Apple TV W/O Remote
I'm traveling with my Apple TV-forgot the remote. Can I operate Apple TV without the remote? Can I get a new remote from an Apple Store?
If you have an IOS device you could try the remote app. Yes, you can get a remote from the Apple store.

It got A new router today and wanted to turn on apple tv but my remote app on iPad and iPhone will not recognize apple tv. Btw- I do not have apple tv remote.
It reboots it but unplugging can also rectify communication issues like this. A restore would be the next step.

Purchased a new Apple TV and the remote double clicks each time I press the button. It worked fine during set up and for the first two days. I have since moved it and this problem started. Restarted,reset,unplugged,changed remotes, no change. Latest software update. This is really annoying. iPhone remote app works just fine. Any suggestions?
That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it... -
How do I set up used Apple TV with lost remote?
I just moved and purchased the previous tenant's Apple TV. However, she had lost the remote so I do not have one. How can I set up the tv?
You will be unable to setup the Apple TV without a remote. One can be purchased through Apple or any authorized reseller.

How can I set up a new network on my apple tv when my remote app isn't picking it up because they aren't on the same network? The actual remote doesn't work anymore, so I've been using the remote app on my phone but now that our internet changed, I can't do anything at all. Please help!
You can't use the remote app to setup a network. If your physical remote isn't working you will need borrow another or purchase a replacement.

Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote
I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!
I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.

Apple TV sleep mode remote shortcut no longer works with newest software update. Why? Is there an alternative other than nav to settings menu? Reset remote shortcut dead as well. :(
Hold Menu + Play/Pause to reboot the box from the main menu.

I am going to buy a second Apple TV. When I turn on Apple TV with the Remote App, will it activate both Apple TV boxes or will it allow me to select the one I want to operate?
The remote app will distinguish between the two Apple TV's, you won't need to pair it, it will only control one Apple TV at once.

Can't wake up Apple TV 2gen via remote app or airplay

Can't wake up my Apple TV 2gen via remote app or AirPlay from my iPhone 3GS or my iPad 2. All devices are on the current IOS version (4.3.1). Wake up with the hardware remote is possible.
The remote app and AirPlay works if the wake up is done with the hardware remote. If I had tried to wake up the apple tv via the remote app or AirPlay the apple tv needs a reboot (unplug power) to work proper with the iPhone or the iPad.
Seems to by a bug in IOS 4.3.1!?

Apple TV (2nd Gen) + Remote not working
My Apple TV 2nd Gen / remote isn't working.
When I press any button on the remote I get no response at all from the Apple TV unit (no flashing lights etc).
I've replaced the battery with brand new battery, still no joy.
I've tried the "hold menu rewind for 6s", still no joy..
Any ideas?Also to be clear, the Apple TV unit is displaying an image on my TV screen and I get a solid white light all the time.

What I am trying to do is very simple, and I am sure I have done it before.
I have an Apple TV (2nd Gen) connected to Wifi Network (Airport Extreme 802.11n) I want to stream content from the itunes library on my macbook pro over the wifi network to the Apple TV. This works no problem, home sharing is set up and I can see the itunes library under 'Computer' on the Apple TV interface. I can use the Apple Remote to scroll through and play content from my itunes. Works no problem.
Now I want to use the remote app on my ipad mini to control the apple tv. Using up to date app (Version 3.01) Again, everything looks like it should work. I have turned on Home Sharing on the remote app settings. It works fine and both my itunes library and Apple TV show up on the interface. I can touch the itunes icon and control the itunes on my computer and play music and video on my computer screen.
Now when I touch the apple tv icon I can't see my itunes library content to play on the apple tv. I see the below image. If I tap on the icon in the bottom left it takes me back to the screen in the first image. What is the strangest thing is that I can control the apple tv using the gestures interface! This isn't what I want though and I want to be able to see the itunes library on the screen of the ipad and play it on the apple tv. You can see in the video on this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvEpgcE9KCs). This is what I am trying to do and I just don't understand why I don't get the screen seen at 1:25 in the video. Instead I get the screen seen in the below image. Any ideas? I know that the remote app is connecting to the apple TV because I can control it using gestures, just strange I can't see the content on the ipad like in the attached video clip, instead I see the screen in the image below. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!OK, Problem solved. Software on Apple TV was VERY outdated. It had been sitting in the box for over a year and needed an update. Problem solved!
