Apple TV wifi indicator light

When did the green, wifi indicator (in lower left corner) get added? And how can you get rid of it?

What WiFi indicator light?
Are you talking about on the actual Apple TV device or on some screen somewhere?
There is no green indicator light on the Apple TV device!

  • WRT400N WiFi indicator light inverted state

When I was first experimenting with my new WRT400N last month I noticed that at one point the WiFi indicator light got into an inverted state, i.e., it was on when it should have been off and vice-versa. It seemed to fix itself on the next power cycle, but now it's back, and this time a power cycle doesn't fix it. I suppose I can do a full reset and reload settings from backup, but this is turning into an another annoying bug with the WRT400N. Linksys still shows no sign of fixing the PPTP VPN defect, and there have been no firmware updates since the first release more than a year ago. I'm wondering if Linksys has any plans for a firmware update to fix these bugs, or is the original firmware all we get?

I have installed the new r11 firmware. Now when I set wireless to "Disabled", the router takes a full 60 seconds to reboot, and the wireless indicator goes into an inverted state (i.e., on when it should be off). Come on, Linksys, it shouldn't be rocket science to get an indicator light to work, especially when it's your second try!

  • MBP won't start or read from optical drive; steady sleep indicator light

MBP went into sleep mode at some point during the day. Now I cannot wake it up. I had a steady sleep indicator light. I've tried everything in the book (holding down pwr button to shut down, then restarting; reset power manager; tried rebooting with OS disc #1 installed - which now will not eject).
When I press the power button, I can hear the optical drive start to turn, then it stops short. The drive will spin for awhile, then stops automatically. The computer fans come on, but that's about it. I can't reboot so as to run Disk Utility. The screen remains black. Starting with shift key pressed for Safe mode or pressing C also have not worked. Seems as if the computer is not getting passed the initial start up sequence. My wife also has a MBP but I haven't tried reading my computer via Firewire yet. Not sure that will help.
I'm a long way away from any Apple store (Kazakhstan) and would greatly appreciate some help. Thanks! Scott

This problem has been resolved. Problem was a faulty RAM module. I sent my MacBook Pro to an authorized service center; they had it fixed in less than 1 day. Works fine now. No problems since!

  • Battery Charging Indicator Light Is Out

I own a tangerine iBook, OS X 10.4 operating system.
For a year or so charging the battery while the power cord in has been a "fussy" project -- sometimes it wouldn't charge until I moved the "plug-in-to-the-computer" end of the cord out ever so slightly. I bought a new power cord, but that didn't change things.
I don't have internet at hom, so most days I take my laptop and power cord to the public library and use the library's WiFi to look for work. Yesterday I came home, plugged in the power cord, and no battery charging light. I "jiggled" the cord, got out the old power cord and tried that one, then I tried a different electrical outlet. No battery charging indicator light, and the battery is discharging while I use it with the power cord.
I'm assuming this is an electrical problem that I can't fix, but can anyone fix it? When the battery runs out, will the iBook keep running when plugged into an electircal outlet, or is the electricity not getting to where it need to be?
I've had problems with the battery not charging before, and once I was advised to reset something, but I've alway had the indicator light on, so now I don't know if power is getting to my computer.
I went to About This Computer, clicked on Power and saw this:
    AC Charger Information:
      AC Charger (Watts):    0
      Connected:    No
      Charging:    No
which looks like it doesn't think I'm connected to any power source.

Yes, if resetting the PMU doesn't work, it does sound like the DC-in board has failed.
It is not an easy repair (especially for someone who describes herself as "NonTech."

  • After upgrading to Mac OS 10.6.8, sleep indicator light remains off when I start my MB Pro

After upgrading to Mac OS 10.6.8, sleep indicator light remains off when I start my 15" MB Pro, but the computer works, and when I put it to sleep, the light flashes as normally. Any suggestions?

    Hi j,
An SMC Reset can fix some SIL issues. If everything is working fine . . . ? Anyway, it shouldn't hurt anything to try it if you want: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Sleep indicator light not working

This isn't really that huge of an issue, but I've noticed that the sleep indicator light on my 366MHz Firewire iBook, which I recently bought on eBay and installed a few upgrades in, seems to not be flashing when the computer is asleep. At first I suspected a bad LED, so I swapped it out with a known-good indicator light from my previous 300MHz iBook. That hasn't seemed to work, and both display cables going into the motherboard appear to be securely attached. Oddly enough, I do recall one time when I put the computer to sleep and the indicator light worked (this was somewhere in the middle of my trying to get it to work), but I haven't been able to replicate it.

Have you tried to reset the Power Management Unit (PMU)?

  • Status Indicator Light not working

I've been having a recurring issue with the status indicator light on my 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz (Mid-2009). I learned recently that it's normal for the status indicator light to be on when the computer starts up, shuts down and goes to sleep. Lately, the status indicator light has not appeared at all when the computer starts up, goes to sleep, and shuts down. I've tried almost everything and still nothing has worked
1.) Checked to see if any of the ports are working: FireWire, Ethernet, MagSafe, SD card, USB, Mini-DisplayPort. These ports are behaving as normal, working fine.
2.) Checked and successfully paired a seven button Apple Remote to test the IR receiver.
3.) Ran an Apple Hardware Test, found nothing wrong, passed the test.
4.) Reinstalled and erased my hard drive, still having issues.
5.) Bluetooth, AirPort Extreme, microphone, audio ports, speakers, and iSight are working.
6.) Battery works and the charger is working.
7.) Backlighting for display and keyboard work.
The computer is only 1 year and 4 months old. The issue began occurring two months ago. Now the computer does sleep, but if the fans are going, it takes a bit longer for the computer to go to sleep when I close the lid.
I haven't replaced the hard drive or installed any new hardware.

My computer's warranty with Apple, including tech support, service, and repair, has expired. However, I do have a remaining two year warranty with Best Buy Geek Squad.
I'm wondering how much would it cost out of pocket to take this computer to an Apple Store for service and repair with a Mac Genius?
So is there anything that could be wrong with this computer and if so, please help!

If you used "Secure erase", you can be certain that there is nothing left on the disk that is causing your problem.
Because you have a long wait for access to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, if you merely clicked "erase" (the one that does not take more than an hour), you could try Secure Erase now if you want to try the final possible fix you can do on your own.
... and installed the combo update recently, the size for that update was over 1GB.
    That is the right one.
I have been regularly doing those permissions. Thanks for the suggestions.
    You're welcome.
I'm taking my Mac to Geek Squad and Mac Genius next month when I visit my dad in Georgia, there's an Apple Store about 45 minutes away from his house and a Best Buy that sells Macs, cause it turns out Geek Squad's coverage for Apple/Mac is only in places where they sell Macs. I used my zip code and turned up 0 results but I typed the zip code for where my dad lives in North Georgia, and a Best Buy in Atlanta is available. So I will definitely go there and visit the Apple Store to at least see what my options are.
If you need help from Apple before you can go to a physical location next month, other Apple Technical Support service option contacts are available here:

Best Buy by far has the best warranty for computers from what the sales associate was telling me. Apparently, Best Buy warranty covers spills, drops & breaks, and overall maintenance issues. In fact, they told me if the computer can't be fixed, they'll replace it with a new one.
It should surprise nobody when salesmen tell customers that their own warranty product is best. Because you have apparently already paid for the Best Buy warranty, you can take advantage of their warranty and enjoy the "best" results if you can find a location that honors it.
Thanks for advice and if there's anything else you can think of, let me know.
You're welcome. You have all my suggestions. However, if I think of anything else, I will post back here.
We will watch for your status update. Please let us know what fix works for you.

  • G5 Froze & No Longer Able To Start Up - Indicator Light Flashes 3 Times

I was using Logic while my PowerMac G5 DP 1.8 froze completely. I wasn't able to escape the program or do anything else for that matter so I manually powered down and then when I turned my G5 on again the computer would not start up while the indicator light on the front panel flashed 3 times and then paused and then repeated again indefinitely. Over time the fan starts softly and then gets very loud.
I have been reading alot of reports, here and elsewhere, that this has been happening to alot of G5's after about 3 years time (which is approximately the same age as my computer). I also tried a bunch of stuff like the PMU reset, pulling out some of the memory and trying to restart the computer but nothing has worked.
From my web research of other people's experiences, it appears that the logic board or the CPU or both need to be replaced. I have an appointment to take the G5 to my local Apple store but I was wondering what to expect. The G5 is obviously no longer under warranty but are they going to expect me to pay for a new board or CPU? I also read somewhere that in one case the Apple store just fixed the computer with no charge for parts or labor.
Has anybody had this experience recently and know what to expect? I'm really disappointed and frustrated and this couldn't have happened at a worse time for me! Any advice or insight would def be appreciated...

    Thanks for your response DP...
I went to my Apple store appointment last night and was informed that 3 blinking lights means either that there is a problem with RAM or that the Logic Board needs to be replaced. They tried to start the machine with their RAM with no success which leaves only the Logic Board as the culprit.
Once again I am extremely disappointed that my computer which is only 4 years old needs a major repair! And I was quoted ~ $800 from the Apple Store to get it fixed!!!
FAO DP: Which UPS do you recommend? And do you think that a UPS would have saved my Logic Board? Is there a connection between the use of a UPS and the longevity of the Logic Board in your experience? What hurts the Logic Board - spikes or surges or is it drop-off's too? And just to check, regarding the symptoms I described above, does it seem like my power supply is still working ok?

  • Indicator light failure on G3 iBook after security update

I use a G3 iBook as second choice for occasional work. Last night after installing the latest Tiger security update I noticed that the indicator light at the front of the book no longer functions. When I put the iBook to sleep I saw there was no little breathing light that's usually going in and out.
Is this inevitably a hardware malfunction or could there be something in the system that might be causing this?

    Hi Tom,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    If no improvement...
Have you done a PRAM reset...

  • ISight indicator light NOT on?!

    Hi People,
Have had a MacBook Pro 13" for a month or so and only just noticed the lack of the iSight indicator light. Occasionally when going to Photo Booth it will come on, but dimly so, then flicker and fade away. Has anyone had this before and if so, have you fixed it, short of taking it to Apple under warranty.
Have reset smc and pram stuff to no success, also the camera itself has always worked.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Mine has always shone when the iSight is in use, it sounds like a dodgy LED so best get it back to Apple right away so they can fix it.

  • The dock indicator lights look fairly dim on the MBA display, but bright on external displays (LCD TVs for example). Any fixes?

    (MacBook Air mid-2012)
As stated in the title, I've noticed the indicator lights on the dock which represent an open/running application looking fairly dim as opposed to the previous dock design in Lion. After a little look around on the internet, there are some others who are having a similar issue, but I've noticed that upon connecting the laptop to external displays (monitors and LCD TVs), they look extremely bright and noticeable on that particular screen.

https://discussions.apple.com/message/19126554#19126554 This thread appears to address the same issue, yet its odd how the dock "raises" if connected to an external display in my case. I'm considering locating the image files used to display the dock indicators and photoshopping them to be brighter.

  • My blue indicator lights only show under finder. How do I get them to show back under Safari and iTunes when I open them?

I have tried everything to fix this. I am going to restart my computer again and see if that works this time. I have checked every post about this on Apple Support and other sites (not Apple) to no avail. If anyone out there has any idea that will work help me out.

Click the Apple in the upper left corner of your screen followed by “System Preferences” from the context menu
Click the “Dock” option to open its preference pane.
Click the checkbox next to “Show indicator lights for open applications” so it is checked.

  • Wifi indicator now always shows white instead of blue

    Hi All-
My new Ultra had been showing "blue" on the wifi indicator, but now will only show "white". I am getting 65Mbps link speed and excellent signal strength. This has been constant ( good speed and excellent sig strength). Motorola says blue means good connection and white means poor connection, but clearly i am getting all GREAT signal strength and link speeds.Others say it is no longer connecting to google servers. Must be a setting, aye?
    Any help and guidance ?
    Thx, mates!

Ha ha sorry I use Apple devices. But if it makes you happy my new slider bar to turn off the device after iOS 7.1 is now white instead of dark grey.
    Have a nice weekend!

  • Some Open programs not showing indicator light in dock in 10.8

After upgrade to OSX 10.8 some applications are not showing the indicator light in dock when they are open, even with the check box checked in dock preferences.  Also, the only App available in command+tab is Finder. I think these are related.

I've seen this around various forums. It seems to be a bug although I haven't gone looking/asking to see if someone at Apple has noted it.
There are two fixes. Restart or open terminal and run:
    killall -KILL Dock
This will restart just the dock and that should fix the dock and the cmd+tab (which is part of the same process).
