owned my 2nd Gen Apple TV for at least four years. It has been great, and the Remote App has been a great addition for use on my iPad and iPhone. However, since the iOS8 update, this app has been absolutely terrible. Connectivity issues abound, and the only thing that ever seems to help at all is the complete reboot of the device containing the remote app. Please fix this issue... it's not okay...

Have you tried all the steps in this article.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Apple TV 1 Not Showing in iTunes 10.6.1, All other devices fine!

Win7 64 all current updates. Itunes 10.6.1.
Two ipads, two iphones, wifes iMac all show in home sharing or devices node. However, suddenly after updating to 10.6.1 itunes, Apple TV1 is not there and won't appear. Wireshark on the pc shows the bonjour mdns query from my pc ip address, and a response from the apple tv, but that's all. itunes never picks it up. The tv will download shows from the internet, youtube, music, etc but now I can't sync my music collection, etc. Apple has now broken functionality for me in each of the last 2 itunes releases.
No amount of restarting, resetting, etc etc has fixed. And the diag tests on itunes NEVER seem to be able to connect to itunes store. I can view my account info but clicking any links, like Manage Devices, gives an error.
My version of Windows7 is the N version, I think it was for Europe, no windows media player was installed, etc. Perhaps the ongoing problems I've had relate to that?
Who else out there is giving up on apple home sharing products and if so what alternatives are you considering?

The Apple TV 1 doesn't use homesharing.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.
