APPLE TV unable to rent movies

We have the option to click rent movie. once we click it does not go to movie.

I once had an issue as my title (Mr, Mrs etc) was not complete on one of the account detail pages when i had to enter a 3 digit verification code.  Might be worth a check.
Also check your country and store settings are correct.
AppleTV has both a country setting for iTunes store and a Location setting which somehow defaults to Cupertino.

You can only use an iTunes store in a location for which you live and have a valid address for your credit card.

  • Apple TV2 not playing rented movies

    Hi folks,
Here's a problem which I've discovered since the latest software update for the appleTV:
I regularly rent movies via the iTunes store on my iPad2.  Usually in standard def.  I've had no trouble in the past viewing said videos on AppleTV - appearing in the top left of the Apple TV home screen under 'Purchased' or 'Rented' items.
On Sunday past,  I rented a film in the same way only to find that the rental did not appear on my AppleTV - I even did the whole 'check for rentals' thing via settings, but to no avail.  In the end, as I had friends round to watch the movie, I had to rent the movie a second time via my appleTV.
Phoned support last night who couldn't give me an explanation of why this might be, but did offer me a work-around - ie, play the movie on my iPad and send it via Airplay to my appleTV - I tried it last night while the guy from support was on the phone with me.  It worked with a rented movie on my iPad 'Stander'.  No problems.  So, I went ahead and rented 'In Time' on my iPad, sent to to Airplay as before only to get the message on my iPad 'Not authorised to play this content on the selected monitor device'.  However, the audio was playing via the AppleTV.  Tried again this morning to find that now not only isn't the audio not playing via AppleTV but I'm getting the yellow exclamation mark triangle on screen with the message 'Not Authorised to play this content'.
There is nothing wrong with my hardware as far as I can tell.  Everything else works as it should.  This is a problem which has suddenly occured since the last firmware/software update for AppleTV.
Can someone offer me some help/explanation because Apple support both last night and today have been entirely useless.  While not able to offer me an explanation, they did however try to sell me extended phone support, which was nice...
So yeah, if anyone else can offer me any help/suggestions, it'd be much appreciated!

I don't recall rentals made on an iPad ever also being available on AppleTV direct - they're not supposed to be:

It's a long time since I rented on an iPad so that's not to say it never happened I just don't recall that you werer supposed to be able do to this.
    Airplay however should work.
Funnily enough I tried Airplaying a movie my kids had started to watch on teh AppleTV2 yesterday and got audio only.  This was from a local iTunes library so easy to do direct on the unit - I'd only tried Airplay as it should have continued from where they were watching rather than ahving to manually naviagte to there.

  • Unable to rent movies...disk fulljk

How can erase content so that I can rent movies from my Apple TV? I recently upgraded the software on my Apple TV and now when I try to rent movies from my TV I just get a -34 error Disk Full. Don't see anyway to reduce the amount of info that has synch'd from my server.
    Help?

Sounds like iTunes forgot it is the "sycned" computer with the AppleTV. Now it is acting like a computer only for streaming.
You will need to go into the AppleTV. Settings then Computer. There it should list (with chain like icon next to it on right) the computer it is set to be synced with. If not there (or if it is but wrong) choose your computer (if listed) to sync with. Not sure of the setup and what to do fully as I am not in front of my TV. But in there, you can tell it to sync with your computer (may need to go enter a code into iTunes on your computer again).
If for some reason it thinks it is a new computer, it will then clear all data from the AppleTV anyhow for you and sync with your computer (again). Then in iTunes you can be more limited with what you synced from what you did the first time.

  • Specific Apple TV Setup? Rented Movies NO SOUND

    Hi Everyone,
I wonder if there this anyone out here who's Apple TV is setup this way:
Apple TV >> HDMI Cable(AV) >> HDTV >> (Audio) Digital Optical Cable >> Home Theatre
I just got my Apple TV for 2 weeks now and set it up the way that is stated above. I have expected that the TV will display the picture of course and stream the audio out through the optical output to my home theatre's digital audio in via the optical cable. The setup works fine navigation through the menus, playing music and watching movie previews except for one BIG thing - it doesn't work when watching a rented movie. There is video on the TV but the audio isn't just going through the Apple TV to the TV and finally to my home theatre.
So I have tried this setup below:
                    >> HDMI Cable(V)>> HDTV
    Apple TV
                   >> Optical Cable(A)>>Home Theatre
And it works on everything, especially the one that I am having issues with, watching a rented movie. Now I can forget it and keep the setup this way. But I am concerned about having to buy a splitter and another 2 optical cables just to connect other TV audio output to my home theatre which only has 1 digital audio in.(which most if not all systems do).
Now I am confused if there a way to keep my previous setup and make everything work.
Anyone who went through the same trouble? Or knows more? I'd be glad to hear your advice.
    Thank you in advance!

I can only think that there may be some setting on the TV that is causing the problem or only Dolby Digital which originates from the TV itself is passed through the optical out.
On the matter of connecting the Apple TV to the receiver, most set ups would have all your devices connected to the receiver by HDMI and then the receiver would pass the video through HDMI to the TV.

  • Apple TV - Purchasing and renting movies / videos in Austria

I want to buy an Apple TV in the next days, but today I saw, that it is not possible in my region (Austria) to rent or buy movies in iTunes yet. So I'm afraid it would make no sense to buy the Apple TV. Does anybody know, until when movies will be available in Austria's iTunes Store - i hope quite soon?!?
    Thanks, Thomas.

Unfortunately no-one here can answer that question, we are all users like yourself. Apple are unlikely to give out details of future events or improvements, so I'm afraid you can only wait and see.

  • Why do I have to reboot my Apple TV2 to watch rented movies?

When I rent a movie from iTunes on my ATV2, I do not get the option to watch it, it just offers the option to rent the film again.
When I reboot the ATV2, the 'play' option appears, but I don't really want to do this each time.
    Has anyone else had similar?

The Apple TV may be getting confused by connection issues, this may be HDMI, but may be more likely to be a network issue, have you tried another wifi channel to try to eliminate interference.

  • TS1424 Why am I unable to rent movies from my iTunes account on my iPad?

Until recently renting or buying movies from my iTunes account was seamless. However, I've recently tried on several occasions to rent a movie but the app either crashes or my iTunes sign-in box never appears.

Your mom is signed in to her apple account probably. You cannot buy a movie on one account and move it to an ipad(different account) and play it. Cant be done, Copyright laws. Can only be accessed with the same account it was purchased with.
Havent tried it myself, But im 99% sure you cannot SHARE movies like that.

  • Unable to rent movie

    Hi,
I am trying to rent an movie from itunes however it is stating I dont have enought storage ,I have delete some apps but that is not enough , what else can I do  and could someone explain to me how icloud works ?

When you say all details are correct i'm assuming you verified via iTunes on computer and included your security code.
As this is an iTunes matter you will need to contact them to seek further assistance.

  • Apple TV not listing rented movies purchased from iMac - Temp solution !

Fastest and easiest solution that has been working for me.
Simply restart your iMac while your Apple TV is is powered OFF. Once iMac is restarted and powered on , power on Apple TV. Your rentals should then show up in the computers section.

  • Anyone else unable to rent movies, but can purchase tv shows?

Any one else seeing this? I can buy music and TV shows but when I try to rent a movie it says itunes connection problem please try later. But I don't see anyone else complaining so I figure I must be unique but highly doubt it. Memorial Day weekend and would love to sit back and rent some movies. iTunes store doesn't seem to have a way to notify of issues either.

Odd, the same thing happened to me last night when trying to rent "The Orphanage." But I was able to rent "There Will Be Blood."
Anyone else afflicted? Hazard a guess as to what's going on?

  • Apple tv overcharge on rented movies

I have been charged varying amounts on my credit card for movies bouoght via my apple tv.  Two movies both advertised at €4.99 I was charged €8.98 and €9.98 please advise why and how one can get a refund?

  • Why doesn't Apple permit playing a rented movie on a large screen TV using a VGA cable?

I was disappointed after waiting over 8 hrs to download an HD movie to my iPad2 from iTunes that I could not play it on my large screen. I connected the iPad to the TV with an Apple VGA adaptor. I got the error message "CANNOT PLAY MOVIE. The connected display (my large screen TV) is not authorized to play protected movies." Yet, in the information provided by Apple, it says I can play the movies on my TV with Apple TV. What's the difference other than Apple TV has an HDMI connector instead of the VGA connector. BTW I had the iPad connected to my stereo set via the iPad's headphone jack.

The VGA cable does not offer the copy protection necessary to allow the conetn to be played.
For instance I use an HDMi Adapter from apple and can play movies and TV shows on my HD TV just fine from my iPad 2 and I don't own an Apple TV.
    The following article explains it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4108
    Apple wrote:
    HDCP requirements
iTunes Store movies (SD and HD) and TV shows (HD) require an HDCP digital connection such as the one provided when using the Apple Digital AV Adapter and HDMI cable. If you attempt to play this content using a non-HDCP digital connection, such as the Apple VGA Adapter, an alert will appear to let you know that an HDCP-compatible device is required. To view iTunes Store content using a non-HDCP digital connection, do one of the following:
Sync the SD version of the TV show
Use an Apple Component AV cable to play the HD version at 480p
Use an Apple Composite AV cable to play the HD version at 480i
Attempting to play rental content on a device that requires an HDCP digital connection may start the rental timer. Use one of the recommended Apple AV cables to view your rental before the time limit expires.
This is more the movie studios doing than anythng Apple is pushing. Though it may help push their Apple TV.

  • Can I use Remote app on iPad to control RENTED (read Rented) movies on Apple TV?

I use the Remote App on my iPad to control movies on my Apple TV, but those are movies that I own and are resident on my home network.
What about controlling a rented movie that is aquired through iTunes Store? I would like to be able to control rented content just the same.
    Please advise?
I have the older version of Apple TV – maybe controlling rented movies with ipad can be done with newere Apple TV and iOS 5 on all devices?

Ok, thanks, now I see the very inconspicuous little "control pad" icon in bottom right corner of Remote App. How the **** is a guy supposed know what that means? Why not just put a button labled with "Control Pad" or something on it?
Thanks just the same. Now that I know that, it works really slick. I can start/stop/pause rented movies and use my iPad as remote touch pad to navigate anywhere on the Apple TV menu. Nice.
Can't wait for the "real" Apple TV set to come out.
