Apple USB to Ethernet Adapter??

Can you use the Apple " usb to ethernet " adapter with the airport express?

The USB port on the AirPort Express will only support a compatible printer, so using a USB to Ethernet adapter would not accomplish what you want to do.
If you add a simple 5 port Ethernet switch to the AirPort Express, one port will be used to connect to the Express with an Ethernet cable. You will then have 4 Ethernet ports available for devices.
Any major electronic/computer store will have what you need. Netgear or Cisco-Linksys make quality products.

    I'm using new 13-inch MacBook Air early 2015. OS X 10.10.3.

Thanks Malcolm - Do you think it might be worth trying to flash the firmware on these cases - there seem to be updaters available on Prolific's website. Obviously I'd have to do it on a PC. I've emailed Prolific asking them about my problem. No reply as yet, and I'm not holding my breath! Do you know if there are any other posts on these boards relating to Prolific? Stupid question really - I'll just do a search...
Thanks again for your post. Cheers from Bonnie Scotland.

  • Unusual issue with tag engine and BELKIN USB to Ethernet adapter??

I have an .scf file with 72 tags and several tag groups in it. If I open the tag engine without the usb adapter, I can read the tag group names with the get group list.vi. The tag group names are listed in black letters when wired to an indicator. When I plug in the usb ethernet adapter, immediately the group tag names are greyed out in the indicator without even running the vi. If I put a tag constant on the block diagram and try to select a tag name with the pointer, no tagnames pop up. It worked yesterday and my IT. department sent down a shockwave and flash5 update download when I booted up this morning. anyone have any ideas??

I am still seeing the tag groups disappear when I start the tag engine on labview7.0. I have several other programs running at the same time, KEPWARE, PROWORX NXT, USB to ethernet adapter. This is on a win2000 machine.

    Brb8910,
what is the brand and model of your USB-to-Ethernet adapter? Does the manufacturer claim that it is compatible with your installed version of OS X?

  • Apple USB-to-Ethernet, OS 10.5.4 and a MBAir. Having Issues

Ever since updating to 10.5.4 on the MBAir, my adjacent Windows XP system has been looking connectivity. Basicly it is consently telling me that the Ethernet cord has been disconnected.
I mention the Apple USB-to-Ethernet because once I unplug it from the MBAir, the issue goes away on the WinXP box.
Also, the network connection with the MBAir has been 'flaky' using the Apple USB-to-Ethernet; so 'flaky' behavior when going wireless.
Wondering if others have experienced anything remotely similar to this. Wondering if maybe its a faulty Apple USB-to-Ethernet.
    Any comments are welcome.

If the drive is new then it isn't prepped for the Mac. You should do the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • I need a USB/FireWire ethernet adapter

About 6 months ago my ethernet port was fried when a lightning bolt sent a surge through the wire. Since then i have been using my family's wireless network, but now that I am back in school and away from home, i don't have that luxury. So, i've been looking for a Mac compatible USB/FireWire ethernet adapter and have had no luck. If anyone knows where I can find one, let me know.

    Hi Kllru,
    Welcome to the Discussions.

  • Usb to Ethernet  adapter doesn't work? AX88772B

I don't know how to make a connection with Internet with RJ-45 cable with the usb adapter.
    I have MBA. Lion 10.7.5
Now I need to connect MBA by RJ-45 cable with usb adapter (asus AX88772B)
MBA see the adapter (even without an ethernet cable).
I also did download drivers from here http://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=pItemdetail&PItemID=105;71;101&PLine=71
I read the instruction, and I've done 3 steps on the page 4 exept these one's:
    (4)  Set the permission access mode of Apple’s default driver.
    (5)  Update the access and modification times of ASIX’s AX88772B/772A/760/772 or AX88178 driver.
But i don't know how to do this.

As can be seen, an autoconfiguration ipv6 address based upon my MAC address was automatically added with the ip link command. The lights on the device are still not on and it still fails to communicate. One more command fixes that.
    # ethtool -s usbnet0 speed 100 duplex full

So my question is, how can I get netctl to do this for me automatically.

  • Usb to ethernet adapter?

I just bought my airport express, and I want to connect my broadband modem to it but the connector is usb instead of ethernet. I did a few searches for an adapter but they all seem to be the opposite, and if I plug it into the express' usb plug it doesn't work (only for printers I guess). Is there such as adapter, or what should I do? Thanks.

You can not use an USB broadband modem with an Airport Express unit even with an adapter.
You will need to replace your USB broadband modem with an ethernet modem.
