Apple Video Adapters

Do the adapters Apple sells to drive the screen image on an external monitor provide sound as well? I'd like to set up my MBP to display on my TV for movies/shows/etc., but how do I get the sound to go through my TV's (or better yet, my receiver's) speakers?
Thanks,
sarah
Also, I have an HDTV that's a couple of years old. Which video adapter should I get (assuming the adapter has a sound out function)?

The DVI output on the MPB does not carry audio. To get the audio to your TV or receiver you need to plug into the audio out (headphone) jack of your MBP. You can get a basic 1/8" stereo-to-RCA cable to connect to a line in on your TV or receiver. Or, if your receiver supports digital input you can connect a digital audio cable (the MBP audio out supports both analog and digital output).

  • Apple Video Adapter Blew my Inverter and HELP?

I had purchased a few television shows from itunes and wished to watch them on my television. I went to the Apple store today and purchased an Apple Video adapter for Mini-VGA to Video Out M9109G/A. I asked if it was the correct adapter and everyone I asked stated it was. I came home, unplugged my PS2 from my video in on my television, plugged the adapter into my iMac. The video resolution adjusted to something like 800 stretched I took the SAME rca cable used for my PS2 and plugged it into the adapter. A popping noise occured and my screen went black.
Zapped Pram, Started from Install CD 1, Took back off, plugged in adapter, pressed start button and noted that LED 3 was lit. Following the troubleshooting instructions I ordered the replacement inverter.
    Now my problems/questions are this
    1) Why did this happen? I've plugged all kinds of things into that port on the television without question. Should I never use the monitor out w/ the Apple Adapter?
    2) I don't have a backup of my data from friday, saturday, or sunday. I attempted to boot the (screen dead) imac via target mode through my pismo in order to clone the drive out, but it wouldn't appear. Is this normal w/ a 'defective inverter'. Is there any way to get my data? I have another identical model, and I know I CAN exchange the drives (leaving the sensor and the case plugged in so as to avoid any cable problems), but is this a bad idea?
Thanks for any advice on this.
BTW, all components line conditioned w/ UPS.
Well..Apple Palo Alto fixed my machine in one day. I'm very impressed. Unfortunately, I couldn't de-authorize my machine (ITMS) prior to the midplane replacement so now iTunes isn't working since it thinks it is authorized or something. I'm trying here, but any suggestions would be good.
In summary. A) Good people at Apple told me to switch drives to my other imac to backup and this worked fine. B) Repair was completely quickly and machine works.
    C) If you have this situation with authorization: 1) Open terminal, type cd /users/shared then type mv "SC Info" "old_SC Info". 2) Create a new user (I did w/ admin). 3) login to the new user account, launch itunes and try to deauthorize (you should get a message you aren't authorized) so buy a free song and authorize. Login to your original user and try itunes (shoudl work) delete the newer user and you can remove "old_SC Info" or keep it if you so choose.
Hope my rambling is helpful to someone.

On Mac Pro I use my second video out to connect a standard crt vga monitor. When I have it plugged in when I boot, the computer hangs with the blue screen everyone else has, never showing the mac os x loading screen. If I have it unplugged when I boot, everything starts fine but when I plug the vga monitor back in, it does not find the monitor after clicking detect displays. This was all working fine before 10.5, so it has to be an issue with the os communicating with my video card.
I assume this all stems from the same issues you are having. There is a glitch in either the video driver or the new core for video that they have not fixed yet.
I may eventually call on this, but right now, I dont have 2 hours to waste speaking to someone in the Philippines that is reading a script.

  • Video out after using Apple Video adapter.

Hi, I have an Mac G5 17" iSight and after I mirror'd my screen to my TV using an Apple video adapter (something I've done hundreds of times before) the computer screen wouldn't change back to the general screen resolution (also something it used to do before). After restarting my computer in an atempt to fix the problem the video was all black (nothing at all, i.e no faint glow) but the computer started up correctly and I could interact with it and control it thru remote access from another mac.
Restarting the PRAM did'nt change anything.
But then after reseting the SMU the computer got worse! Now it just powers up and after som or se time the fans start working real hard but nothing else happens. I don't want to keep them running for more than half a minute because I'm afraid the logic board will burn up if it hasn't already.
What could have happend? Is it fixable?
    Please help....

I answered my own question (this is my post after finding the answer in another thread). Hope this helps someone.
Woohoo! Thanks for the post- I have a 5G with the Apple A/V cable, but I couldn't get the video to work, just the audio on the tv. I didn't have "TV Output" selected "On." Now I don't have to return the product. Man, this 5G is amazing.

  • Apple Video Adapter Not Working

    Hi all,
I have completed an update of 10.4.10 to 10.5 on my MacBook C2D without problems.
I just connected my Apple Video Adapter to try out Front Row, and nothing appears on the TV! The icon appears in Displays preference pane, but nothing appears on the TV. I can change the resolution and PAL/NTSC but the TV stays blue. Was working perfectly yesterday.
    Can anyone else try this?

My iPod mini, 4gb is hard to get serviced obviously because they dont make them anymore
It is as simple to get it serviced as the day you purchased it.
How is it hard to get it serviced?
How long have you had your iPod?
i get maybe 4-5 hours of battery life, maybe even 6 if im lucky
That is not good but it's not "terrible".
If you've had it less than a year, send it back to Apple to replace the battery.
thought that i might buy an attachment type accesorie that i plug into the usb port on my ipod
It's called a dock connector, not a USB port.
i found a product in the online store, that i guess you place the ipod mini on, and it gives you up to 20 or so more hours of time but then it says that you have to have a firewire port or cable?
What is it? The firewire port is on the computer, not the iPod.
If the original battery is going bad, the first thing to do is get that sorted out.

  • Apple video adapter

if i buy an apple video adapter to use a tv as a display will I be able to have the ibook closed and still view it onthe tv?

No. Closing the iBook puts it to sleep.
You can, however, almost close it, leaving it open just enough to keep the sleep switch from activating.
Heat is dissipated through the keyboard, so you should never run it while it is closed (if a malfunction should allow it to run that way).

  • Apple Video Player stops working

I have a Performa 6500/225 running OS 9.1. I also have a (vintage) Apple Video Conference webcam. Along with that I have an original Apple external hard drive. I have the Apple Video Player software on the internal hard drive. For some reason it seems to conflict with a CAD program I have on the external hard drive.
I have tried the clean install as was recommended previously. The AVP will work until I retweak everything. If AVP is working properly then my CAD program doesn't.This is strange because the AVP parts are not on the external drive and the CAD parts are not on the internal drive. Doing a clean install doesn't seem to be the answer. Does anyone know of a way to work around this or perhaps another older driver I might be able to use with my Apple Video Conference cam?
    Performa 6500/225   Mac OS 9.1.x

I missed the earlier discussion but this may be an extension conflict. Apple Video Player comes, I believe, with an extension that is present in your System folder. That extension will always load to some extent when you start your computer, even if you aren't actually running the application. So AVP is always running to a small degree even if the full application isn't. The CAD program may have its own extensions that may also be conflicting with AVP.
If it is an extension conflict then you may have to deal with it by using extensions manager to build two different sets of extensions for when you want to use the different programs and restart in between(yeah, a pain). Alternatively you can sometimes get around these conflicts by renaming you culprit extensions so they load in a different order (for example, by putting putting a "z" in front of one name, though that's usually to address conflicts that causes freezes at startup.
Normally it doesn't matter where you keep applications in terms of drives - that doesn't cause conflicts or resolve them. It's when they are running, or they have extensions that start when you boot your computer that causes the problem.
One other thing you could try would be to upgrade your computer OS to 9.2.2. Maybe things would run more cleanly under the newer OS. The upgrades from 9.1 would be free so there's no harm in trying.

  • That odd Apple Video Player

Ok long time no post i have made posts here in the past but i got caught up in some work and have had no time to help out.
Well i was using my Wings card to watch TV on my Beige Minitower and i decided to take some snap shots of the show and i also took a movie of an old commercial on a tape, so it shows the pictures fine but the movie plays the video part fine but the audio was slow but i saved it anyways, i have had this problem for a while and it bugs me, so i put the pictures and the movie onto a USB memory stick and brought it over to the mini. The mini did not recognize the files it gave them an executable script icon so i dragged the movie to Quicktime 7 and it does not recognize the file it gives an error and so i try VLC gives me an error so i try to open the pictures but it does a similar thing.
Anyone know what is going on, does my Quicktime need an update on the beige? or did the files transfer wrong?
    Thanks

    David,
It looks like your questions about the pea soup was answered. I have done video stuff on the G3 in the past and it isn't unusual for the video and audio to get out of synch. QT mutator will let you go in and edit the track lengths of the two tracks to get them back together.
In general you're asking a lot of a G3 to handle video. You''ll also find that video as saved by Apple Video Player really eats up harddrive space fast. There's MP4 encoders (codecs) out there that will give you as good quality as its available with a Wings card but they raised another set of issues on my G3.
If you're into encoding with the G3 on OS9 then I'd suggest HackTV Carbon which is available as a free download from Apple if you can find it (it's hidden somewhere on the developer's site). This will give you access to more feeatures than AVP. The only thing is, it is happier with QT5 than QT6 so I have two versions of my OS and switch to QT5 when I want to record.

  • Apple Video Component Cable only for audio

I want to buy an Apple Video Component Cable to use it with an iPhone 3GS and also with an iPod 5G.
The cable will be connected to the TV and to the audio receiver.
I know that this cable is not compatible with the iPod 5G, but in this case I only want to use it to listen to music. Therefore, only audio with iPod 5G, audio/video with iPhone 3GS.
Does anyone know if using this cable, despite the fact that video won't work on iPod 5G, audio will work fine on iPod 5G?
I'd like to know that before I buy it.
    Thanks!
    Andrés

    I'll answer my self.
Yes, it does play music on the iPod 5th gen.

  • Apple Video Player Replacement

I just got a PowerMac G3 with a/v in out to replace my Quadra 840av. The main purpose of this system is to convert S-Video to RBG(VGA). System came with 10.2.8 installed and no System 9 folder. :O So I replaced the noisy HDD and added some more ram. Then I installed OS 9 and updated it to 9.2.2. After that I put 10.3 on a sperate partition. For the **** of it I tried runing Apple Video Player in classic mode, but ofcourse it didn't work.
So I was wondering, is there a program out there for OSX that will display the S-Video in? Otherwise todo what I need todo I'll just have to boot into OS9.
P.S. I noticed that the S-Video in on the Quadra and the G3 have the same connector as a/v multi outs on most modern computers. Is there a way to use a component dongle with it? I tried using one but niether systems liked on Apple Video Player.

'fraid so Unfortunately it got left behind in the transition to OSX. I guess there weren't enough machines out there to make it worth it, especially since a 300MHz isn't exactly the hottest machine out there for doing video.

  • Trying to install Bootcamp 4 with non Apple video Card

    Hi folks
So I had to buy a new video card (ATI HD 5850 1 GB DDR5) but of course, I lost acces to the boot screen, so I'm wondering how to install Bootcamp, since I don't have acces to the boot screen. In some point of the Bootcamp installation, the Mac re-boots but it freezes or something like that, so I have to turn it off.
For the other hand, I have the original nVidia 8800 GT which came with the Mac Pro, but's fried and it only works on safe mode. So I'm wondering if it's possible to install Bootcamp by using the 8800 GT in safe mode.
After failing on the Bootcamp installation, I have seen that the OSX already created a Bootcamp partition but in FAT 32 and we know it's neede din NTFS or such. So I was wondering if there is a way to sort this out somehow.
I also have another Bootcamp with Win7 in other hard disk, but quite small, so now I have an empty disk of 300GB, I would like to put all the windows stuff there.
    So:
    1. It seems I cannot use the new video card because of the boot.
    2. It seems I cannot use the old video card because it's fried.
    3. The Bootcamp partition is already there but in FAT 32.
    Any ideas?
Meanwhile, I'm going to try some kind of "ideas".
    Thanks in advance!
    Ø3

Then I google it and I found my thread... Mmmhhh... :/ Anyway, somehow, when Mac boots in order to perform the Win7 installation, after the Apple' chime, a BIG and BLACK pixellated apple apears on a super white background. While it stays, the disk is scratching the surface, then appears an icon of a Folder with an ? on it, The again, the big apple and the scratch, then a Ø symbol ^^ and again, the  with the scratching sound and loops all the time there... I think it's because the non apple video card. But how can be possible... Installation is just, you know, a pair of graphics going there, not OpenGL stuff! xD

  • Need help with an Apple Video Conferencing webcam

I am having a fit trying to get my Performa (6500/225) to work with the hardware I have. Previously I had a Performa 6400/180. I have an Apple Video Conferencing webcam that I was able to make work with OS 9.1. It worked with the original software that came with it and it worked with the software for the Logitech Quickcam (QuickPict setting) I was even able to use it with Ivisit (webcam program). Now that I've had to change the harddrive and reinstall everything, it doesn't work with anything but the original software.
Can anyone tell me what extensions I might need or how to configure it so it will work with what I already have?
    Performa 6500/225   Mac OS 9.1.x

Thanks to all who tried to help. As it turned out it was not a problem with the cam. It took some time and some tweaking but I did get it to work. I had a problem with the webchat program iVisit and I was able to get that solved thru their tech support forum.
This Apple Video Conference camera was a great find. I recommend it to anyone who still uses a vintage mac like mine. What a shame it was discontinued.

  • Apple Videos on Apple TV

Hello, just wondering, why is there no way to view Apple videos on Apple TV? Like the product guides and Keynotes, etc. You'd think they would be great for showing what Apple TV can do... Or am I missing something?

most of the product guides are not of a high enough resolution to look good enough on the appletv in my opinion.
i downloaded the 2008 keynote podcast and it's not that great in some places. the file is 800mb.
but yet, you can manually downloaded the videos if you wanted and then put them into itunes and sync.

  • Is Apple video adapter compatible with my 12 inch ibook G4?

    HI.
Sorry if i'm repeating an old topic, but I can't seem to find this specific question in any of them. i was reading on the apple website that the video adapter M9109G/A (Model no) Is only compatible with ibook's without the external reset button? What exactly do they mean by external reset button? Mine has a reset/startup button on the right, just above the keyboard. Is that what they are referring to?
Anyway, I'm sure someone here can help me out.
    Thanks
    Steve

You are talking about the power button on your iBook G4. You can see a couple examples of reset buttons in KB 14449, Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU).
The M9109G/A is the correct cable for your iBook.
